Says ANGRA guitarist Rafael Bittencourt: “Oh boy! My spine is still giving me goosebumps!
“Kiko is in MEGADETH! Wow! What a feeling of pride!
“I have known Kiko for many years and he deserves this great opportunity more than anyone else.
“I usually say that we have a brotherhood’s relationship, so we always wish the best for each other.
“Kiko has been tracking a very serious and talented career.
“I take to say this is also an amazing achievement for Brazilian metal.
“The beginning of this new epic stage is something we all should celebrate. It will be great for ANGRA and for all Brazilian bands, since it draws attention and highlights the talent of Brazilian musicians in general.
“Regarding the works with ANGRA, I believe he will comply with all activities that he has already committed to and he will always be part of our family. He will definitively not be able to turn his back for something he helped build with so much effort. I’m sure we will still make a lot together, either in or out of ANGRA.

Dave Mustaine announced the new guitarist for Megadeth today and as suspected, it’s Kiko!!
“I first met Kiko around 8 years ago for a cover shoot for Burrn! magazine. I had no idea who he was, other than the fact he was tremendously talented and that the staff from Burrn! held him in high regard. Since then I’ve come to see what a guitar virtuoso he is, and I’m deeply encouraged by his depth and talent. Very few Megadeth alumni have had the same feel and ability as Kiko. As Frank Sinatra says, “the best is yet to come!” -Dave Mustaine”
Brazilian guitarist Kiko Loureiro has been wowing rock fans with his fleet fingered fretwork, and his talents are showcased front and center on the recently-released DVD, ‘The White Balance.’ Featuring special guest performers, including Virgil Donati (Planet X, Allan Holdsworth) on drums, the DVD was filmed on June 14, 2013 at the Auditorio Ibirapuera, in São Paulo, Brazil, and
incorporates all three phases of Kiko’s preferred styles – metal, progressive and Brazilian fusion music.
Kiko Loureiro is a metal fusion solo guitarist and founding member of Brazilian progressive/power metal band Angra. In this interview Kiko had just finished, the previous night, performing at a concert in Sao Paulo, Brazil which was filmed and will be released as
a live performance DVD in the next few months.
Kiko chats about this special concert which featured the 3 different musical styles and chapters in his solo career, from Metal, Progressive and Brazilian fusion music. The concert also featured special guest performers such as Virgil Donati (Planet X, Allan Holdsworth) on drums.
Kiko also shares his early musical roots, the formation of Angra, his approach to songwriting and soloing, and a lot more.
South America has provided quite a few important historical moments in rock n’ roll over the years. Case in point, Kiss performing their final concert in make-up before unmasking in 1983, Queen headlining the first-ever Rock in Rio Festival in 1985, the continent spawning one of the world’s most renowned metal bands, Sepultura, etc. And South America is also home to prog metal vets Angra, who have steadily issued challenging yet heavy albums on a regular basis since 1993.
And now comes an expanded edition of the fourth solo album overall from the band’s leader, guitarist Kiko Loureiro – ‘Sounds of Innocence’ – which drops Tuesday, June 18th. iTunes will release a special package, containing the full album and track by track instructional videos – the first time this feature has ever been included on an iTunes album release. Additionally, a Kiko Spotify app “Soundrop” will be issued on the same release date. “‘Sounds of Innocence’ brings a balanced mix of Latin grooves with traditional shredding,” explains Kiko. “It comes at a more mature point of my career but still has first time excitement to it.”
Kiko Loureiro has just finished playing some dates in his home country of Brazil in support of last year’s “Sounds Of Innocence” his fourth solo effort to date. Besides all of the current activity surrounding his current solo work, Kiko is also excited to make another record with Brazilian power metal legends Angra. Following the departure of vocalist Edu Falaschi after the “Aqua” album released in 2010, the band has struggled to find a legitimate replacement for their longtime singer. Kiko recalls performing with Rhapsody Of Fire vocalist Fabio Leone aboard the recent 70,000 Tons Of Metal Cruise and what the future may hold in terms of the next singer for Angra. The gifted metal guitarist also shared his early musical influences and his advice to aspiring players… Read the rest of this entry »

Singer, composer and producer Edu Falaschi (ALMAh, ex-Angra) proudly announces his new “headquarters” in São Paulo (Brazil) – “DO IT! STUDIO” recently established in a partnership with his brother and former Symbols bandmate Tito Falaschi. Besides working at Falaschi’s own projects, such as Almah first of all, it’s a new pleasant home for musicians from Brazil and abroad who dream to create a professional recording having in mind Angra, Almah or Soulspell quality.
