Melodic metal favourites LORD have unveiled their latest touring venture, taking them across Australia once again, including trips to the far north, as well as making their way back to Japan for the second year in a row. The band have also announced their latest EP release ‘Return of the Tyrant’ which will be released in the coming months.
Commented LORD main man LT, “We’re finally able to announce the tour dates for the rest of the year. This was a logistical nightmare with so many other high-profile acts touring Australia right now, meant that some places we wanted to get to just weren’t realistic this time around. This tour will also include our run of shows in Japan with DORO and Jaded Heart, which we’re extremely excited about”
“The other great news is we have a new LORD release out soon; an EP entitled ‘Return of the Tyrant’. Anyone who has followed our history knows about Dungeon, the band that spawned LORD after it dissolved in 2005. Dungeon had a popular song called ‘Tarranno Del Mar’ – a fun pirate themed song that LORD still enjoys playing to this day. We felt it was time to revisit the story and write the next part in the saga. The song ‘Return Of The Tyrant’ is full of piratey singalongs and is nearly ten minutes long, so it’s quite an epic! Apart from that, we have some cool cover songs and a whole bunch of cool interpretations of LORD and Dungeon songs, so there’s quite a lot of material for an EP. We’ll be revealing the full track list and cover art really soon.”

LORD was formed from the ashes of DUNGEON who disbanded in 2005 after world tours with the likes of MEGADETH, NIGHTWISH, EDGUY and more, and has since gone on to tour with bands such as QUEENSRYCHE, SAXON, GAMMA RAY, NEVERMORE and released three well-received albums. The band recently released a tongue-in-cheek cover of KYLIE MINOGUE’s “On A Night Like This”, which become an instant success, and must see for many.
Monolit and Symfomania present their new CDs in Kyiv
(Kiev or Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine for those geographically challenged)
Review and photos by by Orchidee Stachelig
Perhaps all fans of the band Monolit were aware that the guys were about to release their debut album. Finally it happened on the 16th of June at a presentation which took place at a Bingo club. There has been a massive advertising campaign all around Kyiv and in other cities that the band is known in, and it was surprising (and pleasant, of course) for me to see the ads at all underground stations – I was proud to know the guys in the picture.
The presentation was a double concert – the female band Symfomania plays symphonic metal was also presenting a CD. It was their second recording named “Aria”. It consists of cover-versions of hits of a famous Russian rock/metal band Aria. By the day of the presentation, the CD had not been released yet.
ICED EARTH mastermind, Jon Schaffer, has developed a new project, SONS OF LIBERTY, with the purpose of spreading awareness about the current state of affairs worldwide. Schaffer’s goal for this project is not to sell records, t-shirts or tickets, but rather wake people up and to get them to start researching and talking with each other. The album hits stores today and features a lengthy and very detailed booklet with stellar content. The brand new website www.sons-of-liberty.net is now active, so be sure to head over now to find out what this message is all about.
Schaffer further states: “I’m proud to finally see the physical release of Brush-Fires of The Mind happen. This is all about the message, so please spread the word!”
Check out the new video at the link below where Schaffer discusses the concept behind the song “Jekyll Island”, and the book it’s based on – a core principle to the topics covered in the band’s lyrical content. Also, catch a special interview with Schaffer and G. Edward Griffin (author of The Creature From Jekyll Island). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WAyUdgOEOA
Schaffer handles all vocals and instrumentation for SONS OF LIBERTY, but the effort also features guest solos by legendary producer Jim Morris, ICED EARTH guitarist Troy Seele and world-class bassist, Ruben Drake. Born from Schaffer’s desire to stimulate curiosity about a pattern of global banking corruption that is undermining the independence of people and their countries, SONS OF LIBERTY aims to spearhead a multi-faceted and peaceful resistance of the tyranny being wrought every day on regular people
ICED EARTH has confirmed four special North American shows this fall. Meant as an “Escape From The Studio,” these exclusive dates will also get fans the chance to experience SONS OF LIBERTY on stage for their first-ever live performances.
VIP packages via www.icedearth.com are still available on a very limited basis. Regular tickets sales via Ticketmaster and all other outlets have begun and will be subject to local service fees.

