SEBASTIAN BACH Introduces New Guitarist

Vocalist SEBASTIAN BACH, who recently parted ways with guitarist Nick Sterling, has introduced LA-based Jeff George as Sterling’s replacement.

George made his live debut with Bach on Friday, September 28th in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada at Casino Nova Scotia.

Bach recently spoke with Amber Lee at Wisconsin rock radio station 93 Rock about the “contractual issues” as cited by guitarist Nick Sterling via a Facebook post that prevented him from performing with Bach’s band.
An excerpt from the interview is as follows:

“We did a big broadcast on AXS TV that we worked really, really hard on. It was a very big deal that we were on television from coast to coast all across the United States of America. Everybody that was involved in the broadcast had to sign a release so we could film it and they would agree to be part of the broadcast and the DVD coming out. Everybody signed it. I talked to Nick two days before the show and he still hadn’t signed it. And I’m like, ‘Dude, we’re filming this in two days. You have to sign this.’ And he guaranteed to me on the phone that he would sign it and be a part of it, and then when we got to soundcheck, he wouldn’t sign the release. So we could not film the show with him; he wouldn’t let us. He wanted all these sorts of demands that nobody else in the band wanted that were completely unreasonable.

If someone is not happy in my band, I will be the first one to show them the door and say, ‘Don’t let it hit you in the ass on the way out. If you’re not happy and you’re not part of the team and you’re not interested in being successful or being professional, then get out of my band.’ I’ve been doing this for 25-30 years and all I ask is that somebody is a professional in my band and has it together on stage and doesn’t wreck it for the rest of us, which is what he did in L.A. the other day.”

As previously reported, Bach had been scheduled to play a show in Toronto, ON, on September 30th at The Rockpile. BraveWords reported that show has now been cancelled. No reason – official or otherwise – has been given. Ticket refunds will be issued.

His complete live itinerary can be viewed below:

13 – Rock’N’Roll Fantasy Camp – Las Vegas, NV
27 – Loudpark Festival – Saitama Shi, Japan

24 – B.B. King Blues Club and Grill – New York, NY
25 – Emporium – Davis Park, NY
30 – Hard Rock Hell – Wales, United Kingdom

KAMELOT Backing Singers Fill In For NIGHTWISH Frontwoman In Denver; Fan-video available

Kamelot / Nightwish 2012 North American Tour

Kamelot / Nightwish 2012 North American Tour

KAMELOT backing singers Elize Ryd (also of AMARANTHE) and Alissa White-Gluz (also of THE AGONIST) filled in for NIGHTWISH vocalist Anette Olzon last night (Friday, September 28) at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, Colorado after Olzon was taken ill and had to be hospitalized.

Commented NIGHTWISH: “We were in hell [yesterday]. Vocalist in a hospital. Show about to be canceled… But nobody gave up an inch. With the help from the ladies Elize and Alissa from KAMELOT, we actually managed to pull of a relaxed and great show! The crowd doing the mass karaoke with the band playing was absolutely amazing. We were humbled and grateful at the same time. This is unity and help from friends and fans. Anette is already recovering, thanks to the medical staff and whatever powers there exists. The shows will go on.

We give our greatest respect to Alissa, Elize and the crowd in Ogden Theatre, Denver. You rule!!!”

Anette posted this update on Saturday, 29 September 2012:

“My dear ones…

I am so sorry that I couldn’t be on stage yesterday in Denver:-( I got very ill the night before and first went to the ER in the morning and were there for 5 hours before they released me with some painkillers and thought it was a kidney stone. Unfortunately I got worse at 7 in the evening and started vomitting heavily and my fever rised. After talking to the hospital they said I should cancel the show and come straight back in to the ER. I was there all night and I was very dehydrated so they gave me 2 litres of fluid though an IV, they did blood tests, ultrasounds on my kidneys and finally a ct scan. These tests didn’t show why I was so ill but probably the stomach pain has a connection with me having the flu or just stress. They did find something else though and for that I’m grateful. If I didn’t do the scan I wouldn’t know there’s a big cyst in my liver and I need to go check it out ASAP at home. I do feel better today but still fever cough and a very soar throat but hopefully I can be on stage tonight, even if it means shorten the set list. Thanks for your time to read this! Enjoy this day! – Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone”

Previously available only on DVD, as part of the 2011 Bars To The Stars 5DVD boxed set, A Twisted Christmas features the classic tracks “I Wanna Rock”, and “You Can’t Stop Rock ‘n’ Roll” alongside such Christmas favorites as “White Christmas,” “Deck The Halls,” “12 Days Of Christmas,” and many more. “O Come, All Ye Faithful” gets a very special Twisted treatment, with a music bed of “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” This is the kind of Christmas spirit that only Twisted Sister can unleash, produced as always by Twisted Sister bassist extraordinaire Mark “The Animal” Mendoza.

