LOS ANGELES, CA – The surprise isn’t that Anthrax’s “I’m Alive” received a Grammy nomination last night for Best Rock/Metal Performance; the surprise is that it comes more than a year after the track’s September 13, 2011 release on the band’s critical smash, Worship Music, which was named was of the best metal albums of 2011 by numerous media outlets, and provided the band with the rock’n’roll comeback story of the year. This is the fourth Grammy nomination for Anthrax – Charlie Benante/drums, Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano/guitars, Frank Bello/bass, Joey Belladonna/vocals.
L-R: Ian, Benante, Bello, Belladonna, Caggiano
“I was watching The Dave Matthews Band perform when I received a text saying ‘Congrats on the Grammy nomination!’,” said Benante. “Huh? I had lost all hope of ever being nominated for another Grammy, but I guess I was wrong. We put so much hard work into ‘Worship Music,’ and I am so honored to be nominated with a group of bands that have also sustained the Test of Time like the legendary Maiden and Megadeth. Heavy Metal is a Force, it has fans that range from six to 66, and I’m so proud to be a part of this Force…it’s in all of us.”
Anthrax fans waited eight long years for Worship Music, the band’s first studio album since 2003’s We’ve Come For You All,that features the return of “classic era” vocalist Belladonna making his first Anthrax album in twenty years. Since its September 13 release and subsequent debut at #12 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, Worship Musichas received glowing praise from numerous critics and music tastemakers, including That Metal Show’s Eddie Trunk and Alexander Milas, editor of the UK’s Metal Hammer. Loudwire named it the #1 Metal Album of the Year.
The return of Belladonna and Anthrax’s remarkable renewal began in 2009 in a Cleveland hotel bar. Anthrax’s Benante and Ian, and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich were in town for the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame when Lars first brought up the idea of The Big Four – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, the four bands that served as the original architects for the “thrash/speed-metal” scene,” yet had never shared the same stage before. The first of (so far) fourteen Big Four events took place on June 16, 2010, culminating in what was Anthrax’s New York homecoming concert – The Big Four at Yankee Stadium on September 14, the day after Worship Music hit stores. “We came into The Big Four as the underdog,” said Benante. “We were the band that had the most to prove, and we’ve worked really, really hard to do that.”
Anthrax continues touring in support of Worship Music having just completed a European tour with Motorhead, and will be announcing North American plans for 2013 shortly.
Old school thrash metallers rejoice – this is a fucking great time to be a metalhead! ‘80s thrash metal is having a bit of a second renaissance now, with Big 4, the return of Joey Belladonna, Alex Skolnick, and David Ellefson to Anthrax, Testament, and Megadeth respectively, and new albums from each of these bands. This time last year, Anthrax announced they would be touring with Testament and Death Angel to support their new album, WORSHIP MUSIC. Back in 1987, Anthrax took Testament on their first European tour, so this 2011 – 2012 US tour was flashback to that classic time period. The Anthrax / Testament / Death Angel tour was so successful they added a second leg and a third leg. Tonight’s show in Atlantic City, NJ is the final show of the third leg. This is the last time to catch these thrash legends on the same bill. Read the rest of this entry »
On September 21, 2012 a great triple bill of thrash veterans had fans’ anticipation high and tickets selling so well, that the gig was moved to a larger venue. On a hot Friday night in Calgary, Alta., Anthrax, Testament and Death Angel took over MacEwan Hall. The venue usually hosts all-ages shows but this time the show remained an 18+ event and the milling crowd appreciated still being able to have their beers and enjoy the concert. Mayhem is a US metal festival sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink that has been around since 2008. It usually has a mix of current popular bands and some classic ones. One of the good things about Mayhem is that it always books large venues that are nearby for me, like Toyota Pavilion in Scranton, Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, and PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. If there are bands playing that I love, I can hit multiple shows. This year’s version has metal heavyweights Slayer, Motorhead, and Anthrax, which are 3 of my all-time favorite bands. Therefore, in addition to this show in Scranton, I caught the Camden one the week before as well. Today marks my 12th Motorhead show, 9th Anthrax show, and 5th Slayer show and I intend to keep adding to those totals! Read the rest of this entry »
New Anthrax Dates Announced for September/October Tour
Bassist Frank Bello Headed for Toronto Film Festival
NASA’s Curiosity Wakes Up to a Dose of Anthrax
They are one of the bands that helped define the “metal/thrash” genre (with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth – The Big Four). Their music has been played at New York’s Yankee Stadium, in Moscow, Warsaw, Australia, Japan, and at Castle Donington in the UK. But now, thanks to NASA, Anthrax is the first metal band to ever have its music played on Mars.
