Guitar legend Mark Reale from reunited/reactivated Texas metallers RIOT suffered a leg injury recently that has kept him bed-ridden.
Says Reale, “it sucks this happened with me because we are moving forward with Tony Moore (Thundersteel-era) on vocals. He came up and burned the four tracks we had ready for him and there’s a lot more great tones to choose from! I can’t wait to get going again as soon as possible. Tony sounds great! But it looks like the album at this time will most likely see the light of day in 2011.”
Riot’s shows in Japan, Sweden and Spain were filmed so expect some kind of DVD in the future.
DETROIT, MI – Detroit’s rising technical death metal outfit, As They Sleep, has posted a brand new song on MySpace, “Oracle of the Dead”, taken from the band’s Solid State Records debut, Dynasty, which is slated to hit stores on November 23rd. The new track can be streamed now at: www.myspace.com/astheysleep, for a preview of the pulverizing precision that can be expected on the band’s sophomore album.
“One of the darkest, fastest, grittiest songs on the new album, ‘Oracle of the Dead’ is relentless,” explains vocalist, Aaron Bridgewater. “It is sure to satisfy your death metal taste buds!”
Dynasty is a complex record, with a conceptual focus on the rise and fall of empires, and lyrics that touch on ancient Egypt, ancient Rome, and Greek mythology. It was mixed by powerhouse audio wizard, Jason Suecof (All That Remains, Chimaira, Demon Hunter), and delivers a package of brutally heavy and savagely technical death metal of the highest order.
The track list for Dynasty is…
1. Oracle of the Dead
2. To the Republic
3. The Third Reich
4. Bedlam at the Nile
5. The Darkest Ages
7. The Offering
10. God of War
11. The Unseen
Earache Records is proud to announce the signing of North Carolina’s HOUR OF 13 to a worldwide recording deal.
HOUR OF 13 have built up a formidable reputation in underground circles for their potent brand of occult-inspired doom-laden metal. The band recently performed their debut show at the ‘Dublin Doom Day’ Festival in Ireland, to rapturous response.
Their debut US show takes place in New York on October 16.
Guitarist and founder CHAD DAVIS commented on the deal:
“We, Hour Of 13, are proud to have become part of the Earache Records legacy. The support the label has shown to a host of influential bands over the years has been essential to the growth of real, original music, and we could not be more pleased to have become one of those bands. This is a monumental step for Hour Of 13, and we’re glad to have Earache on our side.”
Earache will re-release the band’s last album, ‘THE RITUALIST’, in early 2011, which will be supported by further live appearances throughout the year.

DEICIDE Announce "The God Is Dead - To Hell With God" Headlining Tour
Twenty years ago, an underground cult movement surfaced in Tampa, Florida that revolutionized the metal world. The pioneers of this burgeoning scene, DEICIDE, are still striking fear into hearts of the masses to this day. As the world eagerly anticipates their new full-length slab of blasphemy, To Hell With God, the group prepares to embark on a massive North American headlining run appropriately titled “God Is Dead – To Hell With God Tour.” The Bloody-Disgusting sponsored trek, which kicks off on Feb. 15th also features Belphegor, Blackguard, Neuraxis and Pathology. To Hell With God was produced by the renowned Mark Lewis and is set for an early 2011 release.
Tickets for the tour will be available starting today (Sept. 22nd) via an exclusive internet presale on www.enterthevault.com . VIP tickets will also be available and include early entry and a pre-show meet & greet with DEICIDE. All shows will then go on sale through normal ticketing systems on October 14th, 2010. Either see below or visit Enter The Vault to view the entire tour itinerary.
DEICIDE are one of the founding fathers of death metal and easily one of the most influential and controversial bands ever. With a relentlessly brutal sound and uncompromisingly blasphemous lyrics, DEICIDE helped set the standards for extreme metal and have maintained those standards ever since.
DEICIDE stormed ahead into the future, releasing numerous albums engulfed by waves of controversy, as their popularity continued to ferment within the scene. However, it was the 2006 release The Stench of Redemption that put the band back on the map as the leaders of the genre. This was their first album to showcase the more melodic leads of guitarists Owen and Santolla which only added to their riotous and enigmatic success. DEICIDE looks forward to taking things to the next level in 2011, promising to deliver the album of their already heralded career.

