by EvilG

Hank Pearl from THE DAILY ROCK (  interviews Jean-Francois Dagenais, guitarist for Canadian melodic death metal band KATAKLYSM, before the band performs at Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago on their “Spread The Venom” tour.

The two discuss how a band that has been around for two decades can just now break Billboard’s Heatseakers chart, the various meanings behind the new “Heaven’s Venom” album, and why a man like Dagenais, who performs with and produces many other acts, keeps coming back to KATAKLYSM no matter what.

Sacred Oath - Revolution

The Revolution begins

Sacred Oath has released a  digital 45  – “Revolution”  – exclusively through iTunes today March 15th.  The format offers a “B-side” track and so a previously unreleased track “Burn Away (Loki’s Song)” is included in the package.  This is the first commercially available release of a single from the World On Fire album.

“The world really is on fire,” says the band’s primary songwriter and lead singer Rob Thorne.  “Conceptually, we chose to do this album on ‘Dune’ because there are so many parallels with the struggles on our planet here and now, and revolution in this country seems inevitable. It was kind of freaky to see the revolutions here in Wisconsin and also in the Middle East break out just a couple months after the album was released.”

NIGHTWISH In Los Angeles – “Biggest Nightwish show production ever on North American soil and strictly a one-off”

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG
Nightwish - Imaginarium

Nightwish - Imaginarium

NIGHTWISH have announced that the very first show for the Imaginarium World Tour will take place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA, on Saturday, January 21st, 2012.

This will be the biggest Nightwish show production ever on North American soil and strictly a one-off – there will be no US tour until later in 2012. Ticket sales will begin soon.

Nightwish singer Anette Olzon recently posted the following update:

“Today me, Ewo (Pohjola, Nightwish Manager) and Tuomas (Holopainen, Nightwish leader/keyboardist) decided that its better if I rest the whole month and get in shape so I can do the vocals super good, and have booked my vocal recordings from April 4th instead, in another studio in Finland. This is really good cause no one will be happy if the album doesn’t sound perfect. And we dont have any hurry since the album has plenty of time to get mastered and ready still.

So I´ll rest and rest and hopefully soon be able to move a bit more. I have now been lying down for a week and even if I cant do anything it is of course quite boring.

Yesterday something happened that might have been good. I lied down and just turned to the right and it “popped” really loud from the ribs and I could feel the bones move. After that I feel I can breathe a bit easier so maybe the bones were “put in their places” and can start to heal now. I really do hope so!”

In a recenty interview with Tuomas Holopainen and Solar Films director Stobe Harju, the pair talk about the Imaginarium album and movie of the same name. Check out the YLE video below:

Holed up in the studio for the better part of this spring, Nightwish’s new album is scheduled to be released early in 2012, followed by the movie after an indefinite time. The first single off the album as well as the trailer for the movie should appear well before the end of the 2011.

A recent update from Nightwish reads as follows:

“After about five hundred post-it notes, two hundred written pages, hundreds of reference pictures, five hundred storyboard pictures, millions of bloody tears, mixed feelings of joy, extensive courting, happy coincidences, and more than two and a half year’s of planning, it’s time to report about the progress of the Imaginarium movie.

The pre-production of Imaginarium is already in full swing. Pretty much everything revolves around the script, which is currently being finalized. This is the phase when the dialogue is honed to perfection and dramaturges offer critical feedback of the plot.

Pre-production is also the stage when various artists, led by the director, commence work on the sets, props, costumes, and make-up. Concept art is drawn, and both the director and the director of photography discuss the cinematography and the mode of story-telling with the help of the storyboard.

Unfortunately, pre-production is also a time of rejection, when many original visions have to give way for harsh reality. This is not bad as it seems, however. The story usually crystallizes at this point, and many ideas that originally felt so great reveal themselves to be essentially superfluous. And that’s a good thing.

Pre-production usually lasts several weeks, and coordinating the shooting schedule and especially building the sets, sewing the costumes and preparing the SFX can take months. So writing this a week from now would still be topical.

