New Orleans heavy metal act haarp has just unveiled two new tracks with BrooklynVegan.com and InvisibleOranges.com today! BrooklynVegan is currently streaming the track ‘A New Reign’, and InvisibleOranges is currently streaming ‘The Blue Chamber Painted Red’. Both tracks are cut from haarp’s upcoming album, The Filth, to be released on November 23rd, 2010 on HOUSECORE RECORDS.
The band recently posted the never-before-seen album art on their MySpace page, illustrated by famed artist and tattoo master Paul Booth. The Filth is produced by HOUSECORE RECORDS label owner Philip Anselmo.
“When Phil called me all excited about this new brutality and its unique concepts he needed cover art for, I could immediately tell his conviction and excitement far surpassed his usual dark vigor,” recalls album artist Paul Booth. “Of course, I was in. Once Keith presented me with one of haarp‘s lyrical concepts in regards to Gluttony, it was actually amazing to me how similar their ideas were to my own. This collaborative vision was meant to be, as far as I was concerned. I look forward to creating more art to this slow and painfully twisted epic of doom.”
On August 27th, 2005, two of New Orleans’ extreme metal bands, manic grind freaks rat in a bucket and black metal blazers De Capa Preta, were slated to play a show at the now defunct Dixie Taverne in the heart of Mid-City. Due to ‘inclement weather’ and the threat of Hurricane Katrina making landfall, the bands decided that since many people were evacuating the city, the show could not go on.
Hurricane Katrina struck and devastated the Gulf Coast region and effected many aspects of people’s lives. The music scene in New Orleans was not spared from this change and many bands, including rat in a bucket and De Capa Preta, suffered members departing the band, and ultimately calling it quits.
Keith Sierra Jr., drummer from rat in a bucket, and Grant Tom, guitarist from De Capa Preta, got in contact with each other from their temporary locations and discussed the state of the music scene. After digging up old conversations and ideas they had discussed at various local shows, they decided to return to New Orleans and start a new band. This new band would approach music from a new direction from the speed and chaos of their respective previous bands, and focus more on mid-tempo and slower music. The immediate choice for vocalist was Shaun Emmons of rat in a bucket, who shared the varied and eclectic musical tastes of Keith and Grant. Several tryouts later, Ryan Pomes of Milktoast joined the group and finalized the lineup as bassist.
“To call haarp “slow” would be somewhat fair, but to say that they’re just “another slow band” would be sacrilege,” states label owner Philip Anselmo. “Their music is crushing, resolute, dramatic and conceptually insane. If critics are going to try and lump them into any one genre, than they’d better put the crown on haarp‘s collective heads once it’s picked. This ain’t Doom Metal by any stretch. haarp makes playing halftime sound like an original idea all over again. This music is essential.”

