REVAMP, featuring ex-AFTER FOREVER singer Floor Jansen, have issued the following tour report:
“Ninth show: Tuesday, October 5th – Itay
It was nice to have had a day off! At the end of that day I wished we could have another. It was so relaxing and nice. But when we came to the venue that feeling was all gone! But the weather was cloudy and a bit cold. That wasn’t what we expected, we’re in Italy… it should be sunny.
Well, half hour later the clouds moved and it was so great to be out in the sun! I had a nice breakfast and tried to upload video report number 2. The internet connection wasn’t fast enough so I had to do this in Switzerland. We had a relaxed schedule that day. We played late so there was enough time to eat and get ready before the show.
During the afternoon many people already came to the venue to meet us. It was heartwarming to be welcomed so nicely! The Italian audience was so happy to see the ex-After Forever singer back.
When the show started everybody went crazy immediately. Yeah! After the first song or maybe second they started chanting: “Floor”. I thanked the audience from the bottom of my heart but also introduced ReVamp.
A few songs later they chanted: ”ReVamp! ReVamp”!!! How amazing that felt! Also after the show I met a lot of fans and everybody seemed so happy to see me again and to like ReVamp a lot. I got a second chance with this new band and it’s so great to see how good it’s being pickup up!”
The world has lost one of it’s greatest rock singers: GOTTHARD frontman Steve Lee was killed in an accident during a motorcycle trip in the USA on Interstate 15 between Mesquite and Las Vegas and died at the scene.
The Gotthard singer had flown to the US with some biker friends last weekend to fulfill a long-cherished dream for which he’d never had the time, due to his heavy touring schedule for many years. It was to be two weeks through the states on a Harley Davidson. The 21 Swiss bikers started their journey on Sunday on a total of 12 motorcycles. On Tuesday, October 5th, about 50 miles from Las Vegas, the group had stopped at the roadside to put on their rain gear as it had started to rain. On the slippery road, the trailer of a passing truck began to skid. The driver attempted evasive action but his trailer clipped five of the motorcycles parked at the roadside; one of them hit Steve Lee. Rescue services attempted resuscitation but efforts were stopped after 20 minutes. At 4:13 PM local time, Steve Lee was pronounced dead.
Among the passengers were Gotthard bassist Marc Lynn and Lee’s girlfriend Brigitte Voss Balzarini. All other fellow riders were unharmed. Steve Lee was 48 years old.
With Steve Lee, we not only lose one of the world’s best rock voices but also an extraordinary personality. Despite his enormous successes, the singer had retained a very subtle eye for detail and often impressed the people around him with his sensitive observation. Due to his personality, he had a serious outlook, without losing his sense of humour and lust for life. Steve Lee met his environment with respect but always had, in his gentle way, a very simple, personal touch. He understood like no one else how to enjoy without going too far – to him, alcohol and parties were things he met with level-headedness. The singer sold several million albums throughout his career with Gotthard, several of them reaching platinum, double or triple platinum status.
As well as the legions of devastated fans, Steve Lee will be greatly missed by all who knew him for his personal greatness outside of his band’s achievements.
As previously reported, an In Memoriam video can be found at this location.

EARACHE RECORDS is proud to announce a new signing to our diverse and talented roster. DIAMOND PLATE is a young, dynamic thrash band from Chicago, IL who have taken the midwest metal scene by storm and now have their eyes set on global domination. Formed in 2008, this 3-piece high-energy act encapsulates the spirit of “The Big Four” and has already earned high honors from respected outlets such as Terrorizer magazine, who named DIAMOND PLATE as one of the Best Unsigned Bands in the very year that the band first got together.
Currently in their late teens, guitarist, Konrad Kuplec, drummer, Jim Nicademus and vocalist/bassist, Jon Macak have played with some of the world’s biggest metal acts. They have also have earned a reputation as an absolutely raucous live act. Despite all of the great praise in high places, DIAMOND PLATE feels their fans are the most important key to their early success. As Konrad Kuplec puts it, “The BEST praise we can get is having a kid seeing us at one of our shows for the first time and then coming over to our merch table and buying a shirt or cd. It’s the most humbling and coolest feeling in the world. I’ll always be grateful for the support our fans give us.”