Metal-Rules.com recently interviewed Jon and here is what he had to say about the upcoming live dates:
Metal-Rules.com: I know you are doing 4 live dates in September with Iced Earth and Sons of Liberty on the same bill. I can imagine a full tour where you had to play in both bands might be a bit tiring, but do you think it might happen or maybe Sons of Liberty might go out on their own tour?
Jon: Well if Sons of Liberty grows to the point where we can sell some tickets, then yeah I can see that happening. I can see something happening with Iced Earth, it would be very tiring for me but we may do that. The problem is, here’s the situation – I would love to get Sons of Liberty out on the road to do something like on a cool tour to do an opening so the message can get out to more people. But the problem is, even though I am the founder of Iced Earth, that doesn’t mean that Sons of Liberty automatically translates into ticket sales or into album sales. It’s a brand new thing; it’s like a baby band starting off with maybe a little bit more of a kick because I’m involved in it. But to go out on the road as a support band, if a bigger band comes along and understood we were a baby band and offered say $500 a show…well you know it’s $1000 a day for a tour bus and you’ve got all these other costs. I can’t do that and go into a proverbial black hole of debt. It’s got to be the right situation. Maybe that is sucking it up and doing it with Iced Earth because if some of the guys in Iced Earth play live with Sons of Liberty which is what we are going to do now at least. At least for now the costs are already there because Iced Earth is on tour and the guys in the band are into it. They like it, and they like the message. So I would love to do it. We have some financial challenges facing us with that and that will probably be the biggest obstacle. Metal-Rules.com: I was going to ask you, for the shows in September 2010, who will be playing with you exactly?
Yeah it’s going to be Brent Smedley (drums), Freddie Vidales (bass), and Troy Seele (guitars). Then a guitarist named Matt O’Rourke from Vegas will be playing my parts because I’m just gonna do vocals, I’m not going to play guitar and sing. I don’t want to be trapped behind a mic stand and not be able to walk around in between the songs and talk to the people.
Metal-Rules.com: Do you think that will feel kind of strange to not have your little shield in front of you when performing live?
Jon: Absolutely dude! I’m a little nervous about it; I have to admit, because I’m not a singer. But I feel like I have to do it and especially September 10th is the night before the gigantic march on Washington D.C. And that’s the reason why we are doing that as the first show. So it’s a while different world for me.
July 13, 2010 – Los Angeles, CA based hardcore/thrash metal purveyors OBSCENE GESTURE featuring members of BODY COUNT, STRUNG OUT, and AGENT STEEL of have posted 3 new songs on their new official MySpace. ‘Bad Idea’, ‘I’m Sick’ and ‘Question’ come off the band’s forthcoming album, ‘Forever Obscene.’
First bursting onto the scene with 2006’s ‘Living In Profanity’ and touted as a “a ‘lovely’ stick of dynamite up conservative America’s ass!” by Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles magazine, OBSCENE GESTURE are a highly volatile combination of East Coast hardcore and West Coast thrash. “We’ve all grown up on stuff like Slayer, Agnostic Front, Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies, Crumsuckers, and Dark Angel,”, reflects frontman Guy Green. “And the way S.O.D. brought hardcore and metal together on ‘Speak English Or Die’ was very inspirational to us collectively so all that comes out in our music. This new record is probably a little bit more hardcore leaning compared to our debut – pure, unadulterated Obscene Gesture doing what we do best. We’re currently looking for a new label so hopefully we can get the album out before the end of the year.”
‘Forever Obscene’ was recorded with the help of Roy Z (HALFORD, DOWNSET), John Ewing (SLAYER, KORN), and Horacio Colmenares and mixed by guitarist/co-vocalist Vincent Dennis at In-Sinc Studios in Los Angeles, CA. OBSCENE GESTURE was originally conceived by vocalist Guy Green and original drummer Chuck Profus (AGENT STEEL), with bassist George Robb (AGENT STEEL, LSN, DETENTE), and guitarists Vincent Dennis (BODY COUNT, STEEL PROPHET) and Juan Garcia (AGENT STEEL, EVIL DEAD) joining the fold for ‘Living In Profanity.’ The band’s current line-up features Green, Dennis, Garcia along with new arrivals Chris Aiken (STRUNG OUT) on bass and Keith Stanley on drums, respectively.

New York, NY:Roadrunner Records are delighted to announce the signing of boisterous Welsh metal quartet REVOKER. Hailing from the depths of Wales’ Rhymney Valley, the band will soon start work on their debut album with Skindred’s Benji Webbe for an early 2011 release.
