BORN OF OSIRIS Prepare For North American Tour With All That Remains, Check In With Detailed Studio Report and Post New Websiode Series Online

October 14th, 2010
by EvilG

BORN OF OSIRIS are mature well beyond their years and this dynamic extreme progressive juggernaut has now perfectly honed all of their collective talents to create what will soon be a pinnacle release for the metal genre. This ground-breaking six-piece group creates an epic mix of intricate and memorable melodies with challenging time signatures that still hold an infectious groove, all while maintaining sheer, tasteful brutality. Their much anticipated third full-length album, set for an early 2011 release, is going to serve the scene the much needed wake-up call it so much needs.

BORN OF OSIRIS will take a break from the recording process to join All That Remains and labelmates Asking Alexandria for a North American run, which all kicks off for them on Oct. 19th. Either see below or visit to view their complete touring itinerary. Also, be sure to check out the MySpace page for their new webisode series providing an in-depth look into the current recording process. You don’t want to miss out on this.

Lee McKinney (guitars) states: “As for the new album, I should start by saying it’s WAY heavier than anything the band ever released. There is definitely nothing we’ve done that’s anywhere near this heavy. We have moved onto seven strings and it couldn’t have complimented our sound any better. We brought back the ‘BOO-bounce’ on this one. It’s definitely a really fun and upbeat album. We’ve also been writing this album for a long time. We had 16 to 18 songs going into the studio and we are going to be leaving with 12 songs that we feel are the strongest. We all live in a house together and that has really upped the creativity level. We go from on tour to living at home together, so we are all focusing on the band constantly. Also, the addition of our new guitar player Jason Richardson has increased the amount of shred on this album. There are some really incredible guitar solos on this album from the both of us. It takes the band to a whole new level of musicality. This album contains an awesome mix of our most heavy, most technical, most atmospheric and most beautiful melodies ever. No matter what album you’ve liked better of ours so far, this one tops both easily. We are producing this album at Bota Studio outside of Chicago, IL. Brandon Paddock (John Feldman’s engineer) will be taking up mixing duties on this one.

“As for the tour, this will be the last time we are going to be playing so much of The New Reign and A Higher Place. Starting next year we are going to be playing as much of this new album as we can. We will definitely be playing a new song live on this tour. We just wish we would have had the chance to release it to everyone before we start playing it every night. Aside from us, All That Remains is a great band and label mates Asking Alexandria will be joining us on the tour, so come on out and hang with us. It’s going to be a night to remember, we promise.”

MELECHESH: Track by Track Commentary Part 1

October 14th, 2010
by EvilG

Guitarist/vocalist Ashmedi of Mesopotamian blackened thrash pioneers MELECHESH, has issued the first of several track by track explanations of songs from their forthcoming album. The Epigenesis will be released on October 1st in Europe and on October 26th in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.

1. Ghouls Of Nineveh

“This song is a statement on how one riff can be effective and devastating!  It is very powerful and live it is neck breaking. The song itself revolved around a singular riff, very non cliché to extreme metal. Some people expected a conformist start for the album, i.e. a faster song and we rejected the idea. This song sets the mood for a multi faceted album. This song is almost like a hymn. ‘Ghouls of Nineveh’ revolves around Assyrian/Mesopotamian deities, who are the Annunaki. Some of the brass bells you hear are a result of a pestle and mortar I found in my childhood house in Jerusalem when I went for a visit. The brass pestle and mortar was in my house as far as I can recall, yet this time when I was there in 2009,  I experimented with it and the sound was bright. Better than any bell I know of. So I confiscated it and used it on the album as a percussive instrument! The final guitar lead was improvised on the spot and the piano cosmetic lead was split between Reuben the engineer and myself. This Fazioli Grand piano cost as much as a house in some parts of the USA ($120,000), so I was slightly careful with it!”
2. Grand Gathas of Baal Sin

“Gathas are the sacred writings of Zarathustra. However I liked to integrate themes and made Gathas for Lord Sin (Baal is not only a deity but actually the word means Lord). Sin is the name of the Mesopotamian moon deity so it is a play on words. Musically this song is meant to resemble a stampede or a whirlwind of chaos with frantic riffing tones, which breaks with epic middle eastern scaling and beats. The drum toms on this song represent war drums or ritualistic drums. With the set of right speakers the drum toms are explosive and bombastic. The group Chanting ‘Sin Baal Sin Baal’ remind me with Sufi rituals. There is a little part in the end like a jam with non distorted guitars. This was purely by chance the tape was rolling and I could only hear drum tracks so I jammed on the drums on a couple of channels. Eventually we thought ok lets use it. The very final note on the song is the Persian Santur.”

