HATCHET signs Publishing Agreement with SALEM ROSE MUSIC PUBLISHING

February 23rd, 2011
by EvilG

Salem Rose Music Publishing has announced its publishing cooperation with HATCHET. This Bay Area, California quartet have been steadily building a compelling story for themselves the last 5 years between several DIY national tours and a 2008 debut on Metal Blade Records.  Now with a revamped lineup and a new 3-song demo the band are seeking a new label to release the album.

“We had a great spark early on with Awaiting Evil, however the pure passion and hard work ethic that it truly takes to support it was not shared by all original members. We now have a stronger, mature, and musically tight 4-piece,” explains singer/guitarist Jules Ramos.  “We are as a group and I personally excited to be working with Salem Rose Music. With Marco’s expertise and obvious great rep not only as a manager of bands like Warbringer & Bonded By Blood, his publishing roster showcases some great bands and all showing momentum in positive directions. I am confident we are in good hands and can’t wait to see what we can accomplish. A new label for our sophomore album is step one.”

Salem Rose Music began in 2007 as a management company handling the affairs of WARBRINGER, as well as establishing a Music Publishing division handling the administration of works for emerging artists including DIABOLIC, HEXEN, BLESSED CURSE (ex-Devastator), EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT, AVENGER OF BLOOD, SEVENTH CALLING and more. Since the company, a creative venture from industry vet Marco Barbieri, which assists young bands in their ambitions, has begun managing additional artists, including ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, PATHOLOGY and BONDED BY BLOOD, as well as entertaining new avenues like promoting local shows/festivals, consulting and producing.

More info follows below!

DODSFERD – Spitting With Hatred The Insignificance of Life
Greek black ’n’ roll machine DODSFERD returns with his defiant sixth album. The scarred ‘n’ scabrous Spitting With Hatred The Insigificance of Life is quintessential DODSFERD: caustic and crammed with filthy hooks. An album of intoxicating dissonance, absolute desolation and bleak, suicidal black metal seething with a pissed-off madness that demands to be heard! From depressive dirges to hard-rocking black ‘n’ roll, from punk disgust to sweeps of mournful melody, from fear and loathing to triumph and glory – join DODSFERD and revel in The Insignificance Of Life!   More info: www.moribundcult.com

HAERESIARCHS OF DIS – In Obsecration of the Seven Darks

After blazing trails with his Denuntiatis Cinis debut for MORIBUND and reaping unanimously fanatic praise from the international press, one-man maelstrom of miasmic misery HAERESIARCHS OF DIS returns with his hotly anticipated In Obsecration of the Seven Darks. Taking the previous MORIBUND album to more epic and extreme ends, mainman Cernunnos summons forth a frightening and bold vision of black metal: the complexity more entangling, the experimental touches even further out there, the violence absolutely mesmerizing. HAERESIARCHS OF DIS now enters the uppermost echelon of black metal.

Barn Burner playing ONTARIO this weekend

by EvilG

BARN BURNER returns to the road after recording in Mountain City Studios for new album!
If you are in any of these cities, this show is a MUST see show, you may even hear a new song or two!

Feb. 24 Toronto, ON @ Bovine Sex Club
Feb. 25 Hamilton, ON @ Absinthe Club
Feb. 26 London, ON @ London Music Hall

Montreal, QC natives, Barn Burner, are now done laying tracks for their follow up to Bangers, their criticially acclaimed Metal Blade Records debut. The band has been touring and working on new tunes for upwards of two years now, and are hungry to lay down the new tracks.

Vocalist/guitarist Kevin Keegan has offered up the following update: “We have been itching to get back into the studio and record what we have been working on for 2 years now. The new tunes are fiercer but still catchy enough to show to your dad. Excited to work with Adrian Popovich at Mountain City again and drink all of his shitty coffee. Basically, this new record will just give us more excuses to drink beer and play shows.”

Have no doubts Barn Burner will do just that – drink beer and play shows! Keep an eye out for more tour dates later this year.

Here’s what critics (and comedian Brian Posehn) had to say about their previous album, Bangers:

“Anyone listening to Barn Burner? I hear elements of Fu Manchu, C.O.C., Maiden and Thin Lizzy. Great hard rock with big hooks.” comedian and actor, Brian Posehn

Tora Tora releases follow-up (to Wild America) material from 1994

February 23rd, 2011

Tora Tora - Revolution Day

Tora Tora - Revolution Day

FnA Records releases a not so new album from Tora Tora.  In fact, inferior copies have been floating around the internet for years to the dismay of the band.  Guitarist Keith Douglas comments: “The files found and shared on the net are a poor copy from cassette to cd that are actually too fast. This release will be the closest thing ever to the original recording. Revolution Day Is Here!”

