I first met Fierce Atmospheres lead guitarist Eric Gosselin when he joined a local Austin, Texas based black metal band I used to play drums for called Of the Fallen. Eric was from Maine and had performed in a technical death metal band back home called Living Impaired. I remembered Eric as being an exceptionally technical guitarist and very much into progressive song structures. I was not overly surprised when I head that he went on to perform with Nasty Savage at some of the bigger Euro summer metal festivals. Eric went on to form Fierce Atmospheres and relocated his new band to several cities and states before finally calling Illinois home. Eric’s old band Living Impaired eventually went on to reform and now the gifted guitarist finds himself with double duty…

Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal band EPICA, has released a lyric video for the track “Unchain Utopia”, below. The song comes from their new album The Quantum Enigma, which was released earlier this month via Nuclear Blast records.
“The ‘Unchain Utopia’ lyric video is one of the coolest lyric videos I have ever seen,” commented guitarist Mark Jansen. “The footage worked out very well for this approach. Every year, Paganfest brings out a fascinating crowd – a subdivision of the LA metal scene that you otherwise never get to see! The SoCal vikings and heathens come out to party in their chainmail and warpaint and tattered fur, and many fans sport plastic-horned helmets if nothing else. The festival also draws an admirably diverse group of fans; all age-ranges, races, and genders appreciate the uniquely good time that is offered at Paganfest. I kid you not, there was a white-haired old lady sitting in the VIP section, bopping her head along to all the bands’ sets.
“Kill the King”, the debut release by WAMI has been officially released last week both in Europe and in North America (via MVD). It is also available on iTunes

The names associated with the project are true legends on the hard rock scene: on the vocals – Doogie White (Rainbow, Michael Schenker, Yngwie Malmsteen), on the drums – Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, DIO), on the bass – Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), who join forces with the 16-year-old Polish guitarist Iggy Gwadera, who made his debut 2 years ago as the guitarist of Anti Tank Nun.
The idea to record an album together was born after Thin Lizzy’s concert in Poland. The bassist Marco Mendoza, delighted with the young guitarist Iggy, who supported Thin Lizzy with his band Anti Tank Nun, suggested that they record some music together. This first idea, which was maturing for the next dozen-odd months, eventually evolved into the project involving legendary musicians, who are currently recording a brand new album together with Iggy. The drummer Vinny Appice, renowned for playing in some of the best heavy metal bands of worldwide fame, as also the bassist Marco Mendoza have already finished recording bass and drum tracks in Los Angeles. In late November 2013, Doogie White confronted his vocal talent with Iggy’s guitar technique during their recording sessions in Poland. Hard rock fans can well expect the results of these sessions to be truly outstanding!
“Karg” is the third album of KING OF ASGARD, following “Fi’mbulvintr“, which was released in 2010 and “…to North” from 2012.
“Karg” has again been recorded with Andy LaRocque at the infamous Sonic Train Studios. Comments Jonas Albrektsson and Karl Beckman: “After well over a year of intensive writing, we finally reached the point where everything is put into finish. When countless hours of hard work and careful consideration has been completed. This completion, being our third album which at an early stage was titled to “Karg”, in English, “Barren”. A word which later on came to form the atmosphere of the whole album and a sense that meanders through more or less all the material. It’s darker, it is harsher and more stripped down than our previous releases. More mature, precise and well thought out. A challenge both for us as well as for the observer. Lyrically, we have come closer to our own immediate surrounding and ancestral heritage, based on old legends and tales from our home region, a tribute to our fair and historical countryside. Yet again everything was recorded and mixed in Sonic Train Studios with Andy LaRocque at the helm assisted by Olof Berggren. House of Lords is a Californian hard rock band formed in 1987. The band released its self-titled album in 1988 through Gene Simmons record label Simmons Records. The record sold respectably and included hit singles “I Wanna Be Loved” and “Love Don’t Lie”. SAHARA followed one year later and it included another successful single “Can’t Find My Way Home”. At this stage, the band and went through several line-up changes and eventually they split soon after the release of 1992 album DEMON’S DOWN. The original band returned in 2004 with album POWER AND THE MYTH but it wasn’t long after until the band disbanded again. In 2006 vocalist James Christian assembled a brand new version of House of Lords where he was the only remaining member of the original line-up. The renewed band released WORLD UPSIDE DOWN followed by COME TO MY KINGDOM (2008), CARTESIAN DREAMS (2009), BIG MONEY (2011) and PRECIOUS METAL which came out just a few months ago. The album release was followed by an extensive European tour which this time reached also Finland, for the first time ever. I sat down with James before the bands show in On The Rock in Helsinki and we discussed about the tour, PRECIOUS METAL, solo career and other things in life. Read on!

