For over twenty-five years, Lizzy Borden has proudly waved the flag of "American Metal" and consistently delivered his brand of over the top stageshows, heavy on blood soaked theatrics. From the band’s early inception with the release of the "Give ‘em The Axe" EP on Metal Blade Records in 1984, to Lizzy’s notable appearance in Penelope Spheeris’ acclaimed "Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years" Lizzy has stuck by metal through thick and thin and is currently enjoying some much deserved notoriety afforded by the band’s recent nomination for "Video of The Year" on Mtv2’s "Headbanger’s Ball" program, for the song "Tomorrow Never Comes" taken from Lizzy Borden’s most recent studio album "Appointment With Death". Never at a loss for words, the charismatic frontman recently took the time to chat with Metal-Rules.com about his storied career, this summer’s touring activities, new axe-man Dario Lorina, and Lizzy’s immediate plans for the future. Oh yes… "There Will Be Blood Tonight!"
This was actually my first gig since the passing of Ronnie James Dio, and it was really nice to hear classic Rainbow being belted out through the PA before Slayer took to the stage, as today was the date that the Dio memorial was taking place in LA.
It was even nicer to note that the customary chants of Slayer! Slayer! Slayer! were saved for the gaps between tracks, as everyone enjoyed the moment and respected the meaning of the songs. Read the rest of this entry »
Masters of Metal is another addition to the map of the Finnish metal festivals. Originally the event was planned to be carried out in a bigger venue. However, because of the unexpected low ticket sales the whole MOM event was switched to a smaller venue and a couple of bands got dropped from the bill. However the line-up looked pretty solid which should have drawn more people to the event. After all approximately 300 people crawled out to the MOM event. Although the line-up looked all in all solid, but as for the general arrangements of the event, the roadie and break time between each bands was occasionally quite insanely long. That definitely bugged some people off even though the beer was cold and metal ruled. But even though the festival is a small indoor one, if the people of the fest believes in the future of the fest, then we can expect to have another MOM event in the next year.

Accept, the legendary heavy metal band out of Germany, conquered the metal world back in the 80’s with thunderous classic catchy songs such as RESTLESS AND WILD, BALLS TO THE WALL, BREAKER, METAL HEART, and the list continues. The legendary five piece made a triumphant return to the limelight in 2005, crisscrossing European metal and rock festivals and received excited reception from metal fans. However, things within the band didn’t work out and the band went on hiatus. Finally Accept got back together, but without vocalist Udo Dirkschneider. The former TT Quick frontman Mark Tornillo stepped in to take over on vocals. Original members Wolf Hoffman and Peter Baltes had plenty of new strong sounding Accept material written and the new album BLOOD OF THE NATIONS was recorded during last year at the helm of Andy Sneap who had a strong input on new songs and album. The whole band was on a promotion trip and doing some shows here and there. Metal-Rules.Com got an excellent opportunity hear the new album and then hav a chat with Wolf Hoffman and the new singer Mark Tornillo.
Rarely, if ever, has one festival organization gone through so many difficulties as Stockholm Rockout faced out during this spring. First, there were many cancellations for whatever reasons, even some headliners got canceled, and finally the volcano eruption in Iceland and its ash clouds meant that most of the U.S. bands not reaching Sweden in time. The organizers of Rockout didn’t give up and they decided to organize a small-scale one day event with bands which were now available. The actual Rockout -festival will then be re-arranged for later next September. Read the rest of this entry »
After thirty years of wrecking necks live, East Coast thrash metal legends Overkill are still in their prime, as evidenced by this year’s excellent onslaught of an offering dubbed "Ironbound". Hitting the road in support of the new record, the green and black attack headlined the aptly-named KILLFEST tour atop a bill that also featured God Dethroned, Vader, Evile, Warbringer and Woe of Tyrants. Overkill frontman Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth is in good spirits this night in Austin, Texas as he cracks jokes and fills us in on life out on the road. The subject of the evening is primarily focused on the pummeling new Overkill record and the band’s immediate tour plans. Rather than placing too much emphasis on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the band’s debut album "Feel the Fire", Blitz seems very content with the band’s present achievement and looks to the future of the band with excitement and anticipation. Tonight’s concert is further proof why now is as good a time as any, to be an Overkill fan.
