KYUSS LIVES!/Ex-QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Bassist Charged With Four Felonies

August 13th, 2011
by EvilG

According to, former QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE/KYUSS and current KYUSS LIVES! bassist Nick Oliveri has been charged with four felonies and faces up to 15 years in prison stemming from his arrest last month in Hollywood after a five-hour standoff with police.

Nick Oliveri was booked on July 12 on felony domestic violence. The police was called to the scene by Oliveri’s neighbor who reported a “disturbance” between the 39-year-old rocker and his girlfriend. A standoff between a SWAT team and Nick ensued before Oliveri finally agreed to let his girlfriend exit the duplex.

Oliveri was taken into custody about 10:30 p.m. after Los Angeles police officers knocked down his front door.

Nick’s girlfriend reportedly told police Oliveri hit her during an argument the day before and she had returned to collect her stuff so she could move out.

During a search of Nick’s home on Hobart Boulevard, cops reportedly found a fully loaded high-powered rifle, cocaine and methamphetamines..

Oliveri is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one misdemeanor count of resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.

If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Oliveri was forced to miss several KYUSS LIVES! shows in Europe earlier this month due to his legal troubles. His temporary replacement was Scott Reeder (GOATSNAKE, THE OBSESSED, KYUSS).

We are excited as much as everyone who follows us over the years, and now we are happy to show you the names of our new songs! I can reveal that MOTION is not a conceptual album. Every song tells its own story, but at the same time all of them have something related to movements, changes and evolution. No fantastic themes, no fairytales, no parallel meanings, no hidden stories, everything is real and direct. This time, we want to talk about the people’s real life! REALITY! I promise that you will get many news and surprises from ALMAH during the next weeks. Stay tuned, my dear friends! See ya soon!”

ALMAH is: Edu Falaschi – vocals, Felipe Andreoli – bass, Marcelo Barbosa – guitars, Paulo Schroeber – guitars, Marcelo Moreira – drums. The band was established by Angra’s singer Edu Falaschi in 2006 and released two albums: “Almah” (2007) and “Fragile Equality” (2008). ALMAH played at Forcaos and Armazed do Som festivals at the Northeast of Brazil – headlining shows and series of supporting events such as singing sessions, a pocket show and workshops. August 12th, 2011
by EvilG

August 11, 2011 – Orange County heavy metal Triple Axe Attack, LEATHERWOLF, have announced a free show on September 2 at the Slide Bar in Fullerton, CA.

This will be the band’s first live appearance in over a year and marks the live debut of new guitarist Rob Math who takes over for Greg Erba. He joins original members Michael Olivieri (vocals, guitar), Carey Howe (guitar), and Dean Roberts (drums) along with bassist Patrick Guyton.

LEATHERWOLF are currently putting the finishing touches on their ‘Live at the Galaxy’ DVD which was filmed during the band’s 2009 performance at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, CA. A sneak preview of the song ‘Thunder’ has been posted on the band’s YouTube Channel:

In related news, the members of LEATHERWOLF would like to express their condolences to the family and friends of vocalist Chris Adams who passed away last month. Adams joined LEATHERWOLF in 2001 and recorded one demo with the band before partying ways again. Stated drummer Dean Roberts: “Hearing of Chris’ passing comes as a shock to us. Even though he was only part of Leatherwolf for a short time and we lost touch over the years, he helped us develop embroynic versions of a couple of songs, including ‘King of the Ward’, which later ended up on the ‘World Asylum’ album. Rest in peace, brother.”

Former WARRANT Vocalist JANI LANE Found Dead

August 12th, 2011
by EvilG
Jani Lane

Jani Lane

TMZ is reporting that former WARRANT vocalist JANI LANE was found dead at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, CA earlier this evening (August 11th). Thus far, no official cause of death has been released.

Lane was 47 years old.

Jani Lane was born February 1st, 1964 in Akron, Ohio. He went on to sing on seven Warrant studio albums:

Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich
Cherry Pie
Dog Eat Dog
Belly To Belly
Greatest & Latest
Under The Influence

After leaving Warrant, Lane issued a solo album, Back Down To One. That was followed by a brief stint with SAINTS OF THE UNDERGROUND, who only released one album – Love The Sin, Hate The Sinner.

On July 23, Lane took part in a taping of an upcoming episode of the “That Metal Show” alongside Michael Sweet (STRYPER) and Taime Downe (FASTER PUSSYCAT) (see photos below). The program featuring Lane is scheduled to air on October 1 on VH1 Classic.

