BEHEMOTH finishes video for “Lucifer”; photos available online

August 8th, 2011
by EvilG

Behemoth and Grupa 13’s latest creative vision will be for the song, Lucifer. The song is the final track on Evangelion and clocks in at over eight minutes long and is one of the most atmospheric and foreboding songs in Behemoth’s vast catalogue. The video was shot in Wroclaw, Poland and stars the song’s guest vocalist, Maciej Malenczuk. The video is currently being edited and will see a worldwide premiere in September. Behemoth set the bar high with their last video, which was also a Grupa 13 collaboration, Alas, Lord is Upon Me.

Behemoth front man, Nergal, comments: “We have teamed up with Grupa 13 again to shoot this amazing video…I must honestly say it was very refreshing cooperation. Darek is probably one of the most creative people I’ve met in this business and I love working with him. Every time we force ourselves to come up with even crazier ideas…This time we really made it very artistic and… still VERY disturbing. There’s plenty of metaphors and symbolism in this video…the story is even more diverse, fucked up and out of control. I’m still digesting it… the video is being edited as we write these words…Stay tuned!”

Grupa 13’s Dariusz Szermanowicz adds, “‘Lucifer’ is a song that completes the visual concept of the “Evangelion” album. The evolution of the script was long and stormy, but in the end it surprised us with lots of last minute changes and new energy in the ideas! This time we’ve shot it in a studio environment, with minimum set design. We’ve prepared over a dozen episodes and strong scenes filled with emotions. There’s still more than a month of editing and post-production ahead of us. We wouldn’t like to disclose the plot now; I can only say that this clip will be different from the previous ones. However, some elements, symbols and atmosphere continue the stories which have been told in the previous music videos.”

More photos from the video shoot have been made available online and can be seen HERE.

New Jersey progressive metallers The Binary Code have posted a brand new pre-production track called “Dark Meditations” on their Facebook page. Two other pre-production tracks, “Unexist” and “Trees 100 Feet Underwater,” were posted by the band earlier this summer. All three tracks come from an as-of-yet untitled album tentatively set to be recorded later this year and released in early 2012, and have been uploaded by the band to give fans an early taste of what’s in store.
The full-length album will be their first since 2009’s Suspension of Disbelief, with the Priest EP being released in the summer of 2010.

Edguy - "Age Of The Joker"

Edguy - "Age Of The Joker"

The hilarious new video by EDGUY for the song “Robin Hood” is available for viewing here.  The track comes off their forthcoming album Age Of The Joker, set for release in Europe on August 26th and in North America on September 13th.

EDGUY members and video director Oliver Sommer (Avantasia, Helloween) satirized Errol Flynn’s classic Hollywood film “The Adventures Of Robin Hood” and features bows & arrows, sword fighting, electric guitars and Marshall amps!  German television actor & comedian Bernhard Hoecker stars as Friar Tuck and Maid Marian.

About the video shoot, EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet has previously stated:

“When you decide to do things like that, of course you have to be aware that you will most likely make a fool out of yourself.  We had to wear tights and looked a bit like four idiots and one transvestite. But we have come to a point we don’t care so much anymore. The shooting was one of the funniest days in our career, and that means something. It was hard work: the rain, the mud, soaking wet tights, angry horses, a carriage, a lot of travesty, sword fighting, and hurting smile muscles. You gotta check it out!”

The video version of the song “Robin Hood”was cut down to five minutes, but the album version has a running time of more than eight minutes.  Buy the MP3 single (available on August 9th) on!

EDGUY fans can pre-order the Age Of The Joker album on the band’s Facebook page.

Members of the Hellfire Club at will have the opportunity to view new promotional band photos and listen to a worldwide exclusive of excerpts from seven new songs off Age Of The Joker.  If you’re not already a member, register here with a valid e-mail address.

Scandinavian Nights, In Concert 1970-1972, Live in London and MK III: The Final Concerts

Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the August 16 release of four double-discs of the deepest of Deep Purple’s onstage action:  Scandinavian Nights, In Concert 1970-1972, Live In London and MK III: The Final Concerts. [MSRP $13.98]
Scandinavian Nights, from 1970, features the most classic of Purple lineups, lead guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, vocalist Ian Gillan, drummer Ian Paice and bassist Roger Glover. Recorded for Swedish radio while on tour in support of their groundbreaking In Rock album, the band, a well-oiled machine of epic proportions, rips through elongated versions of “Speed King,” “Into The Fire,” “Child In Time,” “Wring That Neck,” a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black” (as a Paice drum solo), “Mandrake Root” and “Black Night.”
The same lineup In Concert 1970-1972 recorded two shows for the BBC. The 1970 gig is four songs stretched out to almost 50 minutes in true DP style like no other band ever — “Speed King,” “Child In Time,”  “Wring That Neck” and “Mandrake Root.” In the ’72 concert, they performed every song off their classic Machinehead album (except “Pictures Of Home”) including a 21-minute version of “Space Truckin’.
This is the first time Live In London has been released in the United States on CD. Complete with new frontman David Coverdale and new bassist Glenn Hughes (essentially giving the band two lead singers), the band were back home in London in 1974 performing in support of the Burn album. The band, indeed, burned through the title track, “Might Just Take Your Life,” “Lay Down Stay Down,” “Mistreated,” “Smoke On The Water” and, on Disc #2, “You Fool No One” and “Space Truckin’.”

