GREAT WHITE – guitarist Mark Kendall

November 8th, 2010
by Marko Syrjala

Great White, the Los Angeles based hard rock band, formed in late 70’s. The band gained its popularity during the mid 1980s and early 1990s. The band released several successful albums including platinum sellers: ONCE BITTEN.., …TWICE SHY and HOOKED and they gained great airplay on MTV with hit songs like “Rock Me” and "Once Bitten, Twice Shy”". Although band has since then lost its platinum status they have continued to release albums and toured successfully across the world. The latest release RISING came out in 2009 and since its release the band has been almost constantly on tour. In the late summer of 2010 band announced that its lead singer and founding member Jack Russell was forced to sit out from bands activities for serious health reasons. Although Jack is very important part of the Great White sound, the band decided to carry on with other singers. Terry Ilous from XYZ did several shows with the band and the former Warrant Singer Jani Lane is booked to fill Jack’s shoes for several near future shows. In September, the band came to Sweden to headline Stockholm Rockout festival with another singer, Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot), handling the lead vocalist duties. It was time to sit down with the band’s nother founding member, guitarist Mark Kendall, and try to find out what’s really going on in the world of Great White!

HELIX Filming Reality Show; Smash Hits Unplugged Audio Samples Available

Helix - unplugged

Helix - unplugged

HELIX mainman Brian Vollmer has issued the following update:

“Cameraman Pat Portelance has been following me around a lot lately, as we’re filming for the pilot for our reality show Vagabond Bones. I’m really excited as to where this could lead if we get a network to carry it. I know what you’re thinking-not another reality show! I really think our story is unique however. A clear distinction between us and the other shows out there is the personalities in the band. That’s always been our strongest point and one that we plan on focusing on when we film. Pat is going to spend a day with everyone at their homes to capture the ‘essence’ of what we’re all about, as well as the shows we have coming up, including our four date/three-day stint in Alberta at the end of November. We plan on getting the behind the scenes ‘stuff’ that’s involved with putting dates together. Unlike the American reality shows which focus on lavish lifestyles, ours is a blue collar story of a Canadian band traveling the vast expanses of the country. Along the way we’ll visit old haunts, interview and talk to fellow Canadian musicians, and dispense some of the wisdom that hopefully we’ve learned over the years. I said hopefully…LOL. Just the fact that we’re touring across Canada will give the show an entirely different look.”

Helix’ new acoustic album, Smash Hits Unplugged, will be released before the end of the year.

Smash Hits Unplugged tracklisting:

‘Rock You’
‘Heavy Metal Love’
‘Gimme Gimme Good Lovin’’
‘Make Me Do (Anything You Want)’
‘Wild In The Streets’/’No Rest For The Wicked’
‘Deep Cuts The Knife’
‘The Kids Are All Shakin’’
‘Dream On’
‘That Day Is Gonna Come’
‘Dream On’
‘Good To The Last Drop’

ANNIHILATOR: Live at Club Tavastia, Helsinki

November 7th, 2010
by Marko Syrjala

The long running Canadian thrash metal veteran Annihilator have visited Finland a couple of times before. Their first visit happened back in 1991 as support for Judas Priest and Pantera, who were largely still an unknown act at that time. Their second visit was a couple of years ago when the band supported Trivium at the sold out The House of Culture. Therefore, it was about time for Jeff Waters and company to have a headlining show of their own. The timing was nothing but perfect when over 600 metalheads crawled to the show on a Friday night.

REVOLVER have officially changed their name to FAMOUS UNDERGROUND

November 6th, 2010
by Celtic Bob

Toronto’s REVOLVER have officially changed their name to FAMOUS UNDERGROUND. Frontman Nick Walsh, who initially made a name for himself in the ’90s with SLIK TOXIK, has issued the following statement:

“There is a pop band out of Europe that is starting to make waves in North America, and we have been contacted by multiple international press and media agencies who seem to be confusing us with them. So as to avoid anymore brand confusion, we felt that the time to re-brand was now, especially considering that we have a new recording that we are currently shopping for a release.”

Famous Underground will be playing some shows in Ontario this December, more details to come. Check out the band’s official website here.