“Got The Time,” from the band’s 1990 Gold-certified Persistence of Time, was one of several songs on NASA’s wake-up playlist for the Mars Rover, Curiosity, that touched down on the Red Planet August 5. “Got The Time” woke Curiosity up on Day Six, along with “Echelon” by 30 Seconds to Mars. Since Curiosity’s Mars landing, the playlist has also included The Beatles’ “Good Morning Good Morning,” the theme from “Star Wars,” and Wagner’s “The Ride of the Valkyries.”
As Anthrax’s Scott Ian put it, “Yes, there will be moshing on Mars.”
Next on Anthrax’s Planet Earth agenda is a Fall co-headline tour with Testament, with Death Angel supporting. This will be Leg Three of the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel hat-trick, and will mark Anthrax’s first tour of Canada in support of the band’s most recent release, Worship Music, called the Metal Album of the Year by an abundance of journalists.
Added Ian, “With Testament and Death Angel before, we played sold-out shows, raging crowds and EPIC war dances, and we can’t wait to do it again, especially for our Canadian fans who have been waiting a long to time ‘worship music’ with us.”
Several new dates have been added to the thrash-fest routing, including shows in Chicago, Detroit, Hartford and Atlantic City. The complete itinerary is below.
And if that’s not enough Anthrax news for you, Anthrax’s bassist, Frank Bello, will attend the premiere of “Greetings From Tim Buckley” at next month’s Toronto Film Festival. Bello made his feature film debut in the supporting role of punk rock legend Richard Hell in the film that stars Penn Badgley of “Gossip Girl” fame. Bello auditioned for the role on a Thursday, was cast on Friday, and reported to the set the following Monday, the morning after Anthrax’s big Yankee Stadium concert last September with The Big Four.
With the new dates added, the complete itinerary for the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel thrash-fest are as follows:
14 Ace of Spades, Sacramento, CA
15 Roseland Theatre, Portland, OR
16 Toyota Arena, Kennewick, WA
17 Knitting Factory, Spokane, WA

2 Metropolis, Montreal, QC
3 State Theatre, Portland, ME
4 Webster Theatre, Hartford, CT
5 Wellmont Theatre, Montclair, NJ
6 House of Blues, Atlantic City, NJ
For Anthrax – Scott Ian/guitar, Charlie Benante/drums, Rob Caggiano/guitar, Joey Belladonna/vocals, and Frank Bello/bass – this co-headline tour with Testament will follow the band’s summer-long slot on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival where they headlined the tour’s Jagermeister Stage, and played a special “bare bones, guerrilla” performance. The Mayhem tour, as well as these dates with Testament, are in support of 2011’s Worship Music, Anthrax’s first new album in eight years, and the first with Belladonna on vocals in twenty years. The album debuted at #12 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, has received stellar reviews and been called “the metal album of the year” by numerous critics and music tastemakers, including VH-1/That Metal Show’s Eddie Trunk, and Alexander Milas, editor of the UK’s Metal Hammer. Worship Music also landed on copious amounts of “year-end-bests” lists.
The return of Belladonna and Anthrax’s remarkable renewal began in 2009 in a Cleveland hotel bar with Anthrax’s Benante and Ian, and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, when he first brought up the idea of The Big Four – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, the four bands that served as the original architects for the “thrash/speed-metal” scene,” yet had never shared the same stage before. The first of (so far) fourteen Big Four events took place on June 16, 2010, culminating in what was Anthrax’s New York homecoming concert – The Big Four at Yankee Stadium on September 14, 2011, the day after Worship Music hit stores. “We came into The Big Four as the underdog,” said Benante. “We were the band that had the most to prove, and we’ve worked really, really hard to do that.”
Anthrax’s worldwide sales have exceeded 10-million and the band has received multiple Gold and Platinum albums, numerous Grammy nominations, and a host of other accolades from the press, industry and fans.