Revolution Day is material that was being worked on by Tora Tora for the follow-up to Wild America when the band found themselves in the midst of a new genre called Grunge. Fans of the hard rock genre would be disappointed as they saw their favorite bands dropped from their labels.  What was a successful band like Tora Tora to do?

Anthony Corder recollecting the Revolution Day sessions: “The Revolution Day project was an interesting time for TORA TORA.  It was the ’93-’94 era, we were overlapping the last embers of our Wild America dates, rehearsing ideas for the new project, growing from our touring experiences, and experimenting with recording techniques.  We relocated our rehearsal space to a warehouse over by the Memphis airport, and tried to stay focused on pre-production.  We were pulling together ideas from handheld cassette recorders, scribbled napkins, & 8 track recordings we made on the bus or hotel rooms.  I think we were more comfortable with our creative spirits, more confident in our ideas and our approach to songwriting.  All of us contributed on the former projects, but everyone was struggling for the third project to keep the TORA identity, and go somewhere new at the same time.   We definitely had moments of anxiety and frustration but it was all well worth it once we locked down the tunes.  We were joined by The Memphis Horns as well as Susan Marshall and Stacy Plunk, adding back-up vocals on two tracks.  The Revolution sessions were some of our most memorable escapades, and had us back at home in Ardent, hanging with Molly’s LaCasita crew, and me personally closing down most Midtown establishments.”

So what can the fans expect on Revolution Day?  Well those fans of Tora Tora who fell in love with the bluesy feel of Walkin’ Shoes and Phantom Rider, can expect more of the same (just with an updated feel) on tracks like Mississippi Voodoo Child, Candle And The Stone, Shelter From The Rain, Me and You, and Rescue Me.  There are also your hard rockers on this album like “Living A World Away”,   “Out Of The Storm” and “Little Texas”. Revolution Day shows a huge growth over Wild America as the band became more comfortable in the studio.  On top of that, Anthony Corder’s voice is at a top-notch level.  The fans will not be disappointed.

FnA Records, LLC. formed in 2009 to bring Rockers and Metalheads some of the best unreleased and hard-to-find music from the 80’s and early 90’s.  We are also a label that allows you, the fans to bring us music that you remember from “Back In The Day”, and to have it professionally released.  FnA Records has been the home for the last 3 Tora Tora albums: “Bombs Away”, “Miss B. Havin”, and “Before & After”.  To pick up your copy, visit the website at:  www.fnarecords.net

PEGAZUS: “Haunting Me” Video Released

February 23rd, 2011
by EvilG

The Australian Metallers of PEGAZUS have just released the video for “Haunting Me”. The song has been taken from the band’s upcoming album “In Metal We Trust”, which will be released on April 15, 2011 through Black Leather Records. The worldwide distribution is in hands of the German company TWILIGHT VERTRIEB.

The “Haunting Me” video can be seen below.

The video was filmed on location in Melbourne, Australia and directed by Aaron McLoughlin & Judd Hyland. Founding member and guitarist Johnny Stoj about the video shoot : ” The ‘Haunting Me’ video shoot was personally my best experience ever with making a music video. It was so awesome working with film director Aaron McLoughlin and such a professional crew. Really looking forward to getting back over to Europe to crank out some Heavy Metal tunes on our ‘In Metal We Trust Tour’ and also hitting the Festivals.”

In addition, the band has revealed an album video teaser, which can be seen here :

The new album contains 11 brand new classic Heavy Metal songs with original singer Justin Fleming back on vocals ! As a tribute to the great guitarists of the 80’s, Pegazus has invited Ross The Boss ( Founding member Manowar, Ross The Boss, The Dictators a.o. ), Jeff Watson ( ex-Night Ranger / Mothers Army ) and David Shankle ( formerly of Manowar, DSG ) to contribute a solo for the song “Old Skool Metal Dayz”.

