Brazilian prog power metal band feat. Angra’s singer Edu Falaschi ALMAH has just finished another part of Fragile Equality Tour. The band played in various cities of Brazil finishing this leg on the stage of Marreco’s fest in Brasilia.
ALMAH’s founder, frontman and mastermind Edu Falaschi has come up with an official statement about the recent tour and the future of the band:
“I would like to give a lot of thanks to everybody from the name of Almah for your incredible love and support during these five years of the band. The whole FRAGILE EQUALITY TOUR was unforgettable, mainly due to the amazing presence of the fans on the latest shows: it’s impossible to explain how it feels to see you singing along to all our songs! We haven’t been able to visit all the cities where we would like to play, but we will make it possible in the next tour! At the moment Felipe Andreoli and me are quite busy with the new ANGRA’s things, which naturally slow down the rhythm of Almah activities. However, it doesn’t mean that the band will be stopped. We are already working at new ideas for the next album and when the best moment for it comes we will record a new CD and we will back on track! See you soon, my friends! ALMAH is here: Edu Falaschi, Felipe Andreoli, Marcelo Barbosa, Paulo Schroeber and Marcelo Moreira!”
ALMAH was initially established in 2006 as a project of ANGRA’s singer Edu Falaschi. Since then ALMAH has released two albums worldwide (Almah 2006/2007, Fragile Equality 2008), has turned from a solo-project into a regular band, and has won its own important place on the world metal scene. Edu Falaschi’s mate from Angra Felipe Andreoli (bass) also joined the band in 2007 and they work in ALMAH simultaneously with Angra. The band also relies on Marcelo Barbosa (guitars), Paulo Schroeber (guitars) and Marcelo Moreira (drums). All the musicians of Almah have got their important place on Brazilian metal scene playing in various bands and projects, producing CDs, making workshops and doing teaching and didactic work. Paul Gilbert unleashes his 3rd instrumental masterpiece on Shrapnel Records, August 3rd to the world. “FUZZ UNIVERSE is my third guitar instrumental album,” explains Gilbert. “Being a fan of pop music and rock bands, I am a reluctant convert into the art of instrumental rock music. But after touring with Joe Satriani’s G3, I witnessed firsthand the power of the electric guitar to take center stage and rock the audience. Playing my guitar-driven songs live was a blast! This discovery led to a huge increase in my touring as a solo artist. In the last couple of years, I’ve played nearly 150 shows all over the world, with my guitar leading the way.”
FUZZ UNIVERSE title is inspired by Gilbert being so immersed in the world of guitar it made him realize that he lives in a FUZZ UNIVERSE. “Every generation of guitar players has their own terminology for the rock guitar sound: Distortion, Overdrive, Gain, Crunch, Saturation, Drive etc. For me, the word is FUZZ”
Gilbert’s extraordinary talent of arranging/composing lends to the new music’s fresh melodies for songs that shows his true diversity and only in Gilberts words will you understand:
“On FUZZ UNIVERSE, I think I’ve taken a giant step closer to the ultimate rock guitar sound and playing of my dreams. I’ve used many of my signature techniques from RACER X and MR. BIG, but twisted them into new chords, grooves, and emotions.
As always, my influences are diverse and not what you might expect from a “heavy metal” artist. While I was writing the songs for FUZZ UNIVERSE, I was immersing myself in Bulgarian Female Choir music, Baroque lute and violin pieces, Johnny Cash songs about trains, cows, mules, and mining coal, the Bee Gees, and Ronnie James Dio. I mix all this into my head, and out came endless new ideas for my guitar to chew on.
After several months of being locked in my writing room, I gathered my touring band together and headed to the studio. Jeff Bowders played drums. Craig Martini played bass. Emi Gilbert (my wife) played keyboards. And I bent the guitar strings until I couldn’t play anymore.
As usual, there are no dramatic stories here. No heroin overdoses, motorcycle accidents, celebrity divorces, or band-member boxing matches. The emotion, drama, and power are all in the music. That is the universe that I want to live in”
Paul Gilbert is regarded internationally as one of the greatest players in the industry. Starting his recording career with Shrapnel Records as a teenager in the late 80’s, Gilbert remains one of the most active guitarists from the original shred guitar scene. His rise to Platinum success includes a number one song with Mister Big, and cult status as founding member of the legendary and highly successful underground progressive metal band Racer X.