For a vote of confidence in the band’s bright future, look no further than Monte Conner, Roadrunner’s Senior VP A&R. Conner enthuses, “Revoker are one of the most ass-kicking unsigned bands I have heard in a long time and I am beyond proud to welcome them to the Roadrunner family. Believe it or not, in my entire career at Roadrunner, they are the first UK band I have signed.”
Although Revoker officially formed in Spring 2006, frontman/guitarist Jamie Mathias and guitarist Chris Green have been playing in bands together since they became teenagers. The band’s engaging 19-year old mouthpiece Mathias comments, “Getting signed to Roadrunner is amazing and almost surreal. I’ve grown up listening to bands like Megadeth, Slipknot and Machine Head. So to be a part of the same label as them is nuts! I think Roadrunner is the perfect home for Revoker!”
Green echoes his thoughts: “It’s mind-blowing! If I could have picked any label then this would be it. I think this is the perfect label for us to be joining with. It’s amazing to be part of such a mammoth roster with bands we’ve looked up to for years ourselves.”
“If there’s one label any metal band dream of signing to, it’s Roadrunner!” said bassist Shane Phillips . The group is rounded out by Jack Pritchard on the drums.
With the UK’s Hammerfest and Download Festival already under their belt, not to mention praise-inducing support slots with Skindred and Soulfly, expect to see a lot more of these formidable youngsters as they take on the world!
Says Skindred’s Benji, “It was not just the music that drew me to Revoker – although they blew me away – it was their attitude of ‘we got it and we’re going to give it to you like it or not.’ From watching them live for the very first time and then going on to help them sculpt their songs, I knew it would only take a push in the right direction to make them explode from their sleepy Welsh hamlet onto the worldwide metal stage – and now with the help of Roadrunner they’re about to do just that.”
Revoker are managed by Blood Company/Good Fight Entertainment (Atreyu, Bleeding Through, Chiodos, Children Of Bodom, Every Time I Die) and booked by ITB.
Sweden’s genre-defying THERION have issued the following statement:
“We are sad to confirm that Snowy Shaw has suddenly decided to not do any of the upcoming shows with THERION. This decision took us by surprise, because, up to now, we have had a great collaboration. The reason is simply that he has been working on an album with another big band (as a bass player – that came as a surprise too!), who have now offered him a deal he felt he could not refuse. We don’t think this is a good decision, but accept the situation and wish him good luck.
“We realize many will miss Snowy, who did a great job during the more theatrical direction THERION took during the Gothic Kabbalah era (as well as on the coming album, Sitra Ahra). Like all the other close guest collaborators in the history of the band (Mats Levén, Andy “the bald guy” Engberg, Karin Fjellander, Sara Jezebel Deva, Martina Hornbacher, Dan Swanö…), he contributed with something unique and put his mark on the ongoing THERION development. And just like the choice of Mats Levén was questioned in the beginning, (for being too rock ‘n’ roll for THERION) and later became a beloved part of the band’s identity at the time, Snowy also made the journey from being regarded as a somewhat odd choice to becoming a popular character in the THERION show.
“This vacancy, however, gives us an opportunity to yet again take a different direction. We are right now in the process of creating the new production that will be used for the Sitra Ahra World Tour, and we have some thrilling options to choose from. As always, THERION will deliver something unique and challenging that will turn the water of the skeptics into the wine of a classic set-up. Stay tuned!”
THERION recently revealed the artwork to their new album, Sitra Ahra, on their homepage. Mixed by Lennart Östlund (Led Zeppelin, ABBA) at the legendary Polar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, the new albumwill be released later this year.
The track listing for Sitra Ahra is as follows:
01. Sitra Ahra
02. Kings Of Edom
03. Unguentum Sabbati
04. Land Of Canaan
07. Cu Chulain
08. Kali Yoga III
09. The Shells Are Open
11. After The Inquisition: Children
In May 2009, Johnsson announced that vocalist Thomas Vikström (ex-CANDLEMASS) had official permanent member status. Johnsson recently recruited Christian Vidal (ex-The Road Vultures, ex-Cuero) from Argentina as the band’s new guitarist, who his live debut with THERION on June 4, 2010 in Mexico City. Comprising THERION’s new rhythm section are Johan Koleberg (Animal, Zan Clan, Lion’s Share) on drums and Nalle “Grizzly” Påhlsson (Treat, Zan Clan, Vindictiv) on bass.

