Nevermore – Drummer Van Williams

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

Van Williams: Drummer for Nevermore
Interviewed in October 2000 by EvilG

This interview was originally supposed to be with Nevermore’s vocalist, Warrel Dane. As such, much of my questions were designed specifically for him. When the call came through it was Van William’s on the phone…Warrel couldn’t make it. No problem, but the only challenge that left me with was having to drop a bunch of questions and make up new ones on the fly. Hopefully the interview is not too disjointed as a result. In any case, talking with Van was way cool and he was able to excellently answer all my questions even though he said to me he wasn’t “Mr. Johnny Interview” haha.

In Flames – Conquering The World:
Interview with speak to Peter Iwers

Interviewed by Keith McDonald

Formed in 1990 in Sweden by founding guitarist Jesper Stromblad, In Flames has developed from an underground band into an ever-growing metal force with the 2000 release of Clayman. Having a somewhat revolving door of members has helped them develop their unique style and sound. Spawning the hits Bullet Ride, Pinball Map and Square Nothing, it has become their most successful offering yet as they continue their nonstop tour around the world. I had the chance to speak to Peter Iwers who filled me in on what the band’s been up to.

Glen Alvelais – ex-Forbidden, ex-Testament, LD/50

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

Interview with Glen Alvelais (ex-Forbidden, ex-Testament, currently in LD/50)

Interviewed in Sept. 2000 by EvilG

Forbidden’s first two studio albums – Forbidden Evil and Twisted Into Form REALLY do something for me. Forbidden have to be one of the more under-rated of the bay area thrash bands to have existed. Critics seem to leave Forbidden out of things and concentrate on other bands when referring to the bay area thrash scene. If you ask me, I think that Forbidden are simply amazing! One of the guitarists, who was a part of Forbidden for their first album and their live EP – Raw Evil Live At The Dynamo is Glen Alvelais. I was thrilled to get he opportunity to pose the following questions to him.

Pekka Kiviaho, guitarist for Persuader

Interviewed by EvilG in Sept. 2000

Pekka Kiviaho - Persuader guitarist

If you checked out the CD reviews for August 2000, you’ll know that I was VERY impressed with Persuader. So much so, that I hunted down guitarist Pekka and got the scoop on the band. If there is one new up and coming band from Sweden to keep your eyes on then this is THE band. Fans of heavy power metal will not regret checking this band out!

The Crown – Marco Tervonen

Marco Tervonen of The Crown
Interview with THE CROWN
Interviewed By Waspman:
At The Reverb in Toronto, August 10th 2000

When the whirlwind that is the Cannibal Corpse / Nile / Krisiun / The Crown tour whipped through Toronto a few weeks ago, I had the honor of meeting one of the best guitarists and song writers in the death metal scene today: Marko Tervonen from The Crown. With all of the killer riffs that come from his guitar, you’d think that Marko would be a gruff kinda guy. In reality, he’s a very funny and fun to talk to. The following is a conversation that we had just before his band stormed the stage and killed about 800 Toronto fans.

IRON MAIDEN’s Steve Harris (Classic interview)

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

Classic Interview with IRON MAIDEN’s Steve Harris
July 1982, Alpine Valley Resort, Wisconsin

Steve Harris picture from 1982Interviewed by Gueniviere in 1982!

This article/interview, written when Iron Maiden were the support band on the Scorpions’ “Blackout” Tour, first appeared in the August/1982, edition of NIGHT ROCK NEWS, a now-defunct Chicago music paper.

The following is a transcription of the article I wrote from the first interview I did with Steve Harris back in July of ’82. It’s so funny to view some of the comments in hindsight! Remember, at the time, not all that much was known about Iron Maiden in the US yet, and there was no internet to access the info. You basically had to rely on anything else that was written that you could find, and at the time there wasn’t much around in the US. But then, it made me ask questions I might not have asked otherwise!

Rhapsody – Luca Turilli

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

Rhapsody’s Luca Turilli
Interviewed by EvilG in August 2000

Rhapsody are one of the newer bands that have come along in the last couple of years that have really impressed me. From their lyrics that tell the saga of the Emerald Sword to their unique blend of power/speed metal with classical music this band is not for the casual listener. Band pillar, Luca Turilli also fronts his own solo band which is as impressive as his full-time band. I waited for the opportunity to interview Luca for months. For a while he was on the road with Rhapsody, playing on the same bill as Stratovarius and Sonata Artcia. In the final stages of recording the new Rhapsody CD Dawn of Victory, Luca took the time out of his schedule to call me just days before Rhapsody were to take to the stage at this year’s Wacken Open Air festival.

Cannibal Corpse – George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher of Cannibal Corpse

Interviewed at The Reverb in Toronto,
August 10th 2000 by Waspman.

Interviewing a band is never an easy experience, let alone when the interviewee is one of the most brutal voices in metal, George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. You’d think that the tortured voice of Cannibal Corpse would be an imposing presence, but as he proved during the course of the interview, Corpsegrinder is just a metal fan himself, who doesn’t see much of a gap between himself and his fans. Speaking to Corpsegrinder shortly before Cannibal Corpse’s killer set in Toronto, I had the chance to chat with him about numerous subjects, including the forthcoming live album, fantasy tours, and Six Feet Under.
