Danger Danger vocalist Ted Poley announces the addition of guitarist/keyboardist Paul LaPlaca to his solo touring band. LaPlaca has previously worked with such acts as ZO2, Zandelle and Chris Caffrey of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Savatage. Poley’s current roster also includes drummer Dennis Leeflang (Lita Ford, Bumblefoot), guitarist Maz Mazza (40 Ft. Ringo, Detroit Cheeta) and bassist Doug Odell (All Pointz West, Ice Age). The new lineup is scheduled to make its live debut on December 3rd, 2010 at Klubben Fryshuset in Sweden.
Paul’s inclusion in Ted’s touring band continues a busy year for the multi-talented musician, which most recently saw him serving as associate producer of the new album from SplitScreen Entertainment, “Whole Lotta Love: An All-Star Salute to Fat Chicks.” For this unique project, LaPlaca produced 5 tracks in total, working with members of L.A. Guns, Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P. and Twisted Sister.
“It’s just been a crazy year so far and every day is completely different.” states the in-demand Paul LaPlaca. “Working on the ‘Whole Lotta Love’ album was an incredible experience, with so many different styles and such outstanding musicians. After that I was able to squeeze in some tech duties for one of my all-time favorite bands, Living Colour. In between I worked a Disney fashion show and manned a camera for insanely talented drummer Jojo Mayer. I was even flown from New York to Tampa to shoot a product demo for Rocktron. Now instead of taking a break, I’m preparing for the European festival date with Ted Poley, a reunion show with members of October Thorns and a live set of metalized Hanukkah favorites with NY’s own Gods of Fire. I guess I can sleep when I’m DEAD!”
Making LaPlaca’s induction into Poley’s band all the more appropriate is the fact that he’d previously produced a song called “Ted Poley” for the 2008 tribute album “Kiss My Ankh: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent.” A parody of the Kiss song “Unholy” by Vincent and Gene Simmons, the song was performed by rock & roll comic C.C. Banana and even featured current Poley bandmate Dennis Leeflang on drums. The track has proven to be a favorite with Ted’s fans and has been used to open his solo shows ever since.
Considering that Poley himself recently signed with ARM Entertainment (management firm of such notable talent as Bret Michaels, L.A. Guns and Dokken), Paul anticipates keeping busy for foreseeable future.

Vocalist Albert Rybka of the Utah-based progressive/power metal band KATAGORY V has recently issued an update on the recording sessions of the bands 5th album, “Resurrect the Insurgence”.
Commented Rybka, “Recording for the album officially began with the drum tracks in April, followed by rhythm guitars and bass at various points throughout the summer. Acoustic guitars, leads and a dash of keyboards were tracked from early August into early October, and vocals began tracking in late October. So, here’s where we stand as of now:
Drums: 100% complete
Guitars: 99% complete (we found a 15-second spot that could use a lead fill while recording vocals)
Bass: 100% complete
Keyboards: 100% complete
Vocals: 75% complete
You may be asking, “Keyboards? When did Katagory V get a keyboard player?” Actually, we had our friend Jordan Jennings from the band Clockwork Illusion come in and add some touches to a few of the songs, including an instrumental track. If you like bands along the lines of Ayreon, Dream Theater, Suspyre, Symphony X, and even Turisas, you should definitely check them out. We want to thank Jordan for coming in and putting some beautiful textures to some of the new songs.
I flew into Salt Lake City twice at the end of October to track my vocals, and it looks like I’ll be flying out one more time before the end of the year to finish everything up. We should also be adding some extra vocal parts from a few guest singers that we will be bringing in around that same time. The plan is to officially wrap up tracking the album altogether by January. After that, it’s a matter of choosing the right individuals to mix and master it.
We know it’s been quite some time since we’ve given you folks an update, but you can rest assured that we are hard at work to give you the best album we can possibly deliver. Though I am the new vocalist of the band, I was a fan of Katagory V for a number of years prior to joining, and I can wholeheartedly say that you’re in for the most diverse yet consistent album released by the band to date. This has been a work in progress of nearly three years, and is the first album that truly touches upon every influence within the band, from progressive and power metal to AOR, melodic rock, old school thrash, and classic heavy metal. To top it off, the sonic quality of this album is light years ahead of anything previously offered by the band, and we’re just listening to the rough mixes! We’re all extremely proud of this album, and we can’t wait for you to hear it!
“Resurrect the Insurgence” will be the first Katagory V album to be recorded, produced, and engineered by long-time bassist and songwriter Dustin Mitchell, who is the sole remaining original member in the band. The album marks the recording debut of the new KATAGORY V lineup:
Dustin Mitchell – Bass
Albert Rybka – Vocals
Matthew “Bizzaro” LeFevre – Drums
Marc Hanson – Guitar
Kris Krompel – Guitar

In October 2010 Indian Metal band Demonic Resurrection who recently signed to Candlelight Records and released their album ‘The Return To Darkness’ worldwide in July launched ‘The Unrelenting Guitar Cover Contest’ where fans were invited to cover the song ‘The Unrelenting Surge Of Vengeance’ and upload a video on youtube and the winner would get some band merchandise as a prize.
