Floor Jansen of ReVamp

REVAMP, featuring ex-AFTER FOREVER singer Floor Jansen, have issued the following tour report:

“Ninth show: Tuesday, October 5th – Itay

It was nice to have had a day off! At the end of that day I wished we could have another. It was so relaxing and nice. But when we came to the venue that feeling was all gone! But the weather was cloudy and a bit cold. That wasn’t what we expected, we’re in Italy… it should be sunny.

Well, half hour later the clouds moved and it was so great to be out in the sun! I had a nice breakfast and tried to upload video report number 2. The internet connection wasn’t fast enough so I had to do this in Switzerland. We had a relaxed schedule that day. We played late so there was enough time to eat and get ready before the show.

During the afternoon many people already came to the venue to meet us. It was heartwarming to be welcomed so nicely! The Italian audience was so happy to see the ex-After Forever singer back.

When the show started everybody went crazy immediately. Yeah! After the first song or maybe second they started chanting: “Floor”. I thanked the audience from the bottom of my heart but also introduced ReVamp.

A few songs later they chanted: ”ReVamp! ReVamp”!!! How amazing that felt! Also after the show I met a lot of fans and everybody seemed so happy to see me again and to like ReVamp a lot. I got a second chance with this new band and it’s so great to see how good it’s being pickup up!”

Update: Official Statement Regarding Death Of GOTTHARD Singer Released

October 7th, 2010
by EvilG

The world has lost one of it’s greatest rock singers: GOTTHARD frontman Steve Lee was killed in an accident during a motorcycle trip in the USA on Interstate 15 between Mesquite and Las Vegas and died at the scene.

The Gotthard singer had flown to the US with some biker friends last weekend to fulfill a long-cherished dream for which he’d never had the time, due to his heavy touring schedule for many years. It was to be two weeks through the states on a Harley Davidson. The 21 Swiss bikers started their journey on Sunday on a total of 12 motorcycles. On Tuesday, October 5th, about 50 miles from Las Vegas, the group had stopped at the roadside to put on their rain gear as it had started to rain. On the slippery road, the trailer of a passing truck began to skid. The driver attempted evasive action but his trailer clipped five of the motorcycles parked at the roadside; one of them hit Steve Lee. Rescue services attempted resuscitation but efforts were stopped after 20 minutes. At 4:13 PM local time, Steve Lee was pronounced dead.

Among the passengers were Gotthard bassist Marc Lynn and Lee’s girlfriend Brigitte Voss Balzarini. All other fellow riders were unharmed. Steve Lee was 48 years old.

With Steve Lee, we not only lose one of the world’s best rock voices but also an extraordinary personality. Despite his enormous successes, the singer had retained a very subtle eye for detail and often impressed the people around him with his sensitive observation. Due to his personality, he had a serious outlook, without losing his sense of humour and lust for life. Steve Lee met his environment with respect but always had, in his gentle way, a very simple, personal touch. He understood like no one else how to enjoy without going too far – to him, alcohol and parties were things he met with level-headedness. The singer sold several million albums throughout his career with Gotthard, several of them reaching platinum, double or triple platinum status.

As well as the legions of devastated fans, Steve Lee will be greatly missed by all who knew him for his personal greatness outside of his band’s achievements.

As previously reported, an In Memoriam video can be found at this location.

Currently in their late teens, guitarist, Konrad Kuplec, drummer, Jim Nicademus and vocalist/bassist, Jon Macak have played with some of the world’s biggest metal acts. They have also have earned a reputation as an absolutely raucous live act. As Konrad Kuplec puts it, “The BEST praise we can get is having a kid seeing us at one of our shows for the first time and then coming over to our merch table and buying a shirt or cd. It’s the most humbling and coolest feeling in the world. I’ll always be grateful for the support our fans give us.”

October 7th, 2010
by EvilG

Los Angeles, CA’s ABYSMAL DAWN recently wrapped up the recording and mixing process to their new album and follow up to 2008’s Programmed to Consume.

“We’ve been working on and off in the studio on this album since May and now we’re finally done,” commented ABYSMAL DAWN guitarist/vocalist Charles Elliott. “After a series of set backs, illness, and going through a world of shit in our personal lives, we had no choice but to make this record our revenge and the defining moment for ABYSMAL DAWN. We’ve had the finished mixes for about a week now and everyone that has heard it has been just blown away. We can already tell that this will be the record that the band will become known for. It’s a very varied, extreme, technical, and melodic record and I can promise you that no one will be disappointed.”

The yet-untitled album’s drum parts were recorded at Trench Studios in Corona, CA with John Haddad (PHOBIA, INTRONAUT, HIRAX). The majority of the sessions were produced and recorded by Mike Bear (ARTISAN, ex-PROTOTYPE), at Artisan Road Studios in Encino, CA and the CD was mixed and mastered by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, GOATWHORE, HATE ETERNAL) at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL. An early 2011 release date is expected with additional recording / album details to be made available shortly.

