This list is meant to highlight NEW TALENT. For our purposes, that is defined as a singer who made their professional recording debut in the past 10 years (from 2005-2015). This means the singer was not on any recorded label releases prior to 2005. Keeping that in mind, we focus on some of the younger/newer talent that is out there.
We asked our staff to give us their top 5 selections and some thoughts on them. Check out the results below.
Without meaning to disrespect their rivals, it’s pretty fair to say that Kreator are the biggest non-American thrash band in the world. Since 2001’s ‘Violent Revolution,’ they’ve been on a constant upward trajectory and haven’t delivered a bad album for thirteen years. They’re one of the few bands whose post-millennial output has been arguably better than the stuff they did in the eighties (yeah, we went there) and tonight’s high octane show at the Forum, co-headlining with Arch Enemy demonstrates they’re just as capable live as on record. It’s also one of the few occasions where a band winds up throwing bits of birthday cake into the crowd. Read the rest of this entry »

A while ago I hooked up with guitar virtuoso Johan Reinholdz (Andromeda, Skyfire) in order to talk about the brilliant new Nonexist album FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS. The band is back on track again and since I love the bands music I thought it was time to feature the band once again in Metal-Rules.com. The first Nonexist album came out in 2002 called DEUS DECEPTOR and I urge every fan of extreme metal to check out the bands two albums so far. Reinholdz and I spoke about putting the band together again, his relationship to the singer – the wellknown Johan Liiva (ex- Arch Enemy, Hearse, Furbowl) and what the future has in store for Nonexist.
Metal, beer and bratwurst are the unholy alliance at German metal festivals. Those festivals are those things that every banger has to experiment once in lifetime. Even though festivals are packed by those obvious and quaranteed bands on the bill, but missing the true metal feeling is something. Summer Breeze has grown tremendously and gained the monumental status amongst several other metal festivals in Germany. The main headliner of this year was without any doubts Machine Head. The Summer Breeze festival is the well organized metal festival in Southern Germany. Even though most of bands appeal to the metal public, but some strange German acts such as JBO were on the bill. However, Summer Breeze was a great success, despite the horrible weather. Here is the brief article of the fest.

Hell yeah! It’s time to enter the mighty Swedenrock Festival. A fantastic and the most enjoyable rock and metal festival on earth. It has to be pointed out that Metal Rules has covered Sweden Rock since 2001! Therefore, it is quite logical to cover the festival again. The 2014 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock. Approximately 80 metal and rock bands offered one hell of an experience for attendees. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past decade as the festival has always been sold out. This year wasn’t an exception as the fest was sold out despite a lousy economic situation worldwide. It has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article on several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. The weather was both rainy and sunny during these four days. The Metal-Rules.com team was there to witness the bands, not for some kinda beach party crap. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Rock on!
With a musical career spanning three decades, KREATOR, ambassadors of Germany’s distinctive brand of smoldering thrash metal, will be returning to North America once again, this time as direct support to Sweden’s unstoppable melodic death metallers ARCH ENEMY.
Sponsored by Dean Guitars, the 26-show co-headlining “War Eternal – American Tour 2014” features support from California’s HUNTRESS and Chicago’s STARKILL (on select dates). The trek launches on October 23rd in Baltimore, Maryland, includes eight Canadian shows, and ends on November 23rd in Cleveland, Ohio.
“It’s been three long years since ARCH ENEMY last played North America, but now the wait is over!” states ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott. “We’re riding a veritable metal tsunami in Europe with our new album War Eternal and look forward to spreading the chaos on this North American run!ARCH ENEMY is very proud and excited to be teaming up with Teutonic thrash titans KREATOR as well as HUNTRESS and STARKILL! Miss this show at your own peril!”
“Both bands have been talking about touring together for many years, now it becomes reality,” states KREATOR guitarist frontman Mille Petrozza.“KREATOR and ARCH ENEMY on one bill in the USA and Canada! We are looking forward for another killer run in support of our album Phantom Antichrist before we will start writing new stuff in 2015! With ARCH ENEMY’s new album War Eternal being a monster, this will be THE metal tour of the fall. Don’t miss it!”
We join Alissa White-Gluz and Micheal Amott in the Century Media Records offices in Camden Town, right by the Camden Lock in London, UK, and just a bridge away from arguably the most frequented metal bar in the area. The setting is pleasantly metal on a tranquil spring afternoon.
Arch Enemy has received a lot of publicity lately, following the announcement in March that Angela Gossow will be stepping down as a vocalist. Plus their new album, War Eternal (2014), is on its way out. We are curious to find out more.
Extreme metal icons ARCH ENEMY will unleash their 9th studio album, War Eternal, worldwide via Century Media Records (Trooper Entertainment in Japan) on June 9th in Europe and June 10th in North America. The artwork for the album was created by Costin Chioreanu (http://twilight13media.com/), who previously worked with Michael Amott on SPIRITUAL BEGGARS’ re-issue of their self-titled debut.
Chief song-writer, guitarist and band leader Michael Amott comments: “I was looking for a hand-drawn feel with a unique atmosphere, something that would complement the music that we’ve been working so hard on these last couple of years. In the end my choice fell upon Romanian artist Chioreanu Costin, who’s work I’ve admired for some time. Costin really grasped my vision for the artwork and layout, he’s delivered some of the coolest artwork elements we’ve ever had with ARCH ENEMY!”
ARCH ENEMY’s upcoming album, War Eternal, was recorded in various studios during winter 2013/2014 and produced by the band themselves with Jens Bogren (OPETH, PARADISE LOST, KREATOR) mixing and mastering the album at Fascination Street Studio. For a preview of War Eternal, be sure to check out the official video for the album’s title track, created by Patric Ullaeus: http://youtu.be/InRMwptcgAo

