TMD has obtained one of the earliest known live audience recordings of legendary MÖTLEY CRÜE performing “Live Wire” at the Whisky A-Go-Go in West Hollywood, California on December 11, 1981.
Mötley Crüe was founded on January 17, 1981 when bass player Nikki Sixx quit the band London and began rehearsing with drummer Tommy Lee and vocalist/guitarist Greg Leon. Lee had worked before with Greg Leon in Hollywood glam metal act Suite. The three jammed together for some time with Leon ultimately deciding to leave the fold. The bassist and drummer then began a search for new members. Sixx and Lee soon met guitarist Bob “Mick Mars” Deal through an ad in “The Recycler”. Mars was immediately auditioned and then hired to join the lineup. The group was still in dire need of a lead vocalist. Tommy Lee had known Vince Neil from back in their high school years. Upon seeing him perform with the group Rock Candy at the Starwood in Hollywood, Mars suggested Mötley Crüe hire Vince.
The act’s debut single was “Stick to Your Guns/Toast of the Town,” which they put out on their own label, Leathür Records, which had a pressing & distribution deal with Greenworld Distribution in Torrance, CA. It is also known that the single was distributed at concerts they performed at.
During November 1981, their debut album Too Fast for Love was self-produced and released on Leathür, selling 20,000 copies. This soon led to interest from Electra records.
It’s a rare glimpse nearly three decades back in time at the Crue rocking it out in their blazing Hollywood club days. Strap yourselves in for some heavy metal history!
Thanks to Target Distribution for providing the promotional pictures of the band.
I had the pleasure to have a chat with Claus Nielsen guitarist in the thrashy heavy metal band Anoxia from Denmark. What we talked about can be read down below but I can say that we talked a lot about their brand new debut album A LAPDANCE FOR THE DEVIL. Anoxia is definitely worth checking out if you’re into heavy metal.
Classic Rock is reporting that Lemmy, the highly-anticipated film exploring the life and career of rock icon and MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister, is be screened at cinemas across the UK on December 7th.
A list of all the cinemas where you can see the film can be found at Classic Rock.
Lemmy will receive its official UK premiere on Saturday, October 23rd at 9 PM at the London Film Festival at NFT1 BFI South Bank. Additional screenings will be held that following week in London.

Lemmy made its world premier in March 2010 during South by Southwest (SXSW) Film and Music Festival in Austin, TX.
Lemmy was directed and produced by Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski, who spent three years shooting the long-awaited documentary. Lemmy captures the 64-year-old embodiment of the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle as he travels the globe, relaxes at home and plays to sold-out audiences from Seattle to Moscow, among several other surprises. It finds Kilmister candidly opening up about his life and career, and features appearances by such friends/admirers as METALLICA, DAVE GROHL, SLASH, OZZY OSBOURNE, Billy Bob Thornton and professional wrestler Triple H.
KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque (pictured) has confirmed to BraveWords.com that he has joined forces with past and present members of HAMMERFALL and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN to form and as-yet-unnamed supergroup.
Says Andy, “We are recording just a few songs to start with, just to see if there is interest in this thing.”
The lineup is as follow:
Magnus Rosén (bass – ex-Hammerfall)
Andy La Rocque (guitar – King Diamond)
Anders Johansson (drums – Hammerfall, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen)
Mats Olausson (keyboards, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen)
Mikael Ågren (vocals/guitar – ex-NOSTRADAMEUS)
The group will be working on the new songs at La Rocque’s Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden. Stay tuned for further updates.
MOTÖRHEAD mainman Lemmy Kilmister has re-recorded the band’s legendary ‘Ace Of Spades’ at half the tempo as a blues number for use in an advertising campaign for Kronenbourg 1664 titled Slow Down The Pace. Check out the commercial, as well as behind-the-scenes footage from the recordings below.
BraveWords.com recently received the following press release regarding the campaign:
Heineken UK is bringing Kronenbourg 1664 back to the small screens with the first TV support for the premium lager band since 2006 with the launch of ‘Slow The Pace’, a new integrated advertising campaign which breaks this week.
The first execution in the new campaign shows iconic rock band Motörhead performing a slowed down version of their classic track, ‘Ace Of Spades’.
30 years to the month since it was first written, the track has been specially re-written by the band for a Kronenbourg 1664 campaign that will encompass TV, press and digital advertising, a short-film documentary and a social media activity..
‘Slow the Pace’ is rooted in the idea that Kronenbourg 1664 is a beer with a lingering complexity that deserves to be savoured slowly. The concept will be brought to life over the next year in a series of executions based on unique musical collaborations with leading artists commissioned to re-write and record a slowed down, chilled out version of one of their most famous fast tracks.
The campaign begins with a reworked version of Motörhead’s fast and furious, ‘Ace of Spades’.
