HEADBANGERS OPEN AIR 2005

Again the worlds biggest garden party for Metal was at hand! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: this is one of the greatest Metal events EVER! And in case you are wondering: the other is Keep It True. It had been a dry spell for concerts, so I was brimming with excitement when it finally came time to head towards the Hamburg area. After recalling how exhausted we both were last year, having made the approximately 7 hour drive up there and THEN going to the warm-up show, this year we opted to leave a day early to rest up from the tedious road trip. This proved to be a great idea and will be repeated when we go to next years H:O:A. When we arrived and packed away our stuff, we headed into Itzehoe to visit Hellion Records and make our first (but not last) CD haul of the weekend. It was a successful trip as both of us found some cool stuff, which was later blasted in our hotel room (quite possibly to the dismay of other guests) to get into the mood for the next day’s warm-up.

Watch Them Die – Vocalist Pat Vigil

November 22nd, 2005
by Lord of the Wasteland

Interview With Vocalist Pat Vigil

Interview By Lord of The Wasteland

All photos courtesy of Century Media Records and Watch Them Die

Watch Them Die’s new CD, BASTARD SON, hit me like a ton of bricks upon first listen.  Not only is the Oakland-based band pulverizing in its intensity and outright brutality, but the thrash-influenced riffs of Greg Valencia and ferocious vocals of Pat Vigil tore me a new one.  With every other new CD released these days seeming to be a metalcore hackfest, it was refreshing to hear an American band flip off the norm and go right for the jugular.

Pat Vigil took the time to answer a few questions about the new album, their just-completed tour with Exodus and 3 Inches of Blood, being on the road with GWAR and how the combination of Black Metal, punk, hardcore and Bay Area thrash bands shaped the ass-kicking sound of Watch Them Die…

Candlemass / Destruction : The 14th of November 2005 Helsinki Finland

CANDLEMASS / DESTRUCTION
(DeathChain and After All)
The 14th Of November 2005
Nosturi, Helsinki
Finland

Pics and review by Arto Lehtinen

What a real old school metal line up indeed, featuring the legends of two separate metal genres namely Destruction and Candlemass. Frankly it was utterly amazing to have that kind of line up booked here in Finland even for two gigs. But once again some unexpected problems came out of the blue due to the gods of weather.

Bobnoxious!
Interview with Bob J. Reid
By Celtic Bob

Bobnoxious is the brainchild of Bob J. Reid (Razor, S.F.H.). Hailing out of London Ontario this 4 piece unit is about to take the music industry by storm with their energetic live shows and killer debut. I had a chance to ask band founder Bob a few questions recently about the future of Bobnoxious as well as his previous bands.

Gemini Five is a Swedish glam/sleaze act that released their second album BLACK ANTHEM just a few weeks ago. I hooked up with lead singer Tin Star and asked him to tell us a bit about the band. The band was interviewed a couple of months ago but here comes a more in-depth update about the guys.

Russell Allen of Allen/Lande

RUSSELL ALLEN

Here is a short interview that I’ve done with Russell Allen. He, together with Jorn Lande, has recently released the album THE BATTLE on Frontiers Records and I was interested in what two singers of such an excellent caliber had to offer the listener. So here’s what Russell had to say about the album and he was also kind enough to reveal what he’s up to in the near future.

Interviewed by: Anders Sandvall

Big thanks to Stefan at Atenzia for arranging the interview.

Also great thanks to Frontiers for lending pictures to me.

Judas Priest w/ Anthrax : 10/28/05 Konocti Harbor California

Judas Priest
with Anthrax
Konocti Harbor California 10/28/05

Pics and review by Swissman

I was very excited to see what I call the “oldschool” lineups of Anthrax and Priest. Due to the rain we left around 11:30 AM because yahoo maps told us that it would take at least 2 1/2 hours to drive up through the wine country and the windy hills. We got there after almost 3 1/2 hours due to the fact that there was traffic and we took a wrong turn, almost like straight out of the movie Deliverance.

Another business trip seemed to have worked out quite well. I was sent to Portland to work on some stuff. I called my friend Pest who immediately told me that Exodus was going to be in town that night and that we should go and see them. Of course I totally agreed..

Dream Theater in Helsinki

November 5th, 2005
by Marko Syrjala

27.9 2005

Live at Ice Hall, HELSINKI

I don’t know if it’ s something to do with the recent revival of older metal/hard rock on the scene – initiated by the likes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Mötley Crue but it seems that metal is more popular than ever. Almost every concert in Finland is selling pretty well and tonight Dream Theater had the sold-out crowd head banging in wild abandon for the duration of their two-and-a-half-hour set.  It’s quite impressive when we talk about a band which plays heavy, complexed and hard-driving hybrid of metal and progressive rock.