TRIPTYKON – Tom Gabriel Warrior Checks In From The Road

October 14th, 2010
by EvilG

Current TRIPTYKON and former HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST singer, guitarist, and main songwriter Tom Gabriel Warrior has posted the following message on his official blog:

“On tour again in North America… In April of 2008, when I departed CELTIC FROST and began to lay the foundation for TRIPTYKON, this was but a mere intention, the fulfillment of which was anything but certain. The utter dedication of the audiences we are playing to here, their loyalty, and their feedback thus means even more to me that it ordinarily would.

“On October 10, in Montreal, I was finally able to witness an entire concert by our esteemed special guests on this tour, YAKUZA. I had previously only seen a couple of songs or so each night. In my eyes, they are truly extraordinary, both on a personal level as well as musically. Their songs are full of emotions, variety, energy, beauty, and agitation. Their performance requires perhaps a tad more open-mindedness than must ordinarily be mustered, but they are one of the rare contemporary heavy rock acts with the courage to pursue their own, very unique path. Even that fact alone commands respect and makes them as perfect for a tour with TRIPTYKON as they would have been in a pairing with CELTIC FROST. We in TRIPTYKON have all become fans.

“The combination of the three bands on this tour, 1349, YAKUZA, and TRIPTYKON, could not be any more unique and, in my humble (and biased) opinion, effective. It is a tour unlike any other.”

TRIPTYKON will follow its highly acclaimed debut album, “Eparistera Daimones”, with the release of “Shatter”, an all-new five-track EP, on October 25 (Europe) and October 26 (North America).

At a playing time of approximately 28 minutes, “Shatter” will consist almost entirely of previously unreleased music.

The EP’s track listing is as follows:

01. Shatter

02. I Am The Twilight

03. Crucifixus

(Recorded during the “Eparistera Daimones” album sessions in 2009. “Crucifixus” appears in a newly mixed and mastered version.)

04. Circle Of The Tyrants (live)

05. Dethroned Emperor (live)

(Cover versions of CELTIC FROST songs, recorded live during TRIPTYKON’s headliner performance at the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, The Netherlands, on April 16, 2010. “Dethroned Emperor” features guest lead vocals by Nocturno Culto of DARKTHRONE/SARKE.)

TRIPTYKON’s “Shatter” EP will be available through Century Media Records (under license from Prowling Death Records Ltd.) as CD, digital download, and 12″ vinyl (at 33 rpm). The EP will further contain the lyrics to all songs as well as detailed liner notes and credits.

TRIPTYKON consists of V. Santura (guitar, vocals), Norman Lonhard (drums, percussion), Vanja Slajh (bass), and Tom Gabriel Warrior (voice, guitars). The group has unambiguously stated that it pursues the continuation and further development of the path Warrior began in HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST.

PAUL GILBERT To Warm Up For European Tour With Show In Hollywood

October 14th, 2010
by EvilG
Paul Gilbert - Live

Paul Gilbert - Live

Guitarist extraordinaire Paul Gilbert (MR. BIG, RACER X) will play a warm-up show for his European tour on Monday, November 1 at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, California. Gilbert will debut a brand new set featuring material from his third instrumental album, “Fuzz Universe”.

Gilbert’s “Fuzz Universe” European tour which kicks off on November 5 in London, England.

“Fuzz Universe” came out on August 3 via Shrapnel Records.

“Being a fan of pop music and rock bands, I am a reluctant convert into the art of instrumental rock music,” explains Gilbert. “But after touring with Joe Satriani’s G3, I witnessed firsthand the power of the electric guitar to take center stage and rock the audience. Playing my guitar-driven songs live was a blast! This discovery led to a huge increase in my touring as a solo artist. In the last couple of years, I’ve played nearly 150 shows all over the world, with my guitar leading the way.”

The “Fuzz Universe” title is inspired by Gilbert being so immersed in the world of guitar that it made him realize that he lives in a “fuzz universe.”

