BRAINSTORM in studio preparing new album “On The Spur Of The Moment”!

March 10th, 2011
by EvilG

Good news for all lovers of high class power metal: BRAINSTORM have entered the studio 22 in Ludwigsburg (Germany) to record their new album “On The Spur Of The Moment”.

Here´s a first video from the recordings:

Vocalist Andy B. Franck:

“Since February 25th we are back together in the studio to work on the new album. We decided to record it with Axel Heckert in the Studio 22 in Ludwigsburg. Axel is a huge fan of the band and he will help us to reach a whole new level. The song material we have is again more aggressive than the last songs we had written. For us “Memorial Roots” was a cool album, but “On The Spur Of The Moment” will be a BLAST! We are really happy and excited to start recording new material because we cannot hear the old songs anymore… time for something new!”

by EvilG

MORBID ANGEL - Trey AzagthothFrench label Season Of Mist will release the eighth studio album from Florida extreme metallers MORBID ANGEL, Illud Divinum Insanus, on June 6th internationally, June 7th in North America. The album will be released in Japan via JVC (date TBA).

Season Of Mist will release a single, ‘Nevermore’, on May 16th as 7” collectors edition vinyl and digital download.

As previously reported, Illud Divinum Insanus will include ten songs, at least three of which stretch the boundaries of what is conventional Morbid territory. was privy to a sneak peek of four tracks, including the more traditional ‘Nevermore’ and the bizarre guitar that sounds like a keyboards of ‘I Am Morbid’, which begins with live crowd chant.

Morbid Angel’s ninth album begins with the letter I, keeping with the band’s tradition of naming their albums in alphabetical order beginning with 1989’s Altars Of Madness through 2003’s Heretic. The album was tracked at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida with engineer Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL; former Morbid Angel guitarist).

Metal Assault caught up drummer Tim Yeung at the Scion Rock Fest in Pomona, CA. It was Yeung’s first live performance with the Florida extreme metal legends and the first show in 20 years that original drummer Pete Sandoval was not on the drum stool (he’s currently recovering from back surgery).

About the new Morbid Angel album, Yeung says it’s finished and being mastered now. “It’s great, I’m really excited about it. I will be touring with them for the next year, this full album cycle. Pete’s a big inspiration to us all and he’s a very special player. I knew that the shows were big to fill, but I’m more than ready.”

Chicago deathcore heavyweights, OCEANO were named as one of Alternative Press magazine’s 100 Bands You Need To Know In 2011. Distinguished for being one of the heaviest acts on the list, OCEANO‘s story is a remarkable one which is touched upon in a 1 page feature within the April 2011 issue (in stores now). In it, vocalist, Adam Warren touches upon the changes made before CONTAGION was written, the constant battle for respect out of certain segments of the metal audience and vocal techniques that keep the formidable frontman on his toes over the course of the hundreds of shows that the Billboard charting act plays each year.

OCEANO‘s feature in Alternative PressApril 2011 100 Bands You Need To Know issue is in stores now and can also be read here:

OCEANO‘s feature in the April 2011 issue of Alternative Press magazine is also remarkable for the dark and disturbing photograph that accompanies it. The band is featured amongst rows of dead deer hung in a dank slaughterhouse. The photograph brings the band full circle in some respects, paying homage to the banned MySpace photos that caused an uproar when the band first signed to EARACHE RECORDS.

Angel Witch

Angel Witch

One of the prime cult-bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal will finally debut at SRF! Angel Witch, led by singer/guitarist Kevin Heybourne, released their eponymous debut in 1980. The album was a historical landmark in ominous, diabolical and mystical heavy metal. Shortly thereafter, line-up problems led to the break-up of Angel Witch. However, Kevin Heybourne has revived his “baby” on a(n ir)regular basis, to tour and record the occasional new album. In our time, the computer game “Brütal Legend”, featuring Angel Witch’s signature song “Angel Witch”, has contributed to a whole new generation discovering the band. Now these new fans can cheer along with the old ones as songs like “Angel Witch”, “Angel of Death” and “Sorcerers” echo over the domains of SRF.

Former ANNIHILATOR bassist Sandor de Bretan announces the release of his band’s new self-titled CD, SUDDEN THUNDER.

States de Bretan: “The cd was originally recorded in 1992, but with the industry heading in the direction of grunge and alternative music, Sudden Thunder chose to call it quits. The band re-united around 2009. The CD was remixed, the artwork re-done, and now it looks and sounds KILLER! Great vocals, lush harmonies, kickass guitar work, melodic bass lines, and solid drum work! And above all, great songs!”

