by EvilG

I AM I will release their cover of John Farnham’s classic 80’s track ‘You’re The Voice’ on December 10th on digital format, distributed worldwide by Plastichead and available from all the usual digital outlets.

Their rocking, feel-good cover of John Farnham’s classic 80’s song had been received exceptionally well on the band’s recent tour with everyone singing along with the memorable chorus of this great track, leading them to decide to put it out as an end of year single.

ZP also felt that the lyrical content of the track was especially relevant in this current era, mirroring what’s actually happening with the us all right now & making the timing for the single release perfect.

Written by Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson, ‘You’re The Voice’ was originally released by Aussie singer John Farnham in 1986 and was a smash hit, reaching the top 10 in most European countries.

‘Event Horizon’ to be released digitally worldwide on 10th December

I AM I’s debut album ‘Event Horizon’ will also be released worldwide on digital format on December 10th. This album had previously been released exclusively throughout Europe but due to the increasing demand for the release throughout the US, Americas, Australia and other territories, the decision was made to go ahead and release it digitally worldwide.

The album be available to Download worldwide from that date from all usual digital outlets – iTunes, Play.com, Spotify, emusic, Amazon, Pandora etc

2012 has been an incredible year for I AM I from start to finish – their debut album ‘Event Horizon’ receiving critical acclaim across the board and their first festivals and UK tour under their belts – with a new EP pending early in the year, Skid Row tour already confirmed in April and many more shows & festivals to be announced, 2013’s already looking to be another huge year for the band!

Stratovarius - "UNBREAKABLE" (EP)

Stratovarius – “UNBREAKABLE” (EP)

EarMusic is proud and very happy to announce the release of “Nemesis” the new studio album by Stratovarius, to hit the stores as standard 11-track edition as well as 13 track special edition on February 22nd, 2013.

A taste of the new studio album can be enjoyed with the Limited Edition EP “Unbreakable”, released on January 25th, 2013.

Stratovarius are hailed as one of the most influential and successful Symphonic Metal bands in the world and they have managed to establish themselves as one of the metal scene’s heavy names. The new album “Nemesis” unites all the best traits of the band’s melodic, powerful, fresh and technically elaborated metal, all spiced up with an incredible sense for melody.

The album was produced and mixed by Matias Kupiainen and mastered by Mika Jussila from Finnvox studios, who has a long history with the band. To shorten the waiting period for the album, January 25th, 2013 finds the release of the limited edition EP “Unbreakable”. It features five songs: the new album leading track “Unbreakable” and a selection of four songs from previous albums, remastered by Mika Jussila. Songs like “Falling Star” (taken from “Polaris”) and “Freedom” (taken from “Infinite”) show a different, catchy side of Stratovarius and guide the way to the new masterpiece “Nemesis”.

Matias Kupiainen about the new song: “’Unbreakable’ is a very important song to me and the lyrics have a lot of personal meaning. Sometimes you can snap out of your day to day fog and see what is important. And when you are in that special moment, when you have that special feeling, you are invincible, unbreakable; you should really stop and enjoy the feeling. Even, if the whole world falls apart tomorrow.”

Timo Kotipelto adds: “This album has a darker and more modern sound. We, as a band, have gone through a lot and we have matured as songwriters. The making of this album was easier than before, because we could give it as much time as needed.”

01. Unbreakable (taken from the brand new studio album “Nemesis”)
02. Falling Star (taken from “Polaris”)

TURISAS enters studio to record new album; announces line-up change

November 22nd, 2012
by EvilG

Battle metallers TURISAS have officially started recording their upcoming 4th studio album. The band is currently recording drums at Atomic Spa studio in Helsinki, Finland, and they will continue the recordings in different locations until the end of January. This follow-up to 2011’s Stand Up And Fight is scheduled for a worldwide release in May 2013 via Century Media Records.

TURISAS has also announced a few line-up changes in conjunction with the band entering the studio. After spending 15 years with TURISAS behind the kit, original member, Tuomas “Tude” Lehtonen, has decided to part ways with the band. Lehtonen explains the reasons behind his decision:

“I can’t tell you how hard it feels to step away from the path we’ve been walking together for the last 15 years – and to start a new era in my life without the band. There are many reasons for me to quit the band. The stress from the years spent on the road and different artistic visions have lead to a mutual decision for me to step back and hand over the drumsticks to the next guy. In any case, it has been a great experience and all the memories from being on the road are something that I will always cherish. The biggest thanks go to all of the past and present members of the band, not to forget all the technicians and fellow drummers I’ve met on shows and on tour – and, of course, especially to all the fans that have allowed us to grow to the level that TURISAS are at today. Good luck and lots of success to all my bandmates – I feel that I will never be straying too far away from the band. I shall always be proudly carrying the heart of TURISAS wherever I go. The man can leave the band but the band will never really leave the man. Battle Metal!”

