Glorious Times

Glorious Times

Glorious Times revised edition now in print!

After MUCH tenuous effort, we are extremely proud to announce that our revised and extended edition of ‘Glorious Times’ is AVAILABLE NOW!

This is not a history book, not a book like any other music book. These are the memories from those involved in the early days of the scene in their own words. The memories THEY chose to tell.

Bigger and better than before! 160 pages of massively rare and mostly unseen photographs, tied together with sentiment and reflections from the very people who lived the era – the GLORIOUS TIMES. We refused to conform to the publishers who wanted every band’s story (written in THEIR words) rewritten by a third party. We refused to take out our rare pics and insert promo line-up shots as the publishers wanted. Instead we sought out other photographers from the old days and found even more never before seen pictures. At the same time we also sought out a few more bands to make this version even better. We now have added 11 bands with stories from such legends as Ron Sumners (Slaughter), Scott Peterson (Cryptic Slaughter), Eric Meyer and Jim Durkin (Dark Angel), Joe Caper (Righteous Pigs), Brian Lehfeldt and Shann Mortimer (Wehrmacht), Ross Dolan (Immolation) and also Rob Urbinati and Scott Watts (Sacrifice) among others. Included too are pictures from the personal collections of Ron Sumners, Scott Peterson, Brian Lehfeldt, Ross Dolan and a bunch of others.

In addition to the new bands every old layout has been redone using industry standard software and formats so this time there are no skewed pics, no typos, etc. Many of the original layouts that were redone also include additional never before seen pictures. The Hellwitch section also includes a new story from Jim Nickles and the Unseen Terror section includes a new story from Mick Harris.

Bands featured : Acheron, Autopsy, Baphomet, Brutality, Cannibal Corpse, Cryptic Slaughter, Dark Angel, Death, Deceased, Deicide, Derketa, Disharmonic Orchestra, Exmortis, Groovy Aardvark, Hellwitch, Hideous Mangleus, Immolation, Impetigo, Incantation, Incubus, Insanity, Lethal Aggression, Malevolent Creation, Massacre,Massappeal, Master, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Nocturnus, Nokturnel,Nuclear Death, Overthrow, Paineater, Possessed, Prime Evil, Revenant, Righteous Pigs, Ripping Corpse, Sacrifice, Sepultura, Slaughter, Soothsayer,Terrorain, Tirant Sin, Unseen Terror, Vomit, Wehrmacht and Where’s ThePope?

Deadlock - Bizarro World

Deadlock - Bizarro World

New full-length to hit stores this March on Lifeforce Records

GERMANY – Germany’s melodic heavy metal outfit, Deadlock, has revealed the track list and cover art for the forthcoming full-length, Bizarro World. The veteran metal act’s fifth studio album, and fourth Lifeforce Records release, will hit stores on March 15th.

The track list for Bizarro World is…

1. Virus Jones

2. State Of Decay

3. Falling Skywards

4. Earthlings

5. You Left Me Dead

6. Brutal Romance

7. Alienation

8. Renegade

9. Htrae

10. Bizarro World

11. Paranoia Extravaganza

Bizarro World was produced by Deadlock guitarist, Sebastian Reichl, at Slaughter’s Palace studios this fall.

The limited edition (digipak) and digital version of the album will contain two remixes as bonus tracks.

On Bizarro World, Deadlock has designed an interpretation of a world built up on extremes and antitheses. The album is based on the concept of “Bizarro”, which originated in DC Comics in the early 1960s, and represents a weirdly mutilated version of anything. However, contrary to the concept of a world stigmatizing perfection, sonically, Bizarro World strives for the opposite.

Deadlock’s sound can be described as a combination of opposed elements, such as sharp guitar-assaults, pop and dance quotations, orchestral profundity, gruffly growls, and beautiful clean vocals. With Bizarro World, the band seeks to improve on what they already did so well in the past, while and offering a wider, self-assured view on symphonic and brutal metal, based on a progressive approach.