Irish thrashers GAMA BOMB have just wrapped up their “Graveyard Disturbance” headlining European tour, and are now gearing up for their first ever North American tour.
The band will be kicking off the massive North American trek on October 22nd and will be teaming up with the likes of OVERKILL, FORBIDDEN, EVILE, BONDED BY BLOOD and DRI.
GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE looks ahead to their first American tour:
“Touring in America is one of those things that every band, every musician or bedroom rockstar dreams about. Even bands from America don’t get to tour America. We’re lucky enough to get the chance and are really excited about it. If any tour we’ve ever undertaken can be described as a great adventure, this is it. It’s going to be hard, but we’re hard men. It’s going to be girthy, but so are we. We’ll wear the appropriate hats and drink the right liquors. You get the picture.
“We’ve toured with Overkill before and really look up to Blitz and the guys as friends and mentors, so it’s going to be great to spend more time with them gigging, drinking and talking. The Overkill guys embody that American idea of ‘shooting the shit’ when they’re backstage, so we’re looking forward to shooting some shits with them. Forbidden we’ve never met, but are looking forward to hearing them do some of their classics and getting to know them.
“Evile and Bonded By Blood are, of course, good friends of ours. We’ve already been to some weird and wonderful places with those guys, and this is going to be the biggest adventure we’ve all had yet. Everyone will be sick of us within about an hour of the tour bus rolling out, but that goes with the territory I suppose. We’re looking forward to seeing America, meeting cool people and sampling the many local moonshines the country has to offer. I head most of them won’t even render you blind, which is great. Also, we will do good gigs while we are out there.”

Newly signed to eOne Music, sludge metal legends CROWBAR will re-release three influential records, CROWBAR, LIVE +1 and TIME HEALS NOTHING on October 5th, 2010. These three records are the band’s core titles and have influenced many of today’s major metal acts including LAMB OF GOD and HATEBREED. With each title originally being released in the early nineties, this will be the first time all three records will be widely available in stores and online. A new CROWBAR record is planned for early 2011.
Kirk Windstein formed CROWBAR in 1991. Since that time, the band’s sound has profoundly influenced a new generation of metal acts the world over. Weinstein is also a key member of KINGDOM OF SORROW (with HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta) and DOWN.
Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen has issued the following update:
“Rainy and chilly day in Warsaw, Poland. After being under the sun and enjoying lovely springtime in Buenos Aires, the weather in Europe came as a shock to me. It’s really damn cold already!
Today was the first day of the rehearsals with the band. We went through almost all the new songs already, but few are still missing. I am sure tomorrow we ‘kill’ them all. The band sounds tight and it’s great fun to see the guys enjoying my music again.
We have a new bass player with us: Mr. Kevin Chown.
Always when there is a change in the line up, the overall sound changes and the atmosphere among us as well. I am sure you’ll like what you’ll hear. I see many smiling faces around, so I am happy. My guys and me are going to hit the road together again!”
Tarja announced the names of the bands that will support her on her upcoming European tour: the French band MARKIZE will support Tarja for the whole tour; Poland’s AT THE LAKE will play in Krakow, Poland on October 2nd; France’s WHYZDOM will play in Paris, France on October 10th; and the UK based band SOLSIKK will play in London, England on October 13th.
BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE, IRON MAIDEN Members Recording New Song For Charity
In 1989, BLACK SABBATH’s Tony Iommi and DEEP PURPLE’s Ian Gillan were just a few names in a long list of talent involved in the re-recording of the classic Deep Purple track ‘Smoke On The Water’. This song was re-recorded to raise money for those affected by the Leninakan earthquake that struck Armenia in 1988. In October of last year, both Iommi and Gillan travelled to Armenia to see how the funds raised had helped the local community. On their trip they visited a music school only to find it being run out of temporary accommodation, it was only location not to have been rebuilt 20 years after the earthquake had struck.
Next week Iommi and Gillan will be heading back into the studio, joined by keyboardist Jon Lord (ex-Deep Purple, WHITESNAKE) and drummer Nicko McBrain (IRON MAIDEN) to record a new track to raise money to rebuild the Armenian music school. More information about the charity single ‘Out Of My Mind’ and behind the scenes photos will follow soon.