“Every generation of guitar players has their own terminology for the rock guitar sound: distortion, overdrive, gain, crunch, saturation, drive, etc.” Gilbert explains. “For me, the word is ‘fuzz.'”

Regarding the musical direction of the new CD, Gilbert states, “On ‘Fuzz Universe’, I think I’ve taken a giant step closer to the ultimate rock guitar sound and playing of my dreams. I’ve used many of my signature techniques from RACER X and MR. BIG, but twisted them into new chords, grooves, and emotions.

“As always, my influences are diverse and not what you might expect from a ‘heavy metal’ artist.

“While I was writing the songs for ‘Fuzz Universe’, I was immersing myself in Bulgarian female choir music, baroque lute and violin pieces, Johnny Cash songs about trains, cows, mules, and mining coal, the BEE GEES, and Ronnie James Dio. I mix all this into my head, and out came endless new ideas for my guitar to chew on.

“After several months of being locked in my writing room, I gathered my touring band together and headed to the studio. Jeff Bowders played drums. Craig Martini played bass. Emi Gilbert (my wife) played keyboards. And I bent the guitar strings until I couldn’t play anymore.

“As usual, there are no dramatic stories here. No heroin overdoses, motorcycle accidents, celebrity divorces, or bandmember boxing matches. The emotion, drama, and power are all in the music. That is the universe that I want to live in.”

Paul Gilbert is regarded internationally as one of the greatest players in the industry. Having started his recording career with Shrapnel Records as a teenager in the late ’80s, he remains one of the most active guitarists from the original shred guitar scene. His rise to platinum success includes a No. 1 song with MR. BIG, and cult status as founding member of the legendary and highly successful underground shred  metal band RACER X.

The exclusive re-issue of two albums by One Man Army and the Undead Quartet

October 14th, 2010
by EvilG

With a name like One Man Army and the Undead Quartet you shouldn’t expect anything less than pure sonic Armageddon and this is exactly what this band delivers. Under the command of Johan Lindstrand (ex-vocalist of the legendary death metal act The Crown), this metal monstrosity proves that old-school thrash and melodic death metal can easily be combined into a perfect blend of sheer aggression and top notch musicianship. Metal Mind Productions presents the exclusive reissues of “21st Century Killing Machine” (2006) and “Error in Evolution” (2007) – the band’s first two LPs – which are all the proof you need to get sucked into the world of ultimate metal annihilation!

The group’s formation was a direct result of the disbandment of Lindstrand’s previous act – The Crown. The band’s debut demo entitled “When Hatred Comes To Life” was released in early 2005, granting Lindstrand’s and his crew a deal with Nuclear Blast Records. Under this flag the band recorded their stunning debut album called “21st Century Killing Machine”, which landed in stores on January 6th, 2006. The group’s debut offering proved to be a big success on the European metal scene, receiving great reviews and top scores in the press. The band soon found themselves on tour supporting Children of Bodom and later playing shows with such renown acts as Soilwork, Hypocrisy and Amorphis. They celebrated the end of the year with releasing the bizarre yet brilliant anti-Christmas single called “Christmas for the Lobotomizer”. The year 2007 brought One Man Army and The Undead Quartet’s second LP entitled “Error in Evolution” (the album was released on March 7th). This time it was more of a group effort rather than Lindstrand’s solo work. As he summed it up in an interview for “Now the band has been together for two years and everyone was involved in the songwriting process. We have much wider influences coming from all directions. The songs have more melody and catchiness.” Indeed, the material on “Error in Evolution” proved to be more melodic and experimental than that on the debut record. It also included a surprising cover of “He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)” by… Alice Cooper! The album was very well received by the fans, who strongly appreciated the group’s musical progress. “Error in Evolution” was promoted in Europe with an extensive tour alongside Gorefest. In 2008 One Man Army and the Undead Quartet returned with their third album called “Grim Tales”, released by Massacre Records.

“21st Century Killing Machine” and “Error in Evolution” will be available in new digipak editions, each limited to 2000 copies. Both albums include bonus tracks. The material was remastered using tube technology, digitally edited on a golden disc. Metal Mind Productions set up the release date for November, 22nd in Europe and January, 11th 2011 in USA (via MVD).

