Brad Whitford of Aerosmith and Derek St Holmes of Ted Nugent’s band have joined forces once again to develop a soulful, maximum infused CD entitled, Reunion, due out this June. With melodic riffs generated from members of two of American’s biggest bands, the dynamic duo are reclaiming the magic to create their second CD in thirty years!
With Derek’s blues bravado vocals and Brad’s driving guitar riffs, the two unleash some memorable tunes like “Catch My Fall,” “Hot for You,” “Hell is on Fire,” and “Shake it.” Songs that steamrolls the listener and ignite the fires of the heart. To coincide with their release the boys are also partnering up with Whitesnake for a 17 show trek starting June 3rd in Dallas, TX.
I caught up with the legendary guitarist, Brad Whitford, to talk about their new CD, the tour with Whitesnake, and the future of Aerosmith.

WORLDWIDE RELEASE DATE: MAY 1, 2015
Undoubtedly the most important and successful band to come out of the U.S. of A., Aerosmith remain intact after more than four decades of down ‘n dirty rock ’n’ roll. They’ve been called ‘The Bad Boys From Boston’ and ‘America’s Greatest Rock ‘N’ Roll Band’ for a reason. Aerosmith are one of the best-selling American rock bands of all time, having sold over a hundred million albums worldwide. The Boston bad boys have been together for over forty years and like their English heroes, the Rolling Stones, they are still making music and touring well into the 2010s; albeit at a much slower pace than the old days.
However, outside of the band Joe Perry has enjoyed a solo career that has attained cult status. Once A Rocker, Always A Rocker explores the original Joe Perry Project, notably the superlative first two albums: Let The Music Do The Talking and I’ve Got The Rock ’N’ Rolls Again as well as 1983’s less well-received Once A Rocker, Always A Rocker. Perry restarted his solo career in the noughties with 2005’s self-titled album and 2009’s Have Guitar, Will Travel and more recently, the 2014 EP, Joe Perry’s Merry Christmas. But it’s those first two albums that really made an impression.
Following their wildly successful and acclaimed 2014 Let Rock Rule tour, AEROSMITH–Rock’s greatest live act–will return to the road June 13 with their “Blue Army Tour 2015.” The trek will take the band’s all original members–Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton, and Brad Whitford–to 15 cities before concluding in Grand Rapids, MI on Tuesday, August 4.
Says Joe Perry: “The name Blue Army came from the fact that ‘everyone’ in our audience from the 70’s were wearing blue denim and it looked like a sea of blue, thus The Blue Army.”
Immediately following the tour, AEROSMITH will perform on Friday, August 7 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s first-ever Concert for Legends. The concert–part of the 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival–will pay tribute to the legends of the game on the eve of the Enshrinement for the Class of 2015.
On the “Blue Army Tour 2015,” AEROSMITH will perform a set including their career-defining biggest hits, many of which are highlighted of their upcoming Aerosmith Rocks Donington 2014 DVD (Eagle Rock Entertainment). Captured live at Donington Park in Leicestershire, UK, in June 2014 as part of the band’s critically acclaimed Let Rock Rule definitive rock & roll experience, the DVD (release date TBD) features 19 of the band’s most iconic hits including “Love In A Elevator,” “Janie’s Got A Gun,“ “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing,” “Dude Looks Like A Lady,” “Walk This Way,” “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion” and many more.
AEROSMITH are a living piece of American music history, having sold over 150 million albums worldwide and been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are the recipients of countless awards including four GRAMMYs, eight American Music Awards, six Billboard Awards and 12 MTV Video Music Awards, among many other honors. Their latest honors include the 2013 ASCAP Founders Award and induction, also in 2013, into the Songwriter Hall of Fame at the 44th annual SHOF ceremony. MUSIC FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION! (Columbia) , the band’s latest album, was released in late 2012. Proving that they can cross genre-boundaries with ease, these rock legends have even taken home a Soul Train Award for Best Rap Single for their remix of Run DMC’s “Walk This Way.” With scores of multi-platinum albums, AEROSMITH continues to inspire generations to get their wings, get a grip and just push play. It is no wonder why they are one of the most beloved bands of all time.