The ad, which will launch as a 60-second TV execution, was shot in a French bar and shows patrons relaxing and chatting while Motörhead play the new version of the song, with founder member and lead singer Lemmy on harmonica rather than his familiar electric bass guitar.
The film documentary charts the process of the band re-writing the track in the studio through to the ad shoot. All film assets will be housed on www.youtube.com/k1664. The track will be available for download at k1664.co.uk.
Lucas Bergmans, Senior Brand Manager – Kronenbourg 1664 at Heineken UK said, “Showing Motörhead performing a memorably different version of their legendary ‘Ace Of Spades’ track as they enjoy Kronenbourg 1664 is a powerful and innovative way to deliver the consumer message that Kronenbourg 1664 is a beer that is brewed to be enjoyed slowly – in any circumstances.”
The TV campaign will be supplemented by a series of product -focused national newspaper advertisements which will reinforce Kronenbourg 1664’s positioning as a premium French beer with a rich flavour and provenance that is fully appreciated when savoured slowly.
As a grand finale to the Jägermeister Fall Music Tour, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King joined MEGADETH on stage last night (October 21) at the Gibson Amphitheater in Hollywood, California to perform Megadeth’s classic ‘Rattlehead’. This is the first time in 26 years that Kerry King has shared the stage with Megadeth since he played with the band during Megadeth’s very first shows in 1984.
Check out fan-filmed footage below:
Kerry King played Megadeth’s first three gigs: February 15th, 18th, and 19th, of 1984 in San Fransisco, CA.
Guitarist/vocalist Ashmedi of Mesopotamian blackened thrash pioneers MELECHESH, has issued the first of several track by track explanations of songs from their forthcoming album. The Epigenesis was released on October 1st in Europe and will be made available on October 26th in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.
3. Sacred Geometry
“The meaning of Sacred Geometry refers to the idea that the cosmos although chaotic has a sense of order and defining geometry i.e. crystalline elements. Even the symbol of chaos is Geometric! Shapes and patterns make existence of the real and surreal possible! Many divine structures or spiritual temples have been built on this principle! Even Pythagoras elaborated on this matter. He discovered thatstopping half way through the length of an oscillating string produced an octave relative to the string’s fundamental, basically a higher version of the same note, while a ratio of 2:3 produces a perfect fifth and 3:4 produces a perfect fourth. Pythagoreans believed that these harmonic ratios gave music powers of healing which could ‘harmonize’ an out-of-balance body.
Symbolically, lyrically and musically this song is sacred Geometry. The main riff, which sounds very catchy and serpentine eastern, is based on a physical geometrical pattern but also has octaves and fifths! The lyrics deal with the Annunaki and their message to the sons of Sumer (Humans). I did a line of clean vocals there which seemed expressive and suitable. Plus we formed a choir with the band members a couple of friends. 3 ladies then came to do the female parts abstractly in the background. This song is a perfect circle!”
4. The Magickan and the Drones
“This song has more of a black thrash apporach yet has epic parts such as the intro and outro as well as the middle. The intro, which is a semi acoustic vintage sounding electric guitar, was improvised while I was in a project strudio in Rotterdam. It has a desolate feel that sets the mood. A calm before the storm type of scenario! The explosive riffs set a ritualistic mood and proveribal prologue. Then the song goes on full throtle. The lyrics have a dual meanings. The mythological mystical ones but also another one. This song to me represents the perfection of black/thrash metal and gracefully adds rock elements! The outro layers several elements, guitars that sound like ancient horns (thanks to some vintage amps) while the ritualistc riff goes on. It sounds very apocalyptic . THIS IS YOUR ANECDOTE!”
5. Mystics of the Pillar
“This is one of the songs that we tend to call ritualistic. Deeply rooted in mid eastern sounds. This song is hypnotic and serpent like! It was written on 12 string electric guitar and was also recorded with this guitar. However we also had string in the background to maintain a cohesive sound through out the album. There are two versions of this song, both have entirely different endings. We choose one for the album. We don’t know where and if the other will resurface. I am confident it will though. The title refers to mystics who dedicate their lives to meditation and to reach their spiritual goals they meditate on pillars for isolation and symbolic spiritual elevation. The lyrics are not straight forward and do have subliminal meanings. Very last note while the guitar tone is fading you hear a noise from the guitars. I felt like shouting/coughing on the guitar pickup. It was spontaeous but we wanted to keep it as it had a subtle charm. Middle part has a the Yaleli Tanbour by Cahit Berkay (of the 60’s Anatolian rock band MOGOLLAR; still active). Plus Harun Kolcak is a well known singer in Turkey and did the eastern vocal ornamentaions while I was basically speaking in tongues on that part.“
MELECHESH have made the track “Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin” available for streaming on their Myspace page www.myspace.com/Melechesh. The track comes from the bands new album The Epigenesis.
