Keel is an American hard rock / metal band originally formed in 1984 in Los Angeles. The band is best known for their rock anthem "The Right to Rock" and their mid 80’s success albums THE RIGHT TO ROCK and FINAL FRONTIER which both were produced by KISS bassist Gene Simmons. Their classic lineup included vocalist Ron Keel, guitarists Marc Ferrari and Bryan Jay, bassist Kenny Chaisson and drummer Dwain Miller and they stayed together until 1988 when Ferrari and Jay decided to leave the group. The band replaced them with keyboardist Scott Warren and guitarist Tony Palmucci and managed to release one more album LARGER THAN LIVE before they slowly disbanded in late 1989. The classic lineup did a brief reunion in 1988 and released a collection of unreleased material under album title BACK IN ACTION but it wasn’t until 2008 before they made a decent return. The new Keel studio album STREETS OF ROCK’N ROLL saw the light of day in early 2010. I had the pleasure to sit down with Ron Keel in Stockholm in September of 2010 and discuss the reunion, the future of Keel, and various other topics including Ron Keel’s other bands and projects: Fair Game, Iron Horse, Saber Tiger, Ron’s country music years and working with Gene in the 80’s and… read on !

Los Angeles, CA – MONDAY, November 15, 2010 — Counting down to the band’s 30th anniversary, Slayer’s Kerry King sat down and talked about “The Vinyl Conflict,” the band’s high-end, limited edition vinyl box set that was just released. Representing Slayer’s entire American Recordings catalogue, “The Vinyl Conflict” begins with 1986’s genre-defining “Reign In Blood,” and goes all the way up to the band’s most recent release, 2009’s “World Painted Blood.” It’s the musical history of Slayer all in one uber-cool box, and on this video clip, King shares a few memories about all ten of the releases.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of tens of thousands of children and young adults in the United States. In the 1950s, few children with Cystic Fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond. The possibility of a cure is only limited by dollars. Money buys science and science buys life, hopefully one day CF will stand for “Cure Found
WE SIGN LICENSING DEAL FOR CANADA WITH E.M.I. FOR “SMASH HITS UNPLUGGED”
This week we returned to the E.M.I. fold by signing a licensing deal with Canada E.M.I. for “Smash Hits Unplugged”. E.M.I. won’t be releasing the CD until January, but in the meantime I’m allowed to sell the units I have at live gigs, on Ebay, and through Planet Helix. Last night at Molly Blooms we sold 20 units and at the release party today at Planet Helix I’m sure we’ll go through a whack as well. We’ll also be releasing two songs to radio in January: That Day is Gonna Come to rock radio and Dream On to Hot AC. For any of you that pick up the CD please let me know what you think the first single should be. Email me at email@example.com MOLLY BLOOMS SOLD OUT Last night’s show at Molly Blooms was once again sold out and the club was packed to the rafters. Thanks to all of you who made it out for the show. Also Gary Kelly for having us. BARRACUDA PRETTY THIS THURSDAY We’re in St. Catherines (Daryl’s hometown) this upcoming Thursday, November 18th at Barracuda Pretty. This is a HTZ presents and we’ll be going into the studio in the afternoon to play a couple of songs acoustically as well as going to supper with the station’s contest winner. HTZ will be giving out 20 station shirts plus 20 “Smash Hits Unplugged” to other contest winners as well. Should be a fun night. If you live in the Niagara region we hope that you can make it out to the show.
VAGABOND BONES REALITY SHOW
Throughout all these gigs we’ve been busy filming for the pilot for our reality show “Vagabond Bones” with Pat Portelance, Mike Valenza (sound), and Thane Silliker. I felt kinda sorry for all three of them last night at Mollys as they were getting knocked around in the crowd. Definitely guerilla filming! Mike and Pat will be coming out west with us for our three day stint at the end of the month and then in December we’ll start editing everything down. It’s a long process and we’re working on a shoestring budget, but ya gotta walk the walk if you’re gonna talk the talk. As well as the live gigs Pat has also been filming me while I go about my “daily” routine, which is about as un-routine as you can get. The other night, for instance, the Trailer Park Boys were in town at Centennial Hall and Rob Wells phoned me up and asked me not only to the show, but also to come over to their tour bus before the show to say hello. Lynda, Pat, and I showed up with Helix hoodies for all of them (Jean Paul wore his onstage when he came out at the end!) and Pat got some good stuff in the dressing room. Of all people who know about “guerilla filming” and trying to get someone to pick up the show, it’s them. It was their low budget film at the Atlantic film festival many years ago that got them their deal with Showcase and led to one of the most popular series on Canadian TV. Even though the show has now finished production, ironically it’s finally taken off in England and the U.S. Rob told me the dates they’ve just finished in England saw fans lining up 2 hours before showtime. Ditto for the States.
