FIRST COMPLETE ‘ILLUSTRATED RETROSPECTIVE’ BOOK ON ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR BANDS IN ROCK HISTORY, CELEBRATES 4 DECADES IN WORDS AND PHOTOS
MINNEAPOLIS ? Voyageur Press has joined forces with renowned rock journalist Phil Sutcliffe for the brand new book, AC/DC – HIGH-VOLTAGE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL: The Ultimate Illustrated History. This lovingly assembled tome — the first complete illustrated history published about this legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee — arrives October 15th, 2010 to celebrate four decades of simply ass-kicking rock n’ roll, perfectly mixing expertly researched text and many never-before-seen photos. This heavy duty 224-page volume follows AC/DC’s long-and-winding career, from the early days as a bar band in Australia, through the tragic passing of singer Bon Scott, and of course, their massive comeback success with one of rock’s all-time classic (and best-selling) albums, Back in Black.
AC/DC is currently comprised of Brian Johnson (vocals), Angus Young (lead guitar), Malcolm Young (rhythm guitar), Cliff Williams (bass), and Phil Rudd (drums). Formed in Australia during the early 1970s, the group — then lead by hard-living frontman Bon Scott — became a regional sensation with a brand of tough, bluesy hard rock, that soon translated globally, on the strength of such classics as “T.N.T.,” “Dirty Deeds,” “Whole Lotta Rosie,” “Sin City,” and “Highway to Hell.” But on the eve of becoming a worldwide arena headliner, Scott died in 1980 after a hard night of drinking. Replaced by Johnson, the group issued Back in Black just a few months later, and has been rightfully considered one of rock’s all-time great recording and live acts.
Featuring over 400 illustrations (including handbills, posters, backstage passes, and vinyl from around the globe, as well as rare candid and performance photography), and a special “spinner” cover image of Angus Young, AC/DC – HIGH-VOLTAGE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL: The Ultimate Illustrated History is sure to appeal to both the longtime fan and the newcomer. Sidebars by rock’s finest journalists weighing in on various eras of the AC/DC are included throughout the book, as well as an album-by-album analysis, and info on the guitar gear championed by the Young brothers. While many AC/DC fans have heard and experienced the group live on stage numerous times over the years, there has simply never been a book which has chronicled the group’s entire history as vividly as AC/DC – HIGH-VOLTAGE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL: The Ultimate Illustrated History.
In addition to the AC/DC book, Voyageur Press will be issuing another major rock title this fall, Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot’s THE BEATLES VS. THE ROLLING STONES: Sound Opinions on the Great Rock n’ Roll Rivalry. These titles join Voyageur Press’ other most recent “Illustrated History” releases, Dan Durchholz’s and Gary Graff’s NEIL YOUNG: Long May You Run,Jon Bream’s NEIL DIAMOND IS FOREVER: The Illustrated Story of the Man and His Music , Phil Sutcliffe’s QUEEN: The Crown Kings of Rock, and Jim DeRogatis’ THE VELVET UNDERGROUND: An Illustrated History of A Walk on the Wild Side. All are jam-packed with photos, artifacts, and comprehensive histories of each artist.

Axioma Ethica Odini, the new album by Norway’s renowned progressive/psychedelic black metal band ENSLAVED, has sold over 1,400 copies in the U.S. since its release on September 28th and has debuted at #16 on the Billboard Heatseekers (New Artists) chart, #40 in the Current Hard Music Albums chart, and #72 on the Independent Current Albums chart.
ENSLAVED guitarist/songwriter Ivar Bjørnson has checked in from the road in Europe with their reaction to the news:
“We received news last week of the great first week sales in the U.S. with accompanying chart positions. Most important is the fact that we out-did our own previous achievements [with 2008’s Vertebrae] in the U.S. market. We’re not competing with anything else than our own ambitions. We want to express our sincere appreciation to the wonderful people at Nuclear Blast U.S. for their relentless efforts in promoting ENSLAVED, as this is also their achievement!”