During the first weeks of working DO IT! STUDIO has become one of the centers of the independent music in the megapolis and got many contacts from abroad due to its professional and creative approach.
Edu Falaschi: “Actually, DO IT! STUDIO is a real accomplishment of my philosophy as a producer! I have in mind to make REAL sound production according to the international standards. Having worked for more than 10 years with ANGRA, I know what it’s all about, how the production of a professional CD should be done, detail by detail and thinking about the final result as a means to show identity of the band to future fans. Every step of work should be done with a lot of care, from composition and arrangements to mastering!
Well, this year I joined my forces with my brother Tito to create this studio with modern equipment such as Amp Mesaboogie, Pro-Tools, Cubase, Mac computers, Yamaha monitors etc. All this will allow you to get to the best quality to be presented at the music market of today without wasting a lot of money. Due to our experience and contacts we can afford to select good and promising bands to work with. For example, the debut CD of Age Of Artemis (2012) is very successful in Brazil and got a record deal in Japan. Now it’s your turn!
Be serious, be professional and responsible – it’s a good base to establish your future in the music! And welcome to DO IT! STUDIO”.
Brazilian singer, composer and producer Edu Falaschi (Almah, ex-Angra) in a recent interview to Russian webzine Headbanger revealed several details about his past and future career in Angra and Almah, work as a music producer, current metal scene in Brazil and Metal Open Air Festival. It’s the first international interview available in English where the singer honestly explains his voice problems of the last year and tells about the treatment:
“The problem wasn’t with my vocal chords, I had a reflux problem. It’s something that happens in your stomach – when you start eating things that are not so good, like Coca Cola or coffee, your acid starts becoming bigger and bigger and then you feel the acid going up into your vocal chords. Formally I didn’t have any problem with my vocal chords, my vocal chords were OK, but I had a high level of acid so often that I needed a break. I started singing very bad, and I didn’t know why. When I would go to doctors, they would say I was fine, they didn’t see any problem with my vocal chords. It was only a few years later when I found out that the problem was with the acid. Then I started getting treatment, and my voice started to become better and better. Nowadays my voice is OK, and this is very nice.
I have taken nearly five months of treatment, I have taken medicines and visited many doctors, and nowadays I can sing normally. But am I going to take high notes again and risk ruining my voice? No. As Ronnie James Dio said once, “You need to find a way that you can sing forever”. He was a very wise man, he didn’t use high notes all the time, what he did was singing in a comfortable way and a metal way. That’s the point for me. I want to go in this kind of direction with my singing – more natural to my kind of voice, within a more comfortable range. That’s why I decided to sing this way most of the time from now on. Of course, I can sing high notes, I can perfectly sing high notes, but it will happen only sometimes, when I need to sing old songs at concerts”.
ANGRA guitarist Kiko Loureiro has just released his fourth solo album entitled Sounds Of Innocence featuring the drummer Virgil Donati (PLANET X, DEREK SHERINIAN BAND) and the bassist Felipe Andreoli (Angra). The record was produced by Kiko Loureiro, mixed by Dennis Ward (UNISONIC, PINK CREAM 69) and mastered by Jürgen Lusky.
Kiko Loureiro, Felipe Andreoli and Marcelo Moreira (drummer invited for the concerts) will be in Japan next week (July 12 and 14) to perform the songs from the new album and then will leave to Latin America for more gigs. KIKO LOUREIRO – Sounds Of Innocence tracklist:
‘Gray Stone Gateway’
‘Ray Of Life’
‘A Perfect Rhyme’
‘Conflicted’ (Bonus track – back base)
Brazilian metallers ALMAH issue the following statement about the departure of the guitarist Paulo Schroeber due to health problems:
“Dear ALMAh friends and fans!
