KEEP IT TRUE X: 04. – 05.04.2008

Lauda-Königshofen, Germany

Review and Pics by Herr Nabel

If one festival is now known as THE festival of classic heavy metal, it must be Keep It True. The tenth version of KIT was sold out in a few weeks. That should come as no surprise once you see the lineup. Everybody who has been there knows the deal, you never manage  to catch all the bands, to buy all the vinyl, to drink all the beer, and to meet all your friends. But we tried, oh yes we tried I can tell  you…

KISS – Paul Stanley

PAUL STANLEY

INTERVIEW AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

TRANSCRIPTION BY JARNO HUOVILA

After a long last Gene "Demon" Simmons and Paul "StarChild" Stanley, the two remaining pillars of the institution that KISS has become, have finally been lured away from their extra-curricular activities (ranging from "reality" television to art galleries and musicals). Along with Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, stand-ins for the legendary "Space" Ace Frehley and "Catman" Peter Criss respectively, they’re now ready to rock the nations once more. With the first leg of the KISS ALIVE 35 -tour in the South Pacific  now behind them, next in turn will be the old world, Europe. Paul Stanley was kind enough to shine some light on matters still laying ahead for Kiss and some that, for many, should perhaps remain buried in the past. Even with 35 years worth of history, when it comes to kicking ass live, KISS still have their sights set on the future. Rock on.

ANTHONY ESPOSITO – part II – Ace Frehley band, ex-Lynch Mob

ANTHONY ESPOSITO

INTERVIEW BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ AND JARNO HUOVILA

LIVE PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

In the first part of this candid interview, current ACE FREHLEY bass player, Anthony Esposito, spoke about working, touring and recording with Ace during the past 2½ years. This second part concentrates on his career prior to hooking up with the Space Ace.

Anthony Esposito first got to taste success in 1990 when he joined up with George Lynch and Mick Brown of Dokken fame and singer Oni Logan in Lynch Mob and put out the splendid WICKED SENSATION record. The follow up album, a classic rock album featuring new singer Robert Mason was released in 1992 during the zenith of the grunge phenomenon and suffered from the changing musical climate. Other internal factors within the band were also starting to disrupt the momentum. For the past decade Anthony focused primarily on running his own studio in New York City where he produced and engineered such bands as Misfts, New York Dolls and The Ramones. In this second part of the interview Anthony recounts some of his experiences with these great bands and more.

The legendary Space Ace Frehley, of KISS fame, finally returned to Europe, after almost a decade, and unleashed his first solo shows in the UK in twenty years. Present were all the hallmarks fans could have possibly have wished for, from the career spanning spectacular set list to the smoking guitar. Along with his new band, comprising of Anthony Esposito [ex-Lynch Mob], Scot Coogan [ex-BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION] and Derrek Hawkins, Ace practically brought the house down and proved to any doubters, that he’s back! The day after the band’s spectacular performance at London’s Astoria, we hooked up with Anthony Esposito, Ace’s bass player, to catch up on the latest happenings in Ace World. Screaming For Vendera:

An Interview With Vocal Coach Jaime Vendera

Interviewed by EvilG

Questions by EvilG, HannTu, and Rick

Jaime Vendera

I’m sure many of you have seen the Mythbuster episode where the metal vocalist shatters a wine glass with his voice? Well that dude is none other than Jaime Vendera. He’s been making a name for himself not only for his glass shattering vocal ability, but for his renowed vocal training and coaching. In this interview we talk about what brought Jaime into the vocal coaching world and of course all about vocals.

KRYPTOS – Vocalist & guitarist Nolan Lewis

May 11th, 2008
by Luxi Lahtinen

KRYPTOS vocalist & guitarist Nolan Lewis

Interview by Luxi Lahtinen

India obviously isn´t one of those countries that one expects great metal to com from. This of course has pretty much to do with people´s sheer ignorance and prejudices that way too many of us have about India, about 80% out of all population living there, being Hindus.

Kryptos, one of the most leading metal forces coming out from that country, got a lot of good response internationally for their debut album SPIRAL ASCENT that came out in 2004. The band´s 2nd album, THE ARK OF GEMINI, which is schedeled to be released worldwide through Old School Metal Records on June 13th, 2008, will hopefully bring Kryptos on another level of success that they would truly deserve.

The band´s frontman Nolan Lewis explains further about the making of the THE ART OF GEMINI, also giving a very insightful view into the the current state of heavy metal in India, as well as cutting down some of those strange prejudices that at least one poor, somewhat misleaded reporter obviously had about a relationship between the government of India and heavy metal in general, prior to this conversation (poor me – an ignorant fuck).

CHAOSWEAVER´s Max Power & Thab Picard

May 9th, 2008
by Luxi Lahtinen

Chaosweaver. Puppetmaster of pandemonium. Controller of disorder.

Max Power and Thab Picard

Interview by Luxi Lahtinen

These 7 Finnish modern messiahs of everything sinister and majestic, have existed since 2004. Within those 4 years they have managed to turn many people´s attention toward them by their atmospheric and ominous sounding dark metal which has been finely culminated on the band´s debut album, titled PUPPETMASTER OF PANDEMONIUM; a bombastic collection of a greater musical art that shouldn´t question the fact of how ambitious and insane the troops of Chaosweaver are.

PUPPETMASTER OF PANDEMONIUM is just the beginning for more madness to come, and the band´s bassist Max Power and keyboardist Thab Picard were keen on diving deeper into their dark and unexplored waters and telling more what kind of plans they have for a world domination…
