Here is an interview with the experienced and legendary multi-instrumentalist Chris Laney. I have followed both Zan Clan, where Laney plays guitar, and Randy Piper’s Animal, where he also plays guitar, with great interest. When the opportunity for an interview came I took the chance to speak to Laney who’s also a well renowned producer and songwriter.

PAIN

Written by Simon Lukic
Transcribed by Mike ‘Fucking Hostile’ Holmes

Peter Tägtgren is a well known figure amongst Metal circles. From his work as a producer and his many releases with Hypocrisy, without forgetting Bloodbath, Lock Up, The Abyss and War amongst others, one can say that he is certainly a busy man. Peter’s “other” musical outlet – Pain has recently released a new disc titled PSALMS OF EXTINCTION – their fifth overall and first for Roadrunner Records. Peter and I spoke about a number of things from songwriting to producing and in between.

Dimmu Borgir Interview with Silenoz

By Simon Lukic
Transcribed by Mike ‘Fucking Hostile’ Holmes
Live pics by Hanntu

Love them or hate them Dimmu Borgir is quite the success story. From their early days as a fledging Black Metal act to the orchestrated tones of DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON, there’s no denying their place at the top of the funeral pyre. The new album IN SORTE DIABOLI continues Dimmu Borgir’s march forward – an ascension that is sure to continue unabated. Guitarist and founding member Silenoz and I had a bit of chat recently and here a few of the things we covered.

Joe Lynn Turner: solo artist, Brazen Abbot, ex- Rainbow, ex- Deep Purple, etc…

October 15th, 2007
by Marko Syrjala

JOE LYNN TURNER

Joe Lynn Turner’s recording career, spanning three full decades, is too impressive to be described in just a few sentences. He will, however, forever be first and foremost recognized as the man responsible for leading the legendary hard rock band Rainbow to it’s greatest commercial heights. Taking over the reigns from Graham Bonnet, who had only endured one album in the giant shoes left by Ronnie James Dio, Joe recorded three classic albums, DIFFICULT TO CURE in 1981, STRAIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES in 1982 and BENT OUT OF SHAPE in 1983. Before reuniting with Mr. Blackmore once again, this time at the helm of Deep Purple to record the SLAVES AND MASTERS album in 1989, Joe helped Yngwie Malmsteen craft his arguably best work to date, the ODYSSEY in 1988.Through the years Joe Lynn Turner has also released numerous well received solo albums and worked with many great bands such as Mother’s Army. In the past decade he has, among other things, worked with Nikolo Kotzev on five albums, Brazen Abbot’s EYE OF STORM in 1996, BAD RELIGION in 1997, GUILTY AS SIN in 2003 and MY RESURRECTION in 2005 as well as Nikolo Kotzev’s double album NOSTRADAMUS in 2001. He’s also released and toured several albums with fellow Deep Purple alumni Glenn Hughes. We hope that you enjoy this look into Joe’s career, past, present and future!

Anyone even remotely familiar with the metal scene knows who Michael Amott is.  With the recent announcement of a long-awaited Carcass reunion and the increasing popularity of his main band Arch Enemy, Mike is a busy man.  Fortunately I was able to speak with him during his current North American tour and get his thoughts on everything.

Lord – Andrew Dowling
Interviewed by Simon Lukic
Transcription by Mike ‘Fucking Hostile’ Holmes< ?xml:namespace prefix = o />

LORD is the next stage in the evolution of one of Australia’s premier Metal exports, Dungeon. After 16 years and 6 full length albums founding member Lord Tim made the unexpected decision to lay Dungeon to rest and resurrect his vision (as well as continue his musical legacy) under the band name LORD. Here I interview bassist Andrew Dowling and we begin by discussing the creation of the new album – the very impressive ASCENDENCE.

Celtic Frost. The name alone demands respect and it’s exactly that which has allowed the band the opportunity to resurrect themselves in such a glorious manner. MONOTHEIST may not be the album everyone was hoping for but when one looks at the history of the band it fits in perfectly with their adventurous nature and honest approach. I had the pleasure of chatting to Tom Gabriel Fischer near the end of the MONOTHEIST world tour and here is what we discussed.

by EvilG

Interviewed by Simon Lukic
Transcription by Mike ‘Fucking Hostile’ Holmes< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Age Of Evil will be a new name for many of you, but this anonymity will soon be a thing of the past. Based in the United Sates, Age Of Evil are a four piece that is comprised of two sets of brothers, with the youngest a mere 15 years old. Far from a gimmick the members of Age Of Evil are accomplished players if their debut album LIVING A SICK DREAM is anything to go by. With an opening slot at the Bang Your Head Festival!!! (they have been asked to play again next year) a guest performance from Marty Friedman and industry assistance from Tom Gattis, Age Of Evil are certainly going about things in the right away. The entire band contributed to this interview so let’s gets things started with Garrett Ziff, the band’s drummer.

Frankie Banali of Quiet Riot, ex-W.A.S.P

October 10th, 2007
by Marko Syrjala

FRANKIE BANALI

Frankie Banali is a legendary drummer who is best known for his work with Quiet Riot and W.A.S.P. Frankie joined Quiet Riot in 1983 prior to the band releasing their smash album METAL HEALTH. The album stormed up the U.S. charts; it even reached the number one spot and went platinum five times over in the process. It is worth a mention that Quiet Riot were the first heavy metal band to top the U.S charts. Unfortunately thier following albums CONDITION CRITICAL and QRIII didn’t reach the success of METAL HEALTH.  With the lack of success and several line -up changes the band slowly disbanded in 1988. Frankie started to work with W.A.S.P. HEADLESS CHILDREN was released in late 1988 and it was a big success. Frankie did a world tour with W.A.S.P and later on he worked on numerous W.A.S.P albums including CRIMSON IDOL which was another milestone in W.A.S.P’s career. Quiet Riot was reformed in 1993 and after several discussions Frankie decided to rejoin his old mates. Since re -joining Frankie has been the driving force behind Quiet Riot. The band released their latest album "Rehab" in 2006 and now in 2007 they finally arrived here in Scandinavia, for the very first time in their career. At the Swedenrock festival I managed to sit down with Frankie himself to talk about the long history of Quiet Riot, his involvements with W.A.S.P, his work with Glenn Hughes and various other interesting topics…

Wacken 2007

October 9th, 2007
by Arto Lehtinen

Wacken Open Air 2007

Wacken is a blessed mecca of the whole metal world. Again this year it was entirely sold out when ten thousands of metal manics travelled from all around the world to gather and witness plenty of ass kicking bands. The weather forecast for Wacken didn’t look that promising. The chaotic and muddy mess caused by long and heavy rains rampaged the ground during the whole summer. The  festival often provides a survival test to every visitor with its mud and crap. But but gods of metal had seen the light and blessed the whole three day metal inferno with tremendous extreme heat and a sunny weekend. Things could not be better…sun, metal and beer. That combination is nothing but an utter perfect way to enjoy the metallic mayhem at Wacken.

As usual, the true metal commando team from Metal-Rules.Com was there again witnessing a helluva lot of great bands and above all an unexpected huge fire in the main area. Feel, see and enjoy this article.
