THE POODLES release new album – “Performocracy”

February 13th, 2011

THE POODLES - “Performocracy”

THE POODLES - “Performocracy”

Watch out! Out of Sweden, THE POODLES release their new album “Performocracy”

Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release of the highly anticipated fourth album from THE POODLES entitled “Performocracy” on April 15th in Europe and May 5th in North America.

The title of the album is a combination of the words “Performance” and “Democracy”, meaning “The power of Performance” or “Rule by Performance”. The album was again produced by Mats Valentin, but this time Tobias Lindell (Europe, Mustasch) mixed the 12 outstanding tracks that make up the cd. “I think we have followed through on what we started with the last album, “Clash of the Elements”, explains singer Jakob Samuel. “Besides continuing to work with producer extraordinaire, Mats Valentin, we took a step further with some of the material that was hinted at on “Clash of the Elements”. On “Performocracy” there is a more epic and darker character to some of the songs that we wanted to explore in more detail. Having said this, we have definitely stayed with a lot of the signature melodic elements that are trademark of the band”.

The first single off “Performocracy” is “Cuts like a knife”, which promises to entice both Poodles fans and anyone with a passion for rock n’ roll. The song will impact at radio on February 21st and the single will be released digitally only on March 3rd. A video produced by Steve Ravic, who also shot and produced the band’s landmark DVD release “In the Flesh”, will accompany the release of the first single. After the gold and platinum records that the band was able to achieve in their home country Sweden, now it is time for them to take on the world !

“One important aspect of having a few releases in the bag is that you know more what you want as a band” adds bassist Pontus Egberg. “Someone once said that “if you want to dream big, you have to dream in great detail”. To us this means that we take all the knowledge and experience that we have acquired from our previous efforts and use that to plan ahead and make our dreams bigger.”

As the album title suggests, performing songs live is the reason for what The Poodles are as a band. A full European tour is planned for the early fall of 2011 and in conjunction to this The Poodles will also head to South America and Japan to support the release of “Performocracy”. For the summer of 2011 The Poodles will take part to festivals and shows with a focus on Sweden.

Stay updated following The Poodles on or on poodles.

“Performocracy” will include the following tracks: I Want It All; Until Our Kingdom Falls; Father To A Son; I Believe In You; Cuts Like A Knife; As Time Is Passing; Love Is All; Your Time Is Now; Action!; Bring Back The Night; Vampire’s Call; Into The Quiet Night; Don’t Tell Me (Bonus Track).

Heavy Metal has never been more exciting and the new album promises to be a milestone in rock n’ roll history!

Jakob Samuel – vocals
Pontus Egberg – bass
Christian Lundqvist – drums
Henrik Bergqvist – guitars
Produced by Mats Valentin

The original “Metal Queen”! This monicker was also the name of Lee Aaron’s 1984 breakthrough album, the title track of which in turn being her most classic song. The singer, whose birthname is Karen Greening, released seven hardrock-albums between 1982-94. The earliest ones – like “Metal Queen” – have a certified heavy metal-edge, whereas the later ones – like the bestseller “Bodyrock” (1989) – are slightly more melodic. In later years, Lee Aaron’s singing career has revolved around jazz and blues, with hard rock being seemingly a thing of the past. Until now, that is. In 2011, the original Metal Queen makes her comeback at SRF – her first ever concert on Swedish soil. A bona fide sensation for all fans of genuine 80s metal!

Die Hard, Collapse @ Underworld, Camden

6th February 2011

Review: Jo Blackened

Photos: Altercarnated Photography

The Underworld is probably one of my least favourite places to photography bands.

With no photography pit, cramped spaces & pillars that are situated in the middle of the room which block out your view, I knew tonight wasn’t going to be easy.

But seeing as it was Sodom , Die Hard and Collapse playing tonight I knew this wasn’t a gig I was prepared to miss!

Christian rockers Stryper are offering fans a head-banging view of who their influences were early on, with the arrival of an almost entire album’s worth of cover songs titled ‘The Covering’.   Set for release on February 15th via Big3 Records, the album includes twelve rocking covers, as well as the all-new original tune, “God”.   And most significantly, the album marks the return of original bassist Tim Gaines back into the Stryper fold, setting up the first Stryper release in years to feature the definitive line-up of Michael Sweet (vocals/guitar), Oz Fox (guitar), Tim Gaines (bass), and Robert Sweet (drums).