Pat also filmed me last week when I was interviewed at Rogers TV for a show they have about people over 55 and what their retirement plans are (if any). They’ve asked me to be their “poster boy” (which ties right in with the whole vibe of Vagabond Bones), to which a quickly accepted. They’re sending over a photographer to the house tomorrow to shoot me and I’m also going on-air in the morning to talk about my teaching and the new CD. As well, I also did an interview this week with CBC radio:
Last week I made a comment in the Sunday Update about Dick Wendling being a “dick”. I had the usual suspects snipe at me on Facebook-Jason Jansenkovich the main one. At first I was going to write a little “expose” on why I was so upset and also about the people attackilng me, but during the week something changed my mind. It was a dinner I had with my old friend John Ball, whom I greatly admire.
John is a very successful businessman whom I’ve known for years. We had planned some weeks ago to get together for a meal. When we went out for lunch the talk turned to the psychological aspects of success and failure (John is worth several million dollars) and also our spiritual outlook on life and how that has affected it as well. John is a person who speaks no ill of anyone, although there are probably plenty of people who he’s had bad run-ins with in his life. We discussed how talking about people and running them down was just negative energy, and so, with that in mind, I decided to refrain from getting into plastering my grievances with the aforementioned individuals all over The Sunday Update. I decided to let my reputation speak for itself instead. Those that know me personally know how I conduct my affairs & life. Those that know the people cutting me up on Facebook know how they conduct their lives as well. Thanks to all of you who came to my defense on Facebook.
Having said that however, I would still like to make a comment about London radio, as a few people on Facebook were trying to insinuate that Helix not getting airplay was nothing but “sour grapes” on my part. Consider these facts:
1.Helix is from London
2.Helix is one of the few “international” acts to come out of London.
3.Helix has sold out the last four times we’ve played London.
4.We received airplay on Bruce Dickenson’s Friday Night Radio show, Dee Snider’s House of Hair, The Boneyard (Sirus Radio), and heavy rotation on KOOL FM (Kitchener), Q104 (Halifax), and The Fox (Fredericton) as well as getting airplay right across Canada on other stations like Krock in Kingston, C103 in Moncton, Free FM in Grand Prairie, HTZ FM in St. Catherines, and The Eagle in Sarnia. “Make ‘em Dance” went to Number 31 on the Active Rock Charts (the chart most Canadian radio stations follow). Even stations that didn’t add us to their playlist had us in for an interview or did phone interviews with us (especially if the gig we were playing was being advertised on that station). In the next 5 dates we’re playing before the end of November for instance, all of the stations in those markets have interviewed the band or given us airplay.
5.Our last CD “Vagabond Bones” has also gotten airplay around the world in England, The Netherlands, and France.
BUT STILL NO RADIO SUPPORT IN OUR HOMETOWN OF LONDON, ONTARIO. WTF?
Our position is this: It’s London radio’s right not to play us, although we can’t figure out why they won’t even give us a chance. Can you? It’s OUR right to point out to London listeners what we consider an injustice. All we’re asking for is a chance, but it’s pretty hard for any of the London listening audience to have an opinion one way or the other on the song if they won’t even feature it. ‘Nuff said.
Interview with Tom G. Warrior (Triptykon) & Ravn (1349)
Conducted by Robert Williams
Videography courtesy of Sandra Torres
1349 vocalist Ravn has been a longtime devotee of the music of Tom G. Warrior, whether it’s Hellhammer or Celtic Frost or even now in Triptykon. The two had shared the stage twice before to perform the Frost classic "The Usurper". Tom Warrior felt an artistic connection to 1349 and their uncompromising dark experimental leanings. The two have worked together pretty extensively in the studio, with Warrior performing bass and guitar tracks on 1349’s cover of the Pink Floyd song "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" in addition to co-mixing and co-producing for the band. The two dark visionaries hit the road with their respective bands 1349 and Triptykon with support from Yakuza on the "Weltenbrand Tour 2010". As the North American tour comes to a close this night in Austin, Ravn once again joins Tom G. Warrior to perform "The Usurper" for a third time. Time will tell, whether the two might join forces on a new musical project, set on decimating your mind into the black aural abyss of oblivion. For now, enjoy the chat Metal-Rules.com conducted with Tom and Ravn…

The Metal Den has obtained the holy grail for Randy Rhoads fans: NEVER BEFORE SEEN LIVE FOOTAGE!
Before he rocked the world with OZZY OSBOURNE, late guitar great Randy Rhoads blazed it up with QUIET RIOT. This audience-shot footage is from Randy performing an extended guitar solo with QUIET RIOT. This extended Rhoads footage
from the Starwood on 10/25/79 was the final scheduled show for the band that Randy was fulfilling after he joined on with Ozzy…QR reunion gigs didn’t happen until the following May.
