Very rarely does a band come along that just defies the boundaries of conventionality, but the experimental, progressive metal outfit PERIPHERY have done just that and have blazed a trail of originality that has sent a shockwave throughout the metal world. This Maryland based six-piece are one of the few who actually feature three guitar players and are led by the virtuoso Misha Mansoor, whose unique ability and style has him quickly being mentioned as one of the most gifted new players to come along in years. The group’s highly acclaimed debut, self-titled album is a work of sheer precision packaged with a propulsive blend of melody, intensity and undeniable songwriting prowess.
PERIPHERY will be embarking on a massive North American tour alongside Darkest Hour, labelmates Veil of Maya and Revocation this Nov/Dec, so be sure to either see below or head over now to www.myspace.com/periphery to view their entire tour schedule. Also, be sure to check out their new eye-popping video clip for the track “Icarus Lives!” shot by acclaimed directors Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci of Killswitch Productions.
Mansoor checks in with his thoughts on the upcoming tour and future plans: “Hey everyone, it’s been an amazing whirlwind of a year for PERIPHERY and there are no signs of slowing down anytime soon. We are currently preparing for a long tour with Darkest Hour, Veil of Maya and Revocation, which is going to be a blast and we can’t wait to get back out there to play for everyone. Also, we encourage everyone to come and meet us at our merch booth after each and every show to come and hang with us. We love hearing feedback from our fans and getting a chance to meet new people.
“We also will have a fresh new, longer setlist with a BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW SONG and a few fun surprises just for this tour. We are also giving lessons on our respective instruments (a lot of days are already booked!), so please come out early to see us and jam with us. Contact us on myspace or facebook if you are interested in lessons.
“I am also really happy to announce that PERIPHERY is well into the writing process for our upcoming EP. We have tracked most of the instrumentation and vocals and are making final tweaks on everything but you guys are in for a treat. There will be some re-tweaked material, some rare material and some brand new material on it so there will be something for everyone.
“We have also been working on material for our second full-length now, so that we can have as much time to refine it before we record the final product. Be sure to check our MySpace and Facebook pages regularly for our updates. Our goal with our music is to cover as much ground as possible while staying true to our sound, and hopefully evolve from previous work all at once. It’s a tall order but a fun challenge nonetheless, and we are doing our best to ensure that the new material will fulfill that goal.
“We want to thank all of our fans for their love and support. We would be nowhere without you and we want to be able to meet you all and thank you in person, so be sure to come out to the shows and hang out with us. We also want to thank Darkest Hour for giving us the opportunity to be on this very special tour with them and it is such an honor for us. You guys are in for a treat. See you there.”
In 2011, PERIPHERY will further expand upon the unique path they are carving out within the metal genre and deliver an offering of epic proportion.

What a kick ass year 2010 has turned out to be for rockers Jackyl! Jesse Dupree (Vocals), Jeff Worley (Guitar), Roman Glick (Bass) & Chris Worley (Drums) celebrated the release of the new Jackyl CD, ‘When Moonshine and Dynamite Collide’ by personally calling everyone that pre-ordered to thank them for their support. “We never expected just how cool that was going to be” Jackyl Lead Vocalist Jesse James Dupree quoted.
As their first single ‘She’s Not A Drug’ shot up the active rock charts, Jackyl continued to tour from coast to coast.
The shenanigans were just beginning! Dupree serves as executive producer of the truTV hit series FULL THROTTLE SALOON, which looks at the behind-the-scenes mayhem at Michael Ballard’s legendary biker watering hole in Sturgis, South Dakota. The second exciting season, which features a performance by Jackyl, launches on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 10 p.m. (ET).
Jackyl are ending 2010 with a bang by collaborating with R&R Hall of Fame legend DMC from Run DMC by releasing the single ‘Just Like A Negro’.
DMC will be performing the extremely powerful song with Jackyl on stage during their late fall and winter tour.
“Darryl is an inspiration and it’s an honor to sing and share the stage with him, especially having such a impacting message in our song, Just Like A Negro” says Dupree of DMC.
The single is available for purchase at www.jackyl.com , and comes with a limited edition Jackyl featuring DMC poster, or download at ITUNES. Check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TMO9A7uccw