OSLO, Norway – Mortiis returns to satiate fans’ desire for new music this October 10 with “Perfectly Defect,” a completely free, full-length, downloadable album.

“Putting ‘Perfectly Defect’ out as a free download was a decision we made after some consideration,” said the band’s namesake Mortiis. “The new model of the music business is important to keep in mind; there´s a new mentality out there in terms of how people acquire their music now. For better or worse, music seems to have become a medium a lot of people aren´t prepared to pay for in the old fashioned way. So, we paid to record it out of our own pockets ‘cos we thought it would be a really cool gift to our fans that have been waiting around for ages for something new to come out.”

Mortiis has spent much of the past couple years writing and recording “The Great Deceiver,” the long-awaited follow-up to 2004’s full-length “The Grudge” and the 2007 remix album, “Some Kind of Heroin.” “Perfectly Defect” is the quintessential prelude to the world of “The Great Deceiver” – while the latter is heavier and darker, the former is varied, experimental, and largely instrumental. The bottom line is that “Perfectly Defect” leads into “The Great Deceiver” acting as a crucial stage in the evolution of Mortiis’ music.

“When we were writing and working on ‘The Great Deceiver’, we were coming up with all sorts of inspired stuff, a really varied collection of music,” Mortiis offered. “Some of it was far too varied and experimental to be included in such an angry, dark album as ‘The Great Deceiver’ so we created a brand new album that is the introductory element to the more intricate world of ‘The Great Deceiver.’”

“I think we really captured a cool vibe here,” Mortiis enthused. “It’s not easy marrying anger with melody, but I believe we did it. The songs on ‘Perfectly Defect’ were created across a period of time, and I believe it shows in terms of what inspired these songs. They’re rather soundtrack-y in a dark and sometimes bombastic way.”

With the concept of digital distribution came a new empowerment for Mortiis – one where the artist controls his own artistic destiny.

“After our record deal finally expired, I had developed a profound aversion to the very idea of letting other people control my art, my lifework,” he said. “So, again, the idea of the new technology really did grow on me. We dealt with some really evil stuff in the industry. Nothing shocking in terms of industry practice, but at a human level, it was a living nightmare. It reached a point where we fired everyone around us except for the handful of people we knew we could trust. It was a big move, but had to be done in order to survive. It was like rewinding the clock back to the start and beginning with a clean slate. We started working on a ton of new music right then. With the advent of modern technology, we realized we could do a lot of stuff without the often self-serving, meddling record labels. No record label would ever have let us put out an album for free, with the option to donate if the fans wanted to.”

The album will be available at beginning on October 10. There is no cost for the download, but donations to cover the cost of recording may be made through the website.

TRIPTYKON TO KICK OFF DEBUT NORTH AMERICAN TOUR; “Weltenbrand Tour 2010” coming to a city near you this month

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – Swiss extreme metal act, Triptykon, will kick off their first ever North American tour, the “Weltenbrand Tour 2010”, tonight in New York City. Norway’s technical black metal band,1349, and Chicago’s veteran progressive metal act, Yakuza, will round out the package on the highly anticipated North American live debut of the 2008 project created by Tom Gabriel Warrior (Celtic Frost, Hellhammer). The month-long voyage is sure to be this fall’s heaviest tour.

Tom Gabriel Warrior (vocals, guitars) describes his emotions of anticipation on this new undertaking:

“Ever since my earliest days in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, I have been extremely fortunate to be able to count on the support, fanaticism, and immense loyalty of the North American metal scene. The recognition my work has received there eclipses anything I have ever encountered in my own native country. Of the 125 concerts performed on the final Celtic Frost tour in 2006 and 2007, for example, a full 71 were played in North America. Some of these performances rank among the most memorable ones in my entire career.”

“It is thus an immense honor for me to now bring my new group Triptykon to North America for the first time. Triptykon is further pursuing the path I once began with Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, and I am looking forward to continuing to forge this darkest of musical alliances with all of you. We shall all celebrate masses of unleashed heaviness and morbidity. Only death is real!”

Triptykon will also release a brand new EP, ‘Shatter’, while on American soil later this month. The five-song EP is set to hit stores on October 25th, courtesy of Century Media Records (under license from Prowling Death Records Ltd.), and follows the band’s highly acclaimed debut album, Eparistera Daimones, which released in March. ‘Shatter’ will be available as a CD, digital download, and 12″ vinyl. The EP will further contain the lyrics to all songs as well as detailed liner notes and credits.

The EP’s track listing is…

01. Shatter

02. I Am The Twilight

03. Crucifixus

04. Circle Of The Tyrants (live)

05. Dethroned Emperor (live) – Featuring guest lead vocals by Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone/Sarke

EXUMER posts new video clip from K.I.T. festival

October 7th, 2010
by EvilG

German thrashers EXUMER have posted one out of two video clips taken from the “Keep it True Festival 12”, DVD compilation, which was filmed in spring 2009. The band’s performance on the festival was recorded during their “5 Nights of Fire  Tour”, and featured former singer/guitarist Paul Arakaki alongside main frontman Mem V. Stein. The DVD also includes a bonus interview with both singers recorded at the same show.