According to Michael Sweet, the impetus for putting out a mostly covers set was a simple one. “Every Stryper album is pretty serious and pretty bold in the lyrical faith sense of the word.  We just wanted to roll our sleeves up, cut loose, and have some fun.”  And when it came time to pick out a listing of tunes to cover, all the band had to do was look back upon their club days.  “Growing up, before Stryper was even Stryper, we were a cover band.  We played Gazzarri’s on the Strip for years – we would do originals but also do covers, as well.  We always did Priest covers and Maiden covers, all those bands we grew up on and who influenced us.”

What fans get is a CD that runs the gamut from 1970’s era classic rock (Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”, Deep Purple’s “Highway Star”, Kiss’ “Shout It Out Loud” etc.) to 1980’s era heavy metal (Black Sabbath’s “Heaven and Hell”, the Scorpions’ “Blackout”, “Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper” etc.).  “A few things we set out to do on this album was to stay true to the original – we didn’t want to disrespect the original versions,” explains Michael. “I’m never going to sound like Bruce Dickinson or Ronnie James Dio, nor would I ever try to.  And having me sing the song puts our own spin on it.  We just all did our own thing and with our own touches and feel – Robert, Tim, Oz, and myself – it has that Stryper feel to it as well.”

Big3 Records Chairman Bill Edwards adds, “We are excited to allow Stryper the creative freedom to do what they do best, and take this album to the next level.  We are very excited about working with the band and helping make ‘The Covering’ a widespread success.”

To support ‘The Covering’, Stryper is planning a tour that begins in March, and when it comes to the set list, it will contain quite a few surprises for longtime fans. “We’re probably going to pull out four Stryper songs that haven’t been played in the set in years.  And then we’re probably going to do four covers.  We’ve also got a whole slew of other Stryper songs that we’ve been playing for a long time.  So we probably have 20 songs in the set.”  Stryper fans rejoice, more anthemic metal will soon be on the way!

1. Set Me Free (Sweet)  2. Blackout (Scorpions)  3. Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath)  4. Lights Out (UFO)  5. Carry On Wayward Son (Kansas)  6. Highway Star (Deep Purple)  7. Shout It Out Loud (Kiss)  8. Over The Mountain (Ozzy Osbourne)  9. The Trooper (Iron Maiden)  10. Breaking The Law (Judas Priest)  11. On Fire (Van Halen)  12. Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin)  13. God (Stryper)

NIGHTWISH Reveal Concept For Upcoming Imaginarium Release; Band Preparing Movie To Accompany Album, First Artwork Teaser Revealed

February 10th, 2011
by EvilG
Nightwish - Imaginarium

Nightwish - Imaginarium

In the midst of recording a new album, Finnish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH have been preparing a movie.

Imaginarium is a music fantasy film based on the forthcoming Nightwish album of the same title and its 13 songs.

The protagonist of the film is a songwriter with an otherworldly imagination. He is an old man who still thinks he`s a young boy. While asleep he travels into his distant past where his dreams of old come back to him mixed to the young boy`s world of fantasy and music.

In his dreams the old man fights to find the memories most important to him.

This never-done-before project originates to more than two years in the past when Nightwish mainman Tuomas Holopainen first introduced his ambitious idea of the Imaginarium concept to the fellow band members and to Mr. Stobe Harju, the director behind ‘The Islander’ music video. He will be the director of this full-length feature. The film will be produced by Solar Films Inc. together with Nightwish.

The shootings for Imaginarium will begin this spring, it will have its premiere in 2012 and the album it`s based on will be released in an undefined point in time.

Nightwish will hold a press conference related to this project at the end of February.

Nightwish leader Tuomas Holopainen issued the following update earlier this month:

“In the excitement of Yuletide magic I wrote there would be secrets revealed at the end of January. There are big things happening within and around the Nightwish camp but the Big Boys and Bosses just sent me an ultimatum to keep my mouth shut for a couple more months, or I would wake up with a horse’s head in my bed.

I truly am very sorry about needing to keep future plans and sights still in secrecy. The purpose is not to annoy anybody or cause a carefully planned hype over the matter. Due to the changes in the schedule things will be revealed later during the spring.

The recordings continue, I’m off to E-Major Studios next weekend to put together all the files for the orchestral and choir sessions in London. I’m in daily contact with Mr. Pip Williams, going over the arrangements and new ideas for the songs. The demos he has sent me sound simply otherworldly! Beautiful, twisted, tribal and cinematic stuff. And with a theme album coming up, the mood changes seem to be more present than ever before.

Yup, it still is the Burton-Gaiman-Dali – amusement park we are about to enter.

More coming up once the mobsters grant me permission.”