Today MetalSucks.com will begin streaming Anthropocentric, the upcoming full-length from German progressive/atmospheric metal enigmas THE OCEAN, in its entirety. The stream will remain active until November 8, the day before the official North American release date.
Check out AnthropocentricHERE. Anthropocentricis the sequel to the band’s Heliocentriclong player, released earlier this year. Where Heliocentric tells the story of the rise of the heliocentric world view — the idea that the earth revolves around the sun — and the effects this discovery had on Christian belief and occidental culture, Anthropocentricchallenges the views of creationists and other modern fundamentalists who still believe that the earth is at the center of the universe and no more than 5,000 years old. “Anthropocentric continues the critique of Christianity, inspired by the questions that Dostoyevsky asked and some of the answers that Friedrich Nietzsche and Richard Dawkins gave,” notes guitarist Robin Staps.
Musically heavier than Heliocentric, Anthropocentriccovers a similar sonic and dynamic range as its predecessor by including a number of calm, acoustic moments, but these are, for the most part, orchestrated with guitars, and not so much with piano and strings. “The album is a pretty big production, and still has a very earthy, organic feel to it,” says Staps. “We’ve spent a great deal of time on the basic sound this time around — the drums, bass, guitars and vocals — and at this stage I am pretty confident that this will pay off in the end!”
Anthropocentric will be released on November 9 via Metal Blade Records.
Legendary RATT singer Stephen Pearcy has sent BraveWords.com the following exclusive update on his activities:
“I’m personally taking a break from Ratt to concentrate on my label Top Fuel Records, work on a new solo album and BATTERING RAMM, a project that I’m looking forward to as I’m just playing guitar in that, That music is way more aggressive then anything I’ve done in the past.
Also other new ventures under my new management at MMG (A FrontLine Company with Jim Morley-Bobby Collin), and just enjoy time off.
And get busy with the drag race stuff 2011.
I will say, there does need to be some major restructuring in the Ratt camp per say before I step back in, that’s a fact! If any other member is unhappy, there’s obviously personal concerns and valid reasoning.
We (Ratt) had a great end of tour show in Japan at Loud Park 10 with ROB HALFORD, HELLYEAH and others recently. Without getting into anything personally, its more the business side of things that bothers me, if that can be taken care of without animosity and procrastination, everything else should fall into place for another record and tour to support it. But just not right now, not for awhile with me until then.
The band is NOT breaking up. We made a great record with Infestation and now hearing that were on the Grammy nomination lists (for single and album) says a lot for that hard work.
I have the utmost respect for Robert Crane (bass) and Carlos Cavazo (guitar), and look forward to writing and playing out there again with them anytime.
And I don’t believe the things that are being spewed online about their respected positions in Ratt or any bands. They have every right to say what they feel, when and how they want to, I would if I spent a minute in that band. Like I am now.

We arrived on Thursday, to acquaint ourselves with the surroundings and get pitched up. The organisation of getting in (even as guests) was rather oblique and I feel sorry for any fans that had similar problems with getting in through the gates.
Apart from that, pretty smooth sailing. The food on offer was sublime; there was just about enough beer (hic!) and some good entertainment away from the music. We indulged in all of these on Thursday so that we’d have time to see the bands we wanted over the weekend. Top marks for entertainment Sonisphere, on stage and off it!
London UK based metal band Collapse formed in 2009 by guitarist Andy Ongley and vocalist Duncan Wilkinson, with current members; bassist Andre Purvis, guitarist Charlie Webster and drummer Scott Harris.
In February 2010 Collapse entered the studio to begin recording their EP in March saw the band opening up the Hammerfest festival and April saw them being asked to record their own take on Judas Priest’s classic ‘Between the Hammer & the Anvil’ for Metal Hammer magazine.
The completion of their debut EP ‘Scar the Silence’ with Rohan Onraet (Slipknot/Machine Head) signalled that Collapse were about to carve a very big name for themselves and it was on the strength of this material that the band were requested to play the second stage at the UK’s Bloodstock Open Air festival.
Drawing from the European melodic metal of acts such as The Haunted and Carcass, but infused with the crushing grooves of US bands like Lamb of God and Pantera, Collapse are proud torchbearers for the future of Heavy Metal and everything that it means to the legions of fans worldwide, we managed to meet up with the guys for a catch up…& a few beers!

Jason McMaster gets his due: a star on the South Texas Music Walk Of Fame
Heavy metal screamer Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys, Broken Teeth) is set to make Texas history, as the first metal artist honored by the ‘South Texas Music Walk Of Fame’ in his hometown of Corpus Christi.
A vocalist, bassist, guitarist, and songwriter with two gold-certified records under his belt, McMaster is notorious for being one of the busiest musicians in rock and roll. His rock and roll resume dates back to 1982, when he fronted influential progressive metal band Watchtower, later moving on to make headlines with the southern sleaze rock act Dangerous Toys. In recent years, Jason has been channeling his talent into the Austin-based hard rock act Broken Teeth, having released five albums since the band’s formation in 1999; along with two albums from his NWOHB influenced band Ignitor, and various tribute bands. His impact on the Texas rock and metal scene was previously recognized in 1998, with an induction into the Texas Music Hall Of Fame.
The South Texas Music Walk of Fame honors six new Texas artists every year, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony that kickstarts the annual WaterStreet Market Music & Arts Festival in Corpus Christi, Texas. McMaster will officially be inducted in June 2011.
Jason is currently finishing up a tour of the midwest with Broken Teeth before embarking on Shiprocked, alongside other rock acts including Vince Neil, Cinderella, Tesla, and Sevendust. Shiprocked will set sail from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on November 11-14, 2010 onboard the MSC Poesia. This year’s cruise will feature two Bahamas port stops in both Nassau and the amazing private island of Coco Cay Bay. Visit the Shiprocked website at http://www.getshiprocked.com/ for more information.