The Epigenesis was recorded in the newly built first class Babajim Studios in Istanbul, Turkey. The album was mixed by Reuben de Lautour and mastered by Pieter Snapper. In an unprecedented move in metal, the band chose to record the album entirely in Istanbul in an attempt to capture the inspiring surroundings. Babajim Studios is run by some of the most elite sound engineers in Turkey.
The artwork (attached) to their long awaited 5th album was handled by renowned UK based occult artist John Coulthart, whom the band has previously collaborated with before.

EVILE, the UK’s premiere thrash act have been thrilling crowds in North America for the last several weeks and they’ve been documenting their experiences in a tour blog exclusively on the official website of Hails and Horns magazine. The band has battled sickness, encountered random highway closures and and experienced unfortunate van troubles that temporarily hindered some things but only strengthened the band’s resolve to give their fans a truly world class metal show.
In the latest blog entry, guitarist, Ol Drake speaks about having to improvise a setlist for an impromptu headline show, the band’s adventures at the Canadian border and how to properly wrestle someone while drunk in New York City. INFECTED NATIONS, the ripping 2009 album from British thrashers EVILE, has been re-released as a special redux version and is available now in North America.
The follow-up to EVILE’s debut album, ENTER THE GRAVE, INFECTED NATIONS sees the band finding a new level of maturity and song-writing craftsmanship, creating a heavier thrash sound with even more infectious riffs to headbang to.
On top of the nine album tracks, the INFECTED NATIONS Redux also features a bonus disc with EVILE’s popular cover of PANTERA’s “Cemetery Gates”, as well as eight songs recorded at a live rehearsal in the studio and six songs recorded live at Hammerfest in 2009.
“Symphony Of War” is the third album of the Belgian Symphonic Power Metal band around mastermind Dushan Petrossi, after their highly acclaimed releases “The Arrival” (1999) and “Metallic Tragedy” (2004).
Petrossi, who names Malmsteen, the early Symphony X and classical composers as Bach and Händel as his influences, geniously combines several different musical styles and turns them into catchy songs, that feature filigree riffing, big choirs and mighty melodies as well as first-class Metal-attacks and well-balanced heavyness.
“Symphony Of War” is a clear progression of their 2004 release “Metallic Tragedy”, for which MAGIC KINGDOM have received only positive reviews. Fans from Yngwie Malmsteen to Rhapsody Of Fire will love this album.
The great vocal work by Olaf Hayer (Luca Turilli, Dionysus, Symphonity) complements “Symphony Of War” to a high class piece of music.
Mix and Mastering was done by Uwe Lulis (Rebellion, Ex-Grave Digger); for the cover artwork Leo Hao was hired, known for his creating the album covers for bands like Iced Earth and Blind Guardian.
“Symphony Of War” is also available as a limited 2-CD package with slipcase, poster, sticker, two bonus tracks, videoclips and wallpapers.
Giddy Up! Records is pleased to announce the addition of Tennessee doomers PLACE OF SKULLS to their expanding artist roster, which currently includes Moth Eater, Black Water Rising and Demonica. The New York City-based indie imprint will release PLACE OF SKULLS’ fourth full-length, As A Dog Returns, in North American on November 9, 2010.
Said Giddy Up! label head Steve Seabury: “To me, Victor Griffin is a legend in the doom scene. I am like a little kid at the doom store. It’s an absolute honor and privilege to have PLACE OF SKULLS join the Giddy Up! Records family. This record is just amazing. I love it.”
The follow-up to 2006’s The Black Is Never Far was recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville by Travis Wyrick and founding guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin (Pentagram, Death Row etc.) with drums recorded and engineered by Mike Dearing. Audio streams of “The Maker” and the title track are currently available on the band official MySpace page. Check them out HERE.
In related news, the band will kick off a two-week European tour with Eternal Elysium this Saturday. As a special bonus, PLACE OF SKULLS fans in or around Berlin are eligible for a free pass to Hammer Of Doom 4 in Wurzburg and a FREE copy of As A Dog Returns. Formed in early 2000 by Griffin, bassist Lee Abney and drummer Tim Tomaselli, PLACE OF SKULLS — a biblical reference to Golgotha — carries the torch of prior Griffin and Abney bands such as Death Row and Pentagram in the ever-burgeoning underground scene of doom metal. But as their sound continues to expand beyond those boundaries, they incorporate intricate dynamics in their songs that few bands of the same genre explore and lyrically reflect upon their spiritual beliefs, faith, God, politics, and the search for peace. Having stepped outside the proverbial box of “doom metal,” PLACE OF SKULLS opens the door of accessibility to a whole other cross section of heavy rock enthusiast. But by no means should this be taken lightly. Their sound is as crushing and molten live as ever and no less threatening than any of their musical counterparts in volume. http://www.placeofskulls.comhttp://www.myspace.com/placeofskullsdoomhttp://www.giddyuprecords.com/