CATTLE DECAPITATION, in conjunction with IndieMerchCo, is pleased to announce the CALIFORNIA BLOOD TOUR!!!
Cattle Decapitation to hit the road with Devourment, Knights of the Abyss, Burning the Masses, and Sons of Aurelius starting late September in support of their current album ‘The Harvest Floor’
AGOURA HILLS, Calif. – July 12, 2010 – CATTLE DECAPITATION is pleased to announce they will be back out on the road in the US on a headline run dubbed the CALIFORNIA BLOOD TOUR as it features bands mostly hailing from CA. Joining the mighty grind metalers CATTLE DECAPITATION is DEVOURMENT (TX) plus searing acts such as KNIGHTS OF THE ABYSS, fellow San Diegans BURNING THE MASSES and newcomers SON OF AURELIUS. Select dates also feature Sacramento’s SLAUGHTERBOX and San Diego’s own purveyors of brutality, CONDEMNED. This will be CATTLE DECAPITATION’s final US tour for The Harvest Floor record, as the band will commence the writing of their 5th Metal Blade release at the end of the year.
CATTLE DECAPITATION vocalist Travis Ryan had this to say about the tour:
“We’ve had this idea for a tour that was mostly comprised of California bands for quite a while now. I don’t know, there was just something about the term ‘California love’ (popularized by Tupac Shakur) that never quite sat right with us so we came up with something a little more fitting, considering the level of brutality that California has always had under its belt. From the seedy sewers in the big cities to the ‘Cowshwitz’ communities of central CA to the inhospitable depravity of the dry desert, we decided it was time to show the rest of the US that CaliGOREnia is not just about hippies, silicone bodies and marijuana dispensaries (not that there’s anything wrong with that, haha!)”

Knoxville, Tennessee doom metallers PLACE OF SKULLS are pleased to announce the upcoming release of their long-awaited fourth full-length entitled As A Dog Returns. The follow-up to 2006’s The Black Is Never Far was recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville by Travis Wyrick and founding guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin (Pentagram, Death Row, Cathedral, Joe Hasselvander) with drums recorded and engineered by Mike Dearing. Said Griffin of the band’s latest output: “The new album As A Dog Returns picks up dynamically where The Black Is Never Far left off. Where The Black… album had a bit more of a depressive theme lyrically, the new album tends to look to a brighter outcome. Musically we’ve gone further than ever before with dynamics and production. Though all the PLACE OF SKULLS’ brand of heaviness you would expect is certainly there, there’s a nice ebb and flow with quieter parts which tend to set a very dramatic and melancholy mood at times to the overall album.
“With every album we’ve done,” he continues, “our growth and progression has been evident, and this new release is no different. I’m really enjoying the growth of my songwriting as time goes by. I don’t feel as if I have anything to prove so I think the writing gets more open, honest, and genuine with every release.
We’re very excited to finally get a new album out and hit the road again! Look for As A Dog Returns to be available in late September!”

The debut album from Canadian death metallers MASSIVE SLAVERY is Global Enslavement and was produced by Yannick St-Amand, who is responsible for producing such acts as Despised Icon, Beneath The Massacre, and Neuraxis. The album was recorded at Northern Studio, Northern Quebec in January, and was mixed and mastered by Pierre Rémillard (Anvil, Kataklysm, Misery Index) at Wild Studio, north of Montreal in February.
“Global Enslavement” will be released on July 26th, through Maple Metal Records, the label launched by John Belrose, producer of Exciter’s “Heavy Metal Maniac”.
MASSIVE SLAVERY hail from the towns of Val d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda, the gold-mining district in Northern Quebec.
The province of Quebec, Canada has traditionally been a hot bed for great metal talent and now MASSIVE SLAVERY can be added to that illustrious list.
Born from a concept conceived by bassist Marc-André Barrette (ex-Paroxysm) and guitarist Joël St-Amant (Descend into Nothingness), Massive Slavery was officially created in the winter of 2009.
Having previously worked with Joel in “Descend into Nothingness”, drummer Pierre-Alexandre Mercier (Decrepity) did not hesitate to join the crew. Even if the band were still looking for a frontman, they began to write and work on fresh material.