DIAMOND PLATE‘s full length debut album comes out in 2011
Los Angeles, CA’s ABYSMAL DAWN recently wrapped up the recording and mixing process to their new album and follow up to 2008’s Programmed to Consume.
“We’ve been working on and off in the studio on this album since May and now we’re finally done,” commented ABYSMAL DAWN guitarist/vocalist Charles Elliott. “After a series of set backs, illness, and going through a world of shit in our personal lives, we had no choice but to make this record our revenge and the defining moment for ABYSMAL DAWN. We’ve had the finished mixes for about a week now and everyone that has heard it has been just blown away. We can already tell that this will be the record that the band will become known for. It’s a very varied, extreme, technical, and melodic record and I can promise you that no one will be disappointed.”
The yet-untitled album’s drum parts were recorded at Trench Studios in Corona, CA with John Haddad (PHOBIA, INTRONAUT, HIRAX). The majority of the sessions were produced and recorded by Mike Bear (ARTISAN, ex-PROTOTYPE), at Artisan Road Studios in Encino, CA and the CD was mixed and mastered by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, GOATWHORE, HATE ETERNAL) at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL. OSLO, Norway – Mortiis returns to satiate fans’ desire for new music this October 10 with “Perfectly Defect,” a completely free, full-length, downloadable album.
“Putting ‘Perfectly Defect’ out as a free download was a decision we made after some consideration,” said the band’s namesake Mortiis. “The new model of the music business is important to keep in mind; there´s a new mentality out there in terms of how people acquire their music now. For better or worse, music seems to have become a medium a lot of people aren´t prepared to pay for in the old fashioned way. So, we paid to record it out of our own pockets ‘cos we thought it would be a really cool gift to our fans that have been waiting around for ages for something new to come out.”
Mortiis has spent much of the past couple years writing and recording “The Great Deceiver,” the long-awaited follow-up to 2004’s full-length “The Grudge” and the 2007 remix album, “Some Kind of Heroin.” “Perfectly Defect” is the quintessential prelude to the world of “The Great Deceiver” – while the latter is heavier and darker, the former is varied, experimental, and largely instrumental. The bottom line is that “Perfectly Defect” leads into “The Great Deceiver” acting as a crucial stage in the evolution of Mortiis’ music.
“When we were writing and working on ‘The Great Deceiver’, we were coming up with all sorts of inspired stuff, a really varied collection of music,” Mortiis offered. “Some of it was far too varied and experimental to be included in such an angry, dark album as ‘The Great Deceiver’ so we created a brand new album that is the introductory element to the more intricate world of ‘The Great Deceiver.’”
“I think we really captured a cool vibe here,” Mortiis enthused. “It’s not easy marrying anger with melody, but I believe we did it. The songs on ‘Perfectly Defect’ were created across a period of time, and I believe it shows in terms of what inspired these songs. They’re rather soundtrack-y in a dark and sometimes bombastic way.”
With the concept of digital distribution came a new empowerment for Mortiis – one where the artist controls his own artistic destiny.
“After our record deal finally expired, I had developed a profound aversion to the very idea of letting other people control my art, my lifework,” he said. “So, again, the idea of the new technology really did grow on me. We dealt with some really evil stuff in the industry. Nothing shocking in terms of industry practice, but at a human level, it was a living nightmare. It reached a point where we fired everyone around us except for the handful of people we knew we could trust. It was a big move, but had to be done in order to survive. It was like rewinding the clock back to the start and beginning with a clean slate. We started working on a ton of new music right then. With the advent of modern technology, we realized we could do a lot of stuff without the often self-serving, meddling record labels. No record label would ever have let us put out an album for free, with the option to donate if the fans wanted to.”
The album will be available at www.mortiis.com beginning on October 10. There is no cost for the download, but donations to cover the cost of recording may be made through the website.