Over their previous Lifeforce offerings, Earth.Revolt (2005), Wolves (2007) and Manifesto (2008), Deadlock has accentuated the signature of their metal sound, which hovers somewhere in between beauty and darkness, with increasing relevance. The band has toured in support of such accredited acts as Lacuna Coil, All That Remains, Sonic Syndicate, Dark Tranquillity, Caliban, and Heaven Shall Burn within the past two years.

Stay tuned for more information on Deadlock and Bizarro World.

Deadlock is…

Johannes Prem – vocals

Sabine Weniger – vocals

Sebastian Reichl – guitar, keyboards

Gert Rymen – guitar

John Gahlert – bass

Tobias Graf – drums

HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS in conjunction with APOCH’S METAL REVIEW are pleased to offer an exclusive stream of VOLTURE’s Shocking Its Prey, the six track debut which will be unleashed worldwide on CD January 25th 2011 and on limited edition Mini-LP February 15th.

Listen to the full exclusive stream of VOLTURE Shocking It’s Prey here:

With the humblest beginnings the seeds for VOLTURE were first laid in November 2008. Inspired by a mutual interest in obscure NWOBHM and early European heavy metal VOLTURE was born when friends Ryan Waste (of MUNICIPAL WASTE) and Nick Poulos over a few beers agreed to channel those mutual interests into a fully realized project. With Ryan and Nick, respectively, on bass and guitar they were soon joined by vocalist Brent Hubbard and drummer Barry Cover, who had previously worked with Ryan in 2003 in a band called IMMORTAL AVENGER. Throughout 2009, a demanding tour schedule with their other bands left the members of VOLTURE with minimal time to practice. In January 2010 the four piece entered a small studio in Ryan’s neighborhood to lay down the tracks for Shocking Its Prey, sans any modern studio trickery solely relying on capturing VOLTURE’s natural ability to unleash raw, unedited heavy metal fury.

Upon putting the finishing touches on Shocking Its Prey, VOLTURE welcomed to its ranks guitarist Dave Boyd, known for his work with heavy metal stalwarts TWISTED TOWER DIRE. With the line up in place and forthcoming mini lp, work on creating its own iconography begun by envisioning VOLTURE as an electric bird made of steel, shocking its prey to an untimely demise came into focus.  This vision was brought to life by artist Sean McGrath and perfected in paint by the great Andrei Bouzikov, all under the direction of Ryan. With all of the creative pieces in place VOLTURE came to the attention of New York’s purveyors of steel, HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS, whom will release Shocking Its Prey in all of its glory world wide on January 25th, 2011.

With tour plans and a full length album on the horizon, the future is bright for VOLTURE as they shock the music world back to life with their brand of true heavy metal!

NYC sucks Vol1

NYC sucks Vol1

NYC’s metal scene is literally exploding at the seams. There are so many great local bands playing shows on a regular basis that on any given night you’ve got to make some pretty hard choices about where to get your headbang on. We try and highlight some of our favorite local bands on MetalSucks from time to time, but frankly it’s just not possible to keep up; seemingly every month there’s another fantastic band that’s as good or better than any number of “signed” acts from around the U.S. or the world, only they’re not that well-known outside of our city’s borders.

That’s something we hope to change with our brand new compilation, NYC Sucks. Volume 1, containing 14 songs by as many bands, will be released on January 18th, and Volume 2, containing 13, will be released on February 22nd. We’ve included a few smaller signed bands that we feel are an integral part of the scene, but for the most part all the acts on these compilations are not signed. Both compilations will be available for download right here on MetalSucks, will contain high-quality 320kbps MP3s, and will include a PDF of digital liner notes with information about all the bands. And because the whole point of this thing is to spread the word of all the great bands we have around here, both volumes will be available completely for free. Send ‘em to your friends, put them up on torrent sites, submit them to .rar Mediafire blogs… just spread the friggin’ music by any means necessary.

Volume 1: (Jan 18)
1. East of the Wall
2. Made out of Babies
3. Tiger Flowers
4. Black Anvil
5. Naam
6. Batillus
7. Meek is Murder
8. The Binary Code
9. Castevet
10. Hung
11. Wizardry
12. Pyrrhon
13. Mutant Supremacy
14. Incendiary

Volume 2: (Feb 22)
1. Wetnurse
2. Tombs
3. Moth Eater
4. Hull
5. The Austerity Program
6. Defeatist
7. Goes Cube
8. Krallice
9. Empyreon
10. Abacinate
11. ikillya
12. Atakke
13. The Ghost in Black and White

The covers were designed by the very talented Jesse Zuretti.

