SYMFONIA also launches a new website that contains brand new video interviews of Timo Tolkki and Andre Matos.
It’s been quite an eventful year for High On Fire’s guitarist/vocalist/frontman Matt Pike. This past February the Oakland, California trio unleashed their highly acclaimed fifth full length album "Snakes For The Devine", their first effort for E1 Music, having parted ways with longtime record label Relapse Records on good terms. Earlier this year, Matt Pike played a string of dates with his old band Sleep much to the delight of stoner/doom metal everywhere, many who may have been too young to ever witness the band live in their heyday. Metal-Rules.com caught up with Matt prior to High On Fire’s earth shaking performance at this year’s "Fun Fun Fun Fest" in Austin, Texas and he brought us up to speed on all of the latest happenings in the HOF camp…

THE WRETCHED END — the blackthrash trio featuringex-Emperor/ex-Zyklon guitarist Samoth, Mindgrinder/ex-Scum guitarist Cosmo and ex-Dark Funeral/ex-Aeon drummer Nils Fjellström — recently unleashed their debut full-length, Ominous, via Candlelight Records. In honor of its release, you can check out “The Armageddonist,” the third track off the debilitating outing, courtesy of Decibel Magazine HERE.
THE WRETCHED END formed in 2008 as a creative collaboration between Samoth and Cosmo, who previously worked together in deathpunk project Scum. In addition, Cosmo played bass with Zyklon when the band toured Europe 2001 with Morbid Angel. The two have long spoken about an extreme metal project and thus, THE WRETCHED END was born.
A new official trailer for “Lemmy”, the long-awaited documentary examining the life and career of MOTÖRHEAD frontman and rock icon Lemmy Kilmister, can be viewed below.
“Lemmy” received its U.K. premiere at the London Film Festival on October 23. In addition, “Lemmy” directors/producers Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski took part in the panel discussion “I’m With The Band” on October 24 in the Delegate Centre at BFI South Bank. Video footage of the question-and-answer session can be viewed below.
“Lemmy” will be released on DVD by Entertainment One on January 24, 2011. The film premiered in the U.S. in March 2010 during the South by Southwest at the historic Paramount Theatre in Austin.
Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski spent three years following Kilmister around the globe — from his Hollywood home to the hockey arenas of Russia.
“Lemmy” features appearances by such high-profile Kilmister friends/peers as METALLICA, Dave Grohl, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, Billy Bob Thornton and pro wrestler Triple H.
Hailed as a godfather of heavy metal, 64-year-old Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister has established himself as the living embodiment of rock and roll over the past four decades. After stints with popular Mersey beat band THE ROCKIN’ VICKERS and influential psychedelic rockers HAWKWIND, and even a brief time spent as a member of Jimi Hendrix‘s road crew, Lemmy formed MOTÖRHEAD in 1975.
Going on to record such influential metal classics as “Overkill”, “Ace of Spades” and “Bomber”, the Grammy Award-winning MOTÖRHEAD and Kilmister‘s fusion of punk and metal registered a major influence on such bands as METALLICA, GUNS N’ ROSES and NIRVANA.
2010 marks the 35th anniversary of the birth of MOTÖRHEAD, which features Kilmister, guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee.
Tuska Open Air Metal Festival, the biggest metal festival in Finland, has changed its dates for the 2011 festival. The 14th annual Tuska Festival will be held at the new location of Suvilahti, Helsinki, during July 22.-24. The reason for this change of dates is that a certain international festival will most likely be organizing their Finnish festival in Helsinki on the very same weekend Tuska had announced as their 2011 festival dates.

“The band’s tightest, most guitar-driven offering to date. An unholy smorgasbord of rigid tempo shifts, gargantuan hooks, blasting black mass anthems, and Falgoust’s soot and venom snarl” Decibel Magazine
“Their most varied record to date. Songs sear with an old-school, punk propelled urgency that comes from years of Motörhead, Venom, and Hellhammer worship.” Revolver Magazine
“Like a modern day, roid injected sword fight between Celtic Frost and Venom…a must have for anyone who has every raised a set of horns.” Outburn Magazine
“Falgoust is a master at rabid, feral poetry, penning apocalyptic manifestos rich in detail and rhythm, but doesn’t permit his voice to overtake the music.” Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

(New York, NY) — eOne Music has signed a world wide deal with NY rock band BRONX CASKET CO. “I am totally psyched to be working with eOne for the new Bronx Casket release! They did an amazing job with the Overkill record and I know they will do the same for this. Having a label home where people “get” it and are psyched to work a record is a great feeling, ” says front man DD Verni.
The band originally formed in 1998 by Overkill co-founder and bassist DD Verni. Having played in one of the most respected thrash bands ever for over 2 decades, why have another band. Two reason states DD, “the challenge of writing interesting new material and for fun of course!”
The bands second release caught the ear of playwright Andrea Lepcio. Soon after, Verni and Lepcio were collaborating with 3-time Tony Winner Hinton Battle to direct and choreograph. Soon the seeds of The “Bronx Casket Co, A New Musical” were planted. Verni quickly recruited several members from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra to perform. The cast consisted of performers from the Broadway shows Hairspray, Rent and Dance of the Vampire. There have been several performances off-Broadway for producers/backers and the show is still in the writing stages. It has a gothic/Broadway score with a twisted love story woven throughout. Songs from the first two Bronx Casket Co. releases are included in the show, as well as 13 new songs D.D. Verni penned just for the musical.
It’s been five years since BRONX CASKET CO last released an album and has been well worth the wait. Verni concludes, “This Bronx Casket record is the best we have done, and we are looking forward to getting out on the road and doing some shows.” As with every Bronx Casket Co release Verni has charted new territory, and stretched his writing boundaries.