Along with Lehtonen, TURISAS’ current tour bass player, Jukka-Pekka Miettinen, will part ways with the band as he needs to focus on his own musical projects. The relationship with both members remains friendly and amicable. Their official farewell party will happen at TURISAS’ special New Year’s Eve show on December 31st, 2012 at Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland.

In light of Lehtonen’s and Miettinen’s departure, TURISAS is proud to welcome two new members to the band: their new drummer, Jaakko Jakku, who has already started recording his drum parts for the upcoming album, and their new bassist, Jesper Anastasiadis. Both are excellent musicians with great personalities, and the rest of the band is already looking forward to the upcoming shows.

After the new album is finished at the end of January, TURISAS will appear on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise (http://70000tons.com/), which kicks off on January 28th in Florida; then they’ll head out on their headlining “Guards Of Glory” tour throughout North America and Latin America. Work on the band’s second LP, “SHOWDOWN” is completed and its worldwide release is scheduled for March 2013. Audio samples of the forthcoming second album, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

The new album was produced/mixed by Italian producer team Dysfunction Productions (Anthony Phillips, John Wetton, Logan Mader, etc.) and mastered by US senior mastering engineer Ue Nastasi (Gojira, AC/DC, Lamb Of God, Anthrax, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc.) from Sterling Sound Studios. The album artwork for the effort feature the hand of UK graphic designer Mr. Storm Thorgerson, who has previously worked with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Audioslave, among many others.

After the lucky outset of their first album “Broken Uncle’s Inn” back in 2011, the band is ready to strike the world with a massive amount of rock n’ roll once again.

Voodoo Highway is a powerful new quintet featuring Federico Di Marco (vocals), Filippo Cavallini (bass), Matteo Bizzarri (guitars), Alessandro Duò (keys) and Vincenzo Zairo (drums).

Have been indicated as one of the new revelations worldwide and defined as “the new Deep Purple” from such a big name in music as the former Rainbow/Black Sabbath/Gary Moore bassist Craig Gruber.

Now known to most for the outrageous stage presence, crashing executions, a style that hovers between Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and The Darkness and for smashing instruments on stage.

The year 2013 will see Voodoo Highway marching straight to Hell!

SKID ROW guitarist Dave “Snake” Sabo

November 22nd, 2012
by Marko Syrjala
Skid Row - Dave "Snake" Sabo

New Jersey based Skid Row were one of the very last metal bands to hit the mainstream before grunge took over in the mid ’90s. The band’s self-titled debut was released 1989 including such a standard pop-metal classics as “Youth Gone Wild”, “I Remember You” and “18 & Life”. SLAVE TO THE GRIND followed in 1991 debuting at number one in Billboard charts! The third album SUBHUMAN RACE was released in 1995 and it did break the band away from the pop-metal world and introduced more heavy and a darker side of Skid Row. The changing trends in the music business and personal differences eventually caused the classic line-up; vocalist Sebastian Bach, guitarists Dave “Snake” Sabo, Scotti Hill, bassist Rachel Bolan and drummer Rob Affuso break up in 1996. Eventually the core lineup: Sabo, Bolan, Hill and Affuso continued for some time to work together under the working title Ozone Monday. Skid Row was re-formed in 1999 with a pair of new members; vocalist Johnny Solinger and drummer Charlie Mills. The band released its fourth album THICKSKIN in 2003 featuring drummer Phil Varone (ex-Saigon Kick). The latest Skid Row album REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE came out way back in 2006. This November the band  accompanied KISS, for the second time in row, on the KISS Kruise. We were honored to sit down with Dave “Snake” Sabo and discuss about various topics including Snake’s KISS fandom, the current state of Skid Row, the continuous rumors about Bach’s return and as well as some stuff from the past. Read on!

