BLOTTED SCIENCE – ‘A Sting Operation’ video posted

December 16th, 2011

Transatlantic progressive extreme metal all-stars BLOTTED SCIENCE – featuring guitarist/mastermind Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, TERRESTRIAL EXILED, SPASTIC INK), bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL), and drummer Hannes Grossmann (OBSCURA, TERRESTRIAL EXILED) – have posted the ‘A Sting Operation’ video on the EclecticElectric YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvy0skCDQbA, the fourth and final clip in conjuction with their newly released “The Animation Of Entomology” EP.

Commented Ron Jarzombek: “Well, this being the last “Animation”-related video we have for you all, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone out there for the awesome feedback on the previous installments, be it with a comment on our YouTube channel, Facebook or via e-mail. We set out to do something a little different with the “The Animation Of Entomology”, i.e. scoring our own mini-soundtracks to these flicks and create a dual audio-visual experience unlike probably anything that’s out there in the metal world. I think we’ve managed that and it’s great to know so many of you got into it and dug on the whole trip. I’ve got one more “Animation”-related project in the works, my upcoming instructional DVD, “Dissecting Bugs”, where I will go in-depth with all of the 12-tone theory, and play all guitar parts on all songs from the EP. There is no tentative release date yet but it’ll be out sometime in 2012 for sure so stay tuned for that all you guitar geeks.”

The folllow-up to the band’s highly acclaimed 2007 “The Machinations Of Dementia” full-length album, “The Animation Of Entomology” was produced and mixed by Ron Jarzombek and recorded in San Antonio, Texas; Tampa, Florida; and V. Santura’s (OBSCURA, TRIPTYKON) Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany where the drums were cut. Mastering duties were once again handled by Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, DESTRUCTION) at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark.

RON JARZOMBEK – ‘Cretaceous Chasm’ instructional video released

November 30th, 2011

BLOTTED SCIENCE guitarist/mastermind Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, TERRESTRIAL EXILED, SPASTIC INK) has released an instructional video for the song ‘Cretaceous Chasm’ off the band’s “The Animation Of Entomology” EP which can be viewed at this location http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVyUHFl0iB8 . In it, the guitarist explains the application of the twelve-tone system devised specifically for the writing process of the EP, which will be the subject of a forthcoming DVD, titled “Dissecting Bugs.”

States Jarzombek: “I’ve been mentioning this ’12-Tones In Fragmented Rows’ system in interviews and it seems that even non-musicians are interested in it, so I put together this video to give listeners some insight on how it all works. I thought it would be best to break this all down into its most basic theoretical form, and play examples of its use. I chose to post the basic guitar tracks to “Cretaceous Chasm” because it is the simplest song on the EP and is the easiest to grasp theoretically. The song will also appear first on my upcoming instructional DVD, “Dssecting Bugs”, where I will go in-depth with all of the 12-tone theory, and play all guitar parts on all songs from the EP. Things do get a bit complicated when melodies and solos are laid on top of the note groups, but we’ll get to all of that good stuff on the DVD.” More information about the sample video, including the transcription/tabs, can be found at http://www.ronjarzombek.com/CretaceousChasmTab1.html

“The Animation Of Entomology”, which also features the talents of bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL) and drummer Hannes Grossmann (OBSCURA, TERRESTRIAL EXILED), will get its European release via UK-based Basick Records today, November 28. The folllow-up to the band’s highly acclaimed 2007 “The Machinations Of Dementia” full-length album was produced and mixed by Ron Jarzombek and recorded in San Antonio, Texas; Tampa, Florida; and V. Santura‘s (OBSCURA, TRIPTYKON) Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany where the drums were cut. Mastering duties were once again handled by Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, DESTRUCTION) at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark.

BLOTTED SCIENCE release creepy new video – ‘Vermicular Asphyxiation’

November 2nd, 2011
BLOTTED SCIENCE

BLOTTED SCIENCE

Acclaimed progressive extreme metal all-stars BLOTTED SCIENCE – featuring guitarist/mastermind Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, TERRESTRIAL EXILED, SPASTIC INK), bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL), and drummer Hannes Grossmann (OBSCURA, TERRESTRIAL EXILED) – have posted the horror infused ‘Vermicular Asphyxiation’ visual companion piece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRYpsCsjnXk, the second in a series of four videos in conjunction with the forthcoming “The Animation Of Entomology” EP which will be released throughout Europe on November 28th by Basick Records.

Commented Ron Jarzombek: “OK, all you ghouls and goblins out there – here is our little contribution to the Halloween festivities. No giant spiders and nasty worms battling heroic humans in a primordial pit of death this time around, just a clandestine home invasion of the slitherin’ kind.  If you decide to stay in from the trick or treating tonight, be sure to lock your windows and shut your mouth. You never know what may be trying to get in.”

The follow-up to the band’s highly acclaimed 2007 “The Machinations Of Dementia” full-length album was produced and mixed by Ron Jarzombek and recorded in San Antonio, Texas; Tampa, Florida; and V.

