Interview by Arto Lehtinen and Marko Syrjälä

Transcription by David Groves

Megadeth headlined the third day at Tuska and offered a great deal of the classic Megadeth tunes as well as newer stuff from the excellent ENDGAME album. Before Megadeth concluded the annual Tuska festival, we had the great opportunity to talk to the band’s guitarist Chris Broderick about the big four tour, the latest studio album, and of course Jag Panzer and Nevermore.

DAVID ELLEFSON

INTERVIEW AND LIVE PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

Transcription by Antaura Zed

David Ellefson is a co-founder and original bassist for legendary metal band Megadeth. Other than vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine, he was the only constant member of Megadeth from the time of their establishment in 1983 to the group’s hiatus in 2002. During that period Megadeth released nine highly successful albums like: RUST IN PEACE, PEACE SELLS … BUT WHO’S BUYING and YOUTHANASIA which are nowadays a thrash metal classics. Mustaine subsequently reformed Megadeth in 2004 but without David Ellefson and it wasn’t until last February when he finally re-joined in the band. During his off-Megadeth years, Ellefson worked with several different bands and projects including: Soulfly, Tim “Ripper” Owens, Killing Machine, F5, and all-star cover band Hail!. Megadeth are currently on tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of RUST IN PEACE and in July 2010 the band arrived to headline the Tuska Festival in Helsinki. Here’s what Dave had to say about their reunion, the projects, and about the future of Megadeth… read on!

Jimmy DeGrasso – Alice Cooper, Hail!, F5, ex- Megadeth, Y&T, Suicidal Tendencies

Jimmy DeGrasso

JIMMY DeGRASSO

INTERVIEW AND LIVE PICTURES  BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

TRANSCRIPTION BY PETTERI LIMNELL, EVILG AND RICK

American born drummer Jimmy DeGrasso is probably best known for his work with Megadeth, but he’s also been involved with many other interesting bands and projects during his long career.  In mid 80′s, after moving from Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, Jimmy first did studio sessions with the “Prince of Darkness” himself, Ozzy Osbourne, before getting his first permanent job from Californian rockers Y & T in 1986. After many successful years with them, Jimmy decided to leave Y & T in 1990 and in the subsequent years he toured with such names as Lita Ford and Alice in Chains before joining the thrash/punk/hardcore crossover  group Suicidal Tendencies in 2004. Unfortunately, the band broke up soon later and next Jimmy joined Alice Cooper’s touring band. He’s been working with Alice on and off since then. In 1998 he joined Megadeth and stayed with them until the band (temporarily) disbanded in 2002. Today Jimmy is a highly sought after session and touring drummer.  He’s also a full time member of all-star band “HAIL!” along with his former Megadeth bandmate David Ellefsson, Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser, and vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens. Jimmy has also another band with Ellefsson called F5 and they released the album THE RECKONING in 2008.  In  December (2009) Jimmy came to Finland with Alice Cooper and then I had a chance to sit down with him and discuss his past, present and near future plans. Joe Lynn Turner: solo artist, Brazen Abbot, ex- Rainbow, ex- Deep Purple, etc…

October 15th, 2007

JOE LYNN TURNER

Joe Lynn Turner’s recording career, spanning three full decades, is too impressive to be described in just a few sentences. He will, however, forever be first and foremost recognized as the man responsible for leading the legendary hard rock band Rainbow to it’s greatest commercial heights. Taking over the reigns from Graham Bonnet, who had only endured one album in the giant shoes left by Ronnie James Dio, Joe recorded three classic albums, DIFFICULT TO CURE in 1981, STRAIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES in 1982 and BENT OUT OF SHAPE in 1983. Before reuniting with Mr. Blackmore once again, this time at the helm of Deep Purple to record the SLAVES AND MASTERS album in 1989, Joe helped Yngwie Malmsteen craft his arguably best work to date, the ODYSSEY in 1988.Through the years Joe Lynn Turner has also released numerous well received solo albums and worked with many great bands such as Mother’s Army. In the past decade he has, among other things, worked with Nikolo Kotzev on five albums, Brazen Abbot’s EYE OF STORM in 1996, BAD RELIGION in 1997, GUILTY AS SIN in 2003 and MY RESURRECTION in 2005 as well as Nikolo Kotzev’s double album NOSTRADAMUS in 2001. He’s also released and toured several albums with fellow Deep Purple alumni Glenn Hughes. We hope that you enjoy this look into Joe’s career, past, present and future!
