The mammoth long-player has been reaping incredible praise from critics nationwide. In a 9/10 review, Blabbermouth compared Surtur Rising to being, “…bludgeoned by your favorite warhammer. Definitely a contender for this year’s best.” Fearnet called it a, “feast of world-destroying metal on par with the band’s career-defining 2008 release Twilight Of The Thunder God,” while Decibel Magazine commended the band noting, “it’s a pleasure to learn one of metal’s most consistent bands remains as indefatigable as ever.” Pop Matters called the record “…another momentous album for AMON AMARTH, leaving no doubt that they are one of the best metal bands in the world!,” and Live-Metal agreed: “…one of the strongest, most massively heavy death metal bands around…”

More on Surtur Rising:
Surtur Rising marks AMON AMARTH’s eighth studio release and undoubtedly one of 2011’s most anticipated albums by fans and critics alike. Surtur Rising is the follow-up to the highly acclaimed 2008 release, Twilight Of The Thunder God, which landed the #7 spot in Revolver Magazine’s Top 20 Albums of 2008 and what MetalSucks called a ”bottomless gauntlet of riffs that the band endlessly takes gargantuan swigs from, sounding both lush and emotive as well as skull crushingly heavy… every goddamn one is a chest-beating anthem.” Outburn declared how Twilight Of The Thunder God “will render you nothing short of ecstatic” and Time Out New York noted that “AMON AMARTH plays some of the most unabashedly epic metal you’re likely to find these days.” Further details on Surtur Rising to come. SWEDENROCK FESTIVAL
Solvesborg 4-7.07 2008
REPORT AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ AND ARTO LEHTINEN
ADDITIONAL REVIEWS BY JARNO HUOVILA
Sjutton också… The summer has arrived, hasn’t it?! Sunny, rainy, and even ice cold weather all together at Sweden Rock
However, it is time for the annual march to Sweden Rock. This is the ninth time in a row that Metal-Rules.com has made a vist to the mighty Sweden Rock festival! All in all over 70 bands had been booked for the Sweden Rock festival that turned out to be nothing but an utter blast from the beginning to the end! The bill of Sweden Rock 2009 covered everything from extreme metal ala Immortal to classic rock ala Journey and of course everything between. Therefore, there was at least something for everyone who attended. As a tradition the whole festival was once again sold out when approximately 35,200 people and all the bands and crews etc at the area every day. As mentioned in the first sentence, this is the ninth time in a row when Sweden Rock has been featured on the site Metal-Rules.com, so it is quite logical for us to give a real in-depth article of several bands performing at Sweden Rock. We are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Enjoy or die !!!

Interview with guitarist Olavi Mikkonen
Interview conducted and transcribed by HannTu
Amon Amarth finally return to the UK on a headlining tour, on the back of an unbelievably good seventh studio album, TWILIGHT OF THE THUNDER GODS, and I was eager to get some of the guys’ thoughts. I got to speak to Olavi Mikkonen, one of their two guitarists. His English wasn’t amazing, but he was friendly and very good-natured, great to speak to.