“The Animation Of Entomology” will get a European release through UK-based Basick Records on November 28.  Commented Ron Jarzombek: “I’m really excited to be partnering with Barley and the Basick Records crew on the new BLOTTED SCIENCE record, ‘The Animation of Entomology’. They are a young, exciting company on the cutting edge, whose roster is very much compatible with what BLOTTED SCIENCE is all about, so I feel like this will be a great home for us. Feeding ‘The Animation Of Entomology’ into their distribution channels should noticeably improve our retail visibility and availability compared to ‘The Machinations Of Dementia’. I’m looking forward to working with Basick and maximizing our potential to the fullest in Europe!”

Added Basick label owner Barley: “Having been a huge admirer of Ron’s output for a number of years, it gives me great pleasure to welcome BLOTTED SCIENCE to the family! I can’t wait to get this record out to all our dedicated fans in Europe!”

Pre-order a copy of ‘The Animation of Entomology’ from Basick Records store today.

BLOTTED SCIENCE – ‘Cretaceous Chasm’ compagnon video posted

October 19th, 2011

Technical extreme metal all-stars BLOTTED SCIENCE, featuring guitarist/mastermind Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, TERRESTRIAL EXILED, SPASTIC INK), bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL), and drummer Hannes Grossmann (OBSCURA, TERRESTRIAL EXILED), have posted the compagnon video to the song ‘Cretaceous Chasm’ at this location http://www.youtube.com/user/EclecticElectricTV. It comes off the band’s latest effort, ‘The Animation Of Entomology’, released October 4 on EclecticElectric.

Described as “a cross between CANNIBAL CORPSE, SPASTIC INK, and a Bugs Bunny cartoon”, ‘The Animation Of Entomology’ takes Jarzombek’s life-long fascination with animated cartoons, bugs and assorted creepy crawlies to a whole new level: “We wanted to follow up ‘The Machinations Of Dementia’ along some of the same lines of science and gore, and came up with a killer concept and some great material with yet another 12-tone writing system. I totally busted my ass syncing things up, carefully orchestrated music to film, bug movies actually, and nit-picked notes to death on this material until my fingers bled and my brain nearly exploded. How everything falls into place I think is beyond incredible! Whether this is the heaviest or most technical thing I’ve ever done, I don’t really know or care, but no other band/project is pulling off what we are doing with this EP.”

The folllow-up to the band’s highly acclaimed 2007 ‘The Machinations Of Dementia’ full-length album was produced and mixed by Ron Jarzombek and recorded in San Antonio, TX, Tampa, FL, and V. The cover art was done by Atlanta, GA-based artist Richard Morley of Morley Arts.

RON JARZOMBEK issues BLOTTED SCIENCE and instructional DVD update

October 7th, 2011
BLOTTED SCIENCE

BLOTTED SCIENCE

BLOTTED SCIENCE – ‘The Animation Of Entomology’ is officially here! After two years of carefully syncing, writing and recording music to roaches crawling out of mouths, slugs into mouths, worms getting sliced open, slugs getting strangled, wasps pulverizing faces, and tarantulas being shot to death, we’re DONE!

Somebody owes me a Goldschlager…..

Usually with any release that I’m part of, whether it’s on my own, or in a band/project context, I have a specific direction of how I hope things turn out, and this is another one that was absolutely nailed. Putting together these long distant recordings always involves a tremendous amount of time, discipline, communication, and motivation, and once again we wrote and completed another recording without the 3 of us ever having been in the same room together. While putting this all together was a bitch and a half, working with Alex (Webster; CANNIBAL CORPSE) and Hannes (Grossmann; OBSCURA) has been beyond exhilarating!
As many of you know, all 24-plus minutes of the EP are a musical score to some type of bug movies. We will reveal the first one at my YouTube channel next Friday. We’ll miss Friday the 13th by one day, but hopefully this viewing will be creepy enough for you. And so until the video appears, enjoy the audio. I realize that it all may be beyond wacky at this point, but it all will soon make perfect sense.

In the meantime, you can get the digital download from iTunes or Amazon (Rhapsody, eMusic, etc. should follow shortly) or grab a physical copy of the EP from CD Baby or IndieMerch (who will also be our official merch company from now on; new shirts will be arriving soon), or directly from me at ronjarzombek.com. Apologies to those that pre-ordered the CD (& T-shirt) from IndieMerch and are still waiting for their stuff. Unfortunately, we ran into a manufacturing issue with the CDs along the way which delayed everything by about a week. Many thanks to the fans who have already picked up the EP. The support is greatly appreciated! To those who choose to rip us off by illegally downloading, I hope a black widow spider bites you tonight while you’re sleeping…….
Up next for me is what I started working on several years ago. Yep, the instructional guitar DVDs. And this time, I’m not going to let a band project push them aside. I’ve had WAY too many people ask me about them over the past few years – it’s time to make them my priority. They were first shelved for the first BLOTTED SCIENCE CD, ‘The Machinations Of Dementia’, then a year and a half of trying to complete ‘Mathematics’ with WATCHTOWER and having it fall apart for a fourth time (in a nutshell – we managed to complete the ‘Size of Matter’ digital single around the time we played the Keep It True festival in Germany last year only to run into singer issues yet again. We tried to find someone who could work with the material and it went nowhere. First with Jason (McMaster), then with Alan (Tecchio), Stu Block, then back with Alan again. Didn’t work. Maybe we’ll try again in another 4 years…..). Then over the last couple of years, my main focus has been the ‘Animation’ EP.