As previously reported the new single, ‘Wasteland’, will be available for download for Rock Band in time for the holiday season. It will be released in December, more details will be revealed soon. Click here for information on Rock Band.

‘Wasteland’ is currently available for preview and purchase via iTunes.

RAVAGE ‘Grapes Of Wrath’ video to debut on Monday Nov 8th

November 6th, 2010
by EvilG

“Grapes Of Wrath” the long-awaited new video from Boston MA area traditional heavy metal / thrashers Ravage will finally premiere on the irreverent video game blog D-Pad D-bags located at this Monday November 8th at 3:00 p.m. EST. The clip was filmed back in the summer of 2009, but had to be sent back for a number of re-edits due to some controversial parodic subject matter, violent content and special effects issues.

Ravage singer Al Ravage commented, “I’m proud of what we were able to put together with this video despite a non-existent budget. I think we were able to get our message across in a very entertaining way. The song itself speaks to the personal struggles of the people of our generation as we try to wade through the turbulent waters of this rough economic and social climate. Everyone our age knows someone who has lost his or her job, been burdened by ever increasing credit card or student loan debt and dually had to deal with the fallout of two on-going foreign wars. The song basically is a wake-up call to the brain-dead media personalities and political figures who sit idly by as the world tears itself appart and try to blame music or art for the problems of today’s youth. As for the video, as usual, we threw quite a bit in the blender for you all to keep it interesting – including some comedy, some gore, some parody, and a not-so subtle homage to one of
our favorite Judas Priest videos. Working with Egan from LAWSON: WHITE HEAT was a blast ‘in particular’ and I’m sure all members of the Society For World Wide Ravage will get a kick out of this video.”

The video was directed by John Koziol who last worked on the feature-length action comedy film LAWSON: WHITE HEAT and has previously worked on video projects for such diverse artists as AGNOSTIC FRONT and THE WU-TANG CLAN.

Ravage’s latest album “The End Of Tomorrow” was released by Metal Blade Records.

MOTORHEAD – More The Wörld Is Yours Album Details Revealed

November 6th, 2010
by EvilG
Motorhead - the world is yours

Motorhead - the world is yours

Motörhead Music/UDR, EMI Label Services and Future Publishing have announced an exciting new release schedule for the brand new studio album from the incomparable titans of rock – MOTÖRHEAD – preceded by the debut single from the album, ‘Born To Lose’.

In a thrilling new development, the U.K. release of The Wörld Is Yours will now be a two-fold affair. On December 14, following Motörhead’s UK tour, a Classic Rock Presents Motörhead fan pack will hit news-stands across the country. This is a 132-page magazine featuring not only brand new interviews with the band alongside a complete career overview, but also the entire album on CD. It will retail at £14.99 and is the perfect way for U.K. fans to purchase the album in the run up to Christmas.

Following this four-week exclusive period, the album will then be released on January 17 in a standard CD format and available to buy in all usual retailers at the price of a regular CD.

This follows the fantastic success earlier this year of the Slash fan pack, devoted to the debut solo album by Slash, which was a massive commercial success, selling 30,000 copies on the newsstands before the standard release saw Slash fly into the Top 10 of the U.K. album charts.

The Wörld Is Yours is a vital, scorching statement of intent from Motörhead as they launch Motörhead Music, their very first record label.

In a recent interview with The Evening Chronicle, drummer Mikkey Dee stated about the band’s first venture into the record company business and Motörhead’s upcoming UK tour, “We have really competent people running Motörhead Music. Unfortunately, this album is getting out a little late. It won’t even be out for the U.K. tour, which is a shame, but we are going to be playing two or three songs from the album as we don’t want the U.K. audience to miss out on it his year. We had been with out label for many years and they had been fantastic to us and we had full control, nothing we can complain over at all, not the slightest. But the whole company went under. The best people out of that company are now running the new deal. When we actually got going it was fantastic — everything went so easy, In fact, I’m surprised how easy it went.”

