Ensiferum @ O2 Islington Academy
18th September 2012
Review by Rhiannon Marley
If you’re a miserable human being, don’t go to see Ensiferum!
I worked that out during the 2011 Ugly World Tour, on which they were joined by fellow Scandinavians Amon Amarth and Children of Bodom, and tonight, I couldn’t wait to see if Ensiferum would slay the crowd again – this time, in leading role!

The Finnish Metal Expo has become more an indoor metal festival in the heart of the Finnish nuclear winter. The line-up of the FME 2012 offered a great and wide deal of metal from the extreme to the more AOR based approach. Even though the whole idea of the metal expedition has dried out within these years, instead bands seem to draw more interest. Nearly 4000 metal worshippers have crawled thru the wintery Helsinki to attend the Finnish Metal Expo. Here is the brief article with a lot of great pictures from The Finnish Metal Expo.

RASKASTA JOULUA – Metal Christmas – live videos available!
It has become a tradition during December that a varying group of Finnish metal musicians take part in the RASKASTA JOULUA-tour, where Christmas songs are being performed in metal-version. This year was the sixth time the tour was organized, and it ended last weekend with three shows at Tavastia, Helsinki. There were two concerts on December 18, an afternoon show without age-limit, and an evening show. Because the evening show was sold out weeks ahead, also an additional concert was organized on Sunday December 19. There are several live-videos available from the concerts on December 18, thanks to CalthaGold.
The combined vocalists of the two gigs were: J. Ahola (TERÄSBETONI, NORTHERN KINGS) JP Leppäluoto (CHARON, HARMAJA, NORTHERN KINGS) Ari Koivunen (AMORAL, solo)Tony Kakko (SONATA ARCTICA, NORTHERN KINGS) Marco Hietala (NIGHTWISH, TAROT, NORTHERN KINGS, SAPATTIVUOSI)Antony Parviainen (MACHINE MEN)Ilja Jalkanen (Ex-KIUAS)Tommi “Tuple” Salmela (TAROT)

Interview by Shaq
Finland is without a doubt one of the top breeding grounds in the world for metal acts, and Amoral is no exception as they continue to rise the ranks. With the release of their newest album REPTILE RIDE impending, I was able to discuss with guitarist and songwriter Ben Varon everything from their demo days right up to the current release.

Intro and interview by Luxi Lahtinen
“Lovecraftian Death Metal…” – sounds like a fascinating title, doesn?t it? The German foursome, Alex, Mike, Christoph and Tobias call Philosopher a ?Lovecraftian Death Metal? band due to band?s strong interest in H.P. Lovecraft?s creations as far as the band?s lyrical approach is concerned. Musically, the Philosopher camp has a certain attraction to old school ?90s Death Metal in which people can associate them with bands like Death, Morgoth or even Morbid Angel. Plain copycatting has, however, luckily been avoided in Philosopher?s heavy and slowly creeping Death Metal approach and the band has already proved to stand out in its own, especially on the band?s debut album THOUGHTS which really shows what this talented German bunch is all about.
I talked to Alex ?Snakes?, the band?s guitarist, just recently and tried to gather together sort of an info kit what Philosopher is really all about as far as the band?s musical journey through the current Death Metal territory goes; basically finding out how they have been received by extreme Metal diggers and wanting to know a bit more what kinds of thoughts Alex has about Philosopher?s position amongst a countless amount of extreme Metal bands these days.
Uh, enough said for an introduction, now let?s get to the point finally?