In February, Lane (born John Kennedy Oswald on February 1, 1964) canceled all of his previously announced solo tour dates two days before the first show was due to take place. No explanation was offered for the cancellation.

RIP Jani Lane

RIP Jani Lane

WARRANT announced in September 2008 that it was splitting with Lane six months after the band reunited with the troubled vocalist. He has since been replaced by Robert Mason (LYNCH MOB, CRY OF LOVE, BIG COCK).

Lane originally left WARRANT in March 1993 but rejoined the band in September 1994. The group went on to record the “Ultraphobic” (1995), “Belly To Belly” (1996) and “Greatest & Latest” (1999) albums and issued and collection of covers, “Under The Influence”, in 2001. Jani quit WARRANT again in 2004 before reuniting with the group four years later.

Lane released a solo album, “Back Down to One”, in 2003, but shortly after was admitted to a rehab center for alcohol and drug-related exhaustion. He also appeared on VH1’s reality series “Celebrity Fit Club”.

On July 19, 2010, Lane pled no contest to DUI stemming from his arrest two months earlier — and was ordered to serve 120 days in jail. In addition, Lane lost his license for three years and had to complete a 30-month alcohol-education program.

Prior to serving time in jail for his most recent legal troubles, Lane issued a statement in which he said, in part, “My true hope is that anyone out there dealing with personal problems… the consequences do not get lighter. I can only say I’ve never regretted a good decision or action and never been proud of bad ones. People have an astounding ability to forgive… I have to start with forgiving myself. That is something that I find far more difficult than I imagined. I think it starts with gratitude.”

In a June 2010 interview, Lane spoke about his battle with alcoholism and the negative impact it has had on his career.

“The last year, I’ve suffered some consequences from drinking that I’ve never suffered in my entire life,” he said. “It’s really made me take a step back and go, ‘Is this how you want to continue? Is this how you want to finish up?’ The answer is no.”

He continued, “I’ll tell you, one day you think that this is absolutely normal, this is expected, ‘This has been my lifestyle for 20 years, what’s the problem?’ And, all of a sudden, things take a turn, and you go, ‘I don’t like these consequences. I don’t like how this affects my family, I don’t like how this affects my career, I don’t like how this affects anything.’ Then you begin to work.”

When asked if his treatment involved going to a rehab, Lane replied, “I have gone to rehabilitation, absolutely. I know some people who want to be quiet about that kind of stuff, but I am not the kind of person who pride is going to win out over saying, ‘Hey, I’m honestly getting this in check and fixing this.’ It is a very important thing to me. I mean, this just doesn’t affect me like it used to. It affects everything in my life, including the people I love. To be honest, I get tired of giving ammo to the people who don’t wish me well.”

Musician/music industry tributes:

Nikki Sixx (MÖTLEY CRÜESIXX: A.M.): “I just heard the sad news aboutJani Lane. So hard to swallow when people have kids. RIP.”

His passing has shocked and saddened me to the point of tears. A great person whose talent was far greater than most people will ever know. I produced a number of songs for his solo project in the late ’90s. My connection with Jani as artist and producer was textbook perfect. Upon completion of those sessions, we both said it was a mind-blowing experience to work together and we would do it again, [and] we did. The world will truly miss Jani Lane. I’m so lucky to have been a small part of his life. RIP Jani. I’m numb!!”

TRIXTER: “Thoughts and prayers for Jani Lane‘s family and friends. Jani will be missed. Heaven isn’t too far away…”

Stephen Pearcy (RATT): “Sad to hear today. R.I.P. Jani Lane.”

Lzzy Hale (HALESTORM): “RIP Jani Lane…. You will be survived by the music you gave us! Rock dem Angels!”

Robb Rivera (NONPOINT): “Sorry to hear about Jani Lane passing away, always sad to see people in your industry go like that. I did not know him personally but i know the significance and influence WARRANT had on the music community. Rest in peace Jani…”

Kelly Hansen (FOREIGNER): “So very sad about the passing of Jani Lane. We came up at the same time. I’ll remember his voice. My heart goes out to his family & fans.”

SHAI HULUD: “Rest In peace, Jani Lane. Seems like he had quite a struggle for many years. Truly an unfortunate way to live, consequently dying far too young. It’s safe to say we Huluds weren’t necessarily WARRANT fans, but we respect Jani‘s talents, and his honesty about his pursuit of sobriety. Our condolences to his family, friends, and fans.”