I think many of you already know about health problems that our brother, partner and member of the band, Paulo Schroeber, has recently faced. Due to these problems we had to call another guitarist to replace him at the latest ALMAH shows during Motion tour, but we always hoped that Paulo would be with us again very soon.
Unfortunately, a very serious heart problem made it impossible for our friend to continue his long-termed works, and we received his message that he had to leave the band! All of us became extremely sad but at the same moment we respect his decision to stay with his family at such a delicate moment.
For us, there remains only one thing: to keep public our eternal support, love and, most of all, gratitude for all the great moments we had together! We are very happy to know that his treatment is going on and the diagnosis is positive. The band is here with all its energy and now it’s even stronger because we do what we love and ‘cos we respect all the dedication of our friend Paulo over these years of hard work and fun.
The name of new ALMAh’s guitarist will be revealed soon, together with announcement of new ways of the band and tour dates for 2012. The band’s “philosophy” to create music for the sake of music in friendship and fun will always be our priority.
Thanks for all,”
Paulo Schroeber recorded two studio albums with ALMAh, “Fragile Equality” (2008) and “Motion” (2011).
ALMAh released its third studio effort “Motion” in September/October 2011 worldwide via AFM (Europe, North America), Victor-JVC (Japan), Laser (Brazil), Icarus (Latin America). The album achieved many positive reviews worldwide and it was recognized as the best album of the year by the main Brazilian rock/metal print medium Roadie Crew. Also, ALMAh got the best band award according to the magazine. In October-December 2011 ALMAh concluded the first leg of Motion Tour in Brazil. The band is confirmed for Metal Open Air in São Luís, Maranhão (Brazil, April 20-22) which is considered as the biggest national metal event.
Brazilian metal singer, composer, producer and arranger Edu Falaschi (ANGRA, ALMAH) who is really famous by his active social position, participated in a new anti-drug campaign started by the organizers of the upcoming Rock In Rio festival. Edu was invited to record a song “I Go Without Any Drugs” together with a few stars of Brazilian popular music (MPB). The reportage about the video recording was broadcast yesterday by the biggest Brazilian TV, Rede Globo in the recent program “Jornal Nacional”.
Edu Falaschi became the only metal singer invited to take part in this campaign together with such outstanding names of Brazilian popular music as Milton Nascimento, Claudia Leitte, Rogério Flausino (Jota Quest), Sandra de Sá, Emicida, Toni Garrido (Cidade Negra), Ivo Meirelles, Rodrigo Santo (Barão Vermelho), Herbet Vianna (Paralamas do Sucesso), Di Ferrero (NX Zero).
Edu Falaschi will perform with ANGRA at the upcoming Rock In Rio, one of the biggest and most important musical festivals not only in Brazil but in the whole world. The band will play on SUNSET stage on 25th of September with a special guest, Finnish Metal Queen Tarja Turunen. With this significant performance at Rock in Rio ANGRA will finalize the current Worldwide Tour supporting the latest CD of the band “Aqua” (2010, SPV). After Rock in Rio Edu Falaschi will start a new tour of ALMAH (www.almah.com.br) dedicated to the upcoming album of the band, MOTION (release date in Europe and North America: October 14th, AFM Records).
Edu Falaschi about the new Almah album in the interview to Brazilian radio ALMAH keeps working at the third studio album, the follow-up to the previous success, Fragile Equality (2008). As we have previously informed, the band has been recording at Norcal Studios (São Paulo, Brazil) since May 2th. This Monday, frontman and founder of Almah, Edu Falaschi, revealed a few details of the new album in an interview to Heavy Nation program broadcasted by one of the most important internet radio stations in Brazil, UOL Radio. Here are the parts of the interview in English:
“It’s the fastest CD-recording I’ve ever done in my life! – tells Edu. – We began working at the end of April and had everything together within one month! I mean, the pre-production, arrangements, the basic parts/solos creation and the guitars/bass/drums recording… Everything took less than one month! And the last week I started to record the vocals. Four songs are almost ready. Also, we already have the cover artwork almost finished and now we’re developing the complete layout for the future CD.