OCEANO bassist, Jason Jones has supplied an update on how the Chicago deathcore heavyweights are doing while recording their upcoming album CONTAGION with famed producer, Zeuss (MUNICIPAL WASTE, THE ACACIA STRAIN, HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL):
“We’ve been working with Zeuss for a couple weeks now and this album is sounding incredible so far. All of the drums are finished for every song, we’ve got the rhythms done for 7 of the songs so we’re gonna finish up those either tomorrow or the next day, then I’ll record the bass. We’ve also got vocals done for 2 of the songs. Zeuss has been drilling the band everyday pushing us to our limits to make this the best possible record it can be. If something played sucks he’ll say “nah man that sucks do it again” and that’s what every band needs out of a producer. This album is going to blow “depths” out of the water. Keep checkin back for studio updates at youtube.com/oceanotv and don’t forget to come out to the OVER THE LIMIT TOUR this July-August!”
To kick off the start of CONTAGION‘s recording process, OCEANO have posted the premiere episode of OCEANO TV on their brand new official YouTube page. Styled similarly to a 90’s-style multi-camera sitcom, this episode stars drummer, Daniel Terchin. Here, he gives fans a tour of his drum kit, pwns n00bs on Call of Duty and sneaks a peek at his tracking sessions. Watch the video at http://www.youtube.com/OceanoTV
CONTAGION will arrive later this year.
OCEANO will soon be hitting the road once again as part of the Over The Limit Tour. Ever the road warriors, this will not be a typical tour for OCEANO. It will mark their first major North American co-headlining tour alongside AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK. The tour will also act as a prelude to the release of the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, CONTAGION. Those attending the Over The Limit Tour will be among the first anywhere to hear some of the crushing new material from the album.
Joining headliners OCEANO and AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK on the bill will be ARSONISTS GET ALL THE GIRLS, THE TONY DANZA TAPDANCE EXTRAVAGANZA, THICK AS BLOOD, BURNING THE MASSES, CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT, and BLINDWITNESS, with SON OF AURELIUS and THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE on select dates. LOS ANGELES – The wait is over. Hollywood’s emerging theatrical rock sensation, Black Veil Brides, will kick off their highly anticipated headlining tour, the Hot Topic Presents: The Sacred Ceremony tour, tonight in San Diego. The month-and-a-half long trek will take the band across North America and back, as they tour in support of their debut album, We Stitch These Wounds, which hits stores on July 20th on Standby Records. Vampires Everywhere!, Get Scared, and Modern Day Escape will round out the tour’s impressive package.
Delivering songs with lyrics of hope and strength, accompanied by passionate, hook-laden instrumentals, Black Veil Brides took the rock world by the throat with their first single/video, “Knives and Pens” in the summer of 2009. The video has since been viewed more than 11 million times on YouTube, and can be seen at: http://youtube.com/watch?v=gFDCHdKbKBY.
With a thriving and dedicated following of fans, and a highly trafficked MySpace profile (averaging over 10,000 plays a day, peaking in the 9th spot on MySpace’s Top Music Charts in the ‘Metal’ category), Black Veil Brides stand out as LA’s lone breath of fresh air.
We are only just a mere few weeks away from the release of the new IN THIS MOMENT album, A Star-Crossed Wasteland (July 13th), and the reaction to the new single “The Gun Show” proves that this is one of the most anticipated metal releases of the year. Just to further wet fan’s voracious appetites for this new material even more, the band has posted the new track, “Just Drive,” on their MySpace and Facebook page, so click on the links below now to check it out. www.myspace.com/inthismoment or http://www.facebook.com/officialinthismoment
Chris Howorth (guitars) checks in with the following report: “As I write this we are currently nine days from the start of the Mayhem Fest. We have been holed up in our rehearsal studio for the last two weeks working on all the new songs and putting together our set list. We have dialed in a pretty brutal set comprised of songs from our first album and our new CD. We can’t wait to unleash these songs on the Mayhem crowd every day. Over the last two days we have also done a live performance for Fuel TV and an acoustic performance/interview for Revolver TV. Both performances went great and we were stoked that our good friend Adrian Patrick from Otherwise flew in to perform the song ‘The Promise’ with us at both events. It was crazy seeing a dude on stage singing with us, but it was also a really cool change from the norm.
“Maria and Adrian are singing this duet together and playing off each other so it’s really dramatic. Also, on a really cool side note, Adrian is planning to follow the Mayhem tour to perform ‘The Promise’ with us each day, so fans will get to see the song performed just like it is on the album all summer. We are releasing a new song called ‘Just Drive’ today and it’s one of Maria’s and my favorite songs from the album. It’s a driving up tempo song with an epic chorus and aggressive guitar work. We can’t wait for fans to hear it. We love you guys and will see you at Mayhem Fest!”