A year later, with no idea its lead guitarist and co-founding member Ritchie Blackmore had already decided to leave the band, Deep Purple, with Coverdale and Hughes now solidly entrenched and performing magnificently, embarked on a European tour in support of StormbringerMK III The Final Concerts excitingly documents Blackmore’s swan song with the band on “Burn,” “Stormbringer,” “Gypsy,” “Lady Double Dealer,” “Mistreated,” “Smoke On The Water,” “You Fool No One,” “Space Truckin’,” “Going Down/Highway Star,” and alternate versions of “Mistreated” and “You Fool No One.”

Rose Funeral: album title, artwork, and first single now live

August 6th, 2011
by EvilG

New album “Gates of Punishment” out in North America Sept 27

Rose Funeral have launched the first track from their forthcoming album, Gates of Punishment. Beyond the Entombed can be heard now at The album can also be pre-ordered at iTunes. The physical pre-order with an exclusive t-shirt will be available shortly.

Gates of Punishment is a fitting progression of the band’s dark and foreboding sound. Guest vocal appearances from Kate Alexander and Steve Tucker (Morbid Angel) add to the dark atmosphere that is created throughout the album. Seven string guitars tuned to drop A, haunting melodies, insane blasts and enough groove to keep heads banging will make this one of the heaviest releases of 2011.

Vocalist/guitarist Ryan Gardner adds, “We had the greatest time recording Gates of Punishment. It is definitely a HUGE step for Rose Funeral. I can honestly say this album just crushes any release we have done. We are looking to turn heads and drop jaws with this album. Gates of Punishment is filled with intense blasts, fast paced solos, melodic harmonies, dark chords, pissed off vocals, and harsh breakdowns. This is the sound i have been searching for with Rose Funeral, and I couldn’t be happier. All I can say is that with the guys I have, it will be a huge climb in sound every album from now on.”

Gates of Punishment track listing:
1. Legions of Ruination
2. Grotesque Mutilation
3. Beyond the Entombed
4. False Divine (feat. Steve Tucker)
5. Arise Infernal Existence
6. Malignant Amour (feat. Kate Alexander)
7. A Recreant Canticle
8. The Desolate Form
9. Entercism
10. Amidst Gehenna
11. Gates of Punishment

Boston MA area traditional heavy metal / thrashers RAVAGE have announced that drummer Dan “The Hammer” Kowal has been injured on a recent camping trip. Singer Al Ravage states “I have some unfortunate news to relay to you all. Our drummer Dan was apparently camping in Maine this past weekend and while attempting to chop some fire wood with a hatchet, he accidentally permanently committed a significant portion of his thumb to the wilderness of the Pine Tree State. Dan assures us that he is OK, but that he will not be able to play drums for at least a few weeks while he recovers. A fill-in player will be used for upcoming shows.” In addition to drumming for Ravage, Dan is also drummer for the thrash metal band SKULLHAMMER and bassist for the thrash metal band LICH KING.

Ravage most recently released the full-length album “The End Of Tomorrow” on Metal Blade Records in 2009 and have been recently working on new material while playing select local shows. The band will appear at Champions Bar in Everett MA on Friday August 5th.

One of the leading bands of the ‘New Wave of British Heavy Metal’ movement, Saxon, is about to hit the U.S. shores hard once more. On September 27th, Saxon will release their 19th studio album overall, ‘Call to Arms’ (via UDR Music/EMI), and starting the following day, will launch a Stateside tour.

And as evidenced by such ass-kickers as “Hammer of the Gods” and “Call to Arms,” the group hasn’t lost their grip on composing hard-hitting yet anthemic heavy metal with their latest offering.

Comprised of members Biff Byford (vocals), Doug Scarratt (guitar), Paul Quinn (guitar), Nibbs Carter (bass), Nigel Glockler (drums), Saxon is responsible for penning some of the 1980’s most enduring metal anthems, including “Wheels of Steel,” “Strong Arm of the Law,” “Motorcycle Man,” “Princess of the Night,” and “Never Surrender,” and along with the likes of Iron Maiden and Def Leppard, helped breath life back into a metal scene that many had left for dead at the time.

It’s been 35 years since Saxon was originally up and running, and the group can still easily hold their own with the headbanging competition.
“It’s important to keep one foot in the past and one foot very much in the present,” says Byford. “At some points in your life, whether you’re younger or older, you do have these wonderful periods of ‘state of graceness’ where everyone likes everything you write. But you can’t keep being your own tribute band, you have to try and write great new songs, and you have to try to appeal to a younger audience. Saxon has been successfully doing that for the last decade, and the result is we still have our old fan base but we also have a whole new, younger one too.”

Saxon’s latest video clip, for the song “Call to Arms,” will be premiered this Friday, August 5th at noon EST on America Online Noisecreep.
And hardcore Saxon fans will surely be interested in tracking down the “Digipack” version of ‘Call to Arms,’ as it includes a glorious bonus – a free seven-track CD, ‘Live at Donington 1980.’

Soon, U.S. fans will be able to recapture “The Power and the Glory” of Saxon all over again – with the release of ‘Call to Arms,’ and on a concert stage near you.