AEROSMITH: April 2015 Marks 40th Anniversary Of ‘Toys In The Attic’, Band To Embark On ‘Blue Army Tour’
With AEROSMITH set for another massive summer tour, the iconic and pioneering band has one more reason to celebrate in 2015: the 40th anniversary of the release of their landmark album TOYS IN THE ATTIC. Released April 8, 1975 , the album was AEROSMITH’s third release, becoming an eight-time platinum album and yielding such immortal tracks as “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion.”
Critical support for the album included:
Gordon Fletcher’s Rolling Stone album review (7/31/1975) noted: “a five-piece Boston hard-rock band with almost unlimited potential…Aerosmith can be very good…and material like ‘Walk This Way,’ ‘Sweet Emotion’ and the title cut adequately proves this…”
Robert Christgau gave the album a B+ review for Consumer Guide saying, “These boys are learning a trade in record time…Tyler has a gift for the dirty line as well as the dirty look–anybody who can hook a song called ‘Adam’s Apple’ around the phrase ‘love at first bite’ deserves to rehabilitate a blue blues like ‘Big Ten Inch Record.’”
All Music Guide’s Stephen Thomas Erlewine added: “The success of the album derives from a combination of an increased sense of songwriting skills and purpose. Not only does Joe Perry turn out indelible riffs like ‘Walk This Way,’ ‘Toys in the Attic”…but Steven Tyler has fully embraced sleaziness as his artistic muse. Taking his cue from the old dirty blues ‘Big Ten Inch Record,’ Tyler writes with a gleeful impishness about sex throughout Toys in the Attic , whether it’s the teenage heavy petting of ‘Walk This Way,’ the promiscuous ‘Sweet Emotion,’ or the double-entendres of ‘Uncle Salty’ and ‘Adam’s Apple.’ The rest of Aerosmith, led by Perry’s dirty, exaggerated riffing, provide an appropriately greasy backing. Before Toys in the Attic, no other hard rock band sounded like this…Aerosmith was a gritty, street-wise hard rock band who played their blues as blooze and were in it for a good time; Toys in the Attic crystallizes that attitude.”
Highlights from a VH1.COM (4/7/15) piece entitled “‘Toys in the Attic’ Turns 40: Ranking The Songs On Aerosmith’s Classic Album,” include: “You See Me Crying,” on which “rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford…cascades luscious licks atop the song’s crescendo, turning its closing moments–as well as the album’s–into a breathless rush of, indeed, sweet emotion.” On “Round and Round,” Joey Kramer’s “initial climbing drums that collapse into a cosmic stomp,” while “‘Sweet Emotion’ seems to float up out of a desert heat-storm, powered by Tom Hamilton’s looping bass-line…” And on “Walk This Way”: “Joey Kramer’s stuttering kick-off drumbeats on ‘Walk This Way’ blow open a path for Joe Perry’s guitar riff, which is arguably his most famous and inarguably one of the most perfect in all of rock.” The title track is “a tsunami of [Whitford’s] guitar and [Kramer’s] drums and [Hamilton’s] bass that somehow go backward and forward at the same time.”
Beyond the critical acclaim TOYS IN THE ATTIC generated, musicians have honored the work–which reached #11 on the Billboard album charts–by covering a variety of the album’s tracks. Most notably, “Walk This Way,” a 1986 Billboard Top 4 single collaboration with Run–D.M.C. and a pivotal song in the burgeoning rock-rap genre, featured TYLER (on co-lead vocals) and PERRY (guitar). The track went on to become an international hit and earned both groups a Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap-Single (1987). In 1999, AEROSMITH and Run–D.M.C. teamed up again to perform the song, this time with Kid Rock at the MTV Video Music Awards. A few years later, AEROSMITH again performed the song–accompanied by NSYNC, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly–to an international viewing audience as part of the Super Bowl XXXV halftime show (January 2001). Additional accolades for “Walk This Way” include inclusions in: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll; Rolling Stone ranked the original version of “Walk This Way” at #346 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, while the version with Run–D.M.C. is ranked at #293; “VH1: 100 Greatest Rock Songs” included “Walk This Way” at #35 (2000); Q magazine placed it at #23 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks (2005); Rolling Stone ranked the original version of “Walk This Way” at #34 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time (2008); VH1’s “100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs” included “Walk This Way” at #8 and VH1 ranked the version with Run–D.M.C. at #4 on VH1 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs (2009).
