SOILWORK Singer and ARCH ENEMY Bass Player Launch Classic Rock Band
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA, the new classic rock band featuring Björn Strid (SOILWORK) and Sharlee D’ Angelo (ARCH ENEMY, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS), have posted two songs on their Facebook and Myspace pages. For music visit:http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Night-Flight-Orchestra/210664785613576?sk=app_178091127385 |www.myspace.com/nightflightorchestra
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA started like so many others as an innocent yet serious drunken idea when Björn Strid (SOILWORK) and David Andersson (MEAN STREAK, session SOILWORK) were on the road together somewhere in North America in 2007. Björn andDavid were bonding over what they considered “classic” or not, from rock n roll conspiracies to being arrested in a lobby with nothing but leather pants on. All those scenarios, fictional or real, needed a soundtrack. They also came to think that whether you’re on a metal tour or not, a lot of classic rock songs say it all and can really lend you a helping hand and make you forget about everything, especially when in motion or travelling. The classic escape. The never-ending road trip. The transatlantic night flight. It may sound simple and naive but what it all comes down to is that we all need that soundtrack to feel extra special, whether you have been arrested in a lobby or not.
It didn’t take long before bass player Sharlee D’ Angelo (ARCH ENEMY, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS) joined forces as well as keyboard playerRichard Larsson (VON BENZO) and drummer Jonas Källsbäck (MEAN STREAK). The goal was to reclaim the 70′s/early 80′s sense for classic melody, the forgotten recipe to a timeless song, preferably a song mentioning a city, street name or an exhilarating alcoholic beverage. Anything that will have you spitting out the word ‘classic’. From “Tarot Woman” to “Badlands”, from “Rhiannon” to “Running on Empty”, from “Blind Man” to “Night Moves”, from “Deuce” to “Separate Ways”, from “Elected” to “Set me Free”. The list goes on. It’s all about reclaiming the “classic”. The band is currently unsigned but are looking into recording their debut album this summer.

ARCH ENEMY ‘OFFICIAL’ AFTER PARTY
ABGOTT, Feral, L Sol Tace, Juggernørt @ Club Carnage, Kings Cross London
24th November 2010
Words by Jo Blackened

With the weather freezing in London and doors not opening until 7.30pm; although it stated 7pm on the tickets, I wasn’t surprised to see a large group of cold moaning metallers, eagerly waiting to come inside when I arrived.
But with the clubs cosy atmosphere and great lighting, and a visit to the bar I was happy patiently waiting for the bands to come on.

ARCH ENEMY RECORDING NEW STUDIO ALBUM; Drummer issues studio report
SWEDEN – Swedish melodic death metal titan, Arch Enemy, has begun recording a new studio album, the long awaited successor to 2007’s acclaimed Rise Of The Tyrant album. After releasing the Tyrants Of The Rising Sun – Live In Japan live DVD/CD (2008) and the re-recordings album, The Root Of All Evil (2009), the band’s ninth studio album will mark a return to new, original material.
The yet-to-be-named album will be self-produced by Arch Enemy, and engineered/mixed by Rickard Bengtsson (whom produced 2005′s Doomsday Machine). The band has recently entered Sweetspot Studio in the south of Sweden for the album’s recording process, and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who just finished off tracking his parts, checked in with the following report:
“After an intense but inspiring stay in the studio, I’ve just completed recording the drum tracks for the upcoming Arch Enemy album! We’re working once again with Rickard Bengtsson, who produced ‘Doomsday Machine’, and he quickly dialed in an absolutely pristine drumtone! I’ve also had the expertise of local drum guru Beppe Wackelin at hand, helping out with tuning and kindly letting me use some of his vintage drums. This time around I’ve used a Pearl Reference drum kit, while incorporating various snare drums on songs that demanded a slightly different feel.
We had a very inspiring and creative time writing this album, I think this is definitely evident when listening to the new songs. There’s tons of variation in the material, ranging all the way from very melodic to extremely heavy. As you can expect there’s no shortage of killer riffs and intricate guitar work, the Amott Bros have come up with some very cool yet demanding ideas! This album has some of the fastest songs I’ve ever recorded, along with a bunch of heavy pounding mid tempo songs. As always, it’s difficult to describe music in words – but rest assured – this album will be one heavy fucker!”
A video of Daniel recording can be seen below:
The band has confirmed several summer dates and festivals in support of the forthcoming album.

Firewind + Arch Enemy = SPIRITUAL BEGGARS?
Sweden’s SPIRITUAL BEGGARS – featuring guitarist Michael Amott (ARCH ENEMY, CARCASS) and bassist Sharlee D’Angelo (Arch Enemy, WITCHERY) – started working with Apollo Papathanasio (FIREWIND) as a new singer after parting ways with JB (GRAND MAGUS) and finished the recordings of their 7th studio-album at Sweetspot Studio with producer Rickard Bengtsson, who already produced the On Fire (2002) and Demons (2005) albums, and is also known for his work with Arch Enemy, OPETH, etc.
“The new Spiritual Beggars album is to my ears some of best stuff I’ve ever done with this band and I’m very much looking forward to releasing the seventh Spiritual Beggars studio album, Return To Zero, with the help and expertise of the InsideOut team! At the end of the day it was a no-brainer to do a new licensing deal with the InsideOut label, they did a great job on the Demons album and the Live Fire! DVD (2006). Since then, they have merged with the Century Media company whom I have a long and successful history with. I already know a lot of the people that will be involved in this release, and that feels good.” says founding member Michael Amott. “I respect InsideOut label boss Thomas Waber for being a true music fan and for his undying enthusiasm and efforts in making this deal happen.”
Also Thomas Waber (IOM) is really happy about re-signing a deal with Spiritual Beggars and welcomes the band again to the InsideOut roster. “We had a great experience with the Demons album and are looking forward to working the new one as well. After all the turmoil last year, things are back on top and better than ever and Spiritual Beggars will no doubt benefit from this!”
The new album, Return To Zero, will be released on August 30th in Europe. In an interview with the Japanese Burrn! Magazine Michael Amott talks about the new singer Apollo and the new album and gives a short impression of how the album sounds like “Apollo’s influences are very much rooted in the classic rock and metal of the 70s and 80s. He is the same age as the rest of us in Spiritual Beggars so we instantly shared a lot of common ground musically, and he really connected with the songs and delivered emotional vocals that really impressed us all. I was always aware of the fact that he is great singer. However, even I was surprised how well his voice fit Spiritual Beggars, in the new and the old songs. Apollo is showing a range and depth on this album that I believe will both surprise and please the Spiritual Beggars fans! The new album has a lot of the typical Spiritual Beggars trademarks, it’s heavy rock with a 70s atmosphere – but I also hear a definite progression and a deeper sense of melody in the songwriting and performances. It’s exactly the kind of record I wanted to make with Spiritual Beggars in 2010!”
On the Spiritual Beggars official MySpace page, the band uploaded a short audio sample of the new album as a pre-listening.
Spiritual Beggars lineup:
Michael Amott (Arch Enemy, Carcass) – Guitars
Ludwig Witt (Firebird) – Drums
Per Wiberg (Opeth) – Keyboards
Sharlee D’Angelo (Arch Enemy, Witchery) – Bass
Apollo Papathanasio (Firewind) – Vocals

Anyone even remotely familiar with the metal scene knows who Michael Amott is. With the recent announcement of a long-awaited Carcass reunion and the increasing popularity of his main band Arch Enemy, Mike is a busy man. Fortunately I was able to speak with him during his current North American tour and get his thoughts on everything.
