“Sarcofagus Live in Studio 1979” Brand New Black & Clear Vinyl LP Release

This is the first ever official vinyl release of this forgotten “Sarcofagus Live in Studio 1979” tape by the grandfathers of Finnish Heavy Metal. This tape was made in Pan Studio, Helsinki Finland, during a single recording session in May 1979 and buried in time soon after. Lately the tape was rediscovered and is now available on limited high quality vinyl, as it should be! The Vinyl is newly mastered respecting the original tape master.

These early tracks are a brilliant document of the birth of Sarcofagus – the music has its roots in blues and progressive rock, as the band was still searching for its distinctive heavy metal style. Finnish national radio played some of these songs, which then led to a record deal and the rest is heavy metal history.

Technical Info:
The Black Limited Edition 180 gram version, only few copies available! 350 gram heavy rough gatefold covers plus a large 16 pp booklet with liner notes and unseen photographs.
The Clear Limited Edition beautifully remastered on 140 gram clear vinyl! 350 gram heavy rough gatefold covers plus a large 16 pp booklet with liner notes and unseen photographs!

January 11th, 2011

Lightning Strikes Twice

** SPECIAL GUEST STEVE LUKATHER **

Marks After the Rain 20th Anniversary with Critically Acclaimed Sequel Release

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 11, 2011) – Multi-platinum recording artists NELSON led by twin lead front men Matthew & Gunnar Nelson announced the U.S. release date of their new original album Lightning Strikes Twice, a seamless sequel to After the Rain their classic multi-platinum debut album as they celebrate the 20th Anniversary milestone of the phenomenal record and its #1 Billboard hit “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection”. EMI / Frontiers Records USA / Stone Canyon Records will release the new NELSON album sequel Lightning Strikes Twice in the U.S. on February 15, 2011.

To coincide with the new release and 20th Anniversary of After the Rain, EMI / Frontiers Records USA / Stone Canyon Records will also release twin (2) NELSON catalog albums:  Before the Rain the demo collection of songs that secured their recording deal with Geffen Records in 1990 and Perfect Storm – After the Rain World Tour 1991 live concert album. The North American release of the twin rare NELSON albums on February 15, 2011, will be a complement to the release of NELSON’s brand new original album sequel Lightning Strikes Twice.

“LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE is the creative masterpiece NELSON has waited over 20 years to unveil,” enthuses Gunnar Nelson“It’s given us the opportunity to resolve some unfinished business musically and artistically. American fans have waited long enough.  We’re thrilled the U.S. release is finally here.”

“The forecast for 2011 is incredible with releasing three NELSON albums,” adds Matthew Nelson“We are thrilled to be releasing our new original NELSON album LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE in the United States.  Plus, NELSON fans should enjoy the journey through the time capsule provided by these rare collectible albums – BEFORE THE RAIN and PERFECT STORM.”

Lightning Strikes Twice was recently released in Europe and the U.K. to overwhelming critical praise.  Frank Thiessies of Metal Hammer Germany writes, “The two blonds have done the almost impossible: a comeback sequel as strong as Meatloaf’s BAT OUT OF HELL II. This sequel alone has more hits than Bon Jovi’s made in 18 years over 6 discs.”

Britain’s well-known music critic Alison Joy, who originally dubbed NELSON “the Timotei Twins” in Kerrang! in the U.K. back in 1990, writes in CLASSIC ROCK / AOR Legends magazine that Lightning Strikes Twice is “absolutely and unexpectedly awesome!”

“NELSON’s return has been hailed by the Melodic Rock press as one of the highlights of the year,” affirms Serafino Perugino, President & C.E.O. of Frontiers Records. “These results, along with the intrinsic quality of the album, make Frontiers extremely proud of this artistic cooperation. We look forward to more albums together with NELSON”.

After the Rain was the debut multi-platinum album by NELSON in the early 1990s. They zoomed to number one with their hit song,  “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection,” which made history landing America’s iconic Nelson family (bandleader Ozzie Nelson, rock legend Rick Nelson, and twins Matthew & Gunnar) into the Guinness Book of World Records as the ONLY family in Entertainment with three (3) successive generations of #1 hitmakers.

NELSON’s After the Rain record and tour became a phenomenon just prior to the rise of grunge.  The last major success of the good time rock’n’roll era, NELSON has had (1) Number One, (4) Top Ten, and (5) Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hit singles, plus (5) #1 MTV videos and has sold over 6.5 million albums worldwide!