Sweating Bullets: The Deth And Rebirth Of Megadeth
Guys, back cover text below, but just a few opening words. This was going to be two separate books, but at the last minute, I just rolled a fattie.
Basically, it’s the story in detail of ever accursed Megadeth opus, featuring a ton of fresh interview footage, my usual track-by-track analysis, talk of all the tours, the hirings, the firings, the chemicals, but mostly the metal.
It’s 340 pages and more text than usual (but still lot of pictures), in my usual style, namely live shots mixed with all manner of memorabilia.
It’s a tiny bit more expensive because of increased layout and printing and costs, more postage at this weight, plus the months and months of writing that almost killed me. I actually started this thing almost two years ago and it’s got stuff from 32 of my own interviews plus the usual smattering of archival. It’s an epic, and I’m sure even the most dedicated Mega-fan will learn a bunch of stuff. Seriously, it’s the material of two standard books for sorta $4 more than one. And as the back sez:

Megadeth’s run of thrash classics from the mid ‘80s and up through the ‘90s continue to be celebrated in the metal community long after Dave Mustaine’s band mates have been discarded to the sands of time—save one, Dave “Jr.” Ellefson.
Along the way, there’s Mustaine’s pathology with his ex-friends in Metallica but also a helluva lot of killer metal, as the band works its way up through Peace Sells and So Far, through to the pair of superlative American metal classics, namely Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extinction.
Later came Cryptic Writings and Risk, which threatened to kill the band dead. And yet… the reconstitution of Megadeth after their demoralizing decline and then deflating dispersal at the destructive hand of its leader Dave Mustaine is a story not told ‘til now. But it is a tale worth telling for many reasons, perhaps starting with: a) its instructiveness on how to rebuild and maintain a career in metal and b) the revelations of so much good music to be discovered by metal fans the world over. Quite simply, the recent half of the Megadeth story, spanning the records The World Needs A Hero through Super Collider, includes some of the best and heaviest Megadeth music ever committed to shiny silver, with this author’s personal favourites arriving all over the Endgame album of 2009 and the Thirteen album of 2013.
Come celebrate Mustaine’s vision, track-by-track, as Martin applies his tried and tested methodology to a head-crunching canon of work that is truly as strong at the recent end of the spectrum as it is with the classics you all know and love.

Those who pass by The Garage this evening may assume a raucous event is about to ensue due to the aesthetics of those queuing to get it, but little do they know that what is about to take place is more beautiful that brutal. With both acts on the line up hailing from Romania and an intimate venue that’s relatively rammed, there’s a quiet excitement that fills the room and despite a lack of communication from both bands, the music does the talking.
With so many different instruments and styles making up Negură Bunget, it’s no surprise that their line up of members changes more regularly than Alice Cooper’s live costumes.
This however has no impact on the tightness of their live performance and with founding member Negru still firmly intact, the band flow through a set list showcasing each of their eras.
The array of traditional, Romanian instruments have an eerie effect live, similarly to on record and each section can be heard flawlessly despite such a small space. With a large amount of their live experience showcasing tracks from albums including ‘Om’ and ‘Vîrstele pămîntului’, it certainly leaves the question of when a new album will be out, seeing as their most recent is now four years old.
Grimegod start off procedures with a darker aura to the headliners, opting for a more gothic approach to the folk-infused black metal of other fellow countrymen. The four-piece may be down a drummer tonight but a drum machine is more than enough to keep the atmosphere seeping through the airwaves of the stuffy venue.
Grimegod’s approach is not the only aspect that connects them to tonight’s headliner, as it becomes apparent some of the members are shared by both acts and with a style that lays somewhere in the mind between early Alcest and late Burzum, it’s an ideal way to warm up the crowd.
With the crowd hopelessly hypnotized by the folk-infused blackness that is seeping from the stage like a toxic gas, it’s a still and sombre atmosphere but if a pit was about to kick off, it would merely destroy the aura created by a band that we can only hope continue to bring out their soundtracks of haunted enchantment.