Germany’s Metal Hammer Magazine recently caught up with Holopainen, who took them on a video tour of the “summer camp” where he worked on the band’s forthcoming album.

Part 1

Part 2

Bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala checked in with the following update at the beginning of January:

“At the moment I have most of the bass tracks for the new album recorded. I started already a few weeks back, but I’ve been taking my time with the recordings. It’s the luxury of having your own equipment and a former job as studio engineer. For now I’ve been taking it pretty easy for the last two weeks. The holiday season and all that goes with it, you know…

Right now I’m collecting my inner plutonium for the critical mass again. I always do that before recording something. After all we’re not a pop band, and these songs need some really serious explosives. Too bad you can’t hear them yet.

I just had to twist the knife here. I’m a sadist also. The songs are really good by the way.

Of course we all would like to see this project finished, released and out for all the world to hear. The success we’ve been blessed or cursed with is demanding in its own ways. Everything has to be planned in long term. All the parts of releasing albums, videos and tours have to match carefully when you get to this stage of things.

And so we all get fed up with the waiting. Try to be patient and we’ll do our best to reward you later on.

And so we come to this: I hope you all had a nice holiday time. Also all of those people who don’t really care about that stuff. It’s a new year 2011. Let’s make it a good one!”

Stay tuned for further updates.

Check out some photos from the studio at this location.

What will they come up with next!? – A “metal” tribute to Frank Sinatra?

February 10th, 2011
by EvilG

New York, NY (February 10, 2011)–What would timeless songs like “New York, New York,” “Lady Is A Tramp,” and “Fly Me To The Moon,” sound like cranked out of Marshall stacks, crooned by members of Cheap Trick, Twisted Sister, Deep Purple, Anthrax, Mr. Big, or Queensrÿche? This can now be experienced on SIN-Atra, a brand new album to be released by Eagle Rock Entertainment on March 29, 2011. [MSRP $13.98]

This all-star project, created from the team that brought you the merry, molten melodies of We Wish You A Metal Xmas, reinvents the classic songs that the great Frank Sinatra performed and, in turn, made famous. These twelve cherished tunes, written by some of the greatest songwriters of all time, are given a radical hard rock/heavy metal treatment, resulting in electrically charged versions of the classics.

Some of the most potent and recognizable voices of rock rework such legendary gems as “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Strangers In The Night,” and “That’s Life,” including Dee Snider, Robin Zander, Glenn Hughes, Joey Belladonna, Geoff Tate, , Tim “Ripper” Owens, Eric Martin, and dUg Pinnick. Producers Bob Kulick, of KISS and Meat Loaf fame, and Brett Chassen, recreated these songs on guitar and drums, respectively, rounded out by Billy Sheehan (bass) and Doug Katsaros (keyboards, orchestration). Also making an appearance as lead guitarist on “That’s Life” is renowned rock guitarist Richie Kotzen.

These familiar favorites are beloved the world over, but they’ve never been heard like this before! “A fantastic CD,” says executive producer Wendy Dio, “keeping the era alive with today’s musicians.”

TEXAS – The Famine is less than a week away from the release of its sophomore Solid State Records full-length, The Architects of Guilt, and the North Texas technical death metal group is proud to unveil the music video for the record’s first single “Ad Mortem”, which is now live on at:

The video was shot in December at a steel fabrication shop in Dallas with director, Michael Dalton, in an attempt to capture the frustration of ferocity that permeates through the 11 tracks on The Architects of Guilt.

“As I talked to Nick (vocals) about this video, he let me know he wanted to not just set the feel for the track, but for the whole album,” said Dalton.  “From shooting to editing, chaos was the ultimate goal.”

To achieve the desired feeling of chaos, the video combines quick edits of performance footage, filmed in the dark, cold Dallas warehouse, with images and video from traumatic events throughout history.

“(Vocalist, Nick Nowell) wanted it to be dark, chaotic and to feel oppressive, which is where all of the close ups and stock footage came in.  As I’m sure my editor will tell you, watching hours of stock footage helps you to realize that mankind has accomplished both incredible and terrible things, and we’ve been to some really dark places.  I think the goal of this video was to allow the viewer to catch even the slightest glimpse of that.  And to maybe get stoked on some metal.”

The Architects of Guilt will hit stores on February 15th.  It can be pre-ordered through the Solid State Records webstore at:, while a special CD/t-shirt combo pre-order is also available at:

“Ad Mortem” is also available for download on iTunes at:, or on at:             Four songs from the forthcoming album are currently streaming on The Famine’s official MySpace at:, offering fans a sneak peek at what’s in store when the album drops next week.
