Guitarist/songwriter Ivar Bjørnson of the Norwegian masters of progressive/experimental metallers ENSLAVED has issued the following statement:
“It is with great enthusiasm we can announce these European dates of our ‘Circling Above and Within Tour’! Ash clouds, however metal and majestic they might be, put a stop to our planned U.K. tour back in April. We started working on scheduling new dates immediately, and now we are ready to go! ENSLAVED is a band that enjoys being on the road like nothing else; we do take pride in being a hard working and increasingly energetic and focused live band. We are also very pleased with our new album (why be modest?) due to be out in connection with this tour – and cannot wait to perform the tracks live!”
Confirmed European dates include:
10/15 Underworld – London, Great Britain
10/16 Aeronel – Paris, France
10/17 L’autre Canal – Nancy, France
10/18 Nouveau Casino – Paris, France
10/20 Kade – Zaandam, The Netherlands
10/21 W2 – Den Bosch, The Netherlands
10/22 Trix – Antwerpen, Belgium
The new ENSLAVED album will be the follow-up to 2008’s Vertebrae, which sold over 1,100 copies its first week of release according to Nielsen SoundScan and debuted on the American Billboard Hard Music chart at #11 and on the Billboard Heatseekers chart at #49. Vertebrae also won Terrorizer Magazine’s coveted “Album of the Year” award for 2008. Other “Best of 2008” rankings include:
North America’s progressive metal gods SYMPHONY X have recently entered the studio to begin recording drum tracks for the band’s Nuclear Blast debut and follow-up to 2007’s Paradise Lost, tentatively due before the end of the year. According to the band’s webmaster, “[guitarist] Michael J. Romeo said that the drums and most of the rhythm guitars are all recorded. At the moment, they are fine-tuning the lyrics and melodies, during which time Russ [Allen] will also be recording his vocals.”
SYMPHONY X guitarist Michael J. Romeo has previously gone on record to say this about the group’s new material: “We have over an hour of really good stuff that we really dig; there’s more than enough stuff there that we can choose the best songs to go on the CD… but all of the songs are really strong. One is shaping up to be 10 minutes plus. I think everyone will like it. It has a little bit of everything.”
While SYMPHONY X is busy working on their new album, fans are encouraged to submit questions for the band’s soon-to-be-updated FAQ section of their website. Send questions in to firstname.lastname@example.org with “FAQ” in the subject line.
SYMPHONY X are also asking their fans to submit names of bands they’d like to see tour with/open for them. Send your suggestions to email@example.com with “Tour Suggestion” in the subject line.
Formed in 1994 in New Jersey, SYMPHONY X has seven studio albums and one live album to their credit. Their discography has sold 170,000 copies in the U.S. alone.
Sacrifice '87 - Japan: L to R: Akira Sugiuchi (vocals), Kazuo Nonaka (guitar), Takashi Yazaki (bass), Masanori Kawakami (drums)
Still cited as influences by the younger generations (you can find Joel Grind of TOXIC HOLOCAUST having this album pictured on his MySpace!), this masterpiece of Japanese Heavy Metal by SACRIFICE will finally be available on CD for the first time in July. “Crest Of Black” was originally released in 1987 on Explosion Records, then home for bands like SABBRABELLS, DOOM and JURASSIC JADE, for a limited quantity of 1000 copies. Since then, it’s been a highly sought-after item for metalheads all over the world. Some of the music can be heard on the band’s unofficial MySpace site.
This long-awaited official reissue will also feature two bonus tracks, taken from the band’s self-released demo from 1986. Distribution outside of Japan of this SACRIFICE CD will be helped by SPIRITUAL BEAST.
The founder and singer Akira Sugiuchi is still in the singing business, fronting SOLITUDE who has released a new album “Brave the Storm” earlier this year. Check them out on their MySpace
One of metal’s most intriguing, ominous and immensely talented figures, the mighty Devin Townsend, is extremely excited to announce that for the first time in his solo career he will be embarking on a headlining tour. This will be a special evening exploring a 15 year musical journey with Townsend performing songs spanning his entire vast catalog. Supporting acts will be announced soon along with East Coast shows, but see below or visit www.myspace.com/devintownsenddtb to view the initial headlining tour itinerary.
Addicted was released in Nov. 2009 and has become his fastest selling solo record in his career. Townsend is currently working on two new albums for 2011. The new, mind-blowing offering, Addicted, was met with worldwide critical praise and scored very impressive first week numbers debuting at #168 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #2 on the Billboard Heatseakers chart.
Townsend further states: “Sitting here at the airport after months of preparation for the European festivals, getting this material ready to be heard the way it’s meant to be heard has been a pretty mean task. Last night’s epic rehearsal was one of those moments when you realize the work put into making it right results in an awesome sound. I have been given the opportunity now to bring this music to North America in my first ever solo headlining tour. It’s not a huge tour, but I really would appreciate seeing some of the familiar faces and hopefully some new ones as well. It’s cheesy to announce your touring plans as ‘the biggest or best’ of anything, but I love this music, we’ve worked really hard to get it right. If you’re one of the folks that dig it, then this should be a great, heavy and fun time that sounds the way it should.
“I’m honored to be able to play for you after all these years. There’s a ton of great tours coming up, and here is my contribution. Rock the fuck out, stay positive.”