October 13th, 2010
by EvilG

Earlier this week, Montreal’s BLACKGUARD announced their pairing with VICTORY RECORDS.

The band has released this statement regarding the signing, the departure of a member, and their non-stop touring plans well into 2011.

We are very pleased to announce our signing to Victory Records!

At first (and second) glance this might seem like an odd pairing, but Victory is a very hard working label that we are all 100% behind. The Victory Staff has welcomed us with open arms and is committed to pushing our next release to its full potential. It’s no secret that we’ve been touring extensively this past year and a half, and it’s comforting to know we have a label backing us that is willing to work and put in as much effort as we have for the release of our 3rd record (2nd under the name BLACKGUARD).

That being said we are hard at work completing our next record which has a tentative release date for April . The release will coincide with a North American tour that isn’t announced yet, but when it does it’s going to turn heads.

Now for a bit of sad news…

For those of you who have seen us play recently with Leaves Eyes and on the Nevermore tour, you have no doubt noticed the absence of our Keyboardist Jo. We’re sad to say that Jo has officially left the band to pursue other endeavors.

There’s no drama here, and we’re all still good friends. Jo simply felt his time with the band had come to an end and we have amicably parted ways.

BLACKGUARD will remain a 5 piece for the foreseeable future.

We’re currently having a blast on the Nevermore tour! There have been some great shows and sharing the stage with so many great bands has been a pleasure thus far. Hatesphere , Warbringer and Nevermore are bringing it every night so this is not a tour you want to miss.

Our run on this tour goes all the way to Nov 5th so check our tour dates and come out.

After this we go right back at it again with our good friends EPICA, Scar Symmetry and The Agonist all the way to mid Dec.

Then we get to kick off the New Year with Deicide, Belphegor, Neuraxis and Pathology from Feburary 15th to March 10th.

Take care everyone, and we’ll see you on the road!

DAATH Prepare For Plethora of Worldwide Touring This Fall/Winter; New Album Set For Oct. 25th Release

October 13th, 2010
by EvilG

Extreme metal at its very best, plain and simple, is what the Atlanta based quintet DAATH delivers. The group’s highly anticipated third full-length release is going to be self-titled and is set for an Oct. 25th release through Century Media Records. The disc is a face-melting masterpiece that was co-produced by the renowned Mark Lewis (Trivium, Devildriver) and Eyal Levi (guitars). The group is now more determined, energized and focused than ever before and expanded upon their unique, uncompromising and dynamic sound. For those previously uninitiated, feel free to head over to to see what they are all about.

DAATH is currently preparing for a plethora of worldwide touring, which kicks off on Nov. 24th in North America as the group heads out on a trek with Chimaira and Impending Doom. This will lead them immediately into a lengthy European run with Fear Factory, so be sure to either see below or visit the band’s MySpace page to view their complete touring itinerary.

Levi states: “Last time we toured with Chimaira was the fall of 2009 in Europe. That tour was downright destructive. The only bummer was that we wished we could have toured together with Chimaira on American soil. Well here it is! The first tour supporting our upcoming album will be in North America with Chimaira and Impending Doom this November. All I can say past that is those of you who make it out will get to experience DAATH in a whole new way.

“This past summer we kept getting asked why we stayed in Europe for such a short time during the festival season. Our only answer was, ‘we’ll be back soon.’ Well, we’re very excited to announce that we are returning to Europe for our second time in 2010 with the legendary Fear Factory and the hypnotic High On Fire. The excitement to bring our European fans some new DAATH as part of such an incredible tour package is almost overwhelming. Europe, we will see you in December!”

Levi further comments: “Our third album is the most unrestrained and over the top collection of songs we’ve ever captured. We went in with the intent of creating a freak show of a record and we achieved it. People looking for a wrecking ball of an album will be happy. People looking for an album they’ll still hear new things in one year down the road will be happy. People going in with any preconceived notions of who we are and what we sound like are in for a surprise.”

A specially priced pre-order package featuring an exclusive shirt and new CD is available now at the link below for only $20, so click below to purchase now as this is a very limited offer.

Uniting the aggressiveness of classic American death metal with a modern metal twist, unrivaled musicianship and catchiness to equal parts, DAATH are well prepared to gather legions of new fans worldwide – with sharpened blades at hand this band is destined to become the genre’s most efficient sonic killing machine!

