British melodic death metallers THE SOULLESS, who recently changed their name from IGNOMINIOUS INCARCERATION, will begin recording their new album on December 15th.
THE SOULLESS will be entering Outhouse Studios in Reading, England on December 15th with producer JOHN MITCHELL (ARCHITECTS, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND, ENTER SHIKARI) and will be recording through until January 2011.
The follow-up to the band’s 2009 debut album, OF WINTER BORN, is due to be released on Earache Records in April 2011.
THE SOULLESS frontman ANDY WARDLE comments:
“We couldn’t be more excited about going into the studio. We were supposed to be going in in September, but because of the accident it had to be put back. So we’ve been waiting a long time to get in there! We have used our time well, however, to really tweak all the tracks and we are very happy with the result. We are also looking forward to working with the guys at Outhouse as we think they can really deliver the sound we want for this album.
“Everything we do will be recorded and so expect in-depth video updates of the recording process, showing clips of new material. We will also be putting up a video before we enter, showing our writing process and talking more extensively about the new style of music. Keep checking the updates and be excited!”
THE SOULLESS recently released a brand new pre-production track to give fans a taste of the new material. Listen to the new track, “Earthbound”, now on the band’s MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/wearethesoulless
TMD has obtained an extremely rare studio version of the track “Toast of The Town” from the very first MÖTLEY CRÜE demo session produced in early 1981, which subsequently became the act’s debut single “Stick to Your Guns/Toast of the Town,” that was put out on their own label, Leathür Records. The young and fearless metal act had scored a pressing & distribution deal with Greenworld Distribution in Torrance, CA.
The track was left off CRÜE’s legendary debut album Too Fast For Love which was released in December of 1981 but then was included in the re-released version of TFFL in 2003 when Elektra Records ordered TFFL complete re-mixes to include “Stick to Your Guns” and “Toast of the Town”.
Originally released in 1991, cassette format, this killer HAMMER WITCH “Legacy of Pain” album has been remastered. Plenty of crunching, buzz saw riffs, with thunderous bass and marathon-run double-bass drums, highlighted by gut wrenching vocals from this old school Texas heavy metal act. A must-have for true thrash collectors!
For Immediate Release – October 27, 2010 – Today FANGORIA.com will premiere the brand new video from Intergalactic Shock Rockers GWAR. The video is for the song “Zombies, March!” which comes off of GWAR’s new album “Bloody Pit of Horror” which is slated for a November 9th release on Metal Blade Records. The video was shot on location at The National in Richmond, VA by acclaimed Fangoria Director Dave Kendry. Check out the video at FANGORIA.com.
Quoth Lord Oderus, Master of Earth, “The metal warriors of GWAR are proud to present to the human race the first music video from our new album, “Bloody Pit of Horror”, directed by Dave McKendry of FANGORIA magazine. The video tells the story of how when we tried to originally shoot this video, the unholy noise of our first single “Zombie’s March”, summoned the dead from their tombs, crash-scenes, and abortion clinics. They eventually ate the crew! Maybe not so great for MTV, but it makes bloody good fun…”
FANGORIA sliced its way onto the scene in 1979, becoming the only national publication devoted to the modern horror genre. COUGH recently appeared at a CMJ record release party hosted by Brooklyn Vegan’s BBG; their side of the split is currently streaming here on the BV website. You can also check out the new joint from THE WOUNDED KINGS up onThe Obelisk.