Grant Tom – Guitar
Ryan Pomes – Bass

Veteran U.S. death metal act INCANTATION has announced a handful of special shows where it will perform its classic debut album, Onward To Golgotha, in its entirety. The Onward To Golgothadates are presented by Decibel magazine, which inducted the album into the publication’s “Hall Of Fame” in issue #52 (February 2009).
Originally released in 1991, Onward To Golgotha redefined the bounds of brutality and blasphemy for death metal and has long been heralded as one of the heaviest and most uncompromising metal albums in the world. Decibel also named Onward… one of the 20 best death metal albums of all time as well as one of the most important records in the genre.
Relapse Records will release a limited “Hall of Fame” edition vinyl version of Onward To Golgotha to coincide with these dates. The deluxe edition will be strictly limited to one pressing of 1,000 copies on colored vinyl and include an embroidered INCANTATION Onward To Golgotha patch and sticker. DIABOLIC have issued the following statement, following their appearance at Goregrowler’s Ball IV:
“DIABOLIC original member, Bassist/Vocalist Paul Ouellette has been ousted from the band, due to his drunken and unprofessional behavior, and walking offstage mid-song during the band’s recent performance Fri, Nov 12 at Goregrowler’s Ball IV in San Antonio, TX. Many of our friends and fans know that this is not our first episode dealing with Paul’s drunken, often violent, destructive, and unprofessional behavior at shows. For DIABOLIC’s frontman to behave in this way is inexcusable and after several warnings, we have no choice; Paul has been removed permanently from the lineup, and is no longer a member of DIABOLIC.
DIABOLIC continued to play our next several songs and finished our set without vocals, and we would like to thank all of our friends and fans who stayed to show your support, during and after our set! Many of you have said how much you enjoyed our set even without vocals, and that you respect us for finishing our set, in spite of what happened. For that we say THANK YOU!! And thank you to Goregrowler’s Ball promoter, Aaron Mendiola (also vocalist of ENGAGED IN MUTILATING) for having us, and we look forward to the day when we can return to San Antonio, TX and bring you all DIABOLIC the way it was meant to be!!
Effective immediately, DIABOLIC are seeking a replacement Bassist/Vocalist. We are looking for pro gear, stage presence, and most importantly sick vocals and bass skills. We have a European Tour offer for 2011, so ability to tour is a must! Qualified applicants will live in or near the Tampa, FL area or willing to relocate. If you are interested and have what it takes, email firstname.lastname@example.org.”
Legendary death metal act DIABOLIC released its first full-length album since 2003’s Infinity Through Purification on June 8, 2010, through Deathgasm Records. Entitled Excisions of Exorcisms, the new album is a nuclear explosion of Satanic death metal performed at reckless speeds and inclusive of the band’s most dynamic songwriting to date. Along with a blistering production from world renowned engineer Juan “Punchy” Gonzalez (MORBID ANGEL, TERRORIZER, UNHOLY GHOST) and brilliantly iniquitous cover art from the one and only Joe Petagno (MOTORHEAD, KRISIUN, ANGEL CORPSE, MARDUK), Excisions of Exorcisms is death metal par excellence; brutal, uncompromising, and evil as Hell.
“Diabolic has put together some of their most solid Death Metal songs in what feels like ages with this release.” – Apochs.net
“Diabolic have been hard at work over the last few years, and it shows. Finally, in Excisions Of Exorcisms, Diabolic have a record that matches their live intensity. Arguably, it’s the best Diabolic has sounded since the City of the Dead demo.” -Grindhead Jim Deabenderfer, Cardiac Arrest, SickDrummer magazine
'MEAN DEVIATION: Four Decades of Progressive Heavy Metal'
Visionaries Praise Author Jeff Wagner’s Debut
Due for release on Dec. 1, former Metal Maniacs editor Jeff Wagner’s highly anticipated ‘MEAN DEVIATION: Four Decades of Progressive Heavy Metal’ (Bazillion Points Books) has already garnered staggering advance praise from some of the most respected figures in the progressive metal sphere.
Among the first responders:
Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE): “We now have a definitive book on the relationship between metal and progressive music.”
Jim Matheos (FATES WARNING): “Looks cool! I’m looking forward to digging in.”
Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER): “The book is awesome! Damn, talk about work!”
Paul Masvidal (CYNIC): “The book looks and feels fabulous. I can’t wait to dig into this thing. Thank you, Jeff Wagner, for this massive information highway for all things progressive metal”
Kurt Bachman (BELIEVER): “Wow! I can’t wait to read it.”
Glenn Harveston (ProgPower USA Festival): “The book is awesome. I read it in 2 days.”
Albert Mudrian (Decibel Magazine): “I’ve only read through chapter one, and I’m already hooked.”
Weighing in at 400 pages, the heavily-illustrated ‘Mean Deviation’ offers original artwork throughout by Michel “Away” Langevin of VOIVOD, and a foreword by Steven Wilson of PORCUPINE TREE. The package includes a 16-page color photo insert, a constellation of appendixes, and an exhaustive index mapping the story of heady metal with exacting precision.

IMMORTAL’s first new album in seven years, All Shall Fall, debuted at #7 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album chart (for new & developing artists) and at #162 on the Billboard Top 200 for selling 3,300 copies its first week of release in North America in 2009. All Shall Fall also debuted at #20 in Finland, #23 in Norway , and #33 in Germany.