Each time we’ve listened to the Imaginarium demo, it has not failed to cause satisfied laughter, emotion-filled tears, or strong shivers in us. We hope that when the time comes, you’ll share those same feelings when watching Imaginarium on the silver screen or from the comfort of your sofa.

We bid you welcome to follow these waypoints on the road to Imaginarium. Enter 2012.”

Nightwish recently posted video footage and photos from their recent orchestral sessions with Pip Williams held at Angel Studios in London, UK from February 14th-20th. Check it out the video on YouTube below:

OZZY OSBOURNE Documentary God Bless Ozzy Osbourne

OZZY OSBOURNE Documentary God Bless Ozzy Osbourne

Rick Warner from Bloomberg reports that the OZZY OSBOURNE documentary, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, will be shown at the 10th annual Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from April 20th to May 1st in New York.

God Bless Ozzy Osbourne (originally given the MUCH BETTER title ‘Wreckage Of My Past: The Story Of Ozzy Osbourne’), directed by Mike Fleiss and Mike Piscitelli, recounts the turbulent career of the heavy metal musician turned reality-show star. The 91 minute film is also the first release from his son Jack Osbourne’s Jacko Productions.

Ozzy Osbourne’s four decade track record as a culturally relevant artist is unprecedented, but his personal struggles have been shrouded in secrecy, until now. Featuring never before seen footage uncovered from the archives and interviews with PAUL McCARTNEY, TOMMY LEE and others, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne is the first documentary to take viewers inside the complex mind of rock’s great icon. Emerging from a working class family in war torn England, Osbourne and his neighborhood friends formed BLACK SABBATH and invented heavy metal. Plagued by self doubt, Osbourne the solo superstar went on a binge that lasted 40 years. God Bless Ozzy Osbourne will relive the highs of his triumphs as well as his journey to sobriety, which Ozzy regards as his greatest accomplishment.

Filming for God Bless Ozzy Osbourne began in January 2008. The documentary will reportedly include additional interviews with all the principal members of Black Sabbath, the various incarnations of Ozzy’s solo band, family and friends.

Jack Osbourne recently completed God Bless Ozzy Osbourne and talks about it with Artisan News below:

Crocell inks deal with Ultimhate Records

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG

The Danish death metal band Crocell have inked a deal with Ultimhate Records, who will release the band’s second album, “The Wretched Eidola”, on April 26 in Denmark and April 29 in the rest of the world.

During the last months Crocell have negotiated with several labels, which is why the follow-up to 2008’s “The God We Drowned” has been delayed a while. But now Crocell have agreed on a deal with the Belgian label Ultimhate Records, who recently also released the debut album by the fellow Danes in Essence.

Guitarist Smukke Ken comments: “Ultimhate Records is a fairly small and new label but after a personal meeting with the A&R boss we had a great impression and they are very eager to release “The Wretched Eidola”. They are dedicated and willing to put a lot of effort into presenting this new album to as many people as possible – and now we are just looking forward to finally releasing it as well as getting out there on stage and present the new songs live!”

A few videos of Crocell’s performance at the Musik Aarhus Festival in January can be found on the band’s Youtube channel (

BLIND GUARDIAN Update from Hansi!

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG

Another year, another message. Here, as promised a little while ago, the ultimate report about what we were dealing with the past few months and what to expect for the upcoming year.

I assume everyone reading these lines has had a chance to discover At the Edge of Timeand hopefully still enjoys it as much as we do. The very positive feedback we have gotten worldwide is of course a strong motivation for us. As said at other places before, we consider this album as the perfect connection between new and old. It contains a little bit of everything but still has a strong musical thread running throughout and offers us many options for our next projects.

It is no surprise when I tell you that the next journey will certainly lead us into an even more classical direction. There will be a few more trips to Prague necessary to finalize all orchestral recordings for our classical project but all things must come to an end eventually. The result of the stuff we have already recorded keeps me in a very good and optimistic mood, even though I consider the wait until the project’s completion very painful. Charlie [Bauerfeind] and I nonetheless will start working on the first vocal recordings during the next days. Since we will be interrupted by quite a lot of upcoming shows I would be happy if I were to find myself in a position to finish the first five songs vocalwise before the year is over. It is challenging stuff for everyone. One fine day, all of a sudden, when no one expects it, I will announce its completion. Certainly not within the next twelve months, but one very, very fine day.

