3 New releases from MTM Music in February

MAIN ATTRACTION – “Keep On Coming Back” (MTM MUSIC, Release: 17.02.2006)

BENNECH LYNGBOE made an early mark as a singer/songwriter. It all started in 1987. After a few years of honing his talents as a singer, guitarist and songwriter, he tried out ideas with local rock bands, both as a live and a recording artist. In 1995, he released his self-financed single “Leaves Of Fall”. The entire first edition of 1000 copies sold out in Bergen music stores, and the single enjoyed 3 weeks on the Hordaland Top Ten. Since then, Bennech has been busy with his own and other’s studio work. In 2001 Bennech Lyngboe and Terje Eide formed ON THE RISE and started working on some demos which soon raised the interest of Frontiers Records who signed the band in June 2002. Bennech left ON THE RISE fall 2003 to continue his own project, he has since been writing new material and recorded some new song with Zolt Mezaros/drums, Jan Martin Kleveland/bass and Ronny Heimdal/Guitars and keyboards. He formed the project MAIN ATTRACTION spring 2005

SABU – “Heartbreak” (MTM MUSIC, Release: early 2006)

SABU and ONLY CHILD were two of the late 80’s and 90’s musical vehicles for Paul, who was dubbed “L.A. session king and AOR hero”. SABU was the darling of several melodic rock magazines which described his albums as big sounding, with lots of depth, fat keyboards, blistering guitars and vocals combined with a great chorus. SABU’s much sought-after albums still hold his reputation true as Album-Oriented Rock King. “Heartbreak” (1985) is one of those rare albums which is now re-released with 3 bonus tracks. In the November 14, 2005 Kerrang Poll … Paul Sabu holds 2 of the greatest AOR Albums of all time. Paul Sabu has produced, mixed, written songs and performed with such artists as Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Little Caesar, Lee Aaron, Shania Twain, Motels, Only Child, SABU, John Waite, Robbie Neville, Malice, Wasp, Little America, The Nelsons, Tattoo Rodeo, Silent Rage, Elvira, Teri Tims and Madonna. His film and TV credits include “Accused”, “Ghoulies II”, “Trick or Treat”, “Ghost Town”, “To Die For”, “Twin Sitters”, “Hard Rock Zombies”, “American Drive-In”, “Million Dollar Mystery”, “Vice Versa”, The Heights, all rock songs for “WKRP in Cincinnati”, “Sex and the City”, “Beverly Hills, 90210”, “Baywatch”, “Diving In”, Meatballs 4”, “Assault of the Killer Bimbos”, and the list goes on.

SORA – “Demented Honour” (MTM MUSIC, Release: 24.02.2006)

Throughout his musical career, SORA has participated in countless studio sessions and has worked with numerous great musicians, including former members of QUIET RIOT and SURVIVOR. Most recently, Erol has been playing guitar with former URIAH HEEP / LUCIFER’S FRIEND singer John Lawton. To this date he has recorded 4 CD’s and 2 DVDs with Mr. Lawton. “Demented Honour” was recorded in Vancouver where Erol enlisted an array of the city’s top musicians, consisting of drummer Lance Chalmers (ex-TROOPER), bassist Kevin Dahl, and keyboardists Gregory Macdonald (Big John Bates, ex-PEPPERSANDS) and Louise Porter (THE RUMOURS). “Demented Honour” is a “classic album of in your face hard rock, with occasional blues, pop, and AOR elements”.

BON JOVI SONG COULD PROMOTE NEW JERSEY TOURISM

Bon Jovi might lend its latest single to a new TV commercial that promotes New Jersey tourism — but not without getting some cash. According to the New York Daily News, singer Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora said their home state could use the track, “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” but the song’s publisher wants $175,000 for the rights. An insider told the paper, “That’s not a lot of money. Coke pays millions to use a song in a commercial. People should get paid for what they write. Jon and Richie are good Jersey boys. They’ve done so much charitable work for the state.”

The state Commerce, Economic Growth and Tourism Commission is trying to get the commercial’s cost added to its $19.6 million budget.

“Who Says You Can’t Go Home” appears on Bon Jovi’s latest album, Have A Nice Day.

Bon Jovi will kick off the second leg of its North American trek on January 14th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After wrapping up in March, Bon Jovi will take a break before going out on a European tour this spring. Nickelback will join the band on the road overseas.

Macca rumoured to be working on new BEATLES “Heavy” CD

Will there be new Beatles music in 2006? Some Internet chatter says Paul McCartney is supervising a new compilation called The Beatles: HEAVY, featuring latter-day harder-edged songs, such as “I Want You (She’s So Heavy),” “I’ve Got A Feeling,” and “Birthday,” that the band included on their later albums, The White Album, Let It Be, and Abbey Road.

It’s also being said that the disc will include at least one previously unreleased Beatles song. Although no titles were given, many are assuming that the tune in question is the infamous 27-minute version of “Helter Skelter” that has been languishing in the vaults since 1968, and is considered by many to be the “holy grail” of Beatles outtakes.

Another White Album-era recording, called “Sour Milk Sea,” written by George Harrison, is also rumored to be a contender for the still unannounced album. It features McCartney, Harrison, Ringo Starr, keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, and Eric Clapton, and was recorded and released by Apple artist Jackie Lomax. It’s rumored that if a version with Harrison on lead vocals were located, it could appear on the new album.