According to Metal Obsession, a Sydney, Australia-based religious group on Facebook has seemingly successfully protested against the running of a black metal mini-festival, dubbed “Black Mass”, at Sydney venue Newtown RSL. The venue has reportedly already pulled out from the event, and the festival promoter, Séance Records, has postponed the event until another date/venue can be found.
The protesting Facebook group described the festival as a “satanic ‘Black Mass’ celebration [which] is simply disgraceful. The advertising which features the insignia of the Church of Satan and an inverted crucifix is encouraging people to come and partake in an ‘unholy spell to be cast upon the city of Sydney’ featuring the ‘ultimate of soul-possessing occult revelations…unbridled blasphemy… [and] a union of all things unholy.'”
Séance Records commented on the cancelation in a press release posted on Brisbane-based metal forum Brismetal, stating, “Less than two weeks out from the show The RSL board has pulled the plug on Black Mass festival. They have blatantly cancelled with no prior notice and with no option of negotiation or compromise. They have sadly bowed under pressure from Christians who have lobbied them to cancel the show.
“The Christians have launched the full scale of their campaign at the last minute, I believe in a calculated manner to sabotage us to the fullest extent possible. They have done so via a series of Facebook pages organized to have the event cancelled. From their website we can tell that these are the same people who lobby against gay and lesbian rights, womens reproductive rights and contraception. Their actions will cause large scale hurt not to a secret den of Satanists as they may imagine but to normal hard-working, tax-paying, law-abiding Australians. Young people who have taken time off work, rearranged their schedules and family life, then spent money that they probably can’t afford on flights and tickets to the event in the pursuit of a shared love for heavy metal and live independent Australian music.”
SEBASTIAN BACH has verbally lashed out at Kevin Connor of The Toronto Sun for inaccurately labeling his wife, Maria Bach, as a stripper in this article.
Baz tweets: “For the record: Maria Bach was never a stripper or a dancer at any time in her life. She was a waitress at this place (Filmores) that’s all. She did this picture when we were teenagers trying to pay the rent. The fact that they still use her picture 25 years later means 2 things: her beauty is timeless & this place hasn’t found a better looking girl in 25 years. You fuck with my wife, & you fuck with me. Why this place cant show a little class is beyond me, & way beyond them obviously.”
Earlier today, Bach was in a Toronto court room for trashing Filmores strip club back in 2004 after staff refused to give him the naked picture on display of his wife taken in 1988. When Bach couldn’t get at the picture, which was behind Plexiglas, he threw an ashtray through a $12,000 etched glass picture with the Filmores logo behind the bar. The charges against him were dropped and he agreed to pay a $250 fine.

The Grammy nominated, Cradle Of Filth, continues to shock, excite, disgust, and inspire in equal measures. A loyal stalwart to the satanic horror ethos, Cradle Of Filth’s forthcoming, Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, was recorded at Monkey Puzzle Studios, near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, England, and is the follow-up to 2008’s Godspeed On The Devil’s Thunder. Artwork comes courtesy of Natalie Shau.
Whether through their wildly elaborate & theatrical live shows (which incorporate giant lumbering puppets, fire-breathing dancers, freaks and stilt-walkers), provocative merchandise (including the now legendary ‘Jesus Is A C***’ t-shirt), breathtaking artwork, or the weighty subject matter of their albums (their last told the story of a French Lord who fought alongside Joan Of Arc before embarking on a horrific killing spree), Cradle Of Filth is a band whose uncompromising stance has been rewarded with legions of fans around the world, making them the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden.
Be sure to check out the Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa mini-site at: http://www.peaceville.com/cradleoffilth for exclusive Cradle Of Filth media, including song previews, video blogs, an iPhone app, and more.

Danger Danger vocalist Ted Poley announces the addition of guitarist/keyboardist Paul LaPlaca to his solo touring band. LaPlaca has previously worked with such acts as ZO2, Zandelle and Chris Caffrey of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Savatage. Poley’s current roster also includes drummer Dennis Leeflang (Lita Ford, Bumblefoot), guitarist Maz Mazza (40 Ft. Ringo, Detroit Cheeta) and bassist Doug Odell (All Pointz West, Ice Age). The new lineup is scheduled to make its live debut on December 3rd, 2010 at Klubben Fryshuset in Sweden.
Paul’s inclusion in Ted’s touring band continues a busy year for the multi-talented musician, which most recently saw him serving as associate producer of the new album from SplitScreen Entertainment, “Whole Lotta Love: An All-Star Salute to Fat Chicks.” For this unique project, LaPlaca produced 5 tracks in total, working with members of L.A. Guns, Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P. and Twisted Sister.
“It’s just been a crazy year so far and every day is completely different.” states the in-demand Paul LaPlaca. “Working on the ‘Whole Lotta Love’ album was an incredible experience, with so many different styles and such outstanding musicians. After that I was able to squeeze in some tech duties for one of my all-time favorite bands, Living Colour. In between I worked a Disney fashion show and manned a camera for insanely talented drummer Jojo Mayer. I was even flown from New York to Tampa to shoot a product demo for Rocktron. Now instead of taking a break, I’m preparing for the European festival date with Ted Poley, a reunion show with members of October Thorns and a live set of metalized Hanukkah favorites with NY’s own Gods of Fire. I guess I can sleep when I’m DEAD!”
Making LaPlaca’s induction into Poley’s band all the more appropriate is the fact that he’d previously produced a song called “Ted Poley” for the 2008 tribute album “Kiss My Ankh: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent.” A parody of the Kiss song “Unholy” by Vincent and Gene Simmons, the song was performed by rock & roll comic C.C. Banana and even featured current Poley bandmate Dennis Leeflang on drums. The track has proven to be a favorite with Ted’s fans and has been used to open his solo shows ever since.
Considering that Poley himself recently signed with ARM Entertainment (management firm of such notable talent as Bret Michaels, L.A. Guns and Dokken), Paul anticipates keeping busy for foreseeable future.