Nelson has always been synonymous with entertainment in America. Matthew and Gunnar follow Ozzie Nelson’s vision of embracing connecting with people and audiences through all forms of media. They have been doing television-hosting work for VH1 and E!

Plus, Gunnar co-hosted LIFETIME Radio’s nationally syndicated morning show.

NELSON has been headlining at major rock festivals around the globe celebrating the 20th anniversary of After the Rain.  Touring in China, the U.K. where NELSON headlined the Firefest Rock Festival in 2010, and of course the U.S. where they have also toured extensively with Peter Frampton and Styx. A NELSON world tour in 2011 will soon be announced.

Lightning Strikes Twice tracklisting includes:

Call Me; Day By Day; Ready, Willing and Able; How Can I Miss You?; You’re All I Need Tonight; To Get Back To You; When You’re Gone; Take Me There; Come; In It For The Money; Change a Thing; Kickin’ My Heart Around.

The first single from the album released “You’re All I Need Tonight” andCall Me” are available to listen online exclusively with full in streaming on Frontiers Web radio. www.frontiers.it/webradio

WHITECHAPEL drummer Kevin Lane comments on his recent departure

January 11th, 2011
by EvilG

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. – January 10, 2011 – Recently Knoxville, TN’s WHITECHAPEL and drummer Kevin Lane mutually decided to go their own ways and the internet is already abuzz with rumors as to the reasons behind the split. Kevin offered the following statement to answer fans questions as to why the drummer and the band parted ways:

“Over the past years I’ve had the experience of a lifetime and gotten to travel the world with not only a great band of musicians but some of my best friends. Unfortunately that time has come to an end. My playing had a falling out over the past year, thus I’ve decided to come home for good and go back to school full time. The past few tours I had the privilege of my good friend Gavin Parsons to fill my shoes and now another phenomenal drummer who I believe will do leaps and bounds of improvement to the band as a whole, Ben Harclerode has moved into the position until the decision for a full time drummer has been made. Thank you to everyone for all of your support.”

Founding member and guitarist Alex Wade adds: “It’s sad to see Kevin go, he was not just a fellow band member, but like a brother to all of us. I think it is honorable of him to step down to better the band. He is still and always will be an amazing drummer and talented musician; I believe it is just time for a new chapter for Whitechapel. That being said we would like to welcome Ben Harclerode (formerly of Knights of the Abyss) to the band to fill the drumming position. In my opinion he is one of the most solid and talented drummers in modern metal and we couldn’t be more excited for him to be playing with us. Ben will be helping us out until we take further measures to decide on a permanent drummer, but that is just something that is not needed right now, nor are we taking submissions. Come welcome Ben on our upcoming headliner and watch him shred his kit!”

Catch Ben Harclerode and the rest of the WHITECHAPEL guys as they tour across the states as headliners on the Welcome to Hell Tour featuring The Acacia Strain, Veil of Maya, Chelsea Grin, and I declare war.

HAVOK: Denver Thrashers Return With Their Second Studio Offering Cover Art + Track Listing Revealed

January 11th, 2011
by EvilG

HAVOK - Time Is Up

HAVOK - Time Is Up

On their 2009 Candlelight debut, Burn, Denver-based HAVOK quickly proved to metallers of all walks that they were far more than your average fly-by-night thrash act. Even Fear Factory’s Gene Hoglan took note of the young band saying, “HAVOK lays it down old-school heavy like a sharp stick in the eye.”   Time Is Up, the band’s follow-up to Burn, will be released via Candlelight Records on March 29, 2011. Featuring ten tracks mixed by the legendary James Murphy, the record immediately showcases the band’s collective penchant for writing mammoth thrash anthems and the flawless musicianship that’s come from the last year’s worth of tireless live performances including national tours with Primal Fear, Hatchet, Hammerfall and Wretched, as well as regional dates with Destruction, Cephalic Carnage, Exodus, Anthrax and others. Blistering guitar and drum work once again highlight the record, particularly on standout tunes like “Prepare for Attack,” “Fatal Intervention,” “Covering Fire,” and “Scumbag In Disguise.” Bringing it all together is striking cover art by illustrator Halsey Swain. Check it out HERE.

