AS I LAY DYING will then end the year with shows throughout Europe (see below for full tour dates).
AS I LAY DYING–NICK HIPA (guitar), TIM LAMBESIS (vocals), JORDAN MANCINO (drums), PHIL SGROSSO (guitar) and JOSH GILBERT (bass)–just wrapped the “Cool Tour” with Underoath, Between the Buried and Me, Blessthefall, The Acacia Strain, Architects, Cancer Bats, and War of Ages in San Francisco August 1. In a live review from the 7/31 Los Angeles date, Louie Bones of BigWheelMagazine.com said, “As I Lay Dying hit the stage to an intro song that reminded me of an epic war scene from a movie, it set the tone for what was to come. The 4000 maximum capacity crowd howled in excitement as the 5 members of As I Lay Dying broke into the set opener ‘94 Hours.’ The bone shattering bass drum was felt by all across the floor and up into the Palladium’s balconies. It was similar to an earthquake set to musical rhythm and growled along to…Fans had waited all day for this and they were not let down by any means as As I Lay Dying tore through the Palladium relentlessly late into the night.”
Prior to the fall tour, AS I LAY DYING will be performing this Saturday, August 7 as part of the Maloof Money Cup presented by Vans which airs live on FUEL TV. The MMC–the world’s premiere showcase for amateur and professional skateboarding–returns to Orange County for a third straight year August 4-8 (during the 2010 OC Fair) and will award nearly $450,000 in cash and prizes in four professional U.S. championship competitions: the VOLCOM Street Pro, Women’s Pro Street, Carl’s Jr. Pro Vert Championships and the World Industries Amateur Championships. Jordan Mancino & As I Lay Dying Do It For The Fans
Interview by Shawn Jam Hill
Promo pics courtesy of Metal Blade Records
Being a drummer can be a somewhat thankless task compounded by the plethora of groaners cool guys (like guitarists and singers) have come up with over the years. Did you hear about the bass player that locked the keys in the van? It took the band 2 hours to get the drummer out.
Jordan Mancino, famed skinsman for San Diego metalcore heroes As I Lay Dying, has probably heard it all before. An engaging dude with a laid back, West Coast attitude, Mr. Mancino recently called me up here in Ottawa, Canada to discuss his obsession with drumming, AILD’s formative years and the pinnacle on which they preside in the world of metal. With a fresh record, The Powerless Rise (Metal Blade), hitting the streets May 11 and a tour cycle that will see the band melting faces all over the world for the next 2 years, Mr. Mancino will be one busy drummer. He better just watch out for that gong (more on that later…). Read the rest of this entry »
For an introduction to what Bloodstock Open Air is all about, check out my preview of it here. Suffice it to say that BOA is the only proper UK outdoor metal festival that is devoted to true metal of all genres. This would be the first time I was making the trip up to the Midlands to cover this amazing festival.
Reaching there late Thursday night, we set up camp and went off to explore. BOA has one of the most random things I’d expect at a metal festival: a shisha tent! Armed with a 1.5 litre bottle of JD and two bongs of shisha, we spent the night there meeting weird and crazy people (Frida from Sweden, if you’re reading this, get in touch!). After a disgusting fry-up at the All-Day Breakfast bar, I went off to bed to catch some shut-eye before Friday’s bands. Good start to BOA!
