NILE  –  Karl Sanders

Interviewed by Simon Lukic
Transcribed by Murphy

Nile has been turning heads for years now and is one of a few bands who have taken Death Metal into uncharted waters. Their latest effort ITHYPHALLIC will soon see a worldwide release in July and is sure to be another crushing affair – if the two new tracks aired during their last tour of Australia in May are anything to go by. The following interview was conducted with the ever accommodating Karl Sanders, one of the scenes most unassuming and talented musicians.

SWEDENROCK 6-9 June 2007

July 8th, 2007
by Arto Lehtinen

Article and pics by Arto Lehtinen and Marko Syrjälä

(Addiotional comments by J. Huovila – Thanks)

Wow! This is the seventh time that the Finnish Metal-Rules squad made an invasion to the mighty Swedenrock festival. Almost 70 bands descended upon the southern area of Sweden for a festival that turned out to be an utter blast from the beginning to the end! The bill of Swedenrock festival 2007 covers a wide range of metal styles and even classic rock stuff such as Kreator to Black Oak Arkansas and everything between. Therefore, there was at least something for everyone who attended the festival. As usual, the whole festival was once again sold out with around 30,000 people at the area every day. The Swedenrock festival has always had tremendous luck with the weather every year. Once again the gods of weather had given their blessing for this rocking metallic heaven on the earth with an extreme hot and sunny weekend that burned red the skin of several festival goers.

As written in the first sentence, this is already the seventh time that the Swedenrock festival has been featured in the site of Metal-Rules.com, so it is quite logical for us to give an in-depth article of several bands performing at Swedenrock. However we are not able to cover every band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading moment… Enjoy !!!

IMMORTAL – Demonaz

July 7th, 2007
by Metal Rules

IMMORTAL´s Demonaz talks about the band´s new coming…

Interview and live pictures by Luxi Lahtinen

Warriors from the icy kingdom of Blashyrkh, Immortal, have returned! They are stronger than ever before. The band decided to have a 4-year break starting in 2003 simply because the band felt they were loosing that important yet vital spark that kept Immortal´s heart pumping smoothly – and what´s most important, in a creative way.

With Abbath, Demonaz, Horgh and Apollyon in the Immortal line-up in 2007, the band is full of enthusiasm and passion and are once again ready to deliver their goods like when they started 17 years ago. The spirit of Immortal has been re-found and new material is in the works. This is something for every Immortal fan to look forward to for sure.

Immortal has a ´reunion´ tour going on called “Seven Dates of Blashyrkh” and the band stopped by the Finnish Tuska festival on June 29th for the very first time (that was also the very first time for Immortal to play in Finland). I managed to find one of the Immortal´s main song writers, Demonaz, from one cozy-looking hotel in the downdown of Helsinki a day before the show – and Demonaz was very eager and passionate to tell for the readers of Metal-Rules.com about all the recent updates from the Immortal camp as well as about his own solo project Perfect Visions that he´s working for with Abbath, Ice Dale and Armagedda – plus just much more.

So, Demonaz – as the fact is…

All pics from www.evergrey.net

It goes without saying that Evergrey are a unique band. Having formed in Sweden in 1996, the band has fascinated listeners with exceptional studio albums and an equally captivating stage show. The band is currently readying themselves for the release of their new album which should be in the hands of fans before Christmas. I had the opportunity to speak to vocalist/guitarist Tom S. Englund and he filled me in on a few things about the band’s songwriting process as well as eagerly awaited new album.

SAUNA OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL, TAMPERE, FINLAND 7. – 9.6.2007

July 4th, 2007
by Metal Rules

Report and pics by Luxi Lahtinen & Niko Karppinen

Sauna Open Air Metal Festival 2007 entertained approximately 22,000 metal warriors within 3 hot and sunny days. Almost 10,000 people appeared on Saturday, 8th of June, which was undoubtedly the biggest day of the festival thanks to both Dimmu Borgir´s and Type O Negative´s attendance. The Sauna Open Air Metal Festival opened its gates for metalheads for the 4th time in the whole history of this well-organized festival. The settings were probably the best so far for a great, all-aged, metallic event. At least the four main headlining acts that were booked to Sauna 2007 – Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Type O Negative and Heaven & Hell – placed four unbeatable aces on the table. It seemed that the impossible had a splendid chance to become possible… and that´s – what I believe, happened eventually.

Two curiosities – and let’s even say, somewhat relatively experienced reporters from Metal-Rules.com – crept through the gates of Sauna Open Air Metal Festival, and the following honest observations were made on the happenings during this metallic feast…

by EvilG

Here’s another update from Mustafa, a metalhead in < ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Iraq. He’s not a soldier, but a citizen living in Iraq! We think it’s very cool to know that there are ‘brothers of metal’ even in Iraq so we’d like to give our readers the opportunity to hear more on what it is like to be a metalhead in this kind of a situation.

If you have any questions on the column, send them here.

SCORPIONS Vocalist Klaus Meine

July 2nd, 2007
by Marko Syrjala

KLAUS MEINE

Legendary German rockers Scorpions are back in the limelight with their new album “Humanity -Hour 1″ which is the bands 21’st studio release. The album proves that although the band has already reached their respectable 35 year landmark they still have a lot to give to the fans of melodic hard rock and metal. The new album is produced by Desmond Child who is one of the most respected and successful producers in today’s music business. I had an opportunity to sit down with the band’s vocalist and founding member Klaus Meine just prior to the band’s triumphant performance in this years edition of the legendary Swedenrock. Here is what Klaus had to say about the new album and some other current topics in the Scorpions world…

Live photos by Lord of the Wasteland

With a career that spans 18 years and 8 studio albums, Dark Tranquillity are veterans in their field. Far from retired this legendary act has continued to push their own boundaries without ever straying from their original sound. Their latest album FICTION is it another fine release and an album that you should add to your collection – that is, if haven’t already done so. I had the opportunity to catch up with vocalist Mikael Stanne and together we discussed, amongst other things, the creative process behind the new album as well as what it’s like to be a musician in Dark Tranquillity.

MALICIOUS DEATH – Tormenting grip on the bass´ neck, Bilibaldus

June 25th, 2007
by Metal Rules

Tormenting grip on the bass´ neck:
Bilibaldus from Malicious Death says his piece

Interview by Luxi Lahtinen
Live pictures by Toni “ElDiablo” Salminen (Metalscope.net)

Malicious Death from the capital of Finland, Helsinki, plays old school Thrash Metal that has much to do with the traditions and deepest values as far as a vintage sounding Speed – and Thrash Metal is concerned. The band has already recorded a couple of albums (DEVILIZATION on their own label, Rebellion Records in 2003; available as vinyl only – and WAR & POWER on Verikauha Records in 2005) – and is currently working on new songs for their next album that we can hopefully expect by the end of 2007.

Bilibaldus from Malicious Death was kind enough to tell us more about what the band has been up to lately, plus his own thoughts about the current state of the metal scene – what´s wrong with it and what are some of things in it in his opinion that spreads a´from-ear-to-another´ wide smile on his face.

However, be warned that some of you may find Bilibaldus´ comments and opinions insulting, and probably even somewhat disturbing – and Metal-Rules.com takes no responsibility for his any of his sayings, whatsoever.
