Pekka Kiviaho, guitarist for Persuader

Interviewed by EvilG in Sept. 2000

Pekka Kiviaho - Persuader guitarist

If you checked out the CD reviews for August 2000, you’ll know that I was VERY impressed with Persuader. So much so, that I hunted down guitarist Pekka and got the scoop on the band. If there is one new up and coming band from Sweden to keep your eyes on then this is THE band. Fans of heavy power metal will not regret checking this band out!

The Crown – Marco Tervonen

August 28th, 2005

Marco Tervonen of The Crown
Interview with THE CROWN
Interviewed By Waspman:
At The Reverb in Toronto, August 10th 2000

When the whirlwind that is the Cannibal Corpse / Nile / Krisiun / The Crown tour whipped through Toronto a few weeks ago, I had the honor of meeting one of the best guitarists and song writers in the death metal scene today: Marko Tervonen from The Crown. With all of the killer riffs that come from his guitar, you’d think that Marko would be a gruff kinda guy. In reality, he’s a very funny and fun to talk to. The following is a conversation that we had just before his band stormed the stage and killed about 800 Toronto fans.

Vocalist Rob Rock
Interviewed by Rick

Rob Rock is one of the greatest voices in Metal today. From his early days with M.A.R.S. through his long association with Impellitteri, Rob has proved consistently that he has what it takes to be a major player on the metal scene. Rob Rock has finally released a solo cd and has enlisted the help of  long time friend and Bruce Dickinson cohort, Roy Z. Together they have created an outstanding piece of metal that is sure to get Rob the recognition he deserves. I recently had the opportunity to pose these questions to Rob Rock.

IRON MAIDEN’s Steve Harris (Classic interview)

August 28th, 2005

Classic Interview with IRON MAIDEN’s Steve Harris
July 1982, Alpine Valley Resort, Wisconsin

Steve Harris picture from 1982Interviewed by Gueniviere in 1982!

This article/interview, written when Iron Maiden were the support band on the Scorpions’ “Blackout” Tour, first appeared in the August/1982, edition of NIGHT ROCK NEWS, a now-defunct Chicago music paper.

The following is a transcription of the article I wrote from the first interview I did with Steve Harris back in July of ’82. It’s so funny to view some of the comments in hindsight! Remember, at the time, not all that much was known about Iron Maiden in the US yet, and there was no internet to access the info. You basically had to rely on anything else that was written that you could find, and at the time there wasn’t much around in the US. But then, it made me ask questions I might not have asked otherwise!

Rhapsody – Luca Turilli

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

Rhapsody’s Luca Turilli
Interviewed by EvilG in August 2000

Rhapsody are one of the newer bands that have come along in the last couple of years that have really impressed me. From their lyrics that tell the saga of the Emerald Sword to their unique blend of power/speed metal with classical music this band is not for the casual listener. Band pillar, Luca Turilli also fronts his own solo band which is as impressive as his full-time band. I waited for the opportunity to interview Luca for months. For a while he was on the road with Rhapsody, playing on the same bill as Stratovarius and Sonata Artcia. In the final stages of recording the new Rhapsody CD Dawn of Victory, Luca took the time out of his schedule to call me just days before Rhapsody were to take to the stage at this year’s Wacken Open Air festival.

Cannibal Corpse – George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher of Cannibal Corpse

Interviewed at The Reverb in Toronto,
August 10th 2000 by Waspman.

Interviewing a band is never an easy experience, let alone when the interviewee is one of the most brutal voices in metal, George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. You’d think that the tortured voice of Cannibal Corpse would be an imposing presence, but as he proved during the course of the interview, Corpsegrinder is just a metal fan himself, who doesn’t see much of a gap between himself and his fans. Speaking to Corpsegrinder shortly before Cannibal Corpse’s killer set in Toronto, I had the chance to chat with him about numerous subjects, including the forthcoming live album, fantasy tours, and Six Feet Under.

Iron Maiden’s Steve Harris
Interviewed By Gueniviere on July 22, 2000

Before I get to the meat of the most recent interview I did with Steve Harris (the first of several others was done back in early ’82),  perhaps a little background is in order…

Gamma Ray / Freedom Call – Dan Zimmermann

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

Metal-Rules.com interview with Dan Zimmermann: Drummer for Gamma Ray & Freedom Call

Interviewed by EvilG,
July 24 2000

One of my personal favorites and one of the most respected power metal bands is Gamma Ray. The thunder behind Gamma Ray is the great drummer Daniel Zimmermann who joined Gamma Ray prior to the release of their 1997 album Somewhere Out In Space. Since that time, Dan has also been a part of Iron Savior and now the glorious Freedom Call. Thanks to the awesome people at Noise Records, I was given the chance to speak with Dan about his pre-Gamma Ray bands, what Gamma Ray is currently doing and information on his other band Freedom Call.

Skid Row – Dave “Snake” Sabo

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

Skid Row – A Return To The Grind
Interviewed By Keith McDonald in July 2000

Skid Row literally exploded onto the scene when they went from the local clubs right into a major arena tour with Bon Jovi. With the help of the hits 18 and Life, I Remember You and the anthem Youth Gone Wild, Skid Row, made up of bassist Rachel Bolan, guitarists Dave “Snake” Sabo and Scotti Hill, drummer Rob Affuso and singer Sebastian “Bas” Bach, ruled the MTV airwaves and went on to sell more than 12 million albums worldwide. After internal problems within caused the band to part ways, the new millennium has seen Skid Row reunite for the KISS Farewell Tour. But they have added new parts to the puzzle including new vocalist Johnny Solinger and drummer Charlie Mills. I had the chance to speak to Dave who filled me in the tour and new vibe they now have.

Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society

August 28th, 2005
by EvilG

Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society:
Ass Beatings and Beer Drinking

Interviewed in June 2000 by EvilG

When I think of Zakk Wylde, I think of blaring ripping solos, ultra-thick rhythms ripe with cool artificial harmonics and of course the image buried in my mind of the head-banging maniac in Ozzy Osbourne’s “Miracle Man” video. Zakk is still playing metal and still searing his fretboard on his new solo CD Stronger Than Death for his band Black Label Society. You will find a mixture of metal styles reminiscent of his work with Ozzy and his Sabbath influences coupled with a drop of Pantera and some groove / southern rock orientated music. I was given the chance to talk with Zakk about the new Black Label CD, metal, beer, Ozzy and of course guitar!