On Side A, Cough’s “The Gates of Madness” crawls through nearly twenty minutes of distorted, tortured doom, dragging leaden feet towards a half-dug grave. Heavier than sin and as hopeless as a murderer’s prayers, this Richmond quartet recently joined forces with Relapse Records to release their second full-length, Ritual Abuse, and are gearing up for two massive live actions – one to span the States, one to cross the sea and infiltrate Europe’s borders. The cursed influence of Electric Wizard, Graves at Sea, drug lust, hard living and lonely Southern nights have coalesced into a many-headed beast that wishes nothing but ill unto its fellows. So high, so dead…
Side B summons the gorgeously crafted, mournfully executed notes of Dartmoor, England’s TheWounded Kings, whose deeply affecting, occult-laced take on the traditional side of doom has earned them an outpouring of accolades including an invitation to last year’s edition of the prestigiousRoadburn festival. “Curse of Chains” will grab you by the heartstrings and drag you to your knees – fifteen plus minutes of doom as it should be done. Haunting words soar high above a crushing swath of riffage and deathly tempo, draped under a veil of apocalyptic sadness, occult ritualism, and sweet melancholia. Fans of Warning, Candlemass, Reverend Bizarre, rejoice; this is a love song for the end of the world…

Bassist Joey DeMaio explains : “This is a history-making moment. We’ve had a couple of people ask why re-record a record like Battle Hymns when it’s perfect – I didn’t say it’s perfect, but other people have said it’s perfect, and we thank you for that. We’re not trying to make it better, because it is what it is, but there’s a lot of technology now that we didn’t have when we made the record and we’re gonna take advantage of it to make it as loud as we possibly can. So it won’t be better, it will just be different and the songs themselves deserve to be recorded again because they’re great songs and the fans have actually requested a lot of this to happen. And also, Donnie Hamzik, our original drummer, is back in the band and he wanted to have another go at it. We’re all together and we’re gonna have a fuckin’ great time. So thanks for staying with us.”
Battle Hymns featured the following tracklisting:

HEAVEN & HELL: Neon Nights will be released on November 16th via Eagle Rock. This DVD and CD release captures the historic four-man army performing at the Wacken Open Air Festival on July 30th, 2009. A clip of the band performing the BLACK SABBATH classic ‘Children Of The Sea’ can be viewed below:
Neon Nights - 30 Years Of HEAVEN & HELL - Live At Wacken CD, DVD Due In November 2010
On this hot summer night, vocalist RONNIE JAMES DIO, guitarist TONY IOMMI, bassist GEEZER BUTLER, and drummer VINNY APPICE commanded the stage, transcending the mere concept of a heavy metal concert. The strength and veracity of Dio’s delivery, which has inspired three generations of metal vocalists, wrapped itself around each and every audience member. Butler’s declarative bass lines, Iommi’s legendary riffing, and Appice’s unrelenting fills provide the forceful heartbeat behind anthems ‘Mob Rules’, ‘Die Young’, ‘Neon Knights’, and namesake tune ‘Heaven And Hell’.
The DVD also boasts 30th anniversary interviews with all four band members as a bonus feature. Personal one-on-one’s are conducted with Ronnie, Tony, Geezer, and Vinny as they reflect on the making of their Heaven And Hell album. Additionally, the Neon Nights DVD has newly recorded personal tributes from Iommi, Appice, and Butler in memory of Dio.

Sanctuary/Universal Music UK recently confirmed a November 1st release date for the deluxe-edition reissues of the BLACK SABBATH albums Seventh Star, The Eternal Idol, Live At Last and Past Lives.
Black Sabbath News has an extensive article regarding the Seventh Star and The Eternal Idol albums including numerous photos.
Joe Siegler writes: “I cannot recommend these albums highly enough. Eternal Idol a bit more due to the inclusion of the long unreleased Ray Gillen album. But both are worthy purchases. Even if you’ve bought the original releases, the Castle releases, and any other versions.. Go grab these. Support Tony Iommi and validate his decision to release these rare Ray Gillen recordings, and buy these. You can do so by clicking on the cover art above. Also, Amazon UK’s site has samples from all the tracks available for you to check out, too.”
After the departure of Black Sabbath’s third vocalist Ian Gillan following the Born Again album (released in 1983) the band effectively split up and the remaining members embarked upon their own solo ventures. However, pressure from record companies and management would dictate the name Black Sabbath should forge-ahead and even though guitarist Tony Iommi would by now be the sole remaining original member, his unmistakable musicality and signature guitar sound would prove more than sufficient to keep the heart of Black Sabbath alive and beating deep into the 1980s and beyond.