Thanks to Tania Baggo at Target Distribution for the help to get this done.
Thanks to Target Records for providing the promo pictures of the band.

I hooked up with band-members Thomas – lead vocals, Morten – guitar and Jacob – drums in the Danish 70’s hard rock/kick ass rockn’ roll act Karma Cowboys with the intent to talk about their brand new album SHAKE IT. We talked about the new album but we also talked about the bands history, labels, touring and what the future has in store for the band. This is the first interview with Karma Cowboys in metal-rules.com and if you’re into retro hard rock/rockn’ roll with a lot of feeling and attitude then be sure to check out the next big act from Denmark.
Australian rock sensation Airbourne has just released its sophomore album titled NO GUTS.NO GLORY. The new world tour started in January and this time it included three shows in Finland which were instantly sold out. In Helsinki I had a change to sit down with the band’s drummer and co ‘founder Tommy O’Keefe. We talked about the new album, the early years and Airbourne’s future plans. Enjoy
The Roadburn festival has gained a real monumental status amongst metal and rock fans around the planet. The festival has become such an ultimate popular event during the past few years that tickets for the festival have been sold out within less than one hour. What makes the Roadburn festival such popular ? Well firstly bands of course, as the festival offers such a diverse line-upl covering a wide range of music from the underground psychedelic and rock, avant-garde stuff, doom or any other variation of metal stuff pleasing the fans of the music and above all the general atmosphere. Metal-Rules got an excellent privilege of visiting the Roadburn festival for the second time in a row to see a plenty of killer bands, smell the taste of the weed and enjoy Triptykon. However as it is widely know the volcanic outburst in Iceland caused nothing but a tremendous headache for the organization of the Roadburn festival. As all the flights were canceled and airports were closed cos ashes of clouds were rolling over Europe resulting several bands were unable to arrive at the Roadburn festival. For example the Swedish doom legends Candlemass was forced to cancel, and Jesu, Evoken and so on. The Norwegians had troubles in getting at Roadburn, but however made it. As several bands didn’t have any other choices, but cancels the appearance that resulted the whole schedule had to be remade and re-arranged. Despite big cancellations, there were after all tons of magic and unique bands on the stage and magic music.
It’s been two years since KISS finished their highly successful Alive 35 -tour in Europe. Last year the band released a brand new studio album SONIC BOOM, their first in eleven years, and now the band brings their rock’n roll circus back here under the banner SONIC BOOM OVER EUROPE : FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE BOOM. The new tour started just under a week ago from Sheffield and now it was time to check out how the”Hottest Band In The World” rocked in Liverpool.
Gothenburg, Sweden’s five-piece of heavy metal crusaders, Hammerfall, recently returned to the United States for their first headlining tour of North America in support of last year’s incredibly successful "No Sacrifice, No Victory" album, their seventh full-length record for Nuclear Blast Records. Hammerfall are no strangers themselves to touring in the U.S. having previously warmed up the stage on previous outings for veteran acts like Death and Dio and most recently performing alongside Edguy several years ago, but this time Hammerfall are at the top of the bill, and who can argue after the band has spent the last thirteen years proving themselves with their distinctive brand of classic and often melodic heavy metal. Hammerfall vocalist Joacim Cans recently took the time to talk metal with Metal-Rules.com and filled us in on the bands current activities and life on the road.
Thanks to Tom Hack at Massacre Records for setting up this interview
Thanks to Massacre Records for the promo pictures of the band.
Here is a brand new interview with Chris Gutjahr the guitarist and band leader in the German act Voices Of Destiny. Their debut album FROM THE ASHES was recently released and is quite amazing. Gutjahr and I hooked up in order to talk about the band, their music and the future for Voices Of Destiny. This is a treat for all dark goth metal fans, read and enjoy.
