Christofer Johnsson, the creative mastermind behind Sweden’s genre-defying THERION, has issued the following statement about session/touring vocalist Snowy Shaw:

“We are very happy to announce that Snowy has rejoined THERION. We welcomed him back with open arms, and we will now be making a mix between the new show we had planned and the last one which involved Snowy. We think the merger between the two concepts will be incredible, and we look forward to taking the band’s live performance to the next level.”

Religious community against metal music festival in Lithuania

August 25th, 2010

Mayhem at Devilstone

Mayhem at Devilstone

Lithuanian metal music festival Devilstone Open Air 2010, which has taken place in a little town of Anyksciai on July 16-18, has gained a serious criticism from the religious community. The Prosecution Service is pre-investigating, if the festival has not provoked religious disunion.

The festival has been highly acclaimed by its target fans and wider society, except for the part of religious community of the town. Recently a group of local Catholics and the Dean of the local church publicly expressed their opponent attitude towards the festival. They initiated a pre-trial investigation accusing the festival and / or the festival’s band MAYHEM of provoking religious disunion.

Local Catholics and the Dean declare their religious feelings have been insulted as they witnessed the photos of the band’s performance where the front-man wore something similar to cassock, had an inverted cross, bloody mask and a gallows loop.

The Dean applied to the Ministry of Justice which in turn forwarded the case back to the local Prosecution Service of Anyksciai. The pre-trial investigation is in the process and the organizers of the festival are scheduled to express their statement next week.

In the meanwhile such unprecedented case has been highlighted by Lithuanian media and is being hastily discussed by the society. The majority express their negative reaction to the initiators of the case, comparing the present situation with the middle ages. On the contrary, a part defends the Dean and the religious community, stating that the festival and its content are harmful for peoples’ moral.

The organizer of the festival, ALT events, justify the festival, the band and the festival’s nature, as the aim of it is not to provoke disunity among religious, national, racial, ethnic or any other groups of people. The organizer stands for the viewpoint that even the most extreme and radical shows on stage should be considered as art of performance; the freedom of artistic expression should not be restrained, was it black metal music or a piece of contemporary art.

It is expected that such unwanted confrontation between the festival and religious institution would not determine the end of festival’s existence. The relation with local authorities of the church has been complicated since the debut of the festival in 2009, when the Dean aimed to ban the festival for its title “Devilstone” and for its last year’s headliner SEPULTURA, which, according to the Dean, was a Satan band.

Devilstone Open Air occurred for the second time this year in Anyksciai, was headlined by Norwegians MAYHEM, Swedes GRAVE and Germans TANKARD, featured by 15 more bands from all over Europe, and held an audience of about 1500 people.

RATTLEHEAD Unleashes New Album; Post In-Depth Tour Report and Video

August 25th, 2010
by EvilG

It’s time to do the Toxic Waltz as Los Angeles thrash titans RATTLEHEAD unleashes a new modern day, speed metal trashterpiece, Tales From The Gutter. The self-financed, independently released disc is available now on iTunes at, so be sure to head over now to purchase. You can also check out the vicious new track, “Just Stay Down,” now on their MySpace page.

RATTLEHEAD has teamed up with Decibel Magazine to present an exclusive video documenting some touring antics and stellar performance from their hometown show at The Whisky in LA earlier this summer. Click on the link below to check it out now.

Nick Baranov (vocals, guitars) states: “Hey guys, we just got back from the road a few days ago, and one thing is for sure – this was one hell of a road trip! From the belligerent hundreds of people in cities like Boise, Chicago, and Worcester, to the never-ending bar tabs, house parties, and all sorts of trouble we’ve caused in the past 35 days. We hope everyone that came out to see us had as much fun as us, because we definitely won’t forget the ‘Thrashed and Detoured 2010 Tour’ (if we can even remember some parts, that is!).

“We hope everyone has been keeping in touch via our Rattlehead YouTube channel and our Tour Blog Updates, and if you haven’t – go check em out now! We tried to catch as much awesome footage as possible, but you can imagine how tough that might be, when you’re haulin ass on a DIY nationwide tour with sometimes as many as 10 shows in a row without rest. Nevertheless, we will keep compiling footage of us and our friends and fans on the road, in the many amazing cities and stops we hit this summer.

“Special thanks go out to our good friends HexeN, who joined us on this incredible journey! Also thanks to all the great promoters and booking agents who helped make this tour possible, all the local bands in the dozens of cities around the country who stick to their guns and thrash like maniacs. Thanks to local law enforcements for somehow letting us get away with the most ridiculous shit, as well as any liquor bottling or beer brewing company, for forcing us to do the most ridiculous shit. I guess in the end, it makes for a good story! Next time we’re in your neck of the woods – the drinks are on us.

“Stay tuned, as we get ready to get out on the road as soon as possible. Be sure to stay tuned to our MySpace, Facebook and Twitter for updates, and join the party! We shall see you soon.”

For this brand new, 10 track studio effort, RATTLEHEAD teamed up with renowned producer John Ugarte with assistant production help from their good friend Sam Totman of DragonForce (Roadrunner Records). The guitars are razor sharp and precise, but still manage to sound full within the mix. The crisp and clear drums with a thundering underlying bass line fill the atmosphere. They focused heavily on the vocal aspects of the album, experimenting with new techniques, ultimately ending up with what is by far their best vocal performance on record to date. As a final touch, the album features incredible solo guitar work by lead guitarist Francis Ausley, as well as a guest solo by Jeff Potts of Mantic Ritual (Nuclear Blast Records).