Seventh Star (originally released in 1986) saw Iommi recruiting the skills of Dave “The Beast” Spitz and drummer Eric Singer (later of KISS) and for the first time the position of a keyboardist became a visible credit and long-serving back-room operator Geoff Nicholls was finally brought to the foreground as an official member. However, it would be the position of lead vocalist that would have the greatest impact upon the new Sabbath sound and the appointment of ex-TRAPEZE and DEEP PURPLE bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes set interest and expectations high. Seventh Star would be somewhat of a departure from what was expected from the Black Sabbath name, and the songs on Seventh Star are more blues inclined and in the case of the single release, ‘No Stranger To Love’, an altogether more AOR- and radio-friendly breeze is adopted.
This remastered deluxe expanded edition of the album adds the U.S. remix of the ‘No Stranger To Love’ single and also for the very first time on CD, a live performance from London’s Hammersmith Odeon in June ’86 which features then-unknown American singer Ray Gillen who was brought-in to complete the tour following the departure of Glenn Hughes due to illness.
The Eternal Idol (Black Sabbath’s thirteenth studio album released in 1987) was an altogether harder-sounding record and brought back an ‘edge’ that had been missing from Seventh Star. Although the album was originally recorded with unknown American singer Ray Gillen, by the time it came to the album release Tony Martin had joined the band and subsequently replaced all the vocal work for the final album.
The Eternal Idol remastered deluxe expanded edition adds two single B-sides from ‘The Shining’ – ‘Black Moon’ and ‘Some Kind Of Woman’ ‘ while the second disc brings to CD for the very first time the complete album session originally recorded by the late Ray Gillen.

Although controversial in nature due to being released without permission or sanction by the band at the time, Live At Last (originally released in July 1980), was regardless, a landmark release for Black Sabbath, it being their first proper live album to feature Ozzy Osbourne on vocals (despite the fact that he had parted company with the band two years earlier). Reaching Top 5 in the UK chart, the tracks were recorded on the Vol. 4 tour some seven years prior in 1973 and specifically from shows performed in Manchester and London. From the opening salvo of ‘Tomorrow’s Dream’ through ‘Sweet Leaf’, ‘Killing Yourself To Live’ and ‘Snowblind’, right up to the finale of ‘War Pigs’, the mammoth ‘Wicked World’ (with snippets of ‘Into The Void’ and ‘Supernaut’) and the inevitable closer, ‘Paranoid’, this is the original Black Sabbath lineup in ferocious form – and when it’s this good, there was no-one better!
Captured between 1970 and 1975, the recordings on Past Lives show a band moving along the fast track like a runaway train. Opening disc one, with ‘Tomorrow’s Dream’, this live collection is both bombastic and unrelenting. In some respects, Black Sabbath classics like ‘Sweet Leaf’, ‘Children Of The Grave’, ‘War Pigs’ and ‘Paranoid’ sound even more haunting and powerful on this set because of the transcendent live energy that pervades these songs. Bill Ward has occasionally referred to a “fifth member” joining them on stage, a non-literal suggestion denoting the sheer power and energy of the four Sabs on stage together. Tracks one-five were recorded at the Hard Rock in Manchester on March 11, 1973 while tracks six-nine were recorded at the Rainbow Theatre in London on March 16, 1973. Disc two expands the more familiar and available performances on disc one, with further compelling live versions of tracks recorded in Paris at the Olympia Theatre in December 1970 and Asbury Park Convention Hall, New Jersey during August of 1975.

Extreme metal at its very best, plain and simple, is what the Atlanta based quintet DAATH delivers. The group’s highly anticipated third full-length, self-titled release is now available everywhere through Century Media Records. The disc is a face-melting masterpiece that was co-produced by the renowned Mark Lewis (Trivium, Devildriver) and Eyal Levi (guitars). The group is now more determined, energized and focused than ever before and expanded upon their unique, uncompromising and dynamic sound. For those previously uninitiated, feel free to head over to www.myspace.com/daathto hear new tracks and see what they are all about.