Time Is Up Track Listing: 1. “Prepare for Attack” 2. “Fatal Intervention” 3. “No Amnesty”
4. “D.O.A.” 5. “Covering Fire” 6. “Killing Tendencies” 7. “Scumbag in Disguise”
8. “The Cleric” 9. “Out of My Way” 10. “Time Is Up”

HAVOK formed in 2004. After two self-released albums, the band caught the attention of England’s Candlelight Records and by the Spring of 2009, the band unleashed Burn to the metal masses. The album peaked on CMJ’s Loud Rock chart at 15 and broke MediaGuide’s Top 10. Continued radio play came from KBPI/Denver, KUPD/Phoenix, WKLL/Waterville NY and WSOU/South Orange NJ. Music Choice and the syndicated metal program Full Metal Jackie also gave HAVOK repeated airtime.
HAVOK will kick off their first tour in support of Time Is Up next month as support for Florida death metallers Malevolent Creation. Stay tuned for tour dates and further info.

CORPSESSED To Unleash Debut EP Through Dark Descent Records

January 11th, 2011
by EvilG

Finnish death metal outfit CORPSESSED has signed with Dark Descent Records for the CD release of their self-titled debut EP. Scheduled for an early 2011 release, the EP features six tracks of bludgeoning old-school death in the vein of Entombed, Incantation, Deicide, Immolation and Grave. Select tracks from the EP have been posted on the band’s official Myspace site, while more information on CORPSESSED can be found on their Facebook page. A video for the song “Altar Of Worms” can be viewed at this location.

CORPSESSED was spawned from putrescent slime in 2007, after the dissolution of an earlier project Skullfucker. Vocalist Niko Matilainen (Skullfucker), guitarist Matti Mäkelä (Tyranny, Wormphlegm) and drummer Jussi-Pekka Manner (Skullfucker, Pohjoinen Kuri) were joined by guitarist Jyri Lustig (Cardinals Folly) and the (de)composing of morbid death metal tunes began at the rotting houses of the Järvenpää delta-area.

The group’s original bass player Mikko Mäkelä disappeared in unknown circumstances, but was replaced in 2009 by Mikko Pöllä (Azure).

Look for CORPSESSED’s debut EP out soon on Dark Decent Records (CD only), with vinyl treatment coming courtesy of French label Ostra Records.

THE ACCUSED Announce New Drummer Band To Unveil New Video

January 11th, 2011
by EvilG

Like a bunch of zombies drunk on embalming fluid, veteran hardcore thrashers THE ACCUSED prepare to take their Splatter-Rock-Speakeasy and After-Hours-Sicko-Sideshow into turbo-nuclear-tombstone-kicking overdrive with the announcement of a new stick-breaker in Warren A. Pease (pronounced  “war ‘n’ peace”) Said the band in a collective statement: “He’s a relatively young chap at the tender age of 25. Then again, with THE ACCUSED founding guitarist, Tommy Niemeyer rounding the corner heading into half-century territory, who isn’t young to that old fucker? Warren, or ‘Andy’ as he’s affectionately referred to most noticeably at first brings his youthful enthusiasm and perpetual grin to THE ACCUSED. But don’t let the friendly face fool you into thinking this is some run-of-the-mill, trigger-tapping tom-tom-tickler. No! The young Mr. Pease possesses an absolutely mind-boggling, pile-driving, double-kick drumming style that will make you wonder if he’s got extra appendages hidden away back there somewhere. Having the freshly-plucked Warren A. Pease now on drums will up the ante for all who are dealt-in when THE ACCUSED bring their horror-filled freak show to the stage sometime early 2011. The Kings of Splatter Rock are back with a vicious and brutal hardcore attack.”

In related news, THE ACCUSED will unleash a new video for “Hemline,” the seventh track off The Curse Of Martha Splatterhead, released via Southern Lord Recordings last year. The video is a mini-Splatter epic starring the lovely and terrifying Martha Splatterhead, was shot in three locations from Marysville, Washington to Los Angeles, California and directed by Federico Aragon. A worldwide premiere of “Hemline” will be announced for later this month. Be sure to check the band’s website for further instructions!

STRYPER TO PLAY AT THE SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL!