We don’t have any exact date as of now. It will be scheduled taking into account the interests of all our label partners: in Brazil (Lazer Company), Japan (JVC) and Europe&North America (AFM). We’re going to mix and master the material in Europe and we plan to have the new CD ready by the end of July. But most likely we will wait with the official release until September. The new album is produced by the band itself, mainly by me and Felipe, but the entire band have worked at the basic parts, arrangements, songwriting…
Right now Angra is going on the road with Aqua Tour until the Rock In Rio festival, then I will be really concentrated on Almah’s new album. I’m looking forward to present this material, which is probably due in September. We will work with total dedication, because the CD is very good! It’s the heaviest stuff I’ve ever recorded in my life, the guitar work kicks ass!
The guitar parts have been recorded with 7-strings instruments, half-step down (B flat), and the result is very solid and heavy. The rhythm guitars were played four times for extra punch. The new stuff will show that Almah is not really a melodic metal band… But, mainly, this album will make it clear that Almah stands on its ground! While the first CD was my solo one, and the 2nd, Fragile Equaity, was the first album with the current line up, then unknown for the public, this time Almah is very well consolidated as a band. It’s got its own place, sound, identity and, also very important, its own true fan army!”
ALMAH is: Edu Falaschi – vocals, Felipe Andreoli – bass, Marcelo Barbosa – guitars, Paulo Schroeber – guitars, Marcelo Moreira – drums. The band entered Norcal Studios in São Paulo, Brazil on 2th of May. The release of the album, as-yet-untitled, is planned for September 2011 worldwide. The CD will include 10 songs.
Marcelo Barbosa will play three shows with ANGRA in Brazil (Suzano, Angra dos Reis and Brasília/Porão do Rock Festival) replacing the guitarist Kiko Lourero who will skip these live dates due to family reasons.
Marcelo Barbosa is a well recognized guitar master and teacher in Brazil. Besides his career as the founder, owner and professor of GTR Guitar Institute, he became famous as a metal musician thanks to his work in such bands as ALMAH and KHALLICE. In 2007 Barbosa joined ALMAH. The 2nd Almah’s album recorded in the present line-up became one of the best metal releases of the year worldwide. Right now the band is preparing the 3rd studio effort. As we previously reported, at the end of May Barbosa finished the guitar parts for the new long-awaited CD of Almah. Edu Falaschi mentioned in the recent interviews, that it will be the best guitar work he has ever had on his albums.
Thus, no wonder, that one of the leading metal bands in Brazil, Angra, invited Barbosa to replace its permanent guitarist to make these shows. The fans can really expect a great and exciting performance of Angra with Marcelo Barbosa. The first one took place in Suzano, São Paulo state, on 11th of June.
Brazilian metallers ALMAH led by the singer, composer and producer Edu Falaschi (also, Angra) enter the Norcal Studios in São Paulo on 2th of May to record the material for their long awaited 3rd album, the follow-up of successful Fragile Equality (2008). The line-up remains the same: Edu Falaschi – vocals, Felipe Andreoli – bass, Marcelo Barbosa – guitars, Paulo Schroeber – guitars, Marcelo Moreira – drums. The release of the album, as-yet-untitled, is planed for September 2011 worldwide.
“I’m very happy with Almah’s comeback in 2011, first of all, because this third CD should consolidade Almah as a band once and for all!!! This album will show you a mature band and it will define the individuality and language of our sound, which is the most important thing! I’m very exctited to launch it soon!”
Almah was established by Angra’s singer Edu Falaschi in 2006. The previous CD, Fragile Equality saw the light of day in September/October 2008 through JVC (Asia)/Laser Company (Brazil)/AFM Records (Europe, North America) and became one of the most significant and best selling power metal albums at that time. In Brazil it was recognized as the best album of the year and Almah became the best band according to the rock and metal media. The Fragile Equality tour started in São Paulo in November 2008 and finished in June 2010 in Brasília. Then the musicians began to prepare the ideas for the next CD. More details about the new album will be revealed soon.