In early June 2014, Arch Enemy will unleash their 9th studio album, War Eternal, worldwide via Century Media Records and Trooper Entertainment in Japan. With this upcoming release, the band will introduce a new member to their ranks: Alissa White-Gluz, former vocalist of Canadian extreme metallers The Agonist. Angela Gossow, who joined Arch Enemy in 2000 and made her debut on the now classic Wages Of Sin (2001), will be stepping down as front-woman and focusing on management, while Alissa takes her place.
Angela Gossow comments:
“Dear ARCH ENEMY fans, this is not easy to tell you…I have decided to step down from being ARCH ENEMY’s voice of anger. After 13 years of pure fucking metal, 6 studio albums and countless tours through five continents, I feel the need to enter a different phase in my life, be with my family and pursue other interests. I will however remain business manager for ARCH ENEMY, and I will continue to develop my artist management roster. I am staying true to my heavy metal roots, just leaving the spotlight so to speak. I am passing the torch to the super talented Alissa White-Gluz, whom I’ve known as a dear friend and a superb vocalist for many years. I always thought she deserved a chance to shine – and now she’s getting it. Just like I got that chance back in 2001.
I want to thank all ARCH ENEMY fans, our labels Century Media (worldwide) and Trooper Entertainment (Japan), our dedicated road crew, and in particular Michael, Daniel and Sharlee for their love and support throughout all these years. It’s been one hell of a ride! We conquered every situation, made it through thick & thin together in the most exciting and rewarding time of my life. Thank you all for being there with me on stage, in front of the stage, and backstage. You have touched my heart, and I hope I was able to give something back to you. I am grateful for the wonderful memories – I will cherish them forever! I am looking forward to the next decade of ARCH ENEMY madness! Right now I am listening through rough mixes of the new studio album and I am blown away! 2014 will see a renewed ARCH ENEMY at the top of their game. I am proud to be part of this ARCH ENEMY chapter, albeit in a different way – revving up the engines behind the scenes. I hope to see you in front of the stage; I will join you there this time. Let the killing begin, once again!”

The legendary Carcass returned with a vengeance! Their new album SURGICAL STEEL is an amazing piece of evidence showing how the band has remained stainless and sharp. The album has literally blown both new and old fans easily away. Carcass embarked on their European tour with Swedish viking metallers Amon Amarth and British occult metallers Hell. They arrived to Helsinki to play a sold out show for the Finnish metal freaks. Before the show, Metal-Rules.com talked to Bill Steer about touring, Carcass re-union time, past times, and of course the new album. Read the rest of this entry »
ARCH ENEMY have been forced to cancel all their European festival appearances, including their Wacken Open Air performance, due to private family matters.
An official statement from the band follows: “It is with great disappointment that we have to cancel our shows at European festivals this summer. The reason for this being private family matters that demand our full attention, making it difficult to fulfill our commitments in that time frame. We are currently looking into the possibility of rescheduling these festival slots for next year. We would like to thank the festival promoters, and of course the fans for their understanding and continued support. We will use this downtime to finish up the work on our upcoming DVD/Blu-ray and continue with the songwriting process of the next Arch Enemy album. We look forward to seeing you all in 2014! Metal on!”
Although their local climate may get down to temperatures that could freeze your bits off, Canadian metallers Titans Eve’s fingers certainly aren’t getting cold in cracking out wave after wave of serious modern thrash. Unleashed only a few months ago, Titans Eve’s second album ‘Life Apocalypse’ has managed to fill even bigger boots than those of its predecessor ‘The Divine Equal’. With the band preparing to hit Europe for the first time with the backing of Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy), guitarist Kyle Gamblin doesn’t leave us out in the cold…