Axioma Ethica Odini is the follow-up to 2008’s Vertebrae, which sold over 1,100 copies its first week of release in North America according to Nielsen SoundScan and debuted on the American Billboard Hard Music chart at #11 and on the Billboard Heatseekers chart at #49. Vertebrae also won Terrorizer Magazine’s coveted “Album of the Year” award for 2008. In their native Norway, Vertebrae entered the official charts at #20 and earned ENSLAVED their third consecutive Spellemann award (the Norwegian equivalent of a Grammy).
ENSLAVED will be direct support for fellow countrymen DIMMU BORGIR on a 32-date run across North America which launches on Friday, November 5th in Worcester, Massachusetts and ends Tuesday, December 14th in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Also on the bill are Blood Red Throne and Dawn Of Ashes.

ROADRUNNER RECORDS Launches SignMeTo Social Network
Roadrunner Records has announced the launch of web property SignMeTo Roadrunner Records, a dynamic new free service that mimics the actual A&R process using social networking tactics.
SignMeTo is a fun and functional way for fans and unsigned bands to participate in the music industry’s A&R process. Users begin by signing up as “scouts,” and unsigned bands create their own profiles, which scouts then rate and tag. The band profiles offer comprehensive functionality, with bands being able to upload photos, video, music and tour dates. For added convenience, artists and managers are able to use one dashboard to control multiple profiles.
Scouts then peruse the site and rate and review bands, which impact SignMeTo charts, which refresh daily or weekly by genre. The more each scout interacts with the site, the more weight their opinions carry. New charts are formed as users spread new tags, with genres expanding from the very simple “Alternative” or “Rock” all the way to more complex genres like “Russian Death Metal.” Besides other chart incentives, bands can also earn badges, some of which are bestowed by real Roadrunner A&R staff. SignMeTo already boasts 6,000+ active band profiles and 10,000+ scouts.
For bands, an added perk is that profile URLs are static, meaning that artists can use their SignMeTo profiles instead of clunkier, existing platforms. Unlike other services that allow bands to host music and content for free, SignMeTo provides an endgame: prevailing as the top-ranked artist in their respective genre or user-generated tag charts. And who knows — maybe a lucky few will end up with a Roadrunner Records deal!
Jon Satterley, Senior Vice President of New Media and Global Business Development and chief architect of SignMeTo, said, “Roadrunner Records is one of the few record labels left with a recognizable brand — one that stands for the very best in rock, metal and alternative music. We wanted to create a fun place for the thousands of bands and fans who are part of our world… but perhaps not yet on the artist roster. To immerse themselves in the culture of the label — a culture they themselves created and keep creating. SignMeTo is a place to discover new music, engage in real musical critiquing, and (as an artist) test yourself against the thousands of other musicians hoping to get discovered.”
Launched in 2010, SignMeTo Roadrunner Records is Roadrunner’s unique take on the world of A&R, music discovery and social networking. Dedicated to providing a quality experience to a vibrant community of fans and artists, SignMeTo is fast proving to be the destination site for unsigned rock, alternative and metal music.
Originally founded in 1980 in the Netherlands, Roadrunner Records has earned its place as one of the most prominent international independent record labels. Established primarily as a hard rock label, Roadrunner now boasts depth and variety in its artists. The label has recently experienced unprecedented success with multi-platinum artists NICKELBACK and SLIPKNOT, near-platinum THEORY OF A DEADMAN, gold-certified STONE SOUR and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, as well as modern heavy hitters KORN, DREAM THEATER, MEGADETH, TRIVIUM and OPETH. Roadrunner’s current roster also includes such diverse acts such as THE PARLOR MOB, plus up-and-comers like YOUNG THE GIANT, BLACK STONE CHERRY and AIRBOURNE. Loud & Proud Records, a label joint-venture with Roadrunner, is home to established heritage rock acts including ROB ZOMBIE, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, RATT, MEAT LOAF (North America) and KISS (Europe and select territories). Roadrunner catalog includes now-classic albums from seminal artists such as TYPE O NEGATIVE, SEPULTURA and KING DIAMOND. Still headquartered in the Netherlands, Roadrunner occupies offices in New York, now the A&R hub for the label, as well as the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Japan and Australia.