DAATH is currently preparing for a plethora of worldwide touring, which kicks off on Nov. 24th in North America as the group heads out on a trek with Chimaira and Impending Doom. This will lead them immediately into a lengthy European run with Fear Factory, so be sure to either see below or visit the band’s MySpace page to view their complete touring itinerary.
Levi states: “After everything we’ve been through it’s fucking exciting to know that our third label release came out in the U.S. this week. This album is a monumental achievement for all of us involved. It’s up to you to decide if you like it, but we know what we went through to create it. This is the deepest we’ve ever gone and the farthest we’ve ever reached. You could call this record a spiritual/emotional emergency surgery of sorts. It’s real. It’s raw. It’s full of truth. We climbed the mountain and came to the brink, but still managed to conquer it. And now that the dust has settled and dudes have regained their sanity, the record is out! And we’re stoked that we get to bring it to the world, face to face, this winter. We will annihilate the U.S. with Chimaira and Impending Doom and then conquer Europe with Fear Factory and High on Fire. We look forward to seeing you all soon.”
Uniting the aggressiveness of classic American death metal with a modern metal twist, unrivaled musicianship and catchiness to equal parts, DAATH are well prepared to gather legions of new fans worldwide – with sharpened blades at hand this band is destined to become the genre’s most efficient sonic killing machine!
Guitarist/vocalist Ashmedi of Mesopotamian blackened thrash pioneers MELECHESH, has issued the third of several track by track explanations of songs from their forthcoming album. The Epigenesis was released on October 1st in Europe and will be made available on October 26th in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.
6. When Halos of Candles Collide (Instrumental)
“A perfectly placed instrumental gives the album a new a dimension. This composition reminds me of indian ragas. The piece starts with an acoustic indian sitar, a very mystical sounding instrument. It felt natural to play and was much needed to make this piece complete. The middle part is performed with a 12 string electric guitar which sounds very vintage. Moloch and I mused on the idea to have indian sounding scales, he then recorded a demo for this piece which sounded monumental. We decided to use it. I added other cosmetic 12 string guitars and the electric guitar/sitar hybrid. The piece gradually decends into the sitar again. Perfect for meditation and reflection. And a sure needed breather prior to the following track!”
7. Defeating the Giants
“This song starts with a raw old school guitar riff and a sitar melody. The sitar gives the impression of a rational transition after the previous intrumental. The first two riffs of the song were written circa 1995 -1996 back in Jerusalem. We never thought of using them, not until now at least. When I heard some old reherasal tapes from that era I had the main two riffs accompnaied by drums and I was impressed. The middle part and bridges are different very dynamic, with intense yet logical drum rolls then a neck breaking beat with almost bending decending notes. The song returns to its intensity and what I particularly like is the way it ends. Rather than a crash hit there is an ice bell hit. It is very difinitive and represents the end of a banishing ritual. This ice bell has a lot of history with us. It is featured on all ABSU albums but the last and on all MELECHESH albums aside from the first. The silk lanes of Hena, Labrynth map, tell us the tale of ego and loss!”
MELECHESH have made the track “Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin” available for streaming on their Myspace page www.myspace.com/Melechesh. The track comes from the bands new album The Epigenesis.
The Epigenesis was recorded in the newly built first class Babajim Studios in Istanbul, Turkey. The album was mixed by Reuben de Lautour and mastered by Pieter Snapper. In an unprecedented move in metal, the band chose to record the album entirely in Istanbul in an attempt to capture the inspiring surroundings. Babajim Studios is run by some of the most elite sound engineers in Turkey.
The artwork (attached) to their long awaited 5th album was handled by renowned UK based occult artist John Coulthart, whom the band has previously collaborated with before.
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of JEFF SCOTT SOTO’s double live album “Live at Firefest 2008” on December 3rd 2010. Firefest has become a pivotal event in the Melodic Rock season in Europe. Born from the ashes of the ‘Gods of AOR’ festival, Firefest started in 2004 and not only did they continue the tradition of Europe’s finest Melodic Rock/AOR festivals, but exceeded all previous expectations.
