The Finnish Metal Tour 2 with Finntroll & Ensiferum
The Gramercy Theater – New York, NY
Review and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus
Last April, I was fortunate enough to catch the original Finnish metal tour featuring Finntroll and their sister band Moonsorrow, which thoroughly blew me away. The tour must have been quite a success, since Finntroll enlisted Viking metal warlords Ensiferum for a second round of stateside Pagan folk lunacy. Also on board were two Finnish bands I hadn’t heard of, Barren Earth and Rotten Sound.

“Finnish Metal Tour 2” to decimate North America this winter
HELSINKI, FINLAND – Finland’s keyboard-soaked prog/death metal supergroup, Barren Earth, is set to kick off its debut North American tour, the “Finnish Metal Tour 2”, tonight in Orlando. The much anticipated trip to the US and Canada comes in the wake of the band’s critically acclaimed debut record, Curse of the Red River, which hit stores last year on Peaceville Records. Fellow countrymen, Finntroll, Ensiferum and Rotten Sound, will round out the lineup on the 30-city run.
“I have to say that I am totally stoked about the upcoming tour in North America with Barren Earth,” said bassist, Oppu Laine, via the band’s official MySpace page. ”Not only because this is our first tour in the U.S. and Canada, but also because it’s our first full tour altogether. We’ve done some gigs in Finland and it’s been really great, but never a full tour. Touring five weeks with Barren Earth and all the other cool bands on the bill must be an absolute test… but I just cannot wait!! So, get yer asses to the shows and witness some of the greatest actual Finnish metal acts alive. See you and let’s get cursed!!”
Barren Earth recently posted a tour video trailer online, featuring keyboardist, Kasper Mårtenson (Ex-Amorphis, Ben Granfelt Band), and guitarist, Sami Ylisirniö (Kreator, Waltari), as they geared up for their North American excursion. The video is available on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmUdSHk6GDA.
Finally, in celebration of the “Finnish Metal Tour 2”, a specially priced bundle pack of Barren Earth’s critically acclaimed debut EP, ‘Our Twilight’, and Curse of the Red River can be purchased through the Peaceville Records webstore for just $16 at: http://www.burningshed.com/store/peaceville/product/327/2362/.