Denmark’s sludge metal three-piece RISING has just posted two new tracks on their Myspace-site. These are the first pieces of music from the band since 2009’s critically acclaimed self titled debut EP, and the two tracks are from a forthcoming 7-inch vinyl to be released on Red Tape on November 29th. The two tracks “Legacy of Wolves” and “Daughter of The Sun” displays an even fiercer and aggressive side of the band than heard on their debut EP.
RISING’s debut EP will finally be released as a vinyl, also on November 29th and hereby mark a simultaneous release of the 7” and the EP. The German based metal/punk-label Pain of Mind will be the label for the EP vinyl edition, which will be a 12” in a limited edition of 500 ex, of which 150 are white vinyl. Both vinyl releases will be available through RISING’s Myspace, the labels and various mail orders and record dealers throughout the world.
RISING have since the release of their self titled debut EP had a high level of activity: A nomination at the Danish Metal Awards 2009 as “Best New Talent”, two European tours and one Irish tour in 2010 as well as shows in Sweden and their native homeland of Denmark including a performance at this year’s Roskilde Festival. Apart from releasing the forthcoming new 7” vinyl and the 12” EP vinyl edition, RISING is hard at work writing their debut album to be recorded in March/April next year and released on a yet undisclosed German label in September 2011. www.myspace.com/risingdk
INFECTED NATIONS, the ripping 2009 album from British thrashers EVILE, has been re-released as a special redux version and is available now in Europe.
The follow-up to EVILE’s debut album, ENTER THE GRAVE, INFECTED NATIONS sees the band finding a new level of maturity and song-writing craftsmanship, creating a heavier thrash sound with even more infectious riffs to headbang to.
On top of the nine album tracks, the INFECTED NATIONS Redux also features a bonus disc with EVILE’s popular cover of PANTERA’s “Cemetery Gates”, as well as eight songs recorded at a live rehearsal in the studio and six songs recorded live at Hammerfest in 2009. The album also includes a free INFECTED NATIONS album cover woven patch and an EVILE sticker sheet, as well as the chance to win frontman MATT DRAKE’s very own guitar.
ANTHRAX performed a new song, “Fight ‘Em ‘Til You Can’t”, with singer Joey Belladonna for the first time during last night’s (Friday, October 8th) concert at at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York as part of the Jägermeister Music Tour with SLAYER and MEGADETH. Watch fan-filmed video footage of the performance below.
ANTHRAX debuted “Fight ‘Em ‘Til You Can’t” on May 28, 2008 at Double Door in Chicago, Illinois during the band’s first-ever gig with then-singer Dan Nelson. The song was also recorded with Dan for what was supposed to be the next ANTHRAX album, “Worship Music”, but ended up getting shelved — along with the rest of the CD — following the departure of Nelson and return of Belladonna.
Following seven historic shows as part of the “Big Four” European festival dates with METALLICA, SLAYER and MEGADETH, ANTHRAX has joined SLAYER and MEGADETH on the Jägermeister Fall Music Tour, which kicked off September 24 at Superpages in Dallas, Texas. The 20-date concert trek marks the first U.S. tour ANTHRAX has done since Belladonna rejoined the band earlier this year, and the first time the three bands have shared an American stage since the classic 1991 “Clash of the Titans” tour.
For this tour, ANTHRAX has teamed up with Artist Arena to offer fans the ultimate ANTHRAX VIP Package, which consists of a meet-and-greet pass to meet ANTHRAX, an autographed commemorative poster, a commemorative tour laminate, and an exclusive VIP-only ANTHRAX T-shirt.
Since returning from the European tour, the members of ANTHRAX have begun writing and rehearsing for their new album which is expected out in early 2011.

Earth Sick Mind, the thunderous debut full-length from Santa Cruz doom rockers DUSTED ANGEL, is finally upon us and set for release on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. The crushing 7-track attack of Earth Sick Mind was captured in San Francisco by sludgemonger Billy Anderson (High on Fire, Neurosis, Sleep) in April, and will be released next week by Mankind Records, a division of Revelation Records. A solid year and a half of touring and west coast gigs have the members of DUSTED ANGEL conditioned to jam tighter than ever, building upon the rocking hardcore-meets-stoner/doom dynamics fans of the band already love, and taking these songs to massive new levels of crushing groove.