However wanting to give their fans more, they opened the contest to drummers, vocalists and bassists as well and tied up with Furtados Music India (the leading importer for musical instruments in India) to give each winner a gift voucher worth Rs.1500. Following this there were donations of Rs.1000 from 2 anonymous fans raising the prize money by Rs.2000 giving DR fans a far greater prize than previously.
This however has driven the band to give back even more to their fans and have tied up with India’s top rock and metal magazine Rock Street Journal who will give 2 free passes for the Great Indian Rock Festival where Demonic Resurrection will be playing alongside Enslaved, Meshuggah and other bands. The passes are worth Rs.1100 and valid for both days of the festival (unless the winner attends the festival in Kolkata or Pune where it will be 1 day). The prizes don’t end there, the winners will each receive a 1 year subscription to RSJ magazine.
The tickets will be a special wildcard prize and every entry in all categories will be eligible to win those tickets. Entries for this will close on 5th December.

In a collective statement from crossover kings SUICIDAL TENDENCIES: “Sunday Night ST played NYC to 2000 old and newschool Cycos! It’s always great to hit the East Coast and catch up with a lot of our friends, bands and family. Unfortunately the NYC show will be the last show of this tour. Sadly, one of the band members had a parent pass away suddenly and needed to fly home to be with his family in this difficult time and handle all the funeral arrangements, etc. With heavy hearts, the band decided it would be best to postpone the remaining ST shows and make them up sometime next year. We appreciate your understanding, your thoughts and your prayers. Please give us a few days and we will try and let those who already have tickets how how to get refunds, etc. Again, we are so sorry to have to postpone these shows, but hope that everyone will be able to understand, and we’ll do our best to make the dates up.”
The postponed dates include:

Finally news from the danish melodic death metal band Descensus after 5 years of silence. We have recorded 2 new tracks. Here follows a press release. We’ve attached a picture.
“Earlier this year we announced that we were hitting CB-studios in Holsted to record 2 brand new Descensus tracks.
Producer Christian Bonde is now done mixing and mastering the tracks “Death Affection” and “Slaves Of Conformity”, and we’re proud to finally present the new Descensus material. It is both possible to stream and download the tracks from our Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/descensus). The 2 new tracks will also be featured on our debut-album, which we are planning to record this winter.
New York, NY:Cavalera Conspiracy announced today the title of their second album, Blunt Force Trauma. The band released Inflikted in 2008 to much critical and fan acclaim. The album was a momentous occasion in the heavy metal universe, as it reunited brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera for the first time since Max left Sepultura in 1996.
The Brothers Cavalera co-founded Sepultura, the Brazilian metal band that redefined and established the genre outside of the US and Europe. After Max exited the band, there was a rift between himself and his brother, one that was eventually repaired through the redemptive power of music. Some time had passed and Max and Iggor were unable to resist the musical pull in their magnetic fields and their musical collaboration was renewed. The duo are back for round two with Cavalera Conspiracy.
Cavalera Conspiracy’s lineup is filled out by guitarist Marc Rizzo, who plays with Max in Soulfly, and bassist Johnny Chow.
Blunt Force Trauma is due out in March via Roadrunner Records. The track listing is below:
Cavalera Conspiracy appeared on the cover of Metal Edge in an homage to The Blues Brothers, and the album was one of the most spun platters on Sirius’ Liquid Metal/Hard Attack channel that year. Inflikted was described as “gobsmackingly violent” and Outburn mused, “If only all family reunions could be this awesome!”
Below is a further sampling of what the press had to say about Cavalera Conspiracy and Inflikted:
“The brothers who formed Sepultura, putting Brazil on the global metal map in the process, have reunited-personally and professionally-after more than a decade of acrimony, and their new album is a ferocious homecoming indeed.” —Revolver, May 2008
“The fruit of their labor, Inflikted, is an explosive flashback to the remorseless thrash and primal groove-metal Sepultura created with 1991’s Arise and 1993’s Chaos A.D. Although the songs were arranged and recorded quickly, Inflikted sounds neither hastily executed nor incomplete. There’s an almost telekinetic connection between Max’s riffing and Iggor’s drumming-the kind of chemistry that comes only from musicians who learned to play together and honed their craft through years of studio sessions and live shows.” —Artist Direct
“From straightforward pummeling death metal to more complex and technical songs, Cavalera Conspiracy hits on all cylinders.” —About.com
“For metalheads far and wide, it’s nice knowing the Cavaleras are tight again and sounding perhaps better than ever on Inflikted.” —MTV News, April 2008
“Inflikted combines the best elements of Soulfly and Sepultura. There’s lots of tribal drum beats, and the guitars are fast ‘n thrashy.” —Hit Parader, March/April 2008
“The band mixes the old with the new to create something fresh.” —My City Buzz.com
“Cavalera Conspiracy is not a mercy project, nor is it about cashing in. It’s about bringing the metal back.” —Ink
“No doubt this will be remembered as one of the most important heavy music releases of 2008, and quite possibly ever.” —ARTIST direct
“Given Inflikted’s overall high standards, the Cavalera Conspiracy may be around for a while.” —All Music
We have been holding this statement for a few months now, and it is finally time to announce: Cruz del Sur Music recording artists WHILE HEAVEN WEPT will no longer be part of the label’s roster. The label are thrilled, but also sad, to state that WHILE HEAVEN WEPT have signed a new record deal with Nuclear Blast Records.