Live Oblivion 2010 will wind up Dreadnaught’s live schedule for the year comprising their final shows before taking some time out of the live scene to finish the writing of a new LP, due in 2011.
Since their inception in 1992, DREADNAUGHT have established themselves as a cornerstone for Australian heavy rock audiences. Never touted as the ‘next big thing’ or ‘flavour of the month’ as sub-genres and bands come and go, Dreadnaught never fail to provide their loyal fans, both old and new, with great rock and metal.
Having started the year strongly with their appearance at the Adelaide Big Day Out festival, SE BON KI RA are keen to end 2010 in a similar style, by thrashing their way around the country with good mates, good times and great metal. In 2011 the band will enter into writing and recording phase, with a full length release due out later in the year.
SE BON KI RA live shows are an intense combination of energetic passion and fun, based on the belief that heavy metal can be powerful and carry meaning without conveying the negativity often associated with the genre. The band takes pride in bringing honesty to their craft. There’s no unnecessary gloss or polish here, but there is lots of sweat and the occasional drop of blood.
Joining both bands on tour will be Victoria’s pure thrash metaller’s Desecrator, as well as other support from the likes of 4Arm (Vic), Lacerta (Tas), Red Bee (NSW), Squawk (NSW), Path of Pariah (Vic), ISAW (SA), Mammoth (SA), and Evilution(Vic).
Remember, it’s YOU, the metal-head that makes the metal scene work so get out and support some grassroots heavy music!!! Oblivion awaits …
ENGLAND – Extreme metal’s most infamous act, Cradle Of Filth, has teamed up with America’s horror magazine, Fangoria, to premiere the band’s latest music video for the new track, “Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned)”. The video was directed by Dani Jacobs, and the song comes from the forthcoming full-length, Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, to be released on Nuclear Blast Records on November 9th. In the words of Cradle’s iconic frontman, Dani Filth, the band’s ninth studio album is their “most sinister and darkened fairytale.” The music video for “Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned)”, the album’s first single, does nothing to dispute that statement. Head over to Fangoria.com now to see for yourself.
The Grammy nominated, Cradle Of Filth, continues to shock, excite, disgust and inspire in equal measures. A loyal stalwart to the satanic horror ethos, Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa is a concept album based on Adam’s first wife, the lascivious demoness Lilith. It was recorded at Monkey Puzzle Studios, near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, England, and is the follow-up to 2008’s Godspeed On The Devil’s Thunder. Artwork comes courtesy of Natalie Shau.
A preview of a new track from Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, “The Cult Of Venus Aversa”, is now streaming on the album’s mini-site at: www.peaceville.com/cradleoffilth.
The track is also playing on the band’s new iPhone app, which launched last week, and can be downloaded at: http://mobileroadie.com/apps/cof-app. The free app contains audio samples, videos, pics, and allows users to keep up with all the latest news from the band. It also has a “Top Users” function, which awards points every time the app is used (i.e. write on the fan wall, post photo, share items to Facebook and Twitter, listen to tracks). The band will award a special prize of a unique signed art print of the album’s artwork, plus a signed copy of the album to whoever is the top user at midday (UK time) on the day of the UK release (November 1st). Full terms and conditions are on the mini-site.
In addition to the new track preview and iPhone app, the mini-site also features a video blog, info about the album, a gallery featuring new band pics and elements from the album artwork, a link to download a MP3 of the track“Lilith Immaculate”, other downloads, and more. The site is being updated on a weekly basis with exclusive content, including a preview of a different track from the album every Wednesday, so be sure to check back often. Whether through their wildly elaborate & theatrical live shows (which incorporate giant lumbering puppets, fire-breathing dancers, freaks and stilt-walkers), provocative merchandise (including the now legendary ‘Jesus Is A Cunt’ t-shirt), breathtaking artwork, or the weighty subject matter of their albums (their latest told the story of a French Lord who fought alongside Joan Of Arc before embarking on a horrific killing spree), Cradle Of Filth is a band whose uncompromising stance has been rewarded with legions of fans around the world, making them the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden.

You could say that Anthrax has made the metal comeback of the year. After the veteran band of East Coast thrashers stood poised to release their first new album in seven years, their then-vocalist Dan Nelson abruptly left the band leaving Anthrax’s launch date for their new record on ice. When the band was invited to perform as part of the "Big Four" concerts during the Sonisphere Festival, Joey Belladonna returned to Anthrax’s lineup for a third time and will now be re-recording vocals for the as yet unreleased new album, tentatively titled "Worship Music". A CD/DVD box set comprised of all four sets from the bands that make up the "Big Four" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) will be released in early November. Presently the band are performing nightly to sold out arena’s on a bill headlined by Slayer and Megadeth, dubbed the "Jägermeister Fall Music Tour" and referred to by longtime die-hard fans as "Clash of the Titans 2" You will not want to miss this epic billing when it comes thrashing to a concert stage near you.
Drummer/Vocalist/Bassist of Therion, Dimmu Borgir, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond & Dream Evil
Interview by Lord Of The Wasteland
Snowy Shaw is a veteran of the heavy metal wars. Since first surfacing with King Diamond back in 1989, to his tenure with Dream Evil, Therion and briefly Dimmu Borgir earlier this year, Shaw’s multi-instrumentalism and ever-broadening artistic vision have kept him busy both in the spotlight and behind the scenes. Despite his wearing many hats, Shaw has always remained a unique and interesting character.
This interview, conducted initially to showcase Snowy Shaw’s joining Dimmu Borgir, was consequently forced to change direction after the rather sudden announcement that Shaw was leaving Dimmu Borgir and re-joining Therion. This shift was even more confusing given the fact that both bands were set to release their latest CDs within days of each other.
As Snowy does his best to diplomatically explain the various moves, it is clear that there is more to the story, but we will have to wait to hear that. In the meantime, enjoy this lengthy chat with one of metal’s more charismatic personalities.
