Defleshed

Interview with Lars L?fven of Defleshed

Interviewed in March 2000 by EvilG

Defleshed - band photo

Defleshed are one of the few newer EXTREME metal bands that I’ve gotten into recently. Their two CD’s that I’ve had the pleasure to hear -  “Under the Blade” and the newest, “Fast Forward” combine thrash and blackened death metal. This is quite the potent mixture and is not for those searching for “happy” music or “melodic” metal. This is pure brutality played tightly and with riffs that would make even Slayer jealous.

Jon Schaffer – Iced Earth, Demons and Wizards

August 27th, 2005
by EvilG

Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth / Demons & Wizards

Interviewed in March 2000 by EvilG

To me, Iced Earth are like the saviors of American METAL. They, and a small but growing handful of bands from the US, are playing what I consider to be REAL METAL. The latest piece of excitement for all Iced Earth and Blind Guardian fans is the much hyped (and deservedly so) collaboration of Jon Schaffer and Hansi Kursch called Demons & Wizards. I was given the opportunity to talk to Jon about this band and about what’s in store for us with regards to Iced Earth.

The band has folded and reformed a couple of times, but is currently disbanded. Mike Wead and Marco Nicosia have since formed a new band called Hemisfear, who have signed to Heathendoom Records. Wead is also the current lead guitarist for Mercyful Fate. Will now talk to Marco who was and is involved with Fifth Reason, Hemisfear, Seventh Key, Memento Mori as well as Hexenhaus.

OVERKILL : Bobby ?Blitz? Ellsworth

August 26th, 2005
by Arto Lehtinen

Interview By Arto Lehtinen / Transcription by Blake Wolfe

Overkill is definitely and without any doubt one of the longest running and the most hard working touring thrash bands around today. The legendary New York thrash metal squad haven?t slowed down any inch. They just keeping on thrashing year after year. Even though our Canadian collegue Lord Of The WasteLand did a real massive in-depth interview with the frontman of Overkill Bobby Ellsworth, but I couldn?t turn down an opportunity of doing another interview with Ellsworth who politely answered a few questions.

Benjamin Zur Heide - bass guitar & vocals, Peter Breitenbach - drums, Bj?rn Eilen - vocals & guitarsBj?rn Eilen of WARHEAD

Interviewed on February 22, 2000 by EvilG

Warhead are a fairly new band from Germany. Unlike many of the better known German bands, Warhead do not play power metal but just straight-up aggressive METAL. They have elements of thrash metal and traditional metal in their sound. I had the opportunity to speak with Warhead’s vocalist/guitarist, Bj?rn Eilen, just one day after the European release of their new concept CD “Beyond Recall.”

Kelly Shaefer of ATHEIST

Kelly Shaefer of ATHEIST
Interviewed in Feb. 2000 by EvilG
Thanks to Nathan Robinson for helping out with the questions!

Atheist are one of the more influential yet under-rated technical death metal bands of the early 90′s. Unfortunately, the band dissolved in 1994 and now ten years after the band’s first release people are just starting to get it now. In the coming months Atheist’s three CD’s – Piece of Time (1989), Unquestionable Presence (1991) and Elements (1993) will be re-released. The vocalist for Atheist, Kelly Shaefer, recently spoke with with us at length concerning Atheist and to a lesser degree about his new band Neurotica which was formed in 1994 as a (then) side-project.

Ron Jarzombek – Spastic Ink / WatchTower

August 24th, 2005
by EvilG

Ron Jarzombek of Spastic Ink / WatchTower
Interviewed in February 2000 by Noel

Spastic Ink is a solo project of former Watchtower guitarist Ron Jarzombek. Watchtower dissolved due to physical aliments and certain members other commitments. Ink Complete specializes in super-complex instrumental fusion metal. Jarzombek’s distinctive style is in top form here. There are few other bands that possess such technical and musical prowess. Completely brilliant in it’s complexity and unique original thought. Currently the line-up seems to be Sean Malone (ex-Cynic), Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus/Testament), and and none other than former Watchtower vocalist Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys), and drummer Richard Christy (Death/Control Denied) but that is yet too be determined. So be prepared too dive into a glimpse within the Watchtower Past and Spastic Ink Future.

KAMELOT’s Thomas Youngblood

August 24th, 2005

Interview With Kamelot’s Thomas Youngblood – January 29th, 2000

Interviewed Jan.29, 2000 by EvilG

GODLY!! That was my reaction upon hearing Kamelot’s latest offering “The Fourth Legacy.” This CD has everything – the fast aggressive double kickers, excellent lead guitars, great vocals, the melodic, the gentle, the thoughtful. Upon first listen it’s understandable to assume this is a European band. However, the band are based out of TAMPA, Florida, USA! They are getting excellent push from their label, Noise Records, for this, their second CD to be released in North America. So some of us have some catching up to do. Fans of power / melodic bands should do themselves a favor and check this band out today!

I was given the honor to talk with Kamelot’s guitarist  – Thom Youngblood.