From one long-term project to another. As we had time to share some serious moments with each other during the 70000 Tons of Metal cruise (somewhere on the oceans of time) Jon [Schaffer; Iced EarthSons of Liberty] and I had finally found the chance to put our minds together for a possible next Demons & Wizards album. We cheerfully simultaneously announced our wish to start working on it as quickly as possible. Although time is an issue for both of us we nonetheless decided to start songwriting together during the European summer festival season when Jon will be in Europe for Iced Earth performances. During that season we will use every possible moment to complete as much material as possible. To guarantee a good-mood-songwriting feeling I have already saved some good bottles of red wine and a smaller amount of Johnny Walker black label in our studio. Things are still in the mist but we are about to recognize structures of a busy future.

As for the people who have bought the limited edition and may have started wondering about the promised additional stuff on the connected media page I can, one more time, promise that your waiting will soon be over and all your doubts about the value of having such questionable access will be erased. We have several things we are about to accomplish during the next days. Once finished we will make an official announcement telling you when the material will be available for download.

Apart from having worked on some remixes of the new stuff we obviously were able to catch a lot of impressions from our time on the road during the last months. Touring in all these European and Northern American venues was a definite blast and we cannot wait to hit the next countries and cities fairly soon. As we recorded most of the shows we have played so far, I can tell you that there have been a number of outstanding magic moments. I mostly was impressed by the great response the new stuff has gotten. Even when we toured in the early nineties it usually took one round to establish new material. But that is not the case with any of the new ones we played. They immediately got very significant responses each night. Another approval for their quality, I dare to say. Of course, we will try to come up with more new songs for the shows we are going to play during the next months. Since we have some time to waste until then we have decided to work on even more songs to be performed for these shows. I will keep it a secret which songs we are working on… though it won ‘t be many, I have to confess. Yes, I know how to spoil a story. It ‘s one of my best qualities – apart from looking cool while sitting on a chair.

Enjoy life.

Prepare to be “Infected” by HAMMERFALL on May 20th

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG

In May, 20th, HAMMERFALL is going to release their new album called Infected.  Laying down the foundation themselves in their own studio in Sweden, the band then traveled to Nashville, TN, to finish it up with acclaimed producer James Michael (MÖTLEY CRÜE, SCORPIONS, MEAT LOAF). He also mixed the album, giving it a decisive updated edge without losing anything of the essence of the band. “James helped us create something that was new and exciting while still in the line of our heritage”, Oscar Dronjak, guitar player and founder of the band, explains.

“Never before have we sounded this fresh and up to date without losing the essence of what HammerFall is all about: Pure “Infected” Heavy Metal!”, comments vocalist and frontman Joacim Cans.

You will experience us like you’ve never done before! We’ve got a lot of fresh influences shining through in the music, but everything you love about HammerFall will still be there“, says Oscar. “This is HammerFall in 2011, the legend has been reborn!”.

On March 12th, the album was introduced for the first time to an international group of press people in Göteborg, where the album received a great response. Metal Hammer Spain calls it “the HammerFall of the future“, while British Powerplay Magazine comments: “Infected will have the name HammerFall spreading like a virus. Prepare for an epidemic!”.

Kings of Black Metal location changed from Giessen to Alsfeld

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG

The Kings of Black Metal Festival location is changed from Giessen to nearby Alsfeld.
Beside the decreasing number of available tickets for the festival, following reasons led us to this decision:

– optimal transport connection (the railway station is just a few minutes away from the venue)
– free parking space in front of the hall
– more space inside of the hall for a more relaxed atmosphere
– better sound- and view conditions

All in all we consider these advantages decisive to displace the festival from Giessen to the town hall of nearby Alsfeld. We are sure that we are able to offer both the fans and the bands a higher quality festival there.
