Ever wondered what it would be like to be on tour?
All the ups and downs, drinks and burgers from SONATA ARCTICA’s South American Tour of will now be brought to you absolutely free via SONATA ARCTICA TELEVISION.
Join the band as they travel through South America, starting from Finland on October 14th and all the way through their adventures until they get back home on November 1st. Meet characters such as Tero the “guitar tech, flight sock 1st timer, battery specialist, lingual sausage man,” learn new terminology such as “shit early,” and witness a public apology to the Mexican Government.
Season 1, Episode 1 airs November 15th 2010. New episode airs every Monday, as long as the band has material.
SONATA ARCTICA’s lead vocalist Tony Kakko shares the background on the band’s dedicated YouTube channel:
“The idea for this channel came about when I caught myself shooting a lot of video with my mobile phone on this latest Latin-American tour. As there was a lot of time to kill on the hotel rooms and airports, I figured trying to edit these bits and see what I can come up with. At least it might be something our families might enjoy to watch. I have to admit I am way lazy when it comes to compiling all the thousand of photos I´ve taken on tours and showing them, explaining where I´m at, what´s that and who or what are these… half the time I CAN’T EVEN REMEMBER! So obviously the other function would be to serve as my ‘spare memory’ for the years to come. Anyhow, the band and crew seemed to approve and enjoyed the humor, so I just kept on bugging them all with my ‘camera.’ As a result I now have [material] for 6 to 8 15minute episodes: The first season of SONATA’s television series of our great adventures all over the world.
“The quality is what it is, as my equipment is what it is, and my skills in editing are what they are. None of it is very professional, but besides the point, I think that: We want to offer you all, including our families, friends and relatives, a glimpse of what the life on the road is. Everyone is welcome to see what happens on stage, as a member of the audience… but the behind-the-scenes world, it´s something else. I sure wish I could have my personal fast forward-button sometimes (something you will see on this documentary)… Waiting in many forms, but also some precious, glorious moments you would happily slow down and watch frame by frame, again and again and again. We travel the world, see and visit places and often wish we could share it all with our loved ones. Well, this is one way of doing just that. In a goofy kinda way. And now we want to give you all the same opportunity.

Heaven & Hell’s live version of “Children of the Sea” off their Neon Nights: Live In Europe DVD has just been released. The performance was filmed in Germany on July 30, 2009 as part of the tour in support of their The Devil You Know studio album. Reactivated Swedish death metallers DESULTORY are set to release their long-anticipated new album, Counting Our Scars, through Pulverised Records later this month. The full-length — their first since 1996’s Swallow The Snake — was recorded, mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio (Watain, Unanimated, Deströyer 666 etc.) in Alvik, Sweden and features the meticulous cover art and concept by legendary graphic designer Travis Smith (Nevermore, Opeth, Amorphis, King Diamond, etc.). In addition, the record will be available with an alternate slipcase cover to truly showcase Smith’s elaborate concept.
Commented DESULTORY vocalist/guitarist Klas Morberg: “It’s been more than a year now since we entered the studio to record the first DESULTORY album in over a decade. This album will write a new chapter in the history of the band and it has been with great anticipation and endurance that we’ve waited for the cover art to take form. We wanted the whole package, from music and lyrics to the visual appearance, to communicate the same feeling, and as it turned out, this work had to take time. Now, at the very last hours of this long year, we are finally ready to reveal it all to you. We hope you think it was worth the wait; we do.”
INTRONAUT released one of the most exciting albums of the year with ‘Valley of Smoke’ and recently wrapped up an extremely successful run of dates alongside the legendary Helmet. Montreal based extreme metallers KATAKLYSM are pleased to announce, in cooperation with Decibel Magazine and SickDrummerMagazine.com, the North American leg of their “Spread the Venom 2010 – 2011 World Tour“! Joining them will be groove ladden death shredders ALL SHALL PERISH, technical/progressive death masters DECREPIT BIRTH, Sumerian Records‘ touring juggernaut CONDUCTING FROM THE GRAVE, and Relapse Records‘ modern death metal merchants ABYSMAL DAWN. This will be just a part of a massive worldwide tour, that is rumored to be the bands last before a much needed break from the bands extensive performance schedule. Don’t miss out!
“In just about a month we will embark on KATAKLYSM‘s longest one way headlining stretch crossing four continents in nearly 20 years,” commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono. “Heaven’s Venom has been welcomed with open arms by fans and critics alike across the globe. As I mentioned before in interviews, Heaven’s Venom is a very personal, aggressive and dark KATAKLYSM album that hits home. We love this album and want to share its anger with our fans! We want to play places we have never been before and also revisit our loyal supporters while creating some new fans along the way. One thing we know, is that this will be the only time you will be able to see the band on this record or for a long time. So don’t say ‘I’ll catch them the next time’ because there might not be a next time. We are thinking of taking along break after this massive trek and who knows what will happen next. So if you are a fan of KATAKLYSM you have been called to duty!”

Nevertheless with the very recognizable God Dethroned hooks present in all the songs. The forthcoming solo album from PRIMAL FEAR singer Ralf Scheepers is in the very final stages of production. Some very special guests agreed to appear – the list includes guitarists “Metal” Mike Chlasciak (HALFORD), Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY), Sander Gommans (AFTER FOREVER) and Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR, ALLEN/LANDE). Powerhouse American vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) is dueting with Scheepers in the track “Remission Of Sin“, Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, DIMMU BORGIR) appears on drums and PRIMAL FEAR’s Mat Sinner is playing bass on the entire LP and produced the album. Achim Koehler is currently in the final stages of the mixing session and will shortly be mastering the production.
Scheepers revealed that his upcoming solo album will include a remake of his song “Saints Of Rock” Scheepers originally recorded with his band TYRAN PACE and a cover version of the JUDAS PRIEST classic “Before The Dawn’. “‘Saints Of Rock’ is gonna be, of course, a little bit more modern and updated than it was [when the original version was recorded] in 1986,” he explained. “I mean, right now we have much more possibilities to make songs sound a little bit more modern, starting with the drum sound and the bass sounds.” He added, “I think ‘Before The Dawn’ pretty much is a straight cover, but the first song I’m playing (nearly) all instruments — just a little more orchestral things going on. Vocal-wise, I just added a harmony vocals, plus the two outstanding guitar solos by maestro VICTOR SMOLSKI (RAGE). The album is like a trip through my entire career from hard driven crushing metal, groovy heavy beats, orchestral epic to stripped down basic songs and of course some nice surprises!”
The musical direction of his forthcoming solo CD is more diverse than PRIMAL FEAR, from the hardest to the softest tones. The album was recently presented to the German press and some of the reactions included
“A varied, magic masterpiece! Intensive, passionate and faithful – a terrific singer!” – Markus Wosgien (Rock It!, EMP, Blast!)
“A surprisingly varied and still compact metal-masterpiece, that leaves nothing to be desired!” – Andreas Schöwe (Metal Hammer)
“The vocals and the songwriting are just terrific and you’ve never experienced Ralf Scheepers so relaxed. The album is a hit! Does the world needs a solo album of the Primal Fear singer? Yes, of course!” – Birgit Braeckle (Breakout)
Frontiers plans to release the album in February 2011.