DJ Ashba (GUNS N’ ROSESSIXX: A.M.): “It’s sad that sometimes it takes someone you know to lose their life to put yours into perspective, It’s funny how life is so easily taken for granted sometimes. I think back to all the petty things in my life that I spent hours if not days stressing over, just to look back and realize how it was merely a waste of time and never really mattered in the big picture. Life is so short, so live! Live every day as if it’s your last. No regrets.”

Interview with Warchild of Eliminator

Conducted by Robert Williams

Eliminator has already garnered a modest amount of attention for themselves within underground metal circles, due in no small part to the band’s strong work ethic and drive showcased on their debut offering "Breaking The Wheel" an album falling somwhere between technical breakneck thrash and classic speed metal. Eliminator re-emerged earlier this year touting two full length albums of all new material coming in the form of "The One They Were Waiting For" and the aptly named "And The Brokenhearted Balladeers". On the band’s latest material, the Jersey based duo of guitarist and vocalist Warchild and drummer Samus embark on a much different journey than that of their debut, incorporating a wide range of far reaching musical influences outside of the metal spectrum, culminating in the band’s most experimental and bold vision to date. Warchild recently took the time to chat with and give us the lowdown on Eliminator’s new material…

While they have a break from the road, TESSERACT have decided to begin work on a new music video for the track, “Eden”, which appears on the band’s debut album, “One”. In association with Escape Plan Productions (, “Eden” will feature the artistic vision of Director Ganesh Rao (EMPYREAN, and Director of Photography Jonny Greenwald. In regards to their new music video, bassist Amos Williams comments:

“We like to keep a close eye on what’s happening in the underground and the scene from which we were born. One day a jaw-dropping, stunning video appears on I mean beautiful, cinematic, and emotive. Ganesh Rao created not only a great example of ‘djent’ with his entirely self created EMPYREAN project, but as director of the video, made something that has truly risen the bar for independent creators. Now, as it happened we were looking for a director to work with us for our upcoming video for ‘Eden’, so it was a no-brainer to approach Ganesh to try and make it happen. We’re very excited to see what we can create together. The hope is that it’s a piece of art, not a bullshit piece of marketing that does nothing but to self serve and ego boost the band. A lasting composition that can be enjoyed both visually and aurally. It won’t be MTV, but like all things TESSERACT, it should be intense, emotive, and enthralling.”

Behind-the-scenes photos from the video shoot will be available soon, so stay tuned for a preview of “Eden”!

Scottish death metal act CEREBRAL BORE have had an incredible year so far, signing a worldwide recording deal with Earache Records, releasing their debut album, and completing a successful US tour.

Now, CEREBRAL BORE are gearing up for their first ever appearance at the UK’s favourite metal festival, Bloodstock Open Air.  The band will be performing this Friday, 12th August at 2pm on the Sophie Lancaster Stage in front of a home crowd of rowdy metalheads.

CEREBRAL BORE guitarist PAUL MCGUIRE comments:

“We have played a whole bunch of open air festivals in Europe, but never in the UK, so this is sure to be pretty surreal for us!  Especially with bands like Motorhead and Morbid Angel on the bill.  Pretty much everyone I know in Scotland who listens to metal is going, so hopefully we will have a good crowd and tons of bodies battering each other!  But most of all, it will be great to play to such a big home crowd; with a bit of luck it will be something we get to do more often in the UK.”

“All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks” Profiled by, Producer Defends Album Title

August 11th, 2011
by EvilG

WHOLE LOTTA LOVE: An All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks

WHOLE LOTTA LOVE: An All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks has issued a new interview with SplitScreen Entertainment founder A.J. Confessore, executive producer of the recent tribute album “WHOLE LOTTA LOVE: An All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks.” Conducted by arts and entertainment journalist Justin Tedaldi, the interview reveals the origins of this unlikely musical effort, which features members of such bands as Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Cinderella, Danger Danger and L.A. Guns performing well-known songs praising the fuller female form. The article also tackles the subject of the controversial album title and the challenges it has created for the project. A few excerpts from the interview follow.

NOTE: “WHOLE LOTTA LOVE” now has an official Facebook presence and recently premiered its first video montage on YouTube.

Where does your appreciation for big women come from?

A.J. Confessore: Big gals are the sexiest women on the planet. Everything thin women have, they have in abundance. Everything round and soft is enhanced, amplified and made that much more appealing. They’re women and then some. To put it in rock and roll terms, these girls go to 11. Put me in front of a gal with extra girlie curves and I lose my ability to think clearly. They really do have a lot to love.
What were your main duties as the producer of “WHOLE LOTTA LOVE?”