January 11th, 2011
by EvilG
STRYPER

STRYPER

The titans of Christian metal! In the 80s, California’s Stryper ranked among the greatest in melodic metal. Albums like “To Hell With the Devil” (1986) sold millions of copies and songs like “Free”, “Honestly” and “Always There For You” became smash hits on MTV. Consequently, many of Stryper’s fellow Christians claim that the band were not “true” believers. This frustrated the quartet, who gradually switched styles and eventually dissolved. However, history redeemed Stryper’s legacy, and the band reunited permanently in 2003. Their music and lyrics are once more reminiscent of the golden age, and currently Stryper’s third album since the reunion, the cover release “The Covering”, is pending release. Many have yearned for the band to come to SRF, and now they finally will – in their classic original line-up featuring brothers Michael and Robert Sweet (vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), Oz Fox (guitar) and Tim Gaines (bass).

HELLOWEEN – bassist Markus Grosskopf

January 11th, 2011
by Marko Syrjala

Helloween_new.jpg

Helloweenlogo.jpg

INTERVIEW AND LIVE PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

Helloween is a German power metal band founded in 1984 in Hamburg by Kai Hansen on vocals and guitar, Michael Weikath on guitar, Markus Grosskopf on bass and Ingo Schwichtenberg on drums. Helloween were one of the pioneering and also most important bands of the 80’s European heavy/speed/power metal scene. Their early albums HELLOWEEN and WALLS OF JERICHO fared comfortably but it wasn’t before band hired a new vocalist, the 18 year old Michael Kiske, and released albums KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS pt.I and KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS pt.II before the band hit the big time and found their worldwide success. Hansen left in 1988 and he was soon replaced by Roland Grapow. The following album PINK BUBBLES GO APE was somewhat disappointing both sales and musical wise and next they tried to break some new grounds with 1993’s CHAMELEON. Instead of taking a heavier approach, the band ventured into completely new territory. They were eschewing its signature double-guitar harmonies for synthesizers, horns, acoustic guitars, country music, grunge and everything in between. Some changes were needed and so Michael Kiske and then seriously troubled drummer Schwichtenberg were let go. In the late 1993 Helloween found itself from a very difficult situation. There was no singer, no drummer, and no record contract (EMI released the band from its agreement because of the disappointing sales numbers of PINK BUBBLES GO APE and CHAMELEON).

Helloween returned in 1994 with a renewed line up which included vocalist Andi Deris (Pink Cream 69) and drummer Uli Kusch. They also had a new record deal with Castle Communications and as a result MASTER OF THE RINGS was released later on that year.  The new incarnation of the band proved to be very successful and the following albums TIME OF THE OATH, BETTER THAN RAW and THE DARK RIDE did all great both commercially and critically. But still, more changes followed when Grapow and Kusch were released from their duties in 2002. New guitarist Sascha Gerstner stepped and made his first Helloween album appearance on RABBIT DON’T COME EASY in 2003. After having several drummer candidates in the early 2000’s, it was Motörhead’s Mikkey Dee who played on the RABBIT album, the band finally found a permanent player when former Rawhead Rexx drummer Dani Loble joined in 2005.  The current lineup has so far released three studio albums: KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS pt.III – THE LEGACY, GAMBLING WITH THE DEVIL, their latest opus SEVEN SINNERS, one live album KEEPER OF THE LEVEN KEYS – THE LEGACY WORLD TOUR 2005-2006 and the Anniversary album UNARMED – THE BEST OF 25’TH ANNIVERSARY. It seems that the band, despite all those changes and troubles in the past, is now enjoying this time of their lives and there’s no end in sight. Helloween started their latest world tour to support SEVEN SINNERS and in November and in the middle December 2010 they came to Finland to play two sold out shows. In Helsinki we had chance to sit down with Mr. Grosskopf and discuss the new tour, past changes, and various other topics… Read more!!

Accept’s BLOOD OF THE NATIONS Takes #1 Spot in Metal-Rules.com’s BEST OF 2010

Rejuvenated German heavy metal legends, ACCEPT, took the #1 spot Metal-Rules.com’s annual best of list. The album easily took the top position beating out their fellow countrymen, Blind Guardian, who took the #2 position in the chart.

Best Metal Album of 2010: Accept - BLOOD OF THE NATIONS

Best Metal Album of 2010: Accept - BLOOD OF THE NATIONS

BLOOD OF THE NATIONS is Accept’s 12th studio album. It’s been a very long time since their previous release – 1996’s PREDATOR. Since then, the band has undergone a few changes, the biggest being in the lead singer department. Former T.T. Quick front-man Mark Tornillo has taken over the reigns from Udo Dirkschneider and is filling his combat boots rather well.

Hopefully this line-up has a few years in them and can build upon the greatness of the pure heavy metal found on BLOOD OF THE NATIONS!