In any case, there were already three instructional DVDs in the works featuring SPASTIC INK, ‘Machinations’ and RJ solo material. Now I am adding the DVD which will include all guitar playing and theory for the just released BLOTTED SCIENCE EP. If you guys are sick of all the bug stuff – it’s just starting…..! Since I will be taking apart everything guitar on the DVD it will appropriately be called ‘Dissecting Bugs’. For the EP, we used another 12-tone system, this one called ’12 Tones In Fragmented Rows’ and I was amazed at how well it worked for this material. Its use will be fully demonstrated and animated in the DVD. The DVD will be along the same lines as the ‘Oscillation Cycles’ video that I posted a while back, but I may have a bug mask on or have some scorpions crawling on my guitar as I’m playing.
Finally, I have received quite a few inquiries about online guitar lessons. Right now, I am only doing private live-in-person lessons 5 days a week at two locations here in San Antonio, but am thinking about getting into online lessons. If/when this happens, I will post any info on all of my sites.

That’s about it for now…….

Ron

“Well, it’s been a long, arduous process but we’re finally seeing light at the end of tunnel”, statesJarzombek enthusiastically. ”Hannes has been done for a few months, Alex finished up his tracks in early June, and I’m now in the home stretch with my solos.  I’m so psyched about what the reaction will be once fans hear and see what we’re doing.  If you can imagine a cross between CANNIBAL CORPSESPASTIC INK, and a Bugs Bunny cartoon – that’s pretty much what’s going on.”

‘The Animation Of Entomology’ takes Jarzombek‘s fascination with animated cartoons and creepy crawlies to a whole new level.  After having experimented with writing complex pieces of music to sync up with classic movie sequences with SPASTIC INK on ‘The Wild Hare’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhP4lg28fs0 and ‘The Cereal Mouse’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RztR4E12dGU, respectively, the concept has now been applied to BLOTTED SCIENCE over the course of 7 songs and a total of 24 minutes of music.

BLOTTED SCIENCE announce ‘The Animation Of Entomology’ EP

January 12th, 2011
RON JARZOMBEK

RON JARZOMBEK

January 12, 2011 – Acclaimed guitarist Ron Jarzombek (BLOTTED SCIENCE, WATCHTOWER, SPASTIC INK) has posted the following update on his website:

“For those of you waiting for new BLOTTED SCIENCE material… BUG OFF!   “This concept started to take shape in June of ’08 when BLOTTED SCIENCE got together for the first time to rehearse and threw ideas around for a second CD.  We wanted to score some kind of creepy horror film, and so something was definitely abuzz.

“The idea of writing music that syncs up perfectly with clips of disgusting insects and other creepy creatures was set in motion.   “After working with close to a dozen movie clips, it became apparent that to do a full-length CD, it would take far too long to complete.  You need to take in the fact that we are writing exclusively with a 12-tone system 100% of the time, so things get very detailed, nitpicky and restricted.  On the timing side of things – counts, measures, time signatures, and note subdivisions also now have to conform to frames per second and more importantly match and coincide with what is on-screen.  Throw out any semblance of verses and choruses too while you’re at it.  Rather than have musical sections last a series of measures, some full sections now last just a few counts.  I’ve scored music to film before with SPASTIC INK’s ‘A Wild Hare’ and ‘The Cereal Mouse’, and Alex and I have written with a specific 12-tone system on the first BLOTTED SCIENCE CD, ‘The Machinations Of Dementia’, but putting these two together has been brutally intense.

“Will all of this be too much for fans to take in? We shall see….. literally..…

“The EP, entitled ‘The Animation Of Entomology’, will contain 7 new BLOTTED SCIENCE songs, and will be approx. 24 minutes long.

“Hannes (Grossmann, drums) will be going into Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany on January 31, 2011, with V. Santura (DARK FORTRESS, TRIPTYKON) engineering, and is now preparing for the session. Alex (Webster, bass) is recording his bass tracks at his Hell Whole Studios in Tampa, and I am locked away in my Live Oak Studios here in San Antonio.

“If all goes well we should have everything recorded in a few months.”

April 8th, 2009

cc1x.JPG

Interview conducted and transcribed by HannTu

Alex Webster is one of the most well-known and respected musicians in the metal genre, and despite being the founding member and principal songwriter of one of the most influential and popular bands in death metal, he’s supremely down to earth and friendly. We had a great long chat about Cannibal Corpse’s new album EVISCERATION PLAGUE (already shaping up to be one of the better death metal releases of 2009) and about his personal approach to his music and his passion, Cannibal Corpse.
