The black hearted beast of KAOTEON is back!

February 28th, 2011
by EvilG

KAOTEON released through the much respected OSMOSE PRODUCTIONS their debut album “VENI VIDI VOMUI”.

VVV was recorded and mixed at Mixdown Studios in the bullet-scarred city of Beirut, while mastering took place at Unisound studios (Sweden) by none other than Dan Swanö (BloodBath, Unicorn, Edge of Sanity, Diabolical Masquerade, Pan.Thy.Monium, Nightingale, Katatonia, etc…).

Osmose states:

“Forged in the Middle East where Terror and War never rest; the Lebanese Extreme Black/Death Metal band KAOTEON brings forth their first full length record with Osmose Productions to blast your ears and damage your minds. This kaotik opus is titled Veni Vidi Vomui, which translates to I came, I saw, I vomited.

KAOTEON’s full length is a statement of anger and disgust towards civil wars, terrorism, invasions, sectarianism, and deceit. These themes are dissected throughout their lyrics to project Lebanon’s daily life.

Several bands wrote about the ripping political and religious instability in the middle east but KAOTEON lives it to this day. From Shrieks, Low Grunts, and High Pitched vocals to fast and mind blowing blasts, this is a not to miss record for every Extreme Metal fan that enjoy uncompromising metal riffs.

This is going to be an unmatched statement of hatred. Zero tolerance.”

Words from the band: “Expect nothing but utter brutality, unseen anger and solemn disgust. The black hearted beast of KAOTEON is back and will burn everything that stands in its way, for the fires of hell rages within our hearts.”

“Imagine the blasting sound of supernovae compressed on a disk to serve as the soundtrack for the end of this wretched universe – This is what Veni Vidi Vomui sounds like!”

Tracklist:

1. Veni Vidi Vomui

2. Jihannam Wa Bi2sal Massir

3. Wartimes

4. Hateforged Retaliation

5. Provenance of Hatred

6. Anthem of the Dead

7. One by One (Dogs Heed the Call)

8. Decrepitude

9. Wrenched

10. Love Died (In Your Cunt)

11. To Purge One’s Self

BRIAN FORSYTHE of Rhino Bucket and Kix

February 26th, 2011
by Marko Syrjala

_AAZ6650.jpg

BRIAN FORSYTHE

INTERVIEW AND LIVE PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

Brian Forsythe is best known for his work with successful U.S rockers Kix. The band started its career in the late 70’s with the classic line up of Brian Forsythe, vocalist Steve Whiteman, guitarist Ronnie Younkins, drummer Jimmy Chalfant and bassist Donnie Purnell. They released such hard rock classics as MIDNITE DYNAMITE, BLOW MY FUSE and HOT WIRE. Brian left the band in 1992 but he briefly returned to play in Kix’s final studio release SHOW BUSINESS which was released in 1995.  After some touring Brian left again and the whole band slowly disbanded until they decided to reform Kix without Donnie in 2004. Since then Kix have been playing some shows every then and now including Rocklahoma Festival in 2008. But there’s been more than just Kix in his musical journey. In addition to many projects during the years he’s currently playing with rockin’ country band The Shakehandlers as well as with blues band The Purple Gang but the main band for Brian currently is definitely Rhino Bucket.

Rhino Bucket was originally formed in 1987 and band find some great success with its 1990 s/t debut album. The sophomore album GET USED TO IT was released in 1992 but it failed to reach its predecessors success. PAIN, which featured former AC/DC drummer Simon Wright, came out in 1994 but soon band called it’s quits before returning again in 2001 with original members Georg Dolivo bassist Reeve Jones, drummer Liam Jason (who had changed his sex and was now called Jackie Enx!) and Brian who was now invited to join the bands ranks to replace Greg Fields. A new lineup released its first album AND THEN IT GOT UGLY in 2006 and THE HARDEST TOWN followed in 2009. The latter once again featured Simon Wright on drums. The bands latest release WHO’S GOT MINE saw the light of day in January of 2011 and soon after, for the first time ever, the band arrived in Finland to play a series of club shows around the country. Brian kindly sat down with us before the bands show in Helsinki and here are the results of our little conversation. Topics include, of course, the latest from Rhino Bucket camp and well as some Kix stuff as well… Read on!

February 25th, 2011
by EvilG

Bazillion Points Books has revealed the final cover artwork for METALION: The Slayer Mag Diaries, a mammoth 744-page hardcover journey into black metal, death metal, and beyond by Norway’s metal godfather Jon Kristiansen. “The greatest heavy metal story ever told” will be available June 6, 2011, wherever books are sold, and is available for preorder now with two bonus limited patches at this location:

http://www.bazillionpoints.com/metalion-the-slayer-mag-diaries/

Part anthology, part memoir, and years in the making, METALION includes over 600 reproduction pages from every issue of Slayer Mag, spanning from the early 1980s through 2010. In addition, author Jon Kristiansen recounts his life’s story, from alienated outsider to central figure in Norwegian black metal to world-weary metal survivor. The book also features over 100 rare photographs, including two color sections and a portrait gallery of photographs taken by Kristiansen himself.