The following are the press releases from the three parties involved. It is an important moment for Cruz Del Sur, passing the torch on to Nuclear Blast Records… may it keep on burning high! “I started working with Tom Phillips on the release of what was going to be Vast Oceans Lachrymose in June 2006. Almost three and a half years later, the release of VOL hit the market provoking an amazing reaction from the people who already loved WHW, but also conquering thousands of new fans. From then on, it was an exciting ride which has seen the CD re-release of their long out-of-print previous albums, a series of glorious live shows and the peak represented by the forthcoming release of their first live album Triumph: Tragedy: Transcendence available in a CD/DVD limited edition and on vinyl on Cruz del Sur Music. It was inevitable that WHW would catch the interest of bigger labels and I am not angry or disillusioned at all. I mainly see their going to a respectable and leading label as Nuclear Blast as a honor and a recognition of our work.” –Enrico Leccese/Cruz Del Sur Music
“Nuclear Blast is extremely elated to announce the signing of While Heaven Wept! Last year we were totally blown away by the release of the album Vast Oceans Lachrymose (out on Cruz del Sur Music) from the US genre-defining and genre-defying metal band While Heaven Wept! After months of talking with mastermind Tom Philips we are very happy to announce that WHW has joined the Nuclear Family!! While Heaven Wept are already in the studio recording their follow up album Fear of Infinity which will be out April 2011.” — Jaap Wagemaker/Nuclear Blast A&R
“It made perfect sense for us to align with Nuclear Blast, who also have been committed to offering only the very best in the world of Heavy Metal. Through this partnership, we will surely be able to continue delivering the best productions possible while presenting our musical vision in a different arena, betraying neither our past nor our ideals. Nuclear Blast’s support of our musical identity is truly an honor, and everyone who has stood by us all along these years need not worry; While Heaven Wept is what it is, and cannot be anything else. Expect the unexpected. We look forward to revealing our new album Fear Of Infinity together with Nuclear Blast very soon!” –Tom Phillips/While Heaven Wept
Ever wondered what it would be like to be on tour?
All the ups and downs, drinks and burgers from SONATA ARCTICA’s South American Tour of will now be brought to you absolutely free via SONATA ARCTICA TELEVISION.
Join the band as they travel through South America, starting from Finland on October 14th and all the way through their adventures until they get back home on November 1st. Meet characters such as Tero the “guitar tech, flight sock 1st timer, battery specialist, lingual sausage man,” learn new terminology such as “shit early,” and witness a public apology to the Mexican Government.
Season 1, Episode 1 airs November 15th 2010. New episode airs every Monday, as long as the band has material.
SONATA ARCTICA’s lead vocalist Tony Kakko shares the background on the band’s dedicated YouTube channel:
“The idea for this channel came about when I caught myself shooting a lot of video with my mobile phone on this latest Latin-American tour. As there was a lot of time to kill on the hotel rooms and airports, I figured trying to edit these bits and see what I can come up with. At least it might be something our families might enjoy to watch. I have to admit I am way lazy when it comes to compiling all the thousand of photos I´ve taken on tours and showing them, explaining where I´m at, what´s that and who or what are these… half the time I CAN’T EVEN REMEMBER! So obviously the other function would be to serve as my ‘spare memory’ for the years to come. Anyhow, the band and crew seemed to approve and enjoyed the humor, so I just kept on bugging them all with my ‘camera.’ As a result I now have [material] for 6 to 8 15minute episodes: The first season of SONATA’s television series of our great adventures all over the world.
“The quality is what it is, as my equipment is what it is, and my skills in editing are what they are. None of it is very professional, but besides the point, I think that: We want to offer you all, including our families, friends and relatives, a glimpse of what the life on the road is. Everyone is welcome to see what happens on stage, as a member of the audience… but the behind-the-scenes world, it´s something else. I sure wish I could have my personal fast forward-button sometimes (something you will see on this documentary)… Waiting in many forms, but also some precious, glorious moments you would happily slow down and watch frame by frame, again and again and again. We travel the world, see and visit places and often wish we could share it all with our loved ones. Well, this is one way of doing just that. In a goofy kinda way. And now we want to give you all the same opportunity.
