Mark “M.E.” Edwards – Custom presets for new VST AMP RACK plugin; Statement regarding the recent passing of Gary Moore

February 25th, 2011
by EvilG

Steinberg USA has invited M.E. to design custom presets for the  new VST AMP RACK plugin  that comes with their new CUBASE 6 DAW software.  This is a great honor for M.E. These presets will be made available via download  from the Steinberg website in the coming months.

Meanwhile. M.E. will be demonstrating the VST AMP RACK during two New York City area CLUB CUBASE events during the first week of March. They will be held at GUITAR CENTER stores. Dates and information can be found at: http://www.steinberg.net/en/newsandevents/events/club_cubase.html

And a video has been uploaded to Youtube showing M.E. working on his presets with Steinberg’s Sal Pelaez at G&S Recording Studios in New Jersey. Check it out:

Screen shots from one of M.E.’s presets can be viewed at his Facebook page.

On a final, and sadder, note… below is M.E.s statement regarding the recent passing of Gary Moore.

On February 6, 2011, the world lost a legendary guitarist. Ireland’s Gary Moore. When I read the news, I was in shock.

I am a huge fan of Gary’s rock/metal work, and had the pleasure to see him live on the WILD FRONTIER tour. For about 25 years, I have been referring to Gary as “my favorite living guitarist”. He influenced me greatly. Just a week before his death, I had performed two of his tunes live. His instrumental BLINDER, and his version of Free’s WISHING WELL. And his influence from tunes like PARISIENNE WALKWAYS and THE MESSIAH WILL COME AGAIN can be found in a number of my songs, specifically LOVERS.

R.I.P. Gary Moore. We lost you far too soon….but your music will not only live on forever in your own recordings, but also in the inspiration you have given other players who will continue to speak your praises. – Mark “M.E.” Edwards Guitarist/Overlorde

Artillery – world-premiere of the video “Warrior Blood”

February 25th, 2011
by EvilG

The promo video to “Warrior Blood” – a track from “My Blood”, the forthcoming album by Artillery – is available on Metal Mind Productions’ channel on YouTube. The video was recorded in early February with Morten Madsen as a producer.

As previously announced, Artillery, one of the best thrash metal bands around, returns with a brand new studio album. New material entitled “My Blood” is the follow-up to their highly acclaimed album “When Death Comes” (2009). The album will be released as a jewel case CD and as a digipak CD including 2 bonus tracks. Japanese edition of the album will include an exclusive bonus track which won’t be available elsewhere. Metal Mind Productions set the release date for 21st March in Europe, 16th March in Japan (via King Records) and 5th April in USA (via MVD).

Denmark’s Artillery is one of Europe’s earliest exponents of thrash metal and the band’s contribution to the bourgeoning genre is difficult to ignore. The Danish quartet successfully managed to fuse an abrasive brutality with technicality and good melodies, with the noteworthy guitar leads of the Stützer brothers as well as the remarkable vocals from Flemming Rønsdorf serving as highlights. Due to Artillery’s demos being well distributed, the band gained worldwide recognition even before the release of their first official album; and the band’s first three studio albums, “Fear of Tomorrow”, “Terror Squad” and “By Inheritance”, all assumed the status of classics in the thrash genre. However, due to lack of support from labels and internal band disputes, Artillery never really achieved their big breakthrough and thus split up in 1991. In late 1999, Artillery reunited and released the critically acclaimed album “B.A.C.K.”, but they never really took off as a band again. A few live appearances came in the wake of the release, only to be followed by silence. However, in 2008 the classic core of Artillery, consisting of Morten and Michael Stützer as well as Peter Thorslund (bass) and Carsten N. Nielsen (drums) rejoined forces and subsequently employed new vocalist Søren Adamsen, who provided the band with a rejuvenated energy and a musical prowess that was soon witnessed on the live DVD “One Foot in the Grave, The Other One in the Trash”, containing updated versions of classic material. Another new chapter in the life of Artillery has now begun with their brand new studio album, “My Blood”, which contains 11 blistering tracks that fill the void between past glory and future splendor. New material was recorded between November 2010 and January 2011 at Medley Studios in Denmark with Søren Andersen as the producer. The band promote the new album with a video clip to the track “Warrior Blood”. What can we expect from the musical side of the new album? Guitarist Michael Stützer says: “The sound is a bit more heavy than it was on ‘When Death Comes’. The music is a mixture of our previous albums ‘When Death Comes’ and ‘By Inheritance’, with a slight touch of ‘Terror Squad’ and ‘Fear of Tomorrow’ with some oriental pieces.” The producer Søren Andersen added: “There is an almost rock´n roll feeling in some of the songs”.