Cradle Of Filth – Dani Filth answers fans questions plus Paul Allender chats live online

Cradle of Filth reveals artwork for 'Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa'

Cradle of Filth - 'Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa'

Following the release of their new album Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, Cradle Of Filth are currently on tour in South America playing dates in Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. Before they set off Dani Filth was filmed answering some of the questions that were sent in by fans to Peaceville last month. The answers were split into two parts and both are now available on the album’s mini-site.

In addition to this Paul Allender from the band will be available for another live web chat at 8pm (UK time) on 23rd December after they return from the tour. The band are back on tour in the New Year with dates in El Salvador and Mexico followed by a full tour of the US and Canada (full details here).

The live web chat with Paul will stream on the Peaceville Records Livestream channel ( and fans will be able to submit questions using their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

This is the second in a series of chats that Paul will be participating in. The first, which took place last month, lasted for almost two hours and topics of conversation included everything from the band’s plans, the album’s recording process and the guitar he uses to his favourite movies, other bands he admires and his tattoos.

Metal Hammer have described Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa as:

“Yet another sumptuous and spectacular eruption of gothic melodrama, perverted sonic schlock and balls-out extreme metal bombast… a dazzling and dastardly display of destructive devilry.”

And Rocksound have stated that the album has:

“a masterful control over the multi-faceted Cradle of Filth sound; brutal vocal gymnastics, skull-rattling double-kicks, symphonic flourishes, dramatic narrative and balls-out axe-slinging all make their presence known, but in a manner which routinely serves to bolster the coherency of the greater whole…this fucking slays.” 9/10

MASSIVE SLAVERY "Global Enslavement"

MAPLE METAL RECORDS are proud to release the Official Video to MASSIVE SLAVERY’s breakthrough track in “Humanity’s Last Hope”; taken from their debut album Global Enslavement, released last summer.

The video was lensed in their hometown of Rouyn-Noranda in Northern Quebec by Chad Archibald and Philip Carrer of Black Fawn Films, Cambridge (Canada). Black Fawn Films are responsible for the most recent Blue Felix and Baptized In Blood videos.

Jon ‘The Prof’, frontman for MASSIVE SLAVERY recounts the day of the shoot: “It was just an insane experience, even if I nearly killed myself on the first scene, hahaha. ( I fell from a rock cliff on a pile of big rocks right on my back and arm). I still have bruises from it, but when I see this video produced by Chad it was definitely worth it!”

Former ACCEPT and current U.D.O. frontman Udo Dirkschneider recently recorded a Christmas song for the biggest European music and merchandise mailorder company EMP. Laid down at DocMaKlang studio in Osnabrück, Germany, the track “Jingle Balls” was written by various staff members of EMP and is a new interpretation of the Christmas song “Jingle Bells” and the ACCEPT anthem “Balls To The Wall”.

“Jingle Balls” has now been released under the band name EVIL DISPOSITION and is available from Musicload and Amazon. All proceeds will be donated to PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals).

U.D.O. will partner with EMP for a special promotion surrounding the release of the band’s next album, “Rev-Raptor”, which is tentatively due in May 2011. This special collaboration will consist of a countdown on EMP’s web site an entire week before the CD’s release, including a message from Udo and advance snippets of each of the songs from the new album.

The release date of “Rev-Raptor” was pushed back by a few months as a result of back problems experienced by guitarist Stefan Kaufmann, the same issue that forced him to quit playing drums for ACCEPT back in the day. Stefan recently received medical treatment for this condition and had recovered enough to have played with the band on November 6 at the Rock Antenne festival at Schwabenhalle in Augsburg.

As previously reported, 17 new songs were written for “Rev-Raptor”, with 11 of them set to appear on the final product.

U.D.O.’s last album, “Dominator”, entered the official chart in Germany at position No. 27. This marked the highest German chart entry in U.D.O.’s history.