GAMMA RAY: German Power Metallers To Release Skeletons & Majesties Live CD In North America Next Month

November 21st, 2012
by EvilG

Legendary German power metallers GAMMA RAY will unleash Skeletons & Majesties Live as a two-CD set next month via Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records. Set for North American release on December 4, 2012, Skeletons & Majesties Live is a near two-hour magnum opus spanning the band’s history and includes classics as well as tracks which were under-represented to date. A DVD version will be released stateside in January. Skeletons & Majesties Live was recorded and filmed during the band’s 2011 European tour at the legendary Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland and  is the first properly HD-filmed live video production of the band’s epic 20+ year career.
“The [2011 released ] EP, Skeletons & Majesties, is practically a continuation of our Skeletons In The Closet concept, in other words: new versions of songs which didn’t receive the attention they deserve, as well as unplugged versions of some of our classics,” notes founding vocalist/guitarist Kai Hansen.

The DVD offers up a thoroughly gripping performance, from the dynamic openers “Anywhere In The Galaxy” and “Men, Martians And Machines” to the furious finale/Helloween cover “Future World.”

As a special bonus, to accompany the Hansen-penned Helloween classic on stage, GAMMA RAY enlisted the services of former Helloween frontman Michael Kiske. In addition, Kiske can be heard and seen on “Time To Break Free” and “A While In Dreamland”.
The release of Skeletons & Majesties Live will mark the beginning of an eventful 2013 for GAMMA RAY: After Hansen stayed true to his word and spent 2012 concentrating mainly on his second band, Unisonic, he and his three colleagues, guitarist Henjo Richter, bassist Dirk Schlächter and new addition, drummer Michael Ehré (the Firewind/Love.Might.Kill drummer has replaced Daniel Zimmermann, who left the GAMMA RAY fold on friendly terms) are now focusing exclusively on GAMMA RAY once again. A co-headlining European tour with Helloween has been scheduled for March and will also mark the arrival of a new GAMMA RAY studio recording. Stay tuned for release dates and further details.

GAMMY RAY will have top priority in 2013,” comments Hansen, “and Skeletons & Majesties Live is the perfect harbinger of this!”

NILE Debut “Enduring the Eternal Molestation of Flame” Video!

November 21st, 2012
by EvilG

The reigning kings of technical historically-themed brutality, NILE, have posted the music video for “Enduring the Eternal Molestation of Flame”. The clip was produced and directed by Jon Simvonis for Magnum Production Studios Co. and Arctos Broadcast Facilities. It also features the African Heritage group and photography by Philippos Kokkalis.

“It was truly an honor to direct the new NILE video; a band with so many diehard fans and such a strong impact in the metal scene,” commented Simvonis. “The video concept, as a matter of fact, was inspired by the culture and the ritual habits of the Ancient Nubia, a region along the Nile River, which is located in northern Sudan and Southern Egypt. The research and design elements of the video led to a really interesting combination of the Ancient Egyptian myths, through the prism of the Nubian African Voodoo Burial rituals. Two worlds set so close, yet so far from each other.”

NILE will tour the United States once again this March and April with 28 shows supported by three of the best local bands in every market. NILE will play two massive sets with music spanning their prolific, twenty year career. Exclusive pre-sale tickets are available now at EnterTheVault.com.

“In order to commemorate our 20th year as a band,” states guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders, “we want to bring NILE and all metal fans an evening of NILE music that spans our entire career and play two full sets with only a brief intermission. After years of many package tours, the necessary set time restrictions have often meant that NILE’s had to streamline our set. Fans didn’t always get to hear the songs they came to hear. Thankfully, some of those classic NILE songs we have been itching to play for years will now get a chance to be heard live. We are extremely fired up.”

“Another facet of this tour which was very important to us,” continues Sanders, “we have asked promoters to include the best three local bands from their respective areas on the bill. Supporting local bands in each city is a way for us to give something back to younger bands and the metal scene. We’ve asked promoters to keep ticket prices low, so that fans of all ages can come and join us for an evening of metal. In these difficult times of our recessionary economy, an evening of killer metal shouldn’t have to break the bank. NILE are going to do our part: biting the bullet and rolling the dice to bring metal fans in the USA an unforgettable evening with NILE for a reasonable ticket price. We are sincerely looking forward to seeing all our friends and fans at the shows in 2013!”