Line Up So Far: ANTHRAX
Here comes a review of the great Copenhell festival that took place during two slightly rainy days in the middle of June. Acts that performed included Slayer, Anthrax, Lamb Of God, Immortal, Saxon, Gojira etc.. Lets take a closer look at what the festival had to bring…..
Despite its reputation for a tricky commute and arguably eyesore appearance (don’t confuse familiarity with satisfaction, fellow Londoners), the O2 Arena is a fantastic venue space for the Golden Gods and ample notice that metal is still as healthy as it ever was, showing no signs of bowing to austerity measures.
What would we do without this yearly event?
Well, for a start we’d probably have healthier livers and better hearing in our later years, however many would also be deprived of their chance to postpone their Download hangovers or simply be given a reason to wash off this year’s festival mud and watch some of the scene’s glitterati forget about their day jobs for an evening. Metal Hammer Magazine’s annual schmoozefest is upon us, and with it a dazzling array of leather, lip gloss & limp fringes.
ANTHRAX, TESTAMENT, DEATH ANGEL TO BRING THRASH-FEST EXTRAVAGANZA TO CANADA AND SELECT U.S. CITIES
LOS ANGELES, CA – May 31, 2012 — Fans in Canada and select cities in the northern part of the U.S. will finally have a chance to see what reviewers have called “The Best Metal Tour of the Year,” when co-headliners Anthrax and Testament, joined by DeathAngel, kick off a late-summer trek on September 14. Starting in Portland, OR, the bands will work their way north, cross into Canada, and play all of the major Canadian cities before wrapping up in Montclair, NJ on October 5. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 1. For more information and to purchase tickets, log onto http://anthrax.com – http.//www.testamentlegions.com or http://deathangel.us
This run will be the third leg of the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel hat-trick; the three bands packed five weeks worth of venues coast-to-coast last Fall, marking the first time Anthrax and Testament had shared a stage in more than a decade; again, earlier this year, the line-up played another dozen dates to headbangers in cities from Las Vegas to New York.
According to Anthrax’s guitarist Scott Ian, “We played to sold-out shows, raging crowds and EPIC war dances, and we can’t wait to do it again, especially for our Canadian fans who have been waiting a long to time ‘worship music’ with us.”
“There have been very few three band bills in which the acts are so compatible and the shows so consistent that a second leg of the tour is a “no-brainer,” said Testament’s lead guitarist Alex Skolnick. “But in the case of Anthrax, Testament and Death Angel, that’s been the case. Things have gone so well, in fact, that it’s made sense to add a third leg with this exact same line up. All three bands are excited to take this show into new territory with a trek across Canada, and a few spots in the US we missed last time around. And this time, Testament will be armed with a brand new album with music that we’re eager to share with everyone. Hope to see you out there!”
“We’ve been tight with the guys in Testament for a long, long time, and had a great time touring with them before,” added Anthrax’s drummer Charlie Benante. “And all of us in Anthrax are big Death Angel fans, so this is going to be a monster of a great time, for us and for the fans.”
Said Testament’s frontman Chuck Billy, “It’s good to see that metal is alive in 2012 and the fans want a third leg of the Anthrax, Testament, Death Angel tour. Don’t fucking miss it! Metal Forever!”
With more dates to be confirmed, the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel tour are as follows:

DAN AND HIS WIFE CANDI HAVE TWIN SONS WITH AUTISM WHO ARE THE SUBJECT OF A DOCUMENTARY FOR SHEKNOWS.COM
Dan Spitz, founder and former guitar player for Anthrax and current creator of Red Lamb, and his wife Candi as well as their twin four-year-old boys are raising awareness of the life-changing effects of Autism by participating in this Sunday’s Walk Now for Autism Speaks at City Commons in West Palm Beach, Fla.
“Autism is what makes our children special, we do not see it as a disability. They are beautiful, intelligent, silly and we love that they see the world differently,” explains Candi Spitz, who is also on the committee for Autism Speaks. The couple’s four-year-old twin songs Autism diagnosis has given the Spitz family a mission to do all they can for not only their children but the 1 in 110 U.S. children currently diagnosed with the disease.

The currently untitled documentary is being produced by SheKnows.com, a prominent parenting website that won both a 2010 and 2011 OMMA Award for Excellence.
Dan Spitz formed Red Lamb in 2010 and recently released a self-titled debut album co-produced with Dave Mustaine (Megadeth).