Ralf live with PRIMAL FEAR in Toronto, Canada (May 24, 2010)
PRIMAL FEAR vocalist Ralf Scheepers is working on his first solo album. An update from Primal Fear and SINNER bassist Mat Sinner – who is playing bass on the entire record and producing – reads as follows:
“After three years in the making, we will start finally with the production of Ralf’s first solo album this weekend. One of the most colorful personalities of the Swedish metal scene will nail down the drums and Studio Seven – Snowy Shaw, who is well known for his work in DREAM EVIL, THERION, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, NOTRE DAME etc. We’ve confirmed a photo-shoot with Alex Kühr in Germany for the cover artwork on Tuesday. More news on the progress and the impressive guestlist will be revealed soon!”
About the style of the solo effort Sinner told BraveWords.com recently: “In part it’s very metal. Very metal. So it will not be Ralf’s ballad album. There were some ballads where Ralf was showing a different kind of music, his talent in music, because he’s playing all the instruments on one song, for example. So you hear him playing guitar, keyboards, so it’s very interesting. But overall I will say it’s a very tough metal album.”

Each time he’s cornered by his circular, shiny fortress of Tama drums, BLACK SABBATH’s Bill Ward remains a fierce force in music.
At 62, Sabbath’s original – and most acclaimed – drummer remains muscular and innovative behind his kit, as seen and heard in the latest entry of the Classic Albums DVD series, Black Sabbath: Paranoid. The disc offers an in-depth look at the making of the British band’s groundbreaking second album, Paranoid, and reveals how Ward and fellow co-founders Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar) and Geezer Butler (bass) nailed each song in only two takes back in 1970.
“Yeah, I really enjoyed making that DVD, and we enjoyed making the Paranoid album back then,” Ward said during a recent telephone interview from his home in Seal Beach, CA. “We rehearsed for a lot of tours in Wales, and the songs ‘Electric Funeral’ and ‘Hand of Doom’ were written in Wales. Those were good, really happy times. We were young men, fit and strong.”
Another excerpt from the interview follows:
Ward, Osbourne, Iommi and Butler re-teamed as Black Sabbath for the one-off Live Aid event in 1985 before beginning a series of reunion tours in the 1990s.
“Everyone has an open mind about touring again, but right now, everyone is doing different projects,” said Ward, who will release the hardcore-meets-jazz Accountable Beasts compact disc later this year. “But I’d love to do another album and tour with the Sabs. It keeps me fresh and going.”
The long-awaited feature, Classic Albums: Black Sabbath – Paranoid, has finally hit stores.
Eagle Rock Entertainment’s acclaimed and award-winning Classic Albums series uncovers the story of the making of the legendary heavy metal album. Available on DVD and Blu-Ray, the feature comes just in time for the 40th anniversary of Paranoid.
In a new clip just released online from the documentary, Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi and Bill Ward, along with punk icon HENRY ROLLINS and legendary Warner Bros Records executive Joe Smith, discuss the band and the controversy around the Paranoid album.
Pomona, California thrashers BONDED BY BLOOD are preparing to release their brand new album, EXILED TO EARTH, on August 10th in North America and August 16th in Europe.
EXILED TO EARTH is a unique concept album about an alien race called The Crong, who have taken control of planet Earth. To celebrate the upcoming release of the album, BONDED BY BLOOD have released a special comic strip to give fans a taster of mankind’s fight to reclaim our planet.
VALDUR, California lords of all that is black and abysmal, are readying to unleash their long-awaited new full-length Raven God Amongst Us. Featuring nine tracks of sonic decay, the self-financed/self-produced long player will be released via drummer Sxuperion’s own BloodyMountain Records.
Said Sxuperion of the infernal offering: ” The new full length is named after a song from our split with Lightning Swords Of Death that came out a couple of years ago. This all makes sense to us as it is another necessary piece of the dark and mysterious puzzle that is called ‘Creation.’ Once again, it is self-funded by the band and released on my own BloodyMountain Records, proof that we truly believe in what we are doing and how important it is at this time to delve deeper into the abyss that is VALDUR.”
Raven God Amongst Us follows the band’s limited two-song 7″ released via SatansMight/CultoftheHorns and the three-way split with Killgasm and Shitestrom released via ChristHammer Records earlier this year.
Raven God Amongst Us Track Listing