SKULLDRIVER SIGNS FOR [EG] PUBBLICHE RELAZIONI

February 25th, 2011
by EvilG

After Baton Rogue Morgue our Agency signs another amazing band coming out from the cold lands of Finland: SKULLDRIVER!!!

– Here some biographical notes to present the band:

It all started back in 1999 in a small redneck village in the southern part of Finland called Liljendal.

Kuli and Karda a.k.a “Mr.Deeler” where about 16 years old, they started jamming together with their friend Joni Kosonen (who now plays guitar in a band called Circle of Contempt).

They started a band called Infiltrator and played together for a few years playing mostly covers, but had a few songs of their own. As the years went on Joni moved with his family to the northern part of Finland, the rest of the guys got kicked out from their rehearsal place wich was supported by the church, due to some conflicting opinions with the local priest and soon the band would split.

In 2005 the guys came together again.

Pede and Kuli found themselves jamming together and Karda was heading back home, later to be known as camp Skulldriver.

Some new members were joining, Jocke a.k.a “J.P Ecker Holmes” and Tomi.

Now things started to happen.

New material was written immediately.

Hard riffing ,grooving and with a touch of insane energy …Skulldriver was founded…

In 2006 they released their first EP with the tracks Locomotive and Push the button.

For about a year the band played shows here and there in small clubs and bars and the audience feedback was overwhelming.

New material kept coming and a new EP with the songs “Saviour” and “Usage” wich was released on the internet.

The guys continued writing material and playing gigs with such bands as Kiuas, Omnium gatherum, Sturm und drang, Baton Rogue Morgue, Coprolith, Trident, Millennia and many more. The reputation in the Finninsh underground metal scene was here to stay, and is yet growing!

In 2009 the former drummer of Millennia called Arska joined the Skulldriver crew as a third guitar player, the redneck godforsaken bastard crew was complete, he found his place immediately and it didn´t take long for the guys to decide to make a full-length album consisting of old and new material. And so in January 2010 “Facts, Fictions and Fucked up Situations” was self released.

EYEHATEGOD Ready For Tomorrow’s Annual Mardi Gras Show

February 24th, 2011
by EvilG

Band Returns Safely From Their East Coast Tour; Mike Williams Comments On CT Cancellation The members of EYEHATEGOD arrived home from their latest East Coast run of dates earlier this week with varying degrees of injuries — mental, spiritual and physical. Dubbed the “Unchecking Our Already Questionable Health In A Shitty Van Tour 2011,” vocalist Mike Williams, guitarists Jimmy Bower and Brian Patton, bassist Gary Mader and drummer Joey LaCaze, kicked off the festivities in Philadelphia, PA on February 16th and systematically leveled clubs in Baltimore, Brooklyn, Syracuse and Boston before being forced to miss their show in Connecticut

Commented Williams of the cancellation: “Due to horribly bad weather, we had to cancel our Milford, Connecticut show on Monday in order to make it back down South. Many apologies to the true fans who came to the show disappointed. EYEHATEGOD are greedy, money pig bastards, so don’t think we passed up this gig for any other reason but shitty snow and ice.” Check out footage of the band playing a new tune at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia HERE

Bringing the festivities to a close, the proud brothers of New Orleans riff debauchery and feedback will play their annual Mardi Gras show tomorrow at Siberia with Phobia and Venomous Maximus.