Other recorded covers from TOYS IN THE ATTIC include R.E.M.’s 1986 version of “Toys in the Attic,” a B-side to “Fall on Me”; the track also appears on the band’s Dead Letter Office, as well as the 1993 reissue of Life’s Rich Pageant; The String Cheese Incident’s take on “Walk This Way” appears on the jam/bluegrass band’s 1997 self-titled live album A String Cheese Incident; and Boston ska band The Mighty Mighty Bosstones included “Sweet Emotion” on their EP Where’d You Go? Other cover versions include Leo Kottke and Mike Gordon, The Answer, Warrant and Ratt on “Sweet Emotion”; Velvet Revolver on “No More No More”; and Sum 41 along with rappers Ja Rule and Nelly on “Walk This Way.”
Up next for AEROSMITH, beginning June 13, the band will return to the road with their “Blue Army Tour 2015.” The trek will take the band’s all original members–Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton, and Brad Whitford–to 15 cities before concluding in Grand Rapids, MI on Tuesday, August 4.

Longtime Aerosmith fan here so when the opportunity arose to go see my favourite band for the second time I jumped at it. Granted after a few delays arrangements were made and I was on my way to see the bad boys of Boston once again. I was equally psyched to see Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators as I have never seen them live before AND The Conspirators featured a couple of fellow Canadians. I have seen drummer Brent Fitz play before and he is fantastic. I have never seen Todd “Dammit” Kerns live before and I have been listening to his music since “Ugly” by his old band Age Of Electric was a staple on Much Music. Seeing him play was a big part in the excitement of this trip.
The world heard a new version of the AEROSMITH classic “Dream On” during the Spring 2014 premiere of ESPN’s award-winning news magazine show, E:60. Recorded in Los Angeles in early April, the song features Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, who are joined by the Southern California Children’s Chorus on this arrangement of “Dream On (Boston Strong 2014).” The track will be released today as a single via iTunes. In a powerful moment at last night’s AEROSMITH concert at The Forum, in Inglewood, CA the band surprised the audience by bringing the Southern California Children’s Chorus on stage to perform this special rendition of “Dream On (Boston Strong 2014).”
“The tragedy that took place during the Boston Marathon was unfathomable, but Boston is incredibly resilient and became even stronger. I am so honored to release this version of “Dream On” and to be able to have had the Southern California Children’s Chorus perform with us last night was a beautiful moment, a true gift from up above,” says Steven Tyler.
“The heinous act that took place during the Boston Marathon which shook not only the city but the world and touched us all demanded a positive response,” Joe Perry said. “Boston Strong was that response and gave an example of our city’s inner strength. I would like to think that the strength of our performance on ‘Dream On’ last night with the Southern California Children’s Chorus in LA at the Forum was another rallying point for the goodness in all of us.”
“Dream On (Boston Strong 2014)” debuted Tuesday, April 15 on “E:60 Presents Dream On: Stories from Boston’s Strongest,” a special hour dedicated to the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings. The show presented five stories of survivors, narrated by celebrity voices of Boston At 2:49 PM, on April 15, 2013, as scores of spectators cheered on the Boston Marathon runners approaching the finish line, two hand-made bombs exploded. In a split second, the lives of hundreds of people were forever changed. E:60 presented a special program remembering the lives lost and paying tribute to those who survived, their journeys of perseverance, courage, strength and love in the past twelve months.
In July, AEROSMITH embarked on this summer’s definitive rock experience, the LET ROCK RULE tour across North America with Slash. SWEDENROCK FESTIVAL 2010
MARKO SYRJÄLÄ, ARTO LEHTINEN, PATRICK CLEMENT
Jävlä Swedenrock, här kommer vi igen. The annual roadtrip to Swedenrock by the Finnish Metal‑Rules.Com team is already the tenth time in a row. The 2010 line‑up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock. Therefore, over 70 bands offered nothing but an utter blast and a helluv an experience for the attendees to enjoy metal and rock. Swedenrock has been successful during the past ten years as the festival has always been sold out. This year wasn’t any exception as the fest was sold out despite the lousy economomic situation worldwide. As mentioned in the first sentence, this is the tenth time in a row when Sweden Rock has been featured on Metal‑Rules.com, so it is quite logical for us to give a real in‑depth article of several bands performing at Sweden Rock. The weather wasn’t ideal compared to previous years. It either rained or was windy with a little sunshine. But we were there for bands, not for having some beach party. We are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Enjoy or die !!!