Vocalist Dee Snider (or Snider Claus, taking the stage in Santa’s suit), guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, bassist Mark Mendoza, and drummer A.J. Pero took the merriment on the road in 2006, following the release of their holiday album A Twisted Christmas. This tinsel-trimmed, heavy metal holiday extravaganza, filmed in Las Vegas, has also become an annual tradition in New York City.

“The Twisted Sister Live in Las Vegas performance was the realization of all that the show could be,” states French. “It brought together all the elements which made the Twisted Christmas album such a huge success combining the unique transformation of some of the world’s greatest Christmas classics done in pure Heavy Metal style with extraordinary visuals. The energy of the live performance on the recording reflects our own shock and awe as we, the band, watched our dreams unfold. It really was A December to Remember.

A Twisted Xmas – Live In Las Vegas offers a unique Xmas show from a truly original band. “Mistletoe and Wine” this is not…

MOB RULES: “Ice & Fire” video clip & single released!

September 28th, 2012
by EvilG

Northern German melodic metallers MOB RULES have just released their new video clip, filmed for their new single “Ice & Fire”. The band’s new album “Cannibal Nation” is scheduled for an October 19th release).

Guitarist Matthias Mineur comments:
“The song was inspired by the fate of the Columbian politician Ingrid Betancourt, who was kidnapped by rebels and held captive for six years. In interviews, she has repeatedly talked about her ordeal, about her constant fear of death and torture, and about the wonderful feeling of being reunited with her friends and family. A life between fire and ice, in other words: between two extremes. This video reflects the song’s slightly melancholy atmosphere and the life Betancourt was forced to endure surrounded by nature deep in the jungle.”

Enslaved - RIITIIR

Enslaved – RIITIIR

The following is the final installment of an 8-part series where bassist/vocalist/lyricist Grutle Kjellson and rhythm guitarist/songwriter/lyricist Ivar Bjørnson of the Norwegian progressive extreme metal band ENSLAVED offer insight on the tracks comprising their twelfth studio album, RIITIIR, due out in Europe today and in North America on October 9th.

Kjellson on RIITIIR’s final track, “Forsaken”:

The final music Ivar wrote and the final lyrics I wrote actually ended up on the last song this time around.  It also ended up being our longest song in ages. This one though, could not be placed anywhere else, being perhaps the most diverse song on the album. It starts off almost punk-like (ouch!), but as long as it´s only punk-like, it’s okay. There are good punk acts, too, like the Ramones for instance… but that’s miles beside the point. It starts off with raw energy, moves into nearly Tangerine Dream-like soundscapes (me and Ivar share a love for ‘70s German electronica), moves further into a Pink Floyd-like bridge, explodes into a Hypocrisy-styled epic Death Metal theme before it all ends with something that Pete Steel could have written. So this song pretty much sums up, at least, some of the variety of inspiration we have gotten from our idols – hopefully by just taking inspiration, rather than stealing. Others will have to be the judge of that…heh, heh. On the lyrical side, these are some of those lyrics that have been lying in the back of my mind for ages, just waiting to be written down. I met the genius of Robert Lowe from OM (no, not the actor, nor the Candlemass vocalist) at the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg (NL) this year, and we were introduced by our mutual friend Stephen ‘Nitwit’ O´Malley. We soon realized that we shared a lot of common thoughts on the ways of viewing the world, and I invited him to co-write a lyric together with me for the next album. Unfortunately our schedules fucked up a bit, so there just wasn’t time enough to do so. But the themes we largely discussed at the Roadburn Festival ended up in my lyrics for ‘Forsaken.’ Thanks a lot for the inspiration, Rob, and I hope we can fulfill the task sometime later. The lyrics landed on the outskirts of the concept overbuilding of RIITIIR, but it deals with the decadence that lays a dark shadow on all societies around the world, and it is thus something all of us unfortunately have in common…

Bjørnson on “Forsaken”:

“This song is a bit of a rarity, in the sense that it is a last-song-on-the-album that was written specifically for that purpose. The more usual route is to write material until something tells me we have an album (and then make up the order of songs), but this time this something was more specific: ‘You have an album, just write the finisher.’ Again, who am I to question these things? A thing that is striking is how crystallized the singers’ work are: both Grutle’s various vocal identities throughout the song and then Herbrand [Larsen]’s amazing performance on the outro. They’re both breaking new ground for themselves and the band here. Then I am going to pat myself on the back (on the behind would be weird!) for my little comeback on the piano on the intro and outro, as well as paying homage to the heroes of the synthesizers and sequencers of the ‘70s. It is all in all a fitting conclusion for the album, and creates some space at the end of a pretty dense album. Hopefully others will also have the same feeling after hearing it: wanting to hear the entire album again…”

JAGGERNAUT New official audio available

September 28th, 2012
by EvilG

Niclas Lideskär Johnsson (ex. FULL STRIKE, ex. FATAL SMILE) and Wojtek Lisicki (LOST HORIZON, “ex”. LUCIFERION, ex. AGAINST THE PLAGUES) who earlier united their creative powers return with some essential updates.

