Chaosweaver. Puppetmaster of pandemonium. Controller of disorder.

Max Power and Thab Picard

Interview by Luxi Lahtinen

These 7 Finnish modern messiahs of everything sinister and majestic, have existed since 2004. Within those 4 years they have managed to turn many people´s attention toward them by their atmospheric and ominous sounding dark metal which has been finely culminated on the band´s debut album, titled PUPPETMASTER OF PANDEMONIUM; a bombastic collection of a greater musical art that shouldn´t question the fact of how ambitious and insane the troops of Chaosweaver are.

PUPPETMASTER OF PANDEMONIUM is just the beginning for more madness to come, and the band´s bassist Max Power and keyboardist Thab Picard were keen on diving deeper into their dark and unexplored waters and telling more what kind of plans they have for a world domination…

MEGADETH – James Lomenzo

May 8th, 2008

JAMES LOMENZO

Brooklyn born James Lomenzo started his musician career in the late 70′s. His first bands included such names as Empty Sky, Clockwork and Rondinelli but it wasn’t until 1984 before he found big success after joining hard rock band White Lion. PRIDE was released in 1987 and with the help of hit singles “Wait” and “When Children Cry” it sold over two million copies in U.S alone. That band did huge tours opening for names like Aerosmith, Ozzy and AC/DC and they were on the top of their game. Ironically named BIG GAME came out two years later but although it failed to reach its predecessor sales, it still went to gold. The last White Lion album MAIN ATTRACTION was released in 1991 but its sales figures stayed proportionally low. James and drummer Greg D’Angelo left the soon to be disbanded group in 1991. James’s following years included touring with former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley and forming a brand new band called Pride and Glory together with Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Brian Tichy. Unfortunately, that band didn’t last too long and they split up after just one album which was released in 1994. James and Brian Tichy continued working together and joined Slash’s Snakepit -touring in 1995. Few years later James joined David Lee Roth’s band and recorded the album DIAMOND DAVE with him. In 2004 Zakk Wylde asked James to join his Black Label Society and James agreed. HANGOVER MUSIC VOL 4 came out soon and although James briefly split again with Zakk, he soon returned and another album MAFIA came out in 2005. Later, on the same year, James decided to leave Black Label Society for the last time and try to find some new challenges.  It wasn’t too long before it was announced that James was chosen as new bassist for legendary thrash metal band Megadeth. James played his first show with the band in March 2006 in Dubai. UNITED ABOMINATIONS was released in May of 2007 and since its release band has been more or a less constantly on tour across the world. Band started their European leg of the tour on last February from Helsinki and then we were able to sit down with James and talk about various topics including the current state of Megadeth, James’s work with some of his former bands as well as about many other interesting things…

Nation Beyond is a brand new project put together by Debase guitarist Jonas Karlgren and Facedown bass player Joakim Hedestedt. I met up with mastermind Karlgren one cold evening in the Debase rehearsing space and studio in Malmoe. Here is a long interview that I hope can make you interested in Nation Beyond. At the end of the interview the drummer Johan Helgesson came to join us and tagged along for the interview. The album was released last year in Europe and now the album will be released in the USA, Canada and Australia. Enjoy…..

ACE FREHLEY -Live at Sheffield, U.K

April 27th, 2008
by Marko Syrjala

FRONT.jpg

ACE FREHLEY

10.04.2008

The Corporation, Sheffield, UK

After leaving KISS in the aftermath of THE ELDER, the ill-conceived and, at the time at least, ill-received concept album, and doing a Euro promo tour for CREATURES OF THE NIGHT -album in 1982 Ace took his time before taking the world by storm with the brilliant first FREHLEY’S COMET record. After a second studio effort by Frehley’s Comet, Ace put out another disc under his own name, titled TROUBLE WALKIN. Many things have changed for Ace since the golden years of the ’80s. After some darker times in the early ’90s Ace finally buried the axe with his old KISS band mates long enough to participate in the enormously successful reunion tour in 1996 after which, in 1998, KISS released their new PSYCHO CIRCUS album. Unfortunately this reunion of the four original members survived only long enough to record one album but they still managed to unleash one last "farewell" tour in 2001. KISS of course is still touring every now and then, sans Ace and Peter Criss, with stand-in players now filling their shoes.

Seeing more and more death metal bands do gigs in Finland is more than welcomed. Even though the glorious years of Death metal goes back to the early 90’s, but it is still overwhelming to see some bands don’t give up any inch. Above all Massive Music and its Finnish booking agents have done an utter cult task when arranging this type of tour in Finland.

Thorium Guitarist Allan Tvedebrink

April 17th, 2008
by Anders Sandvall

THORIUM_logo.jpg

Danish old school death metal band Thorium is back with a vengeance. FERAL CREATION is their first album in six years and when I witnessed the release-party performance I knew that I simply had to have an interview with these Danes. The guitarist Allan Tvedebrink was kind enough to agree to an interview, so for all extreme metal lovers out there, here it comes, the first interview ever with Thorium in metal-rules.com

Interviewed by: Anders Sandvall

Paganfest UK 2008 – KOKO Camden, London

KOKO Camden, London

April 6, 2008

All live pics and review by HannTu

Appropriately enough, it was clear and slightly snowy the evening of Paganfest, and with a 5pm start, there was ample time for all five bands to show their quality. It was a night for singing, dancing and some rocking heavy metal! As far as I was concerned, this was a perfect night: firstly, the lights were amazing, meaning I captured some great shots and secondly, the bouncers let us stay the entire show in the photo pit. The downside is that I rarely took any notes, so the report will be slightly short on words. But big on pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. Enjoy, as I did.

IRON MAIDEN – Somewhere Back In Time: The Powerslave Interviews

IRON MAIDEN - Somewhere Back In Time: The Powerslave Interviews

Somewhere Back In Time: The Powerslave Interviews

By Gueneviere

The following are a series of interviews done with all the members of Iron Maiden just prior to the U.S. release of the watershed 5th album, Powerslave, circa Autumn of 1984. At the time, the band was also in the midst of touring Europe in support of the same album. (The tour had already taken them “Behind the Iron Curtain” into Poland, a first for a western heavy rock band at the time, and an event which also resulted in a public relations coup and a documentary later shown on MTV, etc.)