Sudden Thunder also includes members of IVORY KNIGHT (John Devadasan Perinbam – lead and backing vocals; Rob Gravelle – guitar, vocals), as well as newcomer Mike Lane (ex-ANTIX) on drums.

Says Sandor: “The music of SUDDEN THUNDER is a crossbreed of rock, rock / metal, rock / progressive, with no preconceived notions regarding musical style. We have always written whatever we feel – straight from the heart, with no boundaries. Our fans have always admired the fact that we write what we want – everything from badass progressive and metal tunes with crazy riffing all the way to those ‘we want to make you cry’ ballads.“

The SUDDEN THUNDER CD showcases this versatility, with songs ranging from the good-times rock vibe of the opener Tonight is the Night, the warm One Night Stand (featuring lead vocals by de Bretan) and culminating in the progressive metal tale of a descent into madness – Slipping into Oblivion – and everything else in between!

“SUDDEN THUNDER also has created an extensive line of high-quality merchandise including long and short sleeve T-shirts, with more coming soon”, states de Bretan.

SUDDEN THUNDER is currently working on its 2nd CD, finalizing arrangements and selecting songs. Says Sandor: “This band is amazing – the guys are awesome to work with, and the material that we have been writing lately is wicked – some of it’s a touch more to the metal side but still in a rock vein. And we seem to have an endless vault of materials to draw from – which helps out with any stress factors concerning writing new stuff. It’s great having around 80-plus songs from the past to choose from, and we are constantly writing new materials ….the sky’s the limit!! Now that we are back together and going strong, we are searching for all the key players to bring us on board with them: labels, management, promoters etc…. so we can get out on tour, release more cd’s and merch and make ourselves known globally.”

It’s going to be the biggest and most presigious tour we’ve taken part in, and we just can’t wait to be there to spew Erebos songs on the crowds! I know such a long tour is a challenge, but I’m sure we’re well prepare for it. It’s gonna be our second tour in North America after last year’s raid with Hypocrisy which was a great experience for us.”

HATE ETERNAL and ORIGIN co-headling tour confirmed for summer 2011

March 9th, 2011
by EvilG

Decibel Magazine & present Hate Eternal and Origin with Vital Remains, Abysmal Dawn

Erik Rutan and co. will be heading out this summer in support of their new album for Metal Blade Records, which is currently in the final stages of being completed. The tour is being presented by Decibel Magazine and in association with, Scion, Laboga, and Choosing Death. Hate Eternal’s new album promises to be one of the most venomous slabs of death metal in 2011 and this tour, which features fellow death metal greats Origin, Vital Remains and Abysmal Dawn, will easily be one of the heaviest line ups of the year.

Erik Rutan adds, “Hate Eternal is super excited to be touring North America this summer with a new album and a completely awesome death metal package. It has been a while since we have done a headliner tour in the US, so for us to co-headline with Origin and add Vital Remains and Abysmal Dawn to the bill, totally has us amped up and psyched like you can’t imagine!

We eagerly and anxiously await our time until we can get out there and play material from old to new for the death metal masses. Looking forward to seeing you all at the shows, and we hope you’re hungry for over the top intense sonic destruction. This is a tour you do not want to miss!”

More news regarding Hate Eternal’s new album will be coming soon, including song premieres, pre-orders and more. Keep an eye on and for updates!

ABIGAIL WILLIAMS’ latest album In The Absence Of Light was released in September via Candlelight. Recorded at Conquistador Studios in Cleveland and mixed by Peter Tagtgren (Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Celtic Frost) at Black Lounge Studios in Sweden, the album presents founder/vocalist/guitarist Sorceron with new guitarist Ian Jekelis and drummer Ken Bedene. The album’s eight songs, written exclusively by Sorceron, contain far more urgency then the band’s previous material, cutting down on snyth and keyboards without depleting their crushing atmospheric capabilities, while adding a more brutal, sinister edge to their attack.

Do you recall the wonder singer who dubbed Mark Wahlberg’s vocal parts in the movie “Rock Star” (2001)? Thats right – Miljenko Matijevic, the Croatian-American main man of Steelheart from Connecticut. The band was acclaimed as one of the finest in early 90s’ hair metal. The two first albums “Steelheart” (1990) and “Tangled in Reins” (1992) overflow with classics like “Angel Eyes”, “Steelheart” and the killer ballad “She’s Gone”. Steelheart dissolved in 1992 after Miljenko getting severely injured on stage by a falling lighting rig. An attempted comeback in 1996 proved abortive, but ten years later Miljenko revived Steelheart for real and released the Led Zeppelin-influenced “Good 2B Alive” in 2008. Now the band makes their Swedish debut – beware of glass-shattering high notes when Miljenko opens his mouth!