Vocalist Justin Fleming about his return to the band : ” When I got the call from the band, I was of course shocked about Rob’s departure, but felt honoured to be asked to come back into the band. Since then it’s been a blast. We have played a lot of great shows, including the Skid Row tour and then the recording of In Metal We Trust. I think the album will shock a lot of people with the strength and power of the songs. We put all our heart into this album, there are no filler songs and from start to finish In Metal We Trust kicks serious ass! The upcoming tour is going to be awesome, we really cant wait to hit the road to meet and bring the Pegazus live show to our fans all around the world. Its been far too long since the band has been over to Europe and I’m pumped to get on stage and put on a show the Pegazus Warriors will never forget.”

GAMMA RAY To Release Unplugged Album “Skeletons And Majesties”

February 20th, 2011
by EvilG
Gamma Ray - Live @ Shepherds Bush Empire, London. 8th January 2008

Gamma Ray - Live @ Shepherds Bush Empire, London. 8th January 2008

German power metallers GAMMA RAY have issued the following update:

“You might have heard through the grapevine that the Rays have something cooking again, …..and yes, we do have.

Since the Skeletons In The Closet album was so well received some time ago, we thought it might be time to do an encore. While going through all previous albums we found that there is still a ton of songs that we either never or barely played. So we decided to do a bit of touring with a total different set and revive some of these songs with our nowadays chemistry and vibe.

But that’s not all… while jamming around with acoustic guitars we discovered that it’s actually much fun and that we have a good amount of songs that are cool to listen to as unplugged versions. So these special shows will consist of live un- or rarely heard stuff in full metal gear (Skeletons) and a good choice of our most famous hits in a different way (we chose to call them Majesties) …and presto: here we go with Skeletons And Majesties!!!”

Sixx:A.M. releases “Lies of the Beautiful People”

February 20th, 2011
by EvilG

CLICK HERE to watch and listen to Sixx:AM’s, “Lies of the Beautiful People”.

Well, the book and album are finally done. They fit together like a nice little puzzle yet somehow feel like the pieces were cut out of flesh with a razorblade. What I find interesting is that as much as I want them to mirror each other, they both stand on their own. They influence each other as much as possible yet each is strong and independent, from the visual stimulation in the photography to the lyrical content in the songs. To say that this project has been overwhelming would be an understatement. But the one thing that keeps tugging at my curiosity is that if I find beauty in all these places that most deem “Freakish” and “Macabre” then why do I also, at times, seek out beauty in what society calls beautiful? Am I contradicting myself or am I able to actually look beneath the surface when others sometimes can’t? This is a good question. Make no mistake when I refer to “The lies of beautiful people” I mean what I say but I am also saying look beneath the skin. I do not and will not attack the exterior of anybody but my intention is to pull back the veil on your internal truth. We need not worry if we are black, white, amputated, burned, maimed, a fashion model, or even have the face of Hollywood’s latest leading man… We are who we are… Either poisonous and evil or honest and willing… Willing to make a difference… I haven’t led the life of a saint nor do I intend on it now. That’s not what this is about. There were some things that needed to be said… Unbeknownst to me, they would spread across both a book and an album. I imagine that Sixx:A.M. and the book both stand to take a few shots in the jaw, a few bricks in the face. I know, speaking for myself, James, and DJ, that we welcome the feedback. Maybe, just maybe, everybody will take a hard, cold, eye opening look under the hood, so to speak as we have…

Primal Fear Vocalist and solo artist Ralf Scheepers

February 19th, 2011
by EvilG

Ralf Scheepers

Interviewed by EvilG

Promotional pics by Frontiers Records

There are many great vocalists that come to mind in heavy metal. The legends like Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford, and Bruce Dickinson are often the top names mentioned in reverence. Well, a fourth name should be added to that list and that name is Ralf Scheepers. The ex-Gamma Ray singer, Primal fear vocalist, and now solo artist has one of the strongest and best voices in heavy metal.  Ralf’s new solo album sees him mainly sticking to what we’re known him for, but also throwing in a few twists that you would not hear from a Primal Fear record. We caught up with Ralf to discuss his solo album and to get an update on current activity withing the Primal Fear camp.

THE ARUSHA ACCORD re-sign to Basick Records worldwide

February 18th, 2011
by EvilG

BASICK RECORDS are extremely pleased to announce the re-signing of one the UK’s most forward thinking technical Metal bands, THE ARUSHA ACCORD!