In celebration, DUSTED ANGEL will perform at a pair of Bay Area record release shows this month. The first show takes place in San Francisco on October 15th just days after the album’s release, where DA will be playing alongside Dischord Records hardcore legends Scream! The following week the band hit their hometown Santa Cruz legions hard, playing alongside Christian Mistress and Thrones who are currently touring the US together.
DUSTED ANGEL Record Release Shows:
10/15/2010 Thee Parkside – San Francisco, CA w/ Scream, Dead Meat
10/27/2010 Blue Lagoon – Santa Cruz, CA w/ Christian Mistress, Thrones
DUSTED ANGEL contains members of skatecore legends Bl’ast, metal experimentalists Spaceboy, corrosive sludge metal act Gargantula and more. All longtime friends from time spent in previous bands, or just from growing up in the Santa Cruz skate/surf/slam scene together for the past 20 years, brought DUSTED ANGEL together in 2008. They’ve done nothing but rock your face off ever since…
The DIO Tribute at the Sweden Rock Cruise was an incredible night. LION’S SHARE really wanna thank all the guests for their great performances, Sweden Rock Magazine and of course the audience: what a great crowd!
Finally we want to thank Ronnie James Dio for the awesome music he gave us and pay our respects to Wendy Dio and the rest of his family.
Here’s the setlist with some comments:
1. “E5150”, (intro)
2. “Mob Rules”, (Lion’s Share)
3. “Stand Up And Shout”, (Lion’s Share)
4. “Holy Diver”, (Lion’s Share)
Comment: the response from the crowd really blew us away. Epic!
….and here we start picking up the different guests to perform with us:
5. “Egypt (The Chains Are On)”, together with Johan Edlund from Tiamat on vocals.
Comment: Johan really did his own version of this great song and it was brilliant.
6. “Man On The Silver Mountain”, together with Johan Hegg on vocals.
Comment: A smoking performance from Mr. Amon Amarth himself. A classic!
7. “Don’t Talk To Strangers”, together with Charles Rytkönen on vocals.
Comment: Awesome performance from the front man of Morgana Lefay. Thumbs up:)
Here we had a little changeover and Martin Forssman from Sweden Rock Magazine entered the stage and reminded the audience to support the “Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund”.
8. “One Night In The City”, performed by Gothenburg Allstars: Björn Gelotte (In Flames) – Guitar, Peter Iwers (In Flames) – Bass, Jocke Berg (Hardcore Superstar) – Vocals, Magnus “Adde” Andreasson (Hardcore Superstar) – Drums, Rikard Zander (Evergrey) – Keyboards
9. “Rock’n’roll Children”, (Gothenburg Allstars)
10. “Stargazer”, (Gothenburg Allstars)
Comment: These guys delivered a classy show. Quality and passion.
Another little changeover and Lion’s Share entered the stage again.
11. “Children Of The Sea”, together with Messiah Marcolin (ex-Candlemass) on vocals and Mike Wead from King Diamond on lead guitar.
12. “Sign Of The Southern Cross”, together with Messiah and Mike.
Comment: Superior performances from Mike and Messiah. Felt great to see Messiah back where he belongs: on stage. One of the best frontmen of all times!
13. “Tarot Woman”, together with Jens Johansson (ex-DIO, Yngwie, Stratovarius) on keyboards and Mats Levén (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, Treat, Therion, At Vance) on vocals.
Comment: Two of Sweden’s most talented musicians ever kicked ass in this Rainbow classic. Mats sang like a God!
14. “Rainbow In The Dark”, Lion’s Share singer Patrik took the stage again and Jens stayed to play this DIO hit song like he did so many times with the original.
15. “Heaven And Hell”, (Lion’s Share)
Comment: This song is probably the reason to why Patrik became a singer. And the audience….WOW!
Comment: Time for the great final; all artists above together on stage to perform DIO’s Live Aid-song “Stars”. Special guests Jim Jidhed from Alien and Janne “JB” Christoffersson from Grand Magus. We had no chance to rehearse this song, so it turned out to be pretty much a jam session. Chaotic….but fun:)