The astonishing combination of archival material includes scores of key historic interviews with the most revered  figures in extreme metal, including Mayhem, Emperor, Slayer, Kreator, Nihilist, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Cathedral, Entombed, Morbid, Napalm Death, Metallica, Opeth, Cradle of Filth, Sadistik Execution, Usurper, Nifelheim, Darkthrone, Sodom, Destruction, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Exodus, Dissection, Candlemass, Carcass, Sepultura, Gorgoroth, Death, Watain, Sadus, Satyricon, Enslaved, Pentagram, Jarboe, Immortal, Possessed, Overkill, Ulver, Dark Angel, and countless others.

“From the start, I made Slayer Mag as honestly and as well as I could,” says Kristiansen. “I never knew any other way. I hope that I have produced something that will stand the test of time.”

Advance praise for METALION:

“The legendary Slayer Mag gets its long overdue anthology”-Decibel

“Presiding over the birth of extreme metal from its Scandinavian heartland, the first issue of the legendary Slayer Mag was cranked out in 1985 and over the years shifted its coverage to provide an insider view of Swedish death metal and Norwegian black metal through their formative and most controversial years.”-Terrorizer

HARD “ROCKAHOLICS” WARRANT PREPARE NEW ALBUM AND SIGN TO FRONTIERS RECORDS

February 25th, 2011
by EvilG

Frontiers Records is proud to announce the signing of Warrant, one of the most popular and successful American hard rock bands to come out of the Los Angeles musical scene. The band is currently in the studio recording a brand new album under the direction of Keith Olsen (Scorpions, Whitesnake and Night Ranger). The album tentatively titled “ROCKAHOLIC” is scheduled for a May 2011 Worldwide release.

Jerry Dixon commented, “The last few years has been like holding in a big “secret“ from the world and now we get to share it. I really think we captured a perfect mix of the past and present on this record. Each song has its own vibe that’s going to take people on a kick-ass Warrant rollercoaster ride. To help achieve an old school sound mixed with the flair of today, we called on the legendary Keith Olsen to do the production. There’s enough 80’s influence on songs like “Tears In The City” & “Sex Ain’t Love” to keep the die-hard Warrant fans rocking while introducing them to new material”.

Warrant has sold over 8 million records worldwide. The band first came into the spotlight with their debut multiplatinum album “Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich”, which included the smash hit single “Heaven.” The band continued its success in the 90’s with the multiplatinum album “Cherry Pie” and the gold album “Dog Eat Dog”, both albums providing more hit singles in the Billboard Top 30.”ROCKAHOLIC” is sure to add more Billboard action for the band. With singer Robert Mason on lead vocals and original band members Erik Turner and Joey Allen on guitars, Jerry Dixon on bass and Steven Sweet on drums Warrant is ready to spread the ROCKAHOLIC addiction to the world.

2011 Rockaholic Schedule:
March: US Tour
April 29th – May 9th Australia Tour

Mark “M.E.” Edwards – Custom presets for new VST AMP RACK plugin; Statement regarding the recent passing of Gary Moore

February 25th, 2011
by EvilG

Steinberg USA has invited M.E. to design custom presets for the  new VST AMP RACK plugin  that comes with their new CUBASE 6 DAW software.  This is a great honor for M.E. These presets will be made available via download  from the Steinberg website in the coming months.

Meanwhile. M.E. will be demonstrating the VST AMP RACK during two New York City area CLUB CUBASE events during the first week of March. They will be held at GUITAR CENTER stores. Dates and information can be found at: http://www.steinberg.net/en/newsandevents/events/club_cubase.html

And a video has been uploaded to Youtube showing M.E. working on his presets with Steinberg’s Sal Pelaez at G&S Recording Studios in New Jersey. Check it out:

Screen shots from one of M.E.’s presets can be viewed at his Facebook page.

On a final, and sadder, note… below is M.E.s statement regarding the recent passing of Gary Moore.

On February 6, 2011, the world lost a legendary guitarist. Ireland’s Gary Moore. When I read the news, I was in shock.

I am a huge fan of Gary’s rock/metal work, and had the pleasure to see him live on the WILD FRONTIER tour. For about 25 years, I have been referring to Gary as “my favorite living guitarist”. He influenced me greatly. Just a week before his death, I had performed two of his tunes live. His instrumental BLINDER, and his version of Free’s WISHING WELL. And his influence from tunes like PARISIENNE WALKWAYS and THE MESSIAH WILL COME AGAIN can be found in a number of my songs, specifically LOVERS.

R.I.P. Gary Moore. We lost you far too soon….but your music will not only live on forever in your own recordings, but also in the inspiration you have given other players who will continue to speak your praises. – Mark “M.E.” Edwards Guitarist/Overlorde