The deal will see a worldwide re-release of the bands debut album ‘The Echo Verses‘ as a 2-disc digipack collectors edition on April 18th 2011, which will be bundled with the bands original debut ‘Nightmares Of The Ocean‘ EP, along with exclusive videos, photos and multimedia content, as well as much sought after guitar/bass and drum tabs to each of the bands songs.

The band are also currently working hard at writing for their follow up record, also due to be released with Basick in the not-so-distant future.

Paul Green, vocalist with the band comments:

“We’re absolutely stoked to be announcing our re-signing with Basick!
Its great to be back home where it all started for us, the collective of bands & label ethic here is truly rare and one we’re proud to be part of again!

We’re equally as ecstatic about this release, a celebration of coming home and also a milestone that will see us move on from TEV.
Everyones been working their absolute tits off getting the tabs, content, artwork & website ready for this and it feels great to now let you in on what we’ve been doing. It’s also great to be getting TEV & NOTO into stores across the world, something that really had been missing for us and of course, you guys! With all the tabs for TEV now there for you guys, let’s see how you get on trying to learn those bastards 😉
This release truly means the end to a chapter for the band… We’ve learnt a hell of a lot about our sound and what we want from music over these past 2 years…

As you know we’re working on a new record; the guys have been throwing stuff back and forth to each other and i can assure you, it’s incredible! We have always aimed to push the boundaries with our sound, and the new material is even more beautiful and as disgusting as anything we have written to date. I think its too early for us to give anything away but we are dipping back into our roots and also looking at new areas for inspiration… Lets hope we can finish this as well as we’ve started! ;)”

BASICK RECORDS is extremely excited to announce the signing of Australia’s finest, CIRCLES!

Mixing up cutting edge production techniques with some altogether killer guitar work, CIRCLES instantly stand out from the Metal-by-numbers crowd with their, quite frankly, sublime song-craft and incredible vocal delivery.

Set for release via BASICK in Spring 2011, the band’s debut 6-track EP ‘The Compass’, combines musical influences from technically minded bands such as Periphery and Textures, whilst simultaneously drawing lyrical and vocal comparisons to the early works of Incubus and Faith No More.

David Hunter, drummer with the band comments: “We are stoked to be working with Basick Records and to be receiving such a positive international response. Our debut EP ‘The Compass’ has been along time in the making and we are really excited to get it out there and to hear the reactions. Work on the first album has already begun and is coming along really well for such early stages. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us up until this point and we promise the best is yet to come!

Sylvan Realm complete new album

February 18th, 2011
by EvilG

Eclectic dark metal band Sylvan Realm are about to unleash their 1st full length album titled “The Lodge Of Transcendence” on March 1st 2011. Musically the new album  will bring a unique philosophical, metaphysical approach to the dark/black metal genre. The Lodge of Transcendence is a concept album comprised of 6 songs and a running time of 41 minutes that will be released by the bands own Reverie Recordings label. The Lodge Of Transcendence concept is based upon unlocking cosmic gateways found deep within nature and ultimately reaching enlightenment of the minds eye after traveling through everything, nothing, infinite light, infinite darkness, and completing the voyage beyond dualism to veer the microcosm into the macrocosm, and the macrocosm into the microcosm.

Sylvan Realm rose from the ashes of the band Reverie that was formed in 2003 and put out one full length album titled “Isolation” in 2007. Since then band founder Sylvan relocated from the rocky mountains of Montana to Maryland. In 2010 Sylvan changed the bands name to Sylvan Realm and recruited Evan Madden (Woods of Ypres, The Green Evening Requiem) to unleash his unique musical vision behind the drums and Jason “Deathdancer” Eckert (Aurora Borealis, Todesbonden) for his mastery of the bass. While Sylvan preformed Vocals and guitars for the album as well as lyrics and album art.The Lodge of Transcendence was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ron Vento (Aurora Borealis) at Nightsky studio during October 2009 to January 2011 in Waldorf Maryland. Not to mention the bands logo was crafted by none other than Christophe “lord of logo’s” Szpajdel known by his work for Emperor, Borknagar, Old Mans Child, and countless others.
What to expect… The material can be best described as a mix of atmospheric dark metal combined with elements of doom, black metal with a organic production, eclectic and diverse approach that renders a sound unlike anyone else. For more visit the bands official myspace site atwww.myspace.com/thetruereverie or on facebook as sylvan realm. Lastly the band has posted 3 of the 6 songs on their myspace site and posted two videos on you tube (links below).