Not many bands have the chance to play on ‘that’ stage nowadays and when Bruce Mee and Kieran Dargan have realized the demand for particular artists to continuing rounding up annually. Jeff Scott Soto was no stranger to ‘that’ stage. He performed at the Gods festival in 2002 putting up an amazing show that was mirrored with a live CD/DVD. So when the call came to Jeff about the new and continued version of this proven festival, he wasted no time in answering “Of course!”.
But not all good things come easily… “Unfortunately the date clashed with my commitments touring with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in the US for their annual Winter Tour” recalls Jeff. “This meant a week of 12 hour rehearsals in the US, leaving on a Friday to land in London on a Saturday morning, bee-line it up to Nottingham for 4 hours in traffic, meet with the band for 30 minutes, as they were wrapping up the ONLY rehearsal we had prior to the show (the last time we had played together was nearly a year prior!), straight to the venue and onstage within the next hour!”
But once onstage, the warmth of the crowd and the energy transmitted by the electricity of the event was such that Jeff and his band stormed through our 70 minute set like gangbusters! It was the first time the songs from the “Beautiful Mess” album were performed in Europe and the last show the original JSS band featuring Howie Simon on guitar, Dave Dzialak on drums and Gary Schutt on bass played together.
In JSS words: “Here it is in all its glory, a little extra something for you all to help me remember this wonderful night of music and memories”.
“Live at Firefest 2008” tracklisting includes:
CD1: 21st Century; Colour My XTC (prelude); Soul Divine; Drowning; Our Song; DD Solo; Guitar Jam; Mountain; Eyes Of Love; Testify; Broken Man.
CD2: Hey; Crazy; Piano Medley (If This Is The End, Nobody Said It Was Easy, 4 U); Gin & Tonic Sky; I’ll Be Waiting; Funky Medley (Play That Funky Music, Jungle Boogie, The Roof Is On Fire, Brick House, Shake Your Booty, Kung Fu Fighting, Yo Baby Yo, Macho Man, Ice Ice Baby, Stayin’ Alive, Another One Bites The Dust, Walk This Way, My Love, My Friend)
The songs “21st Century” and “Eyes Of Love” can exclusively be listened in full in streaming on the Frontiers Web radio. Tune in at: www.frontiers.it/webradio
Tour poster: NILE, EX DEO, PSYCROPTIC, KEEP OF KALESSIN, PATHOLOGY
PSYCROPTIC will be joined by guest vocalist Zdenek Simecek (GODLESS TRUTH) on their upcoming US tour with NILE, EX DEO, KEEP OF KALESSIN and PATHOLOGY. Vocalist Jason Peppiatt will be unable to join the band on the tour due to the imminent arrival of his newborn son.
“A month or so after we confirmed the US tour I was greeted with the excellent news that I would be a new father, halfway through the tour no less,” commented Peppiatt. “Since I could not miss the birth, and I couldn’t exactly drive from the US to Tasmania, I talked it through with the rest of the guys and decided to ask Zdenek in to fill for the last tour of the Ob(servant) album for me. Zdenek has been a long time friend of the band and is a super talented vocalist, so I’m happy to have him in my shoes for this run. I’ll be working hard demoing the new material while at home (as well as changing nappy’s), and I’ll see you all in 2011!”
Fresh on the heels of PSYCROPTIC‘s successful first ever Co-Headlining tour of Europe with CEPHALIC CARNAGE on the ‘Initiation of the Misled’ tour, the band are set to embark on a comprehensive North American tour supporting Death Metal legends NILE on their upcoming tour. Along with PATHOLOGY and fellow Nuclear Blast Label Mates, EX DEO & KEEP OF KALESSIN, the US tour will cover cities from Coast to Coast throughout October, November and December.
After what has been a mammoth touring schedule for 2010, that has also included China, Inner Mongolia, Australia and New Zealand, the band will head into the studio at the beginning of 2011 to record the highly anticipated follow up to 2008’s critically acclaimed (Ob)Servant. Songwriting for the new album is well under way and will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that PSYCROPTIC really are
Australia’s premier extreme metal band.
