Primordial’s AA Nemtheanga and Metal Blade’s Brian Slagel discuss classic metal albums in a 4 part series for Metal Blade TV
Recently, Brian Slagel and Primordial’s AA Nemtheanga had a chance to talk about some of their favorite classic metal albums from the Metal Blade vault. The conversation has been broken up into a four part series to focus on each of the four albums that they discussed. In part 2, the metal connoisseurs reminisce about Omen’s Warning Of Danger. Nemtheanga talks about that album’s influence on himself and Primordial while Brian Slagel talks about what it was like to work with the band back in the early 1980s.
This video series will be a fascinating and enthralling experience for metal heads new and old. Remember some of your favorite classics or discover an album that influenced hordes of modern musicians.
Part 1 of this series is available for viewing on Metal Blade TV HERE. Stay tuned to metalblade.tv for parts 3 and 4!
There is death/doom and then there is BEYOND HELL’s The Sleeper Awakens. Featuring drummer Elektrokutioner (DECREPITAPH, FATHER BEFOULED, FESTERED, etc) and with guest appearances by Patrick Bruss of CRYPTICUS (who also mixed/mastered) and Slyof FONDLECORPSE, The Sleeper Awakens crunches, lurks, and spooks like HOODED MENACE, frequently twisting into romping death metal form. Yet the deeper into the abyss one goes the more dynamics are revealed, not the least of which is accomplished soloing and sections of pure dark majesty. And all of it chills to the bone! As if that weren’t enough, the album also includes the sold out …And Evil Crept Through EP (tracks 10 – 13), for a grand total of 13 cuts of face melting horror death and spine tingling doom.
The Sleeper Awakens was co-released by Dark Descent Records and Skeleton Plague Records.
Neurot Recordings proudly unveil a brand new live album from NEUROSIS, who are undoubtedly cited as one of the most influential bands of heavy music’s experimental underworld.
The first release from NEUROSIS since 2007’s Given to the Rising, this new live album was recorded that same year in Tilburg, Holland, at the annual Roadburn Festival, where NEUROSIS headlined to a diehard audience. The album expertly captures as much of the band’s live experience as one possibly could on a physical recording, harnessing the monolithic flow and power of the band’s well-known sonically devastating live performances. The monstrous 78-minute record showcases this iconic band surging through hymns from their last few albums, including Given To The Rising, The Eye Of Every Storm, A Sun That Never Sets, and Through Silver In Blood.
Live At Roadburn will see official release on August 30, 2010, alongside the reissue of NEUROSIS’ groundbreaking 1993 release Enemy Of The Sun. The ‘Roadburn release features the iconic artwork/layout skills of visionary artist/NEUROSIS live visual master Josh Graham, also responsible for the redesigned Enemy Of The Sun layout. Both albums will be released on CD worldwide August 30th, 2010, part of this year’s celebration of the 25th anniversary of the legendary act.

I’m not sure I believe it, but if it’s true, we’re the happiest Swedes alive at this moment! What’s next, pink aliens at Wal-Mart? The third of four portions of the new artwork for the as-yet-untitled DIMMU BORGIR album has been uploaded to the band’s MySpace page.
When asked if there’s a connection between the image on the new album and the character from Death Cult Armageddon, German artist / painter / graphic designer Joachim Luetke (Arch Enemy, Kreator, Sopor Aeternus) – who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Austria – responds: “The [older] character’s called The Wanderer. Now, in retrospective, I feel that he’s always been the prophet, the herald of an age to come. Now he’s roaming the world after mankind’s demise. He’s the last of his kind. Neither human nor god – the perfect link to the age of the elder gods.”
The following update is from Dave Chavarri of the band ILL NIÑO
“Hello Ill Maniacs,

Michigan thrash institution NOCTURNAL FEAR check in with the following studio report for forthcoming album Excessive Cruelty: “We look forward to recording our next assault this winter,” according to NF mastermind Chris Slavehunter. “This new shit will be our heaviest yet. As the number-one band supporting the US Armed Forces, I promise our new album, Excessive Cruelty, will cause massive collateral damage on a genocidal scale!”

Italian Death Metalists, Humangled will be filming a video for the track “Liquidfire,” from their Abyss Records debut, Fractal. Humangled has teamed up with award-winning director / screenwriter Vincezno Ricchiuto for the shoot. Filming is scheduled to get underway this month.
Guitarist Luke Scurb has this to say about the video’s subject matter, “Liquidfire is a severe analysis of the loss of consciousness due to drug abuses. In many cases, modern society and the lack of values lead to terrible consequences.”
Fractal was released in June of this year through Abyss Records and has already caught the ear of fans and critics worldwide.
The animated comedy duo that made metalheads look like complete morons could be set for a return!
According to Reviewniverse, we might get our chance to see the duo on TV once again. A full statement reads: “REVIEWniverse has exclusively learned from an anonymous source that Mike Judge is currently outlining 30 new episodes of his iconic animated comedy Beavis and Butt-Head for its native network.
“The source conceded that plans for actual broadcast are not yet cemented, or even a given, but confirmed that the King of the Hill/Office Space/Idiocracy maestro is definitely in the midst of writing new B and B material with the hopes of a full-throttle return…Judge plans on retaining the show’s original ghetto-tech aesthetic, right down to the faded color palatte.”
German power metallers RAGE have extended their deal with Nuclear Blast Records.
“We are happy that our common history will continue,” the band said in a statement. “At Nuclear Blast we really feel at home and we look forward to all upcoming projects. After the great success of the last RAGE album ‘Strings To A Web’, we are even more motivated and we saw the same energy in Nuclear Blast as well.”
“Strings To A Web” entered the Media Control chart in the band’s home country at position No. 27. Released on February 5 via Nuclear Blast Records, the CD was recorded at Twilight Hall Studio and was produced by Charlie Bauerfeind (BLIND GUARDIAN, HAMMERFALL). The cover artwork was created by Thomas Ewerhard (AVANTASIA, THERION), and it shows the soundchaser as a spider, caught in a web.
The special two-track single, “Into The Light / Purified”, was released on January 15.
The limited-edition digibook version of “Strings To A Web” includes a high-quality DVD including 15 live clips. The main portion of the DVD consists of the “best-of” show RAGE played at the Wacken Open Air festival in 2009, including guest appearances by Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN), Schmier (DESTRUCTION) and Jen Majura (BLACK THUNDER LADIES).
“Strings To A Web” includes melodic and anthemic tracks such as “Into The Light” and “The Beggar’s Last Dime”, as well as powerful thrashers like “Purified” and “Tomorrow Never Comes”. But the heart of the record comes in the shape of the 16-minute masterpiece “Empty Hollow”, a progressive fairytale that unites everything RAGE is about.