“Niclas and Wojtek said to ZERO Magazine on September 17th
We admit that we’ve gone underground for some time, but there are reasons for that. Since over half a year we have been totally occupied with configuring the band and with a very intence studio work. The goal was to achieve a right structure of members on both professional and interpersonal level, with true dedication and passion for music and band-life. The goal we now have achieved.

Consequently, we would like to present the new band members, also participating on the recording of this album – Gunnar Hård Af Segerstad (ex. DISDAIN) and Kaj Leissner (ex. ARISE).

Parallelly to that we have been working our asses off with composing new songs and also re-writing and super-updating the older ones. The result is however fulfilling. We have managed to create a consistent material with great homogeneity at the same time with variation of different metal styles presented in a modern form. Everything is combined with and embellished by complex electronic ornaments of mysterious characters and suggestive natures.

You can listen to the songs “Terminated Fate” and “Sophisticated Machines” confronting our solemn faces at the Youtube links below. Both songs from the forthcoming debut album.

JAGGERNAUT – Sophisticated Machines (2012)

JAGGERNAUT – Terminated Fate (2012)

Enslaved - RIITIIR

Enslaved – RIITIIR

The following is the seventh of eight installments where rhythm guitarist/songwriter/lyricist Ivar Bjørnson and bassist/vocalist/lyricist Grutle Kjellson of the Norwegian progressive extreme metal band ENSLAVED offer insight on the tracks to their twelfth studio album, RIITIIR, due out in Europe on September 28th and in North America on October 9th.

Bjørnson on RIITIIR Track #7, “Storm Of Memories”:

“Alright, much like ENSLAVED’s career, this song could be described with the sports term ‘a working victory’ (it might surprise some that we didn’t get where we are just because of our strikingly good looks and a talented costume designer). It was the first song to be written for this album but the last one to fall into place completely. Obviously, I’m talking about the first section of the song – the second half is more ‘normal ENSLAVED’ (okay, that is funny) and it more or less worked itself out during the rehearsal sessions. On the other hand, I wasn’t completely getting the right atmosphere from the first rounds of the band adding their instruments in the studio on the first part: the demos from the previous year still had more of a ‘vibe’ to them than we were getting in the studio. Luckily, co-producer Iver [Sandøy] had an equally wholehearted belief in the song and really dived into the task of getting the best out of the song. His ideas – for the arpeggio that Herbrand [Larsen, keyboard player & clean vocalist] wrote out on his keys, along with his ideas for percussion and some effects – became the spark that ignited the song in the end, which turned out to be one of the best we’ve done! The last pieces were the somewhat disturbing chanting by yours truly and of course Jens Bogren’s perfect mix. Obviously, he’s done a fantastic job on the entire album, but I feel the need to point out how integral he is particularly on this (working victory of a) song. Lyrically, we might be looking at some weird mix of a literal interpretation of the title and the inner/physical workings of the rituals and/or mental processes (depending on whether you’re wearing a wizard’s hat or a lab coat) intended to cause willed change on either or both sides of the ‘reality border.’ This is the song where abstracts and concretes meet in the hope of conjuring up a storm…”

Kjellson on “Storm Of Memories”:

“This song sounds like the title strongly indicates: a storm of memories! Intense like a storm from within. This was the first song Ivar wrote for the album, actually just a few months after the release of the Axioma album. The funny thing is that where the first song written for a new album tends to sound like the previous album, this one doesn’t! In fact, this one does not sound like either Axioma or Riitiir. This song is something like a deserted island in the ENSLAVED ocean (okay, that sounds cheesy). Anyway, this is (at least the opening) the closest we will ever get sounding like a Krautrock-band! Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but it´s kind of special since none of us have been digging particularly deep in Amon Düül or early Kraftwerk. The direction of this song, particularly in the mixing session, is perhaps the biggest debate we’ve ever had on the production side in the band. We are a bunch of nerds that live and breathe for the art of making music and we shared the production between four different minds (Bjørnson, Kjellson, Larsen & Sandøy) with four different ways of approaching music. So, some arguments (very healthy in a retrospective aspect) occurred. But, all of us ended up thinking this was a very refreshing yet different song. This process opened up the eyes for all of us on the production team and this collaboration is something I will always remember and be deadly proud of.”