North Carolina doom brigade, BLACK SKIES, who announced their US tour throughout July earlier this month have added three more confirmed dates to the trek. Those dates include June 12 at Jambalaya in Arcata, CA , June 19 at The Nightmare in Dallas, TX and July 21 at Checkpoint Charlie’s In new Orleans, LA. Updated tour itinerary below.
The band will hit the road with a new lineup, new songs and a high energy live display of sonic power they’ve built their name upon. Founding members Kevin Clark and Michelle Temple will be joined by ex-Des Ark drummer Tim Herzog. Former roommates, Kevin and Tim have remained in contact over the years and are very much looking forward to the opportunity to finally make music together. BLACK SKIES’ new material retains the heaviness of their earlier work, with more dynamic song structures and a psychedelic edge creating a more interesting overall sound. Following the tour, the band will begin preparations for recording what they hope to be their best release to date.
Says guitarist Kevin Clark of the upcoming trek: ” We’ve had our share of ups and downs over the past 12 months, but getting out west last year was without a doubt one of the better moments. We are thrilled to be heading out there again this summer, seeing the faces and places that made it such a blast. We played with a lot of great bands and met a lot of awesome souls with a true love and hunger for music. Those people are a big part of the drive for us to continue doing what we love to do, and we are eternally grateful for them.”
Guitarist, songwriter & producer Peter Wichers of the Godfathers of Swedish modern metal SOILWORK, answered a series of questions from fans regarding the band’s upcoming album The Panic Broadcast and all things SOILWORK!

DEATHGASM REINTRODUCES BLASPHERIAN's ALLEGIANCE TO THE WILL OF DAMNATION
In 2007 Houston’s BLASPHERIAN released an iniquitous EP of death metal dread called Allegiance to the Will of Damnation that was coveted far and wide. In recognition of the need to satisfy the thirst of new fans and BLASPHERIAN diehards alike, Deathgasm Records brings you a reissue of the EP, which includes two bonus tracks and the Summoning of the Infernal Hordes 2006 rehearsal demo. The bonus tracks include “Unholy Blood” from the sold out split 7″ with Evil Incarnate and “To Walk the Path of Unrighteousness” from a split 7″ with Houston partners in Satanic crime Adumus (nearly sold out). The rehearsal demo is of surprisingly good sound quality and just as essential for an self-respecting BLASPHERIAN demon.
The band had this to say about the reissue: “When we wrote this we were doing something that was missing in the U.S. scene. We were mixing satanic death metal with elements of doom and bestial lacerations that seem so commonplace these days.”
Deathgasm Records will also be releasing the upcoming BLASPHERIAN weapon Infernal Warriors of Death. The band is excited, to say the least, about the lethal projectile. “You can expect much more of the same, but mixed with more feeling and speed. Imagine BLASPHERIAN’s patented style melded with Incantation, Immolation and Possessed.” Wear light clothing; it’s about to get hotter than Hell.

Sorrow - “Hatred And Disgust / Forgotten Sunrise EP” (remastered)
Metal Mind Productions presents a re-release of the only studio album by the American death/doom metal band Sorrow.
Sorrow’s history is a by-the-book example of a band who had genuine talent, but just weren’t lucky enough to survive the avalanche of metal releases in the early 90’s. Today, the group’s debut album “Hatred and Disgust” (1992), along with the preceding EP “Forgotten Sunrise” (1991), are considered as true metal classics, hunted by music collectors all around the world. This exclusive double reissue brings back these classics in all of their brutal, devastating glory…
The group was originally formed in 1988, bearing the name Apparition. Back then, the five-piece (consisting of vocalist Rob Hermandez, bassist Rich Figlia, drummer Mike Hymson and guitarists Andy Marchione and Brett Clarin) played straight-forward thrash metal, much like many other bands on the New York scene. The scene itself was divided between thrash and hardcore fans. Apparition was a quite successful project, recording overall 2 demos and 1 EP – “Eternally Forgotten/Curse The Sunrise” – released by Relapse Records.