A.J. Confessore: I did almost everything except for recording the songs, and I had my hands in that process, too! I don’t even remember half the stuff I did. The past 30 months of my life are just a blur. When you have a dream project like this, you do whatever it takes to make it happen because you believe in it so much. These girls deserve a tribute like this and I wanted to give it to them. Thankfully, I had enough connections with rockers I admired to flesh out the roster with a bunch of impressive name talent. I actually came up with the “All-Star Salute to Fat Chicks” title first, because I thought it was funny. Then I realized I’d need to actually find people to fit the bill! Lots of them!
Was it as much fun recording this album as it sounds?

A.J. Confessore: Absolutely not! It was by far, the most work I have ever done in my entire life. Seriously, you have no idea. Literally thousands of hours, most of it under serious deadline constraints and scheduling issues! It was one of those experiences where you had to keep your eyes on the prize to keep yourself inspired, because the work itself was simply overwhelming.

That said, I was not involved in the recording of every song. I had my associate producer Paul LaPlaca recording five tracks, but beyond working with him, many of the artists recorded on their own and got me the tracks once they were finished. That’s how Eddie Ojeda, Steve Brown, Jeff LaBar, Evick and many of the others did it.

Paul would take individual tracks sent in from the various performers and mix them into his delicious soup. A guitar track from Alex Grossi, a drum track from Frankie Banali, a vocal from Celisa Stratton and bass and percussion from Paul himself. Five months later… magic!

We had to pick the right balance of songs, too. None could be insulting or demeaning. Though the title would be tongue-in-cheek, the tribute needed to be sincere and complimentary.
More than a hundred songs were originally considered for the album. Which ones came close to making the final cut, and which ones were totally unfit from the start?

A.J. Confessore: There are literally hundreds of songs about fat women, ranging from novelty songs to big band to rap to country. For this album, I needed a group of songs that worked well together and that people already knew and loved. That made many of the choices easy and obvious. “Fat Bottomed Girls” had to be in there, since it’s the most beloved and most well-known big girl song. “Whole Lotta Rosie” had to be in there, since it has such a classic riff and a legendary metal status.

Even “Unskinny Bop” needed to be in there, since so many people think it’s about fat girls (even though it’s not). There are other songs that are also not quite on message, but either they sound like they’re about fat girls (“All Lips N’ Hips”) or they were altered just enough to fit the topic, while still being faithful to the originals (“Whole Lotta Love”). Also, a lot of people kept telling me to include “Fat Girl” by Steel Panther, and while it’s a funny song, it’s ultimately insulting so it wasn’t even an option. Anything that came across as less than flattering to the subject matter was not even considered. Even songs like “Whole Lotta Rosie” and “Thunder Thighs,” while not glowing praise, fit the bill since they were in fact complimentary of big women, even if the sentiments were delivered in traditional rock and roll sarcasm and sleaze.

As for what almost made the cut… I don’t think there were any. I really think I got everything I wanted. I almost lost out on “Big, Fat, Sexy Mama” since the original artist had reservations about his recording appearing on the album, so I finally had to resort to having the song covered. It’s a great song by an up-and-coming New York City band called The Compulsions, and I really wanted to give them a chance to appear on this album with the other name players, but they respectfully declined. That said, the version handed in by newcomer Triangle Exception exceeded my expectations and I’m so glad I got to include the song on the album. Unlike many of the others, this track was just such an unabashed rave of loving a bigger woman, it would have been a crime not to include it.
What other surprises have you had since the album’s release?

A.J. Confessore: I’ve learned that even within the size-acceptance community, there is not a lot of agreement as to whether the word “fat” is politically correct. Some factions embrace it; others won’t even let you attend their events if they think you might utter it aloud. Despite the fact that at certain big girl events you’ll hear the term “fat chick” thrown around more than the N-word at a rap concert, certain influential elements within the plus community wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole. Those folks always like to use polite euphemisms like “curvy women” or “real women.” They’re so afraid of the word “fat,” it’s ridiculous.

Despite the fact that I stand by my choice of album title for many reasons, I know that it’s cost me more than a few opportunities. I’m comfortable with it, but I know not everyone else is. “Fat” has so often been used as a negative in our culture that it’s very hard for many people to ever get past that and embrace it as a positive, or even regard it as a neutral adjective like “red” or “fuzzy.”

Anyway, I was just surprised by the amount of resistance I encountered to the title by some factions, despite the positive sentiment of the project and the gorgeous cover art.
Thanks for your time! Any final comments?

A.J. Confessore: There’s a whole lotta love in the world and it comes in all different shapes and sizes. It’s all beautiful and it’s all good.