A spokesperson for the Beatles’record company, Apple, told us that he was unaware of any release plans for this year.

Industry insiders told us that the rumored album may include special 5.1 stereo mixes done in 1998 under the supervision of the Beatles’chief engineer Geoff Emerick.

In 1976, as a follow-up to the group’s hit double compilations The Beatles 1962/1966 and The Beatles 1967/1970, the group’s label Capitol/EMI released a double-record collection called Rock ‘N’Roll Music, showcasing the group’s heavier side. The compilation included “Got To Get You Into My Life” from the group’s 1966 Revolver album, which was never released as a single in the ’60s, but hit Number Seven in the Spring of 1976. The release was kept out of the Number One slot by Paul McCartney amp; Wings’Wings At The Speed Of Sound album.

The Beatles’last official release — and the last approved by the late George Harrison — was 2003′s Let It Be … Naked. That album, which features stripped down remixes of key tracks from the group’s January 1969 sessions, peaked at Number Five on the charts

Peter Frampton Album details

“The guest list for Peter Frampton’s next album just keeps growing. He’s now added former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman to the lineup, which also includes Stones drummer Charlie Watts and Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready and drummer Matt Cameron, among others. There was also talk last year about Stones guitarist Ron Wood joining in, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Frampton and Wyman are old friends, and they’ve worked together in recent years on albums and shows by Wyman’s band the Rhythm Kings. Along with the high-profile guests, the album also includes Frampton’s band.

The Frampton album is an instrumental project, which he’s wanted to do for some time. He hopes to finish it by the spring, with a release coming by the end of the year.

Frampton kicks off his 2006 touring with a show at Harrah’s Rincon in San Diego on April 6th.”

Guitar Great Eric Gales to release “Crystal Vision” on January 24th

2006 brings a new state of mind for guitar great, Eric Gales with his new release Crystal Vision on Blues Bureau Records. “Crystal Vision” takes the next logical step in Gales career, further establishing him as one of the rare musical talents of his generation. This left-handed guitarist of extraordinary ability and expressive vocals is a natural for people to compare to Hendrix. Gales has developed a unique hybrid blues/rock sound that also draws upon influences as diverse as Albert King and Eric Johnson. A unique amalgam of styles, Eric Gales stands head and shoulders among other guitarists in his genre.

Eric Gales grew up in a musical family with four brothers, two of them who learned to play the guitar upside down and left handed in the same fashion that Eric does. Eric’s brother Eugene Gales played bass in the Eric Gales Band and his brother Jimmy King had a thriving career as a blues artist before his untimely death. Eric released his first record at Age 16 for Elektra records to an amazing response from the media and music fans around the globe. Guitar World Magazine’s Reader’s Poll named Eric as “Best New Talent,” in 1991. After recording a second record for Elektra, all three brothers teamed up for “The Gales Bros. Left Hand Brand” which was recorded for the House of Blues label in 1996. Through the years, it would not be unusual to look out in the audience and see artists like Carlos Santana, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, B. B. King, and Eric Clapton, looking on with interest as Eric took his God- given talent and worked crowd after crowd into a frenzy.

The new Millennium presented new opportunities for Eric and he was signed to a deal with Nightbird Records which was affiliated with Jimi Hendrix’s sister Janie Hendrix and Experience Hendrix, L. L. C. and distributed through MCA/Universal. Under this deal, Eric recorded the critically acclaimed record “That’s What I Am” in 1991 and hit the road, mesmerizing fans around the world with his uncanny connection to his guitar. In 2004 Eric Gales made headline music news when he was chosen to perform with Carlos Santana, Joe Satriani, Jerry Cantrell and others on the Experience Hendrix tour to honor the late, great, Jimi Hendrix.

Eric’s masterful guitar and vocal performances on “Crystal Vision” portend a great response from these loyal music lovers as guitarists of this quality and intensity are few and far between.

Markus Grosskopf of Helloween

Interview with Helloween Bassist Markus Grosskopf

Interview and pictures by Luxi Lahtinen

Helloween started their KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS ? THE LEGACY World tour in Zlin, Czech Republic. As always, the band?s tour  is extensive, covering many countries in Europe, both South and North America and Japan. After many months of writing songs, recording and promoting the album the Pumpkin team felt a strong need to hit the road again. Maybe that was one of those tiny reasons why Finland was blessed by as many as 3 dates on this particular Helloween tour that the Finnish Helloween fans found a very pleasing surprise for them.

When Helloween arrived in Helsinki on the 26th of November 2005, we caught up with the band?s nearly 2-meter high bassist Markus Grosskopf for an interview. It was just 1 hour before one of the night?s two warm-up bands entered onstage to make the crowd ready for the band a majority of them had obviously come to see, the one and only Helloween.

We found our way to the Helloween?s backstage, and it was almost immediately sensed from the overall atmosphere that both the crew and the band were in as high spirits as we were. We were quite surprisingly, greeted by a few free, ice-cold beers by the band members. Now that was a good sign to assume Markus might have been willing enough to push through this last interview of today, so we all sat down confortably, and the recorder started rolling…

The Swedish doom-pioneers in Candlemass have recently released a new DVD and earlier this year came their long-awaited selftitled studio album. When the band arrived in Malmö, for the first time since 1990, on their tour together with Destruction and Deathchain I was obliged to take the opportunity to have a very short talk with the mastermind and band leader Leif Edling.