2227 St Claude Ave.

As previously reported, EYEHATEGOD will unleash an official live DVD on March 22 via MVD. Simply titled Live, the 88-minute production features multi-camera footage from 2009 (Baltimore, MD) and 2010 (Cleveland, OH), with bonus clips from the last show of their 2010 European tour and videos never before released before on DVD. A perfect dose of Black Flag meets Black Sabbath in ragged, live glory. WOODS OF YPRES TO EMBARK ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

February 24th, 2011
by EvilG

The Canadian blackened doom merchants, WOODS OF YPRES have lined up a North American tour in support of the EARACHE reissue of the their acclaimed 2009 effort, WOODS IV: THE GREEN ALBUM. This will be WOODS OF YPRES‘ first full-on tour since mainman David Gold got back from a teaching stint in Kuwait.

Back on the road where he belongs, David checked in to say a few words about his anticipation for the tour

“It’s perfect!  W4: The Green Album was always intended to be a “spring” album centred around themes of rain, renewal, reinvention and recycling of the soul and here we are at the dirty end of winter 2011, having The Green Album re-released on Earache Records and touring the east coast in the very green and hopeful but yet typically still cold and cloudy month of March. It’ll include a special green beer St. Patrick’s Day show in Worcester and a long awaited return to celtic-flavoured Eastern Canada!  So pack a cheap umbrella of which you can plan to get drunk and forget at the venue because us bad-luck-fucks are bringing our no-leaf-clover doom and gloom to your town this March with the black cloud-still-a-followin’ over our heads. Even though we’ve got nothin’ left to lose and no other purpose left in life but to exhibit our cathartic recklessness for your entertainment.

We knew what love was and now, we also know how to be cruel.  A WOODS OF YPRES show is a heavy, heaving slab of both.  It’s poison-medicine for both hardworking modern minds who’ve just given up on their dreams and fellow bleeding fucking hearts who no longer give a shit. Anyways, the timing of The Green Album re-release and The Green Album tour may be the first thing in the history of this band that has ever gone right…so we’re very excited and surprised about the coincidence, because that’s all is really is.  Bring your merch money for a “Wet Leather” t-shirt and a Green Album double-vinyl. See you in March!  Come drink beers, hear the band’s music and watch watch us personally destroy what’s left of ourselves!”

Here are the dates:

March 10 – Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario @ The Rosie
March 11 – Sudbury Ontario, @ The Serbian Centre (Sudbury Metalfeast)
March 12 – Barrie, Ontario @ The Fox Lounge
March 13 – Toronto, Ontario @ The Mod Club
March 15 – Philadelphia, PA @ Johhny Brenda’s
March 16 – New York City, NY @ The Bowery Electric
March 17 – Worcester, MA @ Ralph’s Rock Diner
March 18 – St. John, NB @ SunStar Lounge
March 19 – Halifax, NS @ Coconut Grove
March 20 – Moncton, NB @ The Manhattan Bar
March 21 – Fredericton, NB @ The Capital Complex

LAST CHANCE TO REASON Post New Track On Facebook

February 24th, 2011
by EvilG

Experimental prog-metal sextet, LAST CHANCE TO REASON, has posted the track, “Coded To Fail,” on their Facebook page. Go there now and “Like” the profile to get an exclusive listen to the track from their Prosthetic Records’ debut, “Level 2,” due out in North America on April 12th. Be sure to “share” the page! Pre-order for the CD, on its own, or with a shirt is available at PROSTHETIC’s official webstore. Last week, the band unveiled a sneak peak at the “Level 2” video game, inspired by the album. Check out the footage now. The band is currently on a Canadian tour and will join Atheist for dates in early March. They will also be appearing at this year’s New England Metal and Hardcore Festival.

LAST CHANCE TO REASON teamed up with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) to create a modern take on the classic progressive concept album. Drawing influence from the 70’s prog of King Crimson and Yes, composers Steve Reich and Schoenberg as well as prog-metal masters Opeth, Dream Theater and Cynic, LCTR’s “Level 2” takes the band in awe-inspiring new directions.

Set in a Tron-like virtual world, the album’s concept revolves around the relationship between man and technology, our move from physical reality to virtual spaces and what these changes mean to our lives and our art. The lyrics are expressed from the point of view of an artificial intelligence facing the violent reality of a videogame world.

