Baptized In Blood: Shred-Ready
by Shawn Jam Hill
Party metal, when played with vim, vigor and bona fide talent, can be extremely enjoyable. Whether it’s Municipal Waste giving shout outs to excessive beer consumption or A Life Once Lost’s less cerebral excursions, party metal definitely conjures up the notion of good times and, in those of us with slightly less fortitude, the urge to crack a coupla PBRs becomes unbearably necessary. London, Ontario’s Baptized In Blood are storming the scene with their self titled major label debut (Roadrunner Records) and, if you don’t crack a cold one while banging yer head to one of many metallic anthems on this glossy disc, you may not actually be a metalhead. Metal-Rules.com recently caught up with guitarist Josh Torrance to get a glimpse into what it’s like to go from jamming with your buddies for fun to being courted by the one and only Dave Mustaine. Remember that cheesy flick RockStar from a few years back? Mark Wahlberg ain’t got nothing on Baptized In Blood.

Baptized in Blood - debut album available October 19th
New York, NY: Canada’s BAPTIZED IN BLOOD are set to storm out of their native Canada and mount a takeover of American metal audiences when they release their self-titled, debut full-length for Roadrunner nationally on October 19. The band will also play alongside A Life Once Lost at the CMJ Music Marathon Metal Sucks Showcase, which will be held October 20 at Club Europa. Baptized in Blood have already turned the discerning head of a metal icon, Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, who was so impressed that he has taken on the role of co-manager for the London, Ontario-based band, alongside Mark Adelman.
Additionally, Mike D of Dark Icon Design, who also serves as the bassist for Killswitch Engage, designed the album artwork. While Baptized in Blood may have friends in high places, the band doesn’t rely on those associations; the five-piece delivers the goods with their bottom heavy, unrelenting metallic assault. Baptized in Blood are a classic Roadrunner signing that remains true the label’s long-standing history as the standard bearer of the best in hard rock and metal.
Baptized in Blood are influenced by Gothenburg metal, glam and everything in between, as long as it’s distorted! Their music is equally anthemic and groovy, without sacrificing one ounce of brutality. They’ve toured with US with Fear Factory and with Shadows Fall and Hatebreed in their native Canada. The band was also asked to join an already stellar lineup for the 2010 installment of the Heavy MTL Festival in Montreal, Quebec Canada, sharing the stage with the likes of Megadeth, Rob Zombie, Slayer, Lamb of God, Mastodon to name just a few, performing in front of 15,000 fans.
The track listing for Baptized in Blood is as follows:
“Up Shirts Down Skirts”
“Dirty’s Back”
“Game On”
“Only Cure”
“Down and Out”
“Mental”
“Last Line Lady”
“My Salute”
“Go It Alone”
“Will Of a Demon”
“Sinking Ships”
“Event Horizon”

Shadows Fall Annihilate Ottawa

March 7, 2010
Review and pics by Shawn Jam Hill
Ottawa is a government town, a staid politico polis where the sidewalks are rolled up at precisely 6 P.M. every night of the week. Fortunately for the legions of metal fans lurking in the background of our (Canada’s) national capital’s lengthy shadow (not to mention all the serious metalheads from just across the river in La Belle Provence!), there is a vibrant scene kicking in the walls of mediocrity.
