ARTILLERY signs to Metal Blade

July 11th, 2013

Metal Blade welcomes legendary Danish Thrashers ARTILLERY to their arsenal!

Denmark’s ARTILLERY is one Europe’s earliest thrash metal exports, and their contribution to the bourgeoning genre is difficult to ignore. The Danish quartet successfully managed to fuse an abrasive brutality with technicality and strong melodies, with the noteworthy guitar leads of the Stützer-brothers serving as highlights.

ARTILLERY was formed in the Copenhagen suburb of Taastrup, Denmark in 1982 by Michael and Morten Stützer. Since then, ARTILLERY have gone thru numerous line-up changes and released six studio LPs. The first period of ARTILLERY‘s existence gave the world the three classic albums Fear of Tomorrow, Terror Squad and By Inheritance, featuring some of the finest moments of thrash metal Europe has ever put out.

After an eight-year hiatus ARTILLERY returned in style in 1999, sounding as fresh and hungry as ever before without sounding like one of those nostalgia acts. The three albums B.A.C.K., When Death Comes and My Blood put ARTILLERY not only back on the map, but also to the top of their genre.

ARTILLERY comments on the signing: “Artillery is very proud to have signed with legendary Metal Blade Records! Metal Blade is the company who released Metallica’s first song, Slayer’s and Trouble’s debut records and who in their line-up have our fellow Danes Mercyful Fate/King Diamond signed. With their over 30 years of experience in the business this is a big step forward for Artillery. We can’t wait to have our new album released on Metal Blade, and we are looking forward to promote it with our first American tour ever. We also want to thank Metal Mind and Agnieszka for the last 5 years!” Read the rest of this entry »

Carsten Nielsen: “For personal reasons I have chosen to leave the Danish Thrash Metal Band Artillery. It’s something I’ve thought about for a long time and I have already informed the guys in the band and I can announce that the last shows I’m playing with Artillery will be in South America.
And to all the nice people I have met during my time in ARTILLERY, I will just say a huge thank you to; I will never forget the good reception and response I have received.
After the last show I will take a little break and then I’ll probably go back to my roots and try to find some guys in the Copenhagen Area who want to play some good old fashioned Punk Rock together with me…”

Artillery – world-premiere of the video “Warrior Blood”

As previously announced, Artillery, one of the best thrash metal bands around, returns with a brand new studio album. New material entitled “My Blood” is the follow-up to their highly acclaimed album “When Death Comes” (2009). The album will be released as a jewel case CD and as a digipak CD including 2 bonus tracks. Japanese edition of the album will include an exclusive bonus track which won’t be available elsewhere. Metal Mind Productions set the release date for 21st March in Europe, 16th March in Japan (via King Records) and 5th April in USA (via MVD).

Denmark’s Artillery is one of Europe’s earliest exponents of thrash metal and the band’s contribution to the bourgeoning genre is difficult to ignore. The Danish quartet successfully managed to fuse an abrasive brutality with technicality and good melodies, with the noteworthy guitar leads of the Stützer brothers as well as the remarkable vocals from Flemming Rønsdorf serving as highlights. Due to Artillery’s demos being well distributed, the band gained worldwide recognition even before the release of their first official album; and the band’s first three studio albums, “Fear of Tomorrow”, “Terror Squad” and “By Inheritance”, all assumed the status of classics in the thrash genre. However, due to lack of support from labels and internal band disputes, Artillery never really achieved their big breakthrough and thus split up in 1991. In late 1999, Artillery reunited and released the critically acclaimed album “B.A.C.K.”, but they never really took off as a band again. A few live appearances came in the wake of the release, only to be followed by silence. However, in 2008 the classic core of Artillery, consisting of Morten and Michael Stützer as well as Peter Thorslund (bass) and Carsten N. Nielsen (drums) rejoined forces and subsequently employed new vocalist Søren Adamsen, who provided the band with a rejuvenated energy and a musical prowess that was soon witnessed on the live DVD “One Foot in the Grave, The Other One in the Trash”, containing updated versions of classic material. Another new chapter in the life of Artillery has now begun with their brand new studio album, “My Blood”, which contains 11 blistering tracks that fill the void between past glory and future splendor. New material was recorded between November 2010 and January 2011 at Medley Studios in Denmark with Søren Andersen as the producer. The band promote the new album with a video clip to the track “Warrior Blood”. What can we expect from the musical side of the new album? Guitarist Michael Stützer says: “The sound is a bit more heavy than it was on ‘When Death Comes’. The music is a mixture of our previous albums ‘When Death Comes’ and ‘By Inheritance’, with a slight touch of ‘Terror Squad’ and ‘Fear of Tomorrow’ with some oriental pieces.” The producer Søren Andersen added: “There is an almost rock´n roll feeling in some of the songs”.

Artillery – title of the new album revealed!

December 23rd, 2010

Artillery, one of the best thrash metal bands around, is currently working in Medley Studios, Denmark on the follow-up to their highly acclaimed album “When Death Comes” (2009). The new material entitled “My Blood” will be released by Metal Mind Productions in March 2011.   So far Artillery recorded 14 songs – 10 brand new tracks, a remake of “Ain´t Giving In” (from 1992´s “Mind Factory” demo) and 3 bonus tracks which are all new versions of timeless classics from the 1985’s album “Fear of Tomorrow” (“The Eternal War”, “The Almighty”, “Show Your Hate”).   Soren Adamsen, Artillery’s vocalist, revealed a few titles of the new tracks. He also described the lyrics for those tracks:
1. “The Great Satan” – it’s a song about the decadence of the western society and evil empires all around the world.
2. “Monster” – a song about serial killers. None in particular.
3. “Death is an Illusion” – a track about life and death.
4. “The End of Eternity”- dealing with depression and thoughts about starting a new life.
5. “Mi Sangre” – it’s about my son. It’s a 7 and a half-minute song, almost an epic endeavor.
6. “Concealed in the Dark” –  two words – David Sharp. Go search for it on the internet, it’s an interesting story.
7. “Dark Days” – it’s about the change in the climate.
8. “Warrior Blood” – a song about fighting. Soldiers, prize-fighters, people who are struggling with deadly diseases.

What can we expect from the musical side of the new album? Guitarist Michael Stützer says: “The sound is a bit more heavy than it was on ‘When Death Comes’. The music is a mixture of our previous albums ‘When Death Comes’ and ‘By Inheritance’, with a slight touch of ‘Terror Squad’ and ‘Fear of Tomorrow’ with some oriental pieces.” Producer Søren Adamsen added: “There is an almost rock´n roll feeling in some of the songs”.

The release date of “My Blood” is set for 9th March 2011 in Japan (via Kings Records), 21st March 2011 in Europe and 5th April 2011 in USA (via MVD). Full details to be announced soon.
All the best,   Agnieszka Świątnicka-Kulpińska

Jalometalli 2009

October 20th, 2009

 yla_logo.jpg

bandtaulu2009_c.jpg

The Jalometalli Open Air Metal festival has gained its status as well as place on the Finnish festival map. Although there are plenty of metal oriented festivals arranged all around in Finland, the Jalometalli festival has found its own style and approach in the metal festival offering in Finland. It doesn’t rely on the current hot names on the market like Volbeat and so on, instead the festival offers a more interesting line-up mostly consisting of old school thrash metal and of course death and black metal by having bands which have either never or rarely visited Finland. Especially several 80s thrash metal legends such as Whiplash, Agent Steel have never been seen on the soil of Finland. Now it is about time. Therefore the Metal-Rules.com team made a real assault at Jalometalli by witnessing plenty of killer bands and seeing the general atmosphere and here is the result.