SIGN OF THE JACKAL TO RELEASE “THE BEYOND”

February 24th, 2011
by EvilG
SIGN OF THE JACKAL - "THE BEYOND"

SIGN OF THE JACKAL - "THE BEYOND"

Italy’s traditional heavy metal warriors SIGN OF THE JACKAL first gained praise from the international metal community during late 2009 with the release of their debut single, Haunted House Tapes. Gearing up for a busy 2011, SIGN OF THE JACKAL have returned with The Beyond, a five track Maxi EP to be released by HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS in advance of the band’s appearance at Germany’s KEEP IT TRUE festival alongside label mates ENFORCER and VEKTOR in April. A collection of rare studio tracks and obscure cover versions for die-hard heavy metal maniacs, The Beyond will be released in a limited edition of 2000 CDs and 500 vinyl MLPs on March 8th in the USA and March 14th in Europe. Vinyl version also includes an exclusive bonus sixth track. SIGN OF THE JACKAL’s female fronted melodic metal attack fuses influences from classic Italian horror films from legends such as Lucio Fulci, Mario Bava and Dario Argento with pure heavy metal for fans of Warlock, Doro, Iron Maiden, Acid, Bitch and Blacklace or, more recently, Enforcer, RAM, White Wizzard and Cauldron.

Catch SIGN OF THE JACKAL live at KEEP IT TRUE FESTIVAL XIV:

April 29th-30th 2011 Lauda Koenigshofen, GERMANY

Born in the frigid winter of 2007 in the Rovereto, Italy four friends were brought together by a mutual passion for classic heavy metal and horror movies. These four friends sought to create a band that paid homage to such 80’s metal legends as Warlock, Black Knight, Taist of Iron, Black Lace, Judas Priest and Lizzy Borden-that band became SIGN OF THE JACKAL. The core of the band was formed with Bob on rhythm/lead guitar, Sergio Mate on drums, Kill on bass and lead vocalist and front woman Laura on vocals. The bulk of gigs in their first year found SIGN OF THE JACKAL covering their favorite classic metal songs, opting to avoid the hits and instead keep things interesting with a set list full of rare b-sides and obscure album tracks. However, the band desired to write their own songs and have a fuller sound so in April 2008 rhythm guitarist Max was added to complete the line-up. With the line up complete, SIGN OF THE JACKAL quickly found their own sound, meshing together classic metal and horror influences to create a buzz for themselves amongst European underground metal fans. By Winter 2008 SIGN OF THE JACKAL’s debut two track demo, the aptly-named Haunted House Tapes, found its way across the Atlantic to American underground metal fans and ultimately to HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS which gave Haunted House Tapes the vinyl treatment. Shortly after the release of the single, original bassist Kill was replaced by Roby Knife. With their new and improved line-up, SIGN OF THE JACKAL will be appearing at Germany’s KEEP IT TRUE festival in April and are currently working on their full length album In the Mark of the Beast which will see release later this year on HEAVY ARTILLERY.

Team HAVOK are readying for the release of their upcoming new full-length entitled Time Is Up, which is slated for a March 29th street date via Candlelight Records. The follow-up to the ravaging Burn long-player was mastered by James Murphy and features ten tracks of flawlessly executed thrash anthems. Said Rock Hospital in an early review of the record: “Time Is Up is a killer sophomore effort by four dudes who do justice to their musical forefathers. Cliff Burton would smile on this release.” Added Thrash Hits, “Playing a style of metal that has been around 30 years always runs the risk of feeling tired and overly derivative, but Time Is Up is so lively and bubbling over with personality that it never so much as flirts with those potential pitfalls.” Metal Review agreed: “Havok’s purest intention is to thrash your face into a circle-pitted-pulp, and more often than not they’re wildly successful.”

Check out a Time Is Up video teaser:

HAVOK formed in 2004. After two self-released albums, the band caught the attention of England’s Candlelight Records and by the Spring of 2009, the band unleashed Burn to the metal masses. The album peaked on CMJ’s Loud Rock chart at 15 and broke MediaGuide’s Top 10.
