ULI JON ROTH

November 26th, 2006
by Marko Syrjala

ULI JON ROTH

The legendary guitar virtuoso Uli Jon Roth played on the Scorpions’ albums “Fly to the Rainbow” (1974), “In Trance” (1975), “Virgin Killer” (1976), “Taken by Force” (1977) and finally on the classic live album “Tokyo Tapes”. Now he’s once again back on the touring circuit with his new band and also preparing to record a new studio album. Joining Uli on tour and in the studio is another ex-Scorpions member Francis Buchholz on bass with the rest of the band comprising of singer Olaf Senkbeil, Ferdy Doernberg (Alex Rudi Pell, Rough Silk) on keyboards and drummer Michael Ehré.

Although extreme wheather conditions had caused unexpected delays and cancellations in the plane and train department, with the situation on the roads not being much better, all is well that ends well. After much difficulty we finally arrived safely at the Rockland club in time enough to have a word with Uli Jon Roth, who had many interesting things to tell about his past with the Scorpions as well as his plans for the future and all the things in between (such as past and future collaborations with Ian Gillan of Deep Purple…)

Interviewer Anders Sandvall

Thanks to Stefan at Zink Music for setting up the interview
Thanks to Frontiers records for the promo pictures of Joe Lynn Turner

The time has now come for me to interview the legendary Joe Lynn Turner about his appearance in the project Sunstorm. Besides the project Sunstorm he’s also participated in another project called the Richie Zito Project. Joe Lynn Turner is certainly a busy man and I was happily surprised when he took the time to talk to me and answering my questions.

Evile – Lead Guitarist Ol Drake

November 24th, 2006
by Luxi Lahtinen

Lead guitarist Ol Drake from Evile

Interview by Luxi Lahtinen

The British thrashers Evile signed to a legendary metal label Earache Records just in the mid of October´06. In a way it could be said they deserved to get signed by them even if there has been a lot of talking about Evile as another Exodus rip off band. On the other hand, one needs to ask ‘do you like old school Thrash?’; I mean, the way it was churned out in the ´80s ála Slayer, Death Angel, Heathen and of course Exodus? If that´s something that makes your heart pound, body sweat, and blood run faster, then be all hailed and welcomed Evile! The band surely knows how to thrash – how to thrash the way through every thrasher´s heart by all that sheer strong potential they share inside the band, to become even the next big thing from England that might well take the whole world by a firestorm.

Ol, the lead guitarist of Evile talked to Metal-Rules.com about the band, signing to Earache, as well as of course their forthcoming debut album – not forgetting completely to throw a handful of praising words toward his main influences either who have influenced him as a guitarist. Read on…

WHITESNAKE Guitarist Doug Aldrich

November 15th, 2006
by Marko Syrjala

DOUG ALDRICH

Douglas "Doug" Aldrichs career as a musician started in the mid eighties when he joined the band Lion in 1985. Although they did succeed quite well they never made it to the big time and the band slowly disbanded after three albums in the late 80′s. Doug then worked briefly with such names as Hurricane and House of Lords before he formed Bad Moon Rising together with his former Lion band mate Kal Swan. Bad Moon Rising released three albums in the 90′s but they split up in 1998. Burning Rain was formed later on the same year and actually they still exist although there has not been too much news from their camp lately. In early 2002 Doug decided to agree to Ronnie James Dio’s offer to join as a fulltime member of Dio and soon he was in the studio recording guitar parts for the upcoming "Killing the Dragon" album. Although the album and following tour were really successful, Doug surprisingly decided to leave Dio and join David Coverdale’s new version of Whitesnake in the end of 2002. The Whitesnake reunion has been very successful. The band has done several world tours and last spring they released a new DVD "Live … In the Still of the Night". A new Whitesnake live album "Live… In The Shadow of the Blues" will be released later this year. The new album will also include four brand new studio tracks, the bands first new music in eight years, written by Doug and Coverdale. This interview was done last July. I met Doug during Whitesnake’s stop in Finland a day after their sold out concert in Helsinki and here are the results of out lengthy discussion about his current activities, past and future. The story continues….

Onslaught – Legendary British Thrashers

November 3rd, 2006
by Luxi Lahtinen

Sy Keeler – The vocalist of Onslaught

Interview & live pictures by Luxi Lahtinen

Thanks to Duke for the transcription

"I am so excited and can’t wait for everyone to hear the finished album. Thrash Metal will never be the same again. It’s time for Slayer to step aside. Our lyrical content is ugly and ‘will’ upset people. The music is so fucking brutal. Is that the same band who recorded IN SEARCH OF SANITY? A mix of POWER FROM HELL and THE FORCE, dragged screaming and thrashing into the 21st century. You have been warned!"Sy Keeler on 25th of July 2006

Hmmm…. such brave words from such a bravely talking guy. Metal-Rules.com wanted to find out how much Sy?s announcement held water by testifying the band?s live appearance at the precious Jalometalli Festival in Oulu, Finland on August 18th. The band not only played a well-chosen cavalcade of old Onslaught classic songs at Jalometalli, but also threw a couple of new songs off from their forth-coming 4th album, titled KILLING PEACE (due to out in February 2007 on Candlelight Records) as teasers. According to these new songs they played for their Finnish fans, "Destroyer of the World" and the album?s title track "Killing Peace", it can somewhat fully be subscribed the time has come for Slayer to step aside – not matter how good Slayer?s latest album CHRIST ILLUSION was. KILLING PEACE will contain 9 new songs full of hard, heavy and fast Thrash Metal without any kind of compromises, the way we ?old timers? still remember Onslaught when Sy was screaming his lungs out in the classic Onslaught line-up.

Sy talks about the new album in this very interview for Metal-Rules.com – and just about much more…

JEFF WALKER

By Marko Syrjälä & Arto Lehtinen
Transcripted by Blake “Metal” Wolfe

Jeff Walker joined the immortal ranks of extreme metal genre with the legendary Carcass releases in the 80′s and early 90’s. The British grindcore squad split in the middle of the 90′s and Jeff continued with BlackStar releasing one album and kind of vanished. We got an opportunity to talk with Jeff about his old bands and even his current band activities. Enjoy!