As you may have noticed from the pics taken during the last shows, it is some months already that two new faces have been on the stage in Overtures’ line up: after more than 9 years together, both former members Daniele Piccolo and Marco Falanga – for personal reasons that the whole band understands and accepts – had to give up the stage. Marco and Daniele have been two of the guys who created Overtures, they helped the band in its growing up, they have been vital in the development of the sound and it is thanks to the choices made together that Overtures reached some important goals. They are and they will always be part of Overtures’ history and part of the family, and we all wish them all the best! At the same time we are really proud to announce that STEFANO D’AMORE and ADRIANO CRASNICH will officially take their place as stable members of the band. Stefano D’Amore already was the lead guitarist of Speed, Adriano Crasnich already plays with Frame of Pain and Hammered. Since a few months they already are part of Overtures and as you may have heard (and seen) during the last shows, their great taste and their good choices let the band continue its course exactly where it was stopped with the previous members, without changing or modifying anything. Both Stefano and Adriano already took part in the recordings of the third album ENTERING THE MAZE, that will be released in the first half of 2013 with our label Sleaszy Rider Records. At the same time we are happy to announce that the recordings are actually over: in the next days we will close the mixing of the album to pass, in a few weeks, to the mastering process.

There are some more important news yet: we are really pleased to announce the new collaboration between Overtures and the German agency B.MUSIK MANAGEMENT, that will be pub in charge of the booking and management of the band. B.Musik boasts in its rooster Iron Savior, Athorn, Elvenking and worked with Edguy, Rage, Hammerfall, Gotthard and many others. For the details: b-musik-management.de

If the conspiracy theorists are right and December 21, 2012 marks the apocalypse, Red 7 will provide the perfect soundtrack, as a cataclysmic lineup of Austin’s metal, punk and rock legends come together for one last blowout show.

Recover, At All Cost, Employer, Employee, Pack of Wolves, Visitors and Assacre are all confirmed for one-time reunions at the party, with sets from the Krum Bums and Spiritual Wives. Full lineup listed below.

With fiercely loyal cult followings, the bands reuniting for the show were extremely influential for many young musicians in Austin, and served as springboards for countless musical careers. “These bands pushed the limits of Austin’s music scene during their time, and sadly, weren’t appreciated until after they had disbanded,” says Red 7 Manager Joaquin Ramirez, who put together the lineup.

Members of Recover went on to form Young Love, who released two successful albums on Island/Def Jam Records, and their drummer, Jimmy Vela, now plays with The Sword. Mike Carrigan (At All Cost) is now touring the world with metal giants Darkest Hour, and Trey Ramirez (At All Cost, Pack of Wolves) has teamed up with Jason Reece (Trail of Dead) to form Spiritual Wives, to name just a few of the seminal scene’s musical offshoots.

Vela, who will play with Recover during a short break from The Sword’s massive world tour, says he’s not sure exactly what it is about his old band’s music that still resonates with so many fans, but he’s excited to reunite with friends.

“We may have just hit the right chord within certain people. We are thankful people still consider us their favorite band,” he says. “We all usually come home during the winter holidays so its fun to be able to have the opportunity to do these ‘get together’ shows since we all live in separate cities. Recover obviously isn’t our main objective any more, but it will always remain part of who we are.”

The show further cements Red 7’s reputation for pulling in seemingly impossible lineups, including At The Drive-In’s first show in 11 years and a recent surprise show from Green Day. “Once bands play here, they get involved with us, and it’s hard to play anywhere else,” says Ramirez. “We love to make the musicians we admire happy.”

A limited number of reduced-price Early Bird pre-sale tickets for the “Party At The End Of The World” are available now via Transmission Entertainment: http://bit.ly/SJ5qdc

MASSDISTRACTION was founded by the end of 2007 by guitarist Jon Hjalmarsson and his brother Per. The band has undergone numerous line-up changes before finding the current and final line-up consisting of guitarists Jon Hjalmarsson and Ali Nassadjpoor, drummer David Larsson, bassist Kalle Möllerström and last but not least the metal monster vocalist Mikkjal G. The album was recorded and mixed in a six months period and was later mastered by the famous heavy metal mastering engineer Dragan Tanaskovic (In Flames, Mustasch e.t.c.) at Bohus Sound in Kungälv in 2012.

The acclaimed Swedish magazine Close-Up praised “Follow The Rats” and called it a: “A cool debut that claims an ample space in the mosh pit..”. Furthermore the daily newspaper City Malmö accompanies with: “Massdistraction sets the bar at Olympic levels from the very start”.