RATTLEHEAD are influenced by classic acts such as Testament, Slayer, Metallica and Exodus but focus more on adding unique, fresh aspects, more melodic passages and sing along choruses. This style will quickly set them clearly apart from the rest of today’s “new wave of thrash metal” and open up a wide array of audiences worldwide.

Diabolical Conquest Records sign blackened Death Metal band Preludium from Mielec, Poland.

August 25th, 2010
by EvilG

Diabolical Conquest founder Kunal N. Choksi comments, “Most death metal bands today either shamelessly rip-off old school bands or contribute to brutal redundancy. Having promoted Preludium on our webzine before and being aware of their style, I am pleased to be in a position to sign a band that does neither; Preludium play black metal-tinged fast, raw and vicious death metal with an imperial air. I believe this decade old band has great potential and I wish to give them the support and promotion that they deserve.”

Preludium guitarist and vocalist Łukasz Dziamarski adds, “We’re very proud of the fact that we joined Diabolical Conquest Records. Thanks to Diabolical Conquest’s broad experience in promoting bands around the world, we believe that our third album will reach a wider audience. We have great hopes for our partnership.”

Preludium’s third full length album is called ‘Impending Hostility‘ and will be released worldwide through Diabolical Conquest Records. More information about the album will be revealed soon.

Fans can listen to the track OSI and order a copy of the album now at

OSI (Office of Strategic Influence) is an American progressive experimental super-group formed by Fates Warning guitarist Jim Matheos back in 2003 and features the talents of Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, Dream Theater). The band’s name refers to the short-lived US government agency Office of Strategic Influence which was established shortly after 9/11 to manufacture and promote pro-US propaganda in domestic and foreign media. OSI inked a deal with Metal Blade Records back in May and is currently working on their fourth album and Metal Blade debut, which will be out in 2011. The band gained a strong underground following through the release of their 3 full-length records and an EP. Their 2009 album, Blood and includes guests Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth). Past participants include Mike Portnoy on the first two albums, Sean Malone and Steven Wilson on the debut, and Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning) on Free.

OSI’s music can’t easily be pigeonholed and is a completely different animal when compared to its founders’ other projects. The music is a combination of dark rock chorus’ with atmospheric, often industrial keys and is an eclectic mix of both Moore’s and Matheos’ influences.

The exclusive re-release of “Sore”, the second album by one of the most unique bands – Buzzoven

August 25th, 2010
by EvilG

Metal Mind Productions presents a re-release of “Sore”, the second album by one of the most unique and overlooked bands of the US underground – Buzzoven.

Buzzoven (also known as Buzzov•en) was a sludge metal band from North Carolina, formed in 1989 by the remaining members of Sewer Puppet. The band was known for being one of the founders of the sludge genre (right after Eyehategod), and also for their out-of-control and violent live shows. The band in its early days toured heavily around the United States and built up a cult following leading up to the release of their debut 1993 album, “To a Frown”. The album caught the attention of more prominent Roadrunner Records, who decided to release the band’s second album “Sore” in 1994. Yet instead of garnering the type of recognition as some of their label mates (Sepultura or Fear Factory, for example), Buzzov-en remained very much a cult band, continuing to tour heavily but ultimately disintegrating before they could issue a follow-up.

The bands second release “Sore” is a sonic assault to all senses, a devastating punch in the face of brutality and complete hatred towards human kind. It is highly recommended for fans of bands like EyeHateGod and mid-era Neurosis. The new digipak edition of “Sore” includes a bonus CD containing 4 additional tracks. Remastered using tube technology, digitally edited on a golden disc. Limited to 2000 copies. Metal Mind Productions set up the release date for 4th October in Europe and 5th October in USA (via MVD).

“Sore” (remastered + bonus tracks)

Label: Metal Mind Records

Cat. No.: MASS CD 1366 DGD

Barcode: 5907785036017

Format: 2CD Digipak (limited edition of 2000 numbered copies)

Genre: Sludge metal

Release date: 04.10.2010 Europe / 05.10.2010 USA

CD 1:

1. Sore

2. Unwilling To Explain

3. Hollow

4. Done

5. I Don’t Like You

6. Broken

7. Pathetic

8. Should I

9. Behaved

10. Blinded

11. Grit

12. This Is Not…

ACLLA: bassist plays with Andre Matos band

August 25th, 2010
by EvilG

The bassist Bruno Ladislau (ACLLA) is temporarily playing in Andre

Matos band (ex-Angra, Shaaman, Viper). He has been replacing Luis

Mariutti who was absent in the last performances of the band.

Bruno was requested for other events such as Bittencourt Project and

Time Out – replacing Felipe Andreoli in both of these – and last year

he played with Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex-Iced Earth, Judas Priest) in his

last Brazilian tour in October and November.

According Bruno Ladislau: “It is an honor to replace those musicians

that have influenced me along my career. I admire and have a great

respect for Luis and Felipe. It is such a big responsibility to

replace them. On the other hand, I had an excellent opportunity to

present my work as a musician. I am really grateful with the feedback

from the fans that have been supporting me every time that I play with

Andre or Rafael. I also would like to thank all the fans in the name

of ACLLA for their affection and support.”