Motörhead have never just been the best rock n roll band in the world. They’ve never just been the loudest. Or the hardest. Or the toughest. Or the bad-ass-est. No… Motörhead are also a lifestyle. Motörhead are a mindset, a belief, a way to live your life, a way to both survive and beat a society that sometimes seems intent on trying to grind you down.

Which is why Motörhead have chosen now, in what might be some of the most tense times in recent global history, to release a hell-raising, rebel-rousing rock’n’roll opus known as The Wörld Is Yours.

Written and performed by Lemmy Kilmister, Philip Campbell and Mikkey Dee in both Los Angeles, California and Wales, with production once again by Cameron Webb, The Wörld Is Yours serves to remind everyone that you should never stop questioning or critiquing a society that would surely chew you up and spit you if given half a chance. And with 10 soul-scorching testaments to the unbridled power this world-famous trio continually maintain, The Wörld Is Yours delivers some of the finest, most important Motörmusic yet.

On instant classics such as ‘Get Back In Line’, Kilmister thunders that “The way we are is not the way we used to be my friend,” and “We are trapped in luxury, starving on parole, no-one told us who to love, we have sold our souls,” whilst on ‘Brotherhood Of Man’ Kilmister roars “You cannot hide the truth from me I know what?s in your heart, greed and jealousy each equal, all your days now dark.” And with the defiant, uproarious “Rock ‘N’ Roll Music”, Kilmister and Co. remind everyone that “rock and roll music is the true religion” and “rock and roll even gonna set you free, make the lame walk and the blind see.”

Recorded during the late spring, the album’s creation was thrown into turmoil by the poor health and sad eventual passing of Philip Campbell’s father; the situation dictated that Philip needed to be home during some of the scheduled recording time, so Motörhead hired a studio in Wales where Campbell was able to continue working on ideas and record tracks whilst first Mikkey and Lemmy, and then just Lemmy, laid down the rest of the album in L.A. But being Motörhead, nothing fazed them, and with “The Wörld Is Yours” the band have triumphed over adversity to produce an absolute stormer of an album.

The Wörld Is Yours tracklisting:

‘Born To Lose’

‘I Know How To Die’

‘Get Back In Line’

‘Devil’s In My Head’

‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Music’

‘Waiting For The Snake’

‘Brotherhood Of Man’

‘I Know What You Need’

‘Bye Bye Bitch Bye Bye’

Rhapsody of Fire, Mustasch, Walter Trout and Groundhogs to Sweden Rock 2011!

November 5th, 2010
by EvilG

Finally it’s time for RHAPSODY OF FIRE to play Sweden Rock. With “The Cold Embrace of Fear” the band have arrived at their ninth full-length album, and in 2011 they make their highly anticipated return to the live scene. Including SRF, like so many of you have been yearning for so long.

Machistic rock, based on fat riffs, contagious choruses and a lethal groove is their simple but effective recipe for success.  MUSTASCH will be back at the festival next summer.
Next artist has developed his very own style as a blues- and rock guitarist, examplified by his latest and 20th (!) solo record “Common Ground”. We welcome WALTER TROUT to Sweden Rock 2011.
Last, but not least we proudly present legendary GROUNDHOGS with guitarist Tony McPhee up front!.

"Thrash or Die", festival in Tijuana/Mexico on December 17, 2010.

"Thrash or Die", festival in Tijuana/Mexico on December 17, 2010.

German thrashers EXUMER have been confirmed to headline the “Thrash or Die”,  festival in Tijuana/Mexico on December 17, 2010.

This appearance marks the band’s first live performance in Mexico to date and EXUMER’s final live show for 2010.

The two main supports in the festival’s line-up are Californian thrashers FULED BY FIRE and BONDED BY BLOOD, who have also supported EXUMER

at last year’s Thrasho de Mayo festival.

Vocalist Mem V. Stein comments: “It is a great honor for us finally play in Mexico, especially this year which is our 25th anniversary. We know that we have many Mexican fans and that was quite evident when we played at the Thrasho de Mayo festival last year in L.A. I am quiet convinced that we will have a similar reception in Tijuana and we are very much looking forward to meet our Mexican fans. We are going to take a brief break from playing after this show in order to record our new album and then return to the stage with a completely new live-set, late spring/early summer 2011.”