Vocalist Mem V. Stein comments: “We posted the song “Fallen Saint”, and decided to showcase Paul. We wanted to give the fans who were not able to attend any of our last year’s shows a chance to see how we looked/sounded like with two singers. We have been missing our friend during our current tour and missed him on the first leg of the “European Ignition Tour 2010″, earlier in the spring.
However, we are currently rehearsing and writing the new EXUMER material from the up-coming album, to be released next year, between dates in order to sound as organic as possible. This was one of our greatest challenges with last year’s line-up, where 3 of us were located in the U.S. and two in Germany. It is a little easier now with me and our bassist residing in NYC and the rest of the band living in Germany. It makes it possible to get together and operate as a band, rather than a bunch guys in front of computers swapping files. The new album should satisfy most our old fans and we hope to gain some new ones alog the way”

On June 12th, 2008, multi-platinum rock band Metallica staged an intimate, surprise performance at The Basement, an 150-capacity venue below Nashville record store Grimey’s New & Preloved Music. In attendance were ecstatic Metallica fan club members from all over the world, Grimey’s staffers, and a few lucky friends.

Now the explosive energy of that hot and sweaty, bursting to the rafters show, which took place the night before Metallica played the Bonnaroo Festival, has been captured on the recording Live at Grimey’s, which will be released by Warner Bros. Records on the day after Thanksgiving, November 26th. “To have a band of the magnitude of Metallica actually come into a record store, set up and record a live performance, and then provide it to record stores so that they can have it on the shelves for the holidays is fantastic,” says Metal Club head honcho, Michael Kurtz. “Music is something special and not just a disposable commodity. Being able to provide metal fans and record stores with something this special is exceptionally gratifying. This is going to be the gift that every metal fan is going to want this holiday season.”

Live at Grimey’s, which includes such highlights as “Welcome Home (Sanitarium),” a blistering “Master of Puppets,” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” will be released on standard CD plus as a limited-edition two-disc set on regular-weight 10″ vinyl with a gatefold jacket. HOUSECORE RECORDS act ARSON ANTHEM and MySpace Music are currently streaming the band’s entire upcoming October 12th release, Insecurity Notoriety, right now! Head over to the MySpace Music main page to be directed to the stream:

ARSON ANTHEM is comprised of metal greats Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual), Hank Williams III (Superjoint Ritual, Assjack), Mike IX Williams (Outlaw Order, Eyehategod), and Collin Yeo (Ponykiller). The band was brought together in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, with Mike Williams moving into Anselmo’s spare apartment after his home and possessions were destroyed. Through this connection, Williams and Anselmo spent time listening to Anselmo’s irreplaceable hardcore music collection. The members relived the days of early 80’s hardcore bands, such as Discharge, Negative Approach, Sheer Terror, and many others. It didn’t take long for the music to squash their cabin fever, and inspire them to create a new venture that is now ARSON ANTHEM. Anselmo knew of the underrated, yet unbridled percussion skills that he and William’s mutual friend Hank Williams III possessed, causing the contact to be made and the band to come together. Finally, bassist Collin Yeo was recruited, and the sound was born. “All we had to do was meet and jam,” states Anselmo. “Fucking perfect, fucking real, fuck all.”

DAKRYA: New Full Length To Be Released By Sensory Records

October 6th, 2010
by EvilG

When seven Greek charlatans get together, the musical visions that spring from their minds can only be described as a true freakshow.   Back in late 2004 the idea of a band that could develop a theatrical attitude and combine different musical elements with the dynamics of metal and rock sound, brought DAKRYA to life. Following the usual demos and local live shows, the band released its debut album Monumento in the spring of 2008. Receiving great reviews and good support from both the media and the fans in and around Greece, DAKRYA started touring on a broader scale, supporting international bands such as Moonspell and more.

In 2009 the band began to work on new material; the main goal was to put even more emphasis on the “theatrical” style of DAKRYA, and in January 2010 the band entered the studio with engineer George Bokos (Rotting Christ), to record their sophomore album Crime Scene. Come March 2010 the band found themselves sitting in a studio in Sweden mixing the album together with Pelle Saether (Diablo Swing Orchestra, Draconian, Madder Mortem), followed by a trip to another Swedish sound-guru, Göran Finnberg (Opeth, In Flames, Arch Enemy) for the mastering of the disc.   From beginning to end, Crime Scene is a one-of-a-kind musical experience. Ranging from the psychotic and cinematic melodrama heard in bands like Diablo Swing Orchestra and Unexpect to the orchestrated gothic metal comparable to Therion and Theatre of Tragedy, DAKRYA paints their mark all over the canvas.   Check out the promotional video for the album, cover art and more HERE.

Crime Scene track listing:

1. The Charlatans
2. Blind Man’s Bluff
3. Scaremongering
4. The Urban Tribe
5. Camouflage
6. Phantasmagoria