After a couple of months of hunting around, their search was finally over when vocalist Jonathan St-Pierre landed the role, to round out this new quartet.
His addition to the band gave new dynamics, and a boost of energy to push the band into finalizing the writing of their first album.
The collaboration of this musical assault GLOBAL ENSLAVEMENT, combines a mix of melodic, brutal and technical death metal.
“In these dark times when the future of humanity seems to be put in danger by individualistic and corrupt leaders, four musicians from Canada work on a musical plan aiming to reach the ranks of opposition, already well established in the middle of extreme metal.
Like a wakeup call, their goal is to alert and open the eyes of our society, to reveal the sad and brutal reality, often unseen or denied by man. It’s under this shadow of complete disillusion towards our civilization that MASSIVE SLAVERY emerge from collective ignorance, in order to defend and promote an engaged movement of resistance, fighting against the manipulators of our system.”
MASSIVE SLAVERY is:
Jonathan St-Pierre – vocals
Joel St-Amant – guitar
Marc-André Barrette – bass
Pierre-Alexandre Mercier – drums
2. Shade of Corruption
3. Global Enslavement
4. The Denial of Man’s Regression
5. Destroy, Rebuild, Repeat
6. A Cold Interlude
7. Wider We Open Our Eyes
8. Pull the Plug on Modern Civilization
9. Humanity’s Last Hope
10. Generalized Cyberphobia

When I read up on what Jon Schaffer’s new project, Sons of Liberty, was about, I was interested in talking to Jon about the message. Often with interviews, the focus is on the music, the upcoming tour, etc, and while that is covered here, the main things we discuss are the ideas that Jon is getting out with Sons of Liberty. Rather than editorialize, let’s step into the mind of Jon and hear firsthand the important issues that has been occupying the thoughts of the Iced Earth mastermind over the past 1-1.5 yrs.
LOS ANGELES, CA – MONDAY, July 12, 2010 — Metalheads, rejoice: North America’s biggest thrash tour in 20 years is announced, as 1991’s original American “Clash of the Titans” lineup – Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – will tour together once again on Leg Two of the “American Carnage Tour.” This trek kicks off September 24 at Verizon Wireless Theatre in Dallas, TX and will play 20 dates, including New York’s Nassau Coliseum, concluding at Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on October 21.
On Leg Two of American Carnage, Megadeth will continue to roar through its landmark 1990 album Rust in Peace from front to back, while Slayer will rip the roof off by performing its much-lauded Seasons in the Abyss album, which was also released in 1990. Anthrax recently welcomed back singer Joey Belladonna, who defined the band during its heyday, and now permanently back in the band, will be front-and-center.
In the spirit of beating the recession, there will be pre-sale discounts on all tickets in most markets (see below for more details), and if that’s not enough, a limited amount of $10 tickets will be available in many cities – log onto any of the bands’ websites or onto Ticketmaster’s site for those details.
But wait, there’s even more. For Leg Two of the “American Carnage Tour,” Megadeth has teamed up with iloveallaccess.com to provide fans with VIP experiences including priority venue access, meet and greets, parties, exclusive gifts and more. Logging onto www.megadeth.com will provide those details. Plus, fans who purchase their tickets online at either www.slayer.net or www.ticketmaster.com will receive a free download of the live audio track “War Ensemble,” set to be included on Slayer’s forthcoming, as yet unannounced, “Live Intrusion” DVD release.
Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax will kick off the second leg of the “American Carnage Tour” on the heels of the historic “Big Four” Sonisphere Festival concerts they played with Metallica in seven European cities this summer. The dates marked the first time that these four bands – acknowledged as the most influential bands of the thrash genre – had shared a concert bill.
The original “Clash of the Titans” tour united the three forces of thrash metal for the entire summer of 1991, with then-little known Alice in Chains serving as the opener. This tour, which falls under the “American Carnage” banner, isn’t rewriting history, it’s writing a whole new chapter of head-banging history that is sure to delight fans new and old.
Megadeth and Slayer return to North America late this month to co-headline the east coast “Canadian Carnage Tour,” and then starting August 11, the first leg of the “American Carnage Tour” (dates below) with Testament as Special Guest. The tour was originally scheduled for a winter 2010 run, but was postponed when Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya was forced to undergo neck surgery. But as is the case for anything good in life, this tour will be well worth the wait.