Randy had already recorded “Blizzard of Ozz” at this point, which would ultimately be released on September 20, 1980 in the UK and on March 27, 1981 in the United States. “Blizzard of Ozz”, considered one of heavy metal’s greatest albums, has sold over 6,000,000 copies worldwide.
HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS is pleased to announce the scheduled release of Shocking Its Prey, the debut release from Richmond, VA’s high-powered heavy metal quintet VOLTURE. The six track debut will be unleashed worldwide on January 25th 2011 on CD and limited edition Mini-LP formats. The tracks “Volture” and “Heavy Metal Machine” from the forthcoming Shocking Its Prey are available for preview now via the official VOLTURE Myspace profile.
With the humblest beginnings the seeds for VOLTURE were first laid in November 2008. Inspired by a mutual interest in obscure NWOBHM and early European heavy metal VOLTURE was born when friends Ryan Waste (of MUNICIPAL WASTE) and Nick Poulos over a few beers agreed to channel those mutual interests into a fully realized project. With Ryan and Nick, respectively, on bass and guitar they were soon joined by vocalist Brent Hubbard and drummer Barry Cover, who had previously worked with Ryan in 2003 in a band called IMMORTAL AVENGER. Also joining the fold was Ryan’s fellow MUNICIPAL WASTE band mate, Landphil on rhythm guitar. Throughout 2009, a demanding tour schedule with their other bands left the members of VOLTURE with minimal time to practice. Landphil left the band and the remaining four focused their attention on writing during this time. In January 2010 the four piece entered a small studio in Ryan’s neighborhood to lay down the tracks for Shocking Its Prey, sans any modern studio trickery solely relying on capturing VOLTURE’s natural ability to unleashraw, unedited heavy metal fury.
Upon putting the finishing touches on Shocking Its Prey, VOLTURE welcomed to its ranks guitarist Dave Boyd, known for his work with heavy metal stalwarts TWISTED TOWER DIRE. With the line up in place and forthcoming mini lp, workoncreating its own iconography begun by envisioning VOLTURE as an electric bird made of steel, shocking its prey to an untimely demise came into focus. This vision was brought to life by artist Sean McGrath and perfected in paint by the great Andrei Bouzikov, all under the direction of Ryan. With all of the creative pieces in place VOLTURE came to the attentionof New York’s purveyors of steel, HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS, whom will release Shocking Its Prey in all of its glory world wide on January 25th, 2011.
With tour plans and a full length album on the horizon, the future is bright for VOLTURE as they shock the music world back to life with their brand of true heavy metal!

Rockpages.gr: How would you describe the sound of the new album, comparing to what you’ve done so far. It might sound a bit more mainstream than you previous works, some might say…
Daniel Cavanagh: Mainstream is not a word that I ever use. It’s not in my musical vocabulary if you like. I don’t really know what mainstream means or anything. All I know is that it sounds like I wanted it to. It sounds beautiful, full of light, expansive, and heavy, and intense, passionate, and emotional, deep, and real, and honest, but mainstream? I don’t know!
Rockpages.gr: The album is called “We’re Here Because We’re Here”, and that is the song title for a tune the soldiers used to sing in World War I. why did you chose this album title?
Daniel Cavanagh: World War I seems to me like a useless exercise. Those boys were walking into bullets, and there was craziness, there was chaos. It was insanity on a global scale; it was the first time the world has seen such destruction. And there was no real reason for it. The guys in the field knew there was no real reason. There was no reason for them to be there. So, they were singing “We’re Heer, Because We’re Here”, because it was their defiance, it was their song of defiance.
Florida based death metal legends MALEVOLENT CREATION are happy to present,in conjunction with Bloody-Disgusting.com, the too shocking for Youtube video clip for “Slaughterhouse” (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/music/1170)! The track comes from the bands 11th studio outing entitled Invidious Dominion, andwas shot in Florida and Central City Studios in Los Angeles by young up-and-coming director Chris Cullari (WESTLAND, THE APPRECIATION POST).
“We shot a video for ‘Slaughterhouse’ the week in between our headlining tour and the ‘March of Brutality’ tour with EXODUS,” commented the band previously. “It is both a brutal homage and clever twist on horror films such as Hosteland The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, using MALEVOLENT CREATION’s music as a soundtrack to madness. 20 plus years and still no one can destroy this MALEVOLENT CREATION!”
Invidious Dominion was released on August 24 in North America via Nuclear Blast andwas produced and recorded by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, VITAL REMAINS, KRISIUN, GOATWHORE) at Mana Studios in Florida. The cover art (attached) was brought to life this time around by renownedartist Pär Olofsson (THE FACELESS, IMMORTAL, ABYSMAL DAWN).