Norrköping, Sweden doom metal goliaths GRIFTEGÅRD – vocalist Thomas Eriksson (Bokor), guitarist/lyricist Ola Blomkvist (Spetälsk, The Doomsday Cult), guitarist Per Broddesson (The Doomsday Cult, Wolverine etc.), bassist Thomas Jansson (Wolverine), and drummer Jens Gustafsson — unleashed their debut full-length, Solemn-Sacred-Severe, in the US earlier this year via Van Records. Branded “a milestone” by Sweden Rock Magazine, who gave the record a much-deserved 9/10 rating upon its Euro release late last year, Solemn-Sacred-Severe was recorded and mixed during the first half of 2009 in Milk Studios, Norrköping, and produced by the band, with co-producer engineer/studio owner Magnus Jonsson. Arguably one of the genre’s most eclectic offerings this year, the riff heavy masterwork includes appearances from various friends of the band, all of whom added to the already multi-textured epic doom hymns.
If you somehow missed witnessing the inherent crush of this record upon its release, now’s your chance to check out three tracks — “Charles Taze Russell,” “I Refuse These Ashes,” and “Noah’s hands” (complete with commentary from Blomkvist) — courtesy of Decibel Magazine HERE. http://www.myspace.com/griftegrd http://www.van-records.de
The Metal Den has obtained several unpublished photos of late great guitarist Randy Rhoads performing with OZZY OSBOURNE in Rochester, NY on April 29, 1981.
This coming December 6 is Randy’s birthday, and had he lived the ‘forever young’ pioneer of neo-classical metal would be staring down 54 years of age. One thing is for sure, Randy’s six string
wizardry will never be forgotten.
“We are super stoked for the release today,” said vocalist, Aaron Bridgewater. “I was running errands this morning and saw it in an FYE store, GEEKED! Christmas came early for us this year… A very metal Christmas indeed!”
The music video for the first single off Dynasty, “Oracle of the Dead”, will premiere in the coming weeks. A behind the scenes video blog of the “Oracle of the Dead” video shoot can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWhJqkZ6lAA.
Swedish death metal veterans DIABOLICAL have signed with Abyss Records for the worldwide release of their upcoming full-length album, Ars Vitae; due out in February of 2011.
Ars Vitae contains 17 tracks and will feature a mix of new material – recorded earlier this year at Necromorbus Studios – and previously unreleased recordings. The band has recently made one new song, “Eye,” available for download on their website (www.diabolical.se). The track can also be previewed on the band’s official YouTube channel -www.youtube.com/user/DiabolicalOfficial. “It’s an honour having a dedicated label like Abyss releasing the album over there, we are looking forward to that.” comments guitarist Carl Stjärnlöv.
Since their announcement of joining the Victory Records family, Blackguard has been touring non-stop and gearing up for their next record.
“This is going to be our most dynamic release to date. We’re going to have a few slower songs on this album; more head banging tunes. We’re also going to be introducing some new elements to our song to mix things up a bit. Not to sound too cliché but we definitely don’t want to write the same record over and over again and this record is going to be a great step forward for us.” Says vocalist Paul Ablaze.
Set for an early Spring 2011 release date, Blackguard have been, and will be on tour, keeping their name and their music familiar, ensuring not to disappoint. Currently, the band is on tour with Epica, Scar Symmetry and the Agonist. They have ecently announced their involvement in the Symphony X tour slated to kick off April 21st in Philadelphia, immediately after their return from yet-to-be-announced European dates.
“It is a dream tour. Our band has spent the better part of the last 2 years on tour to get to this point. We very much look forward to seeing old friends, making new friends and being a part of what will be the supreme springtime event. We want to thank everyone involved for giving us this opportunity and we will not disappoint.”
Dawn of Ashes music video ‘making-of’ featured on Robert Kurtzman’s Creature Corps!; On tour now with Dimmu Borgir and Enslaved
Dawn of Ashes shot their new video for Transformation Within Fictional Mutation just weeks ago with director David H. Greathouse (special effects master, film director and music video director behind Mushroomhead’s videos). The video was produced by Robert Kurtzman’s (KNB EFX founder, F/X legend, director) PRECINCT 13, who also handled the special effects. Dawn of Ashes shot on location at the Bissman Building in Mansfield, Ohio, which is widely rumored to be haunted and was recently featured on an episode of the Syfy Channel’s Ghost Hunters.
The behind the scenes footage for Transformation Within Fictional Mutation can be seen now on episode #15 of Robert Kurtzman’s Creature Corps over on creaturecorps.net! Make sure to watch the episode to see how the special effects of this over-the-top music video came together.
The Transformation Within Fictional Mutation video was recently premiered on BloodyDisgusting.com and can be seen now on MetalBlade.tv. Dawn of Ashes’ tour with Dimmu Borgir and Enslaved is underway and wraps up on December 14th in Quebec City, Canada.
“DAWN OF ASHES —a horror metal group complete with flesh-eaten faces—are 100 percent melodic death metal. And what works for this band (unlike so many of their counterparts) is that the songs here aren’t built around the strengths of any one member. Vocals aren’t over-the-top, solos aren’t soul-sucking and the drummer doesn’t go nuts on the China cymbal during breakdowns… the ability to play Chapters over and over and not get sick of it shows that this band is doing a lot right.” Decibel Magazine
“A whirlwind of eerie melodic black metal” Revolver Magazine
“Kristof Bathory will scare the crap out of you with his delivery. It’s definitely an album worth listening to though, just maybe not before bed.” Powerplay Magazine (UK)