Queensryche’s EMPIRE: 11/9 release, new art, tour dates

October 13th, 2010
by EvilG

Deluxe 2CD and Digital Packages Feature Remastered Original Album Plus 13 Bonus Tracks, Including 10 Previously Unreleased Live Recordings

Hollywood, California – Queensrÿche has partnered with Capitol/EMI for the November 9 release of an expanded 20th Anniversary Edition of the band’s triple platinum-certified breakout album, Empire. The new 2-CD and digital packages both include the remastered album, featuring six hit singles, including the #1 smash “Silent Lucidity,” as well as 13 bonus tracks, among them 10 previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1990 at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. The 2-CD package is presented in a lift-top box with five postcards, a fold-out poster and a booklet featuring photos from the band’s personal archive.

After building a devoted fan base with album and EP releases throughout the 1980s, including 1988’s critically acclaimed Operation: Mindcrime, Queensrÿche broke into the mainstream across North America and abroad with the 1990 release of Empire.  In the U.S., the album peaked at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and its hit ballad “Silent Lucidity” quickly became a heavy rotation staple at rock radio and on MTV, topping Billboard’s Modern Rock singles chart and earning Queensrÿche the coveted MTV Viewers Choice Award for the song’s music video. Empire also made the U.K.’s Top 10, and the album’s international success led to Queensrÿche’s 18-month headlining “Building Empires” world tour, the band’s longest trek to date.

Empire also features the Billboard Top 10 Modern Rock hits “Jet City Woman” and “Another Rainy Night,” the Top 20 single, “Anybody Listening?,” and the Top 30 singles “Best I Can” and Empire.”  In addition to the aforementioned live recordings, Empire (20th Anniversary Edition)’s bonus tracks include “Last Time in Paris” from the Ford Forlaine soundtrack, “Dirty Lil’ Secret,” and the band’s cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Scarborough Fair.”

Since forming in Bellevue, Washington in 1981, Queensrÿche has sold more than twenty million albums around the world. For more information, visit Queensrÿche’s official web site:

Slayer - The Vinyl Conflict - Product Shot

Slayer - The Vinyl Conflict - Product Shot

This Thursday (10/14) at 3:30 PM ET Slayer guitarist Kerry King will be stopping by ESPN Sportsnation to chat with fans about his love of Raider Nation, his life in Slayer, and the recent release of the Vinyl Conflict box set. Fans can start submitting their questions for Kerry here:

For nearly 30 years, Slayer has been the single most distinctive and radical thrash metal band anywhere. Graphic lyrics, saturated in controversy and disturbing imagery…the frenzied guitar playing, powerful vocals, and unrelenting pounding drums at breakneck speed…the unparalleled concert performances…the shocking and blood-fueled albums all have kept their rabid, head-banging fans enthralled in mayhem.

For the first time in the band’s storied history, The Vinyl Conflict collects all 10 original Slayer albums from American Recordings and puts them together in this limited edition box set. Each album has been remastered from the original flat master tapes and is pressed on the highest quality 180-gram audiophile vinyl.  Also included are reproductions of the original LP artwork, including inner sleeve art, all in heavyweight, litho-wrapped chip jackets.  From 1986’s Reign In Blood to 1994’s Divine Intervention to 2009’s World Painted Blood, it’s all here, it’s all on vinyl and it’s all original Slayer.

MARDUK have been touring the globe in support of Wormwood, their eleventh studio album released last October via Regain Records. Wormwood found its way to  the top of year end lists both domestically and abroad and continues to reap praise among listeners nearly a year after its release . Decibel Magazine gave it a 9/10 review saying, “Wormwood…drives home grim nails of varying shapes and sizes – all black ones of course…repeated listens reveal deeper abysses.” Blabbermouth commended the band for, “…an atmosphere that continues to be cold and uncomfortably morose, made even more sinister by a bass tone that is not only thick and audible, but also value-additive,” while noted, “along with Mortuus’ obtuse lyrics and guttural, phlegmy vocals, MARDUK‘s surprisingly crafty compositions…and deft use of effects — as opposed to rote orchestration — give them an air of sophistication and guile you don’t often find in black metal.” Added Kerrang in a review of their New York City performance last year: “…grim as fuck, they knuckle down and pound out barrage after barrage of searing, slicing black metal evil…”
