Managing to combine the sounds of ‘80s era first-wave thrash and ‘90s era power metal, Albany, New York’s Addicted to Pain will appeal to a wide variety of heavy metal connoisseurs. Comprised of Leo Curley (vocals, guitar), Bob Horvath (bass), and Gregory Nash (drums), it all started when Bob and Leo met in a band called Eyesore (which included a pre-Shadows Fall Jason Bittner in its ranks), before finding the missing piece to the puzzle with Gregory. But come 2010, the trio has unleashed their first-ever release – a self-titled four-song EP – which is available for purchase via iTunes, as well the group’s official site and myspace page.
And to get that extra added crunch to their sound, the boys enlisted the aid of a gentleman that was there at the dawn of the thrash metal movement, Alex Perialas. “Most amazing/draining recording experience ever,” recalls Curley. “We worked with Alex Perialas (Anthrax, S.O.D., Testament, Pro-Pain, etc.). He really pulled it out of us. It was like working in a piece of metal history – living in the band house and studio where all that happened was humbling. We had a lot to live up to.”
And it turns out that the Perialas/Addicted to Pain union has certainly reaped metallic dividends, as evidenced from all four of the EP’s tracks. But the group has specific favorites in mind. Curley – “For me it’s ‘Trust Me.’ This song was a skeleton when we brought it to Alex. He really had a lot to do with the formation of this sweet little ditty. Many vocal rewrites. All the hard work gives me a real sense of pride on this one.” Nash – “‘Here and Now,’ ‘cause it’s in 7.” Horvath – “‘Trust Me’ is brutal and ‘Abigail’ for its sound and its lyrical content.”
Addicted to Pain is also gearing up to tour the US in the fall. It won’t be long until headbangers coast to coast will get to experience this fearsome threesome head-on. Or as Curley explains the group’s live show, “Blood, sweat, and tears all over the stage!”
Ottawa technical Death Grind band Killitorous(featuring Eric Morotti from Blind Witness on drums) has released a new music for a song off their upcoming EP called: “Carving a Totem pole a top blood mountain whilst enslaving the local mountain-folk population as cattle…”
The debut EP entitled “PRETEND TO MAKE BABIES” is currently beinyg mixed and mastered with Chris Donaldson(CRYTOPSY, THE AGONIST, NEURAXIS…) and should be expected July 5th everywhere….
American progressive metallers DARK EMPIRE have announced the addition of Swedish vocalist Urban Breed (PYRAMAZE, BLOODBOUND, TAD MOROSE) to the group’s ranks. Urban replaces Jens Carlsson (PERSUADER, SAVAGE CIRCUS), who split from the band on good terms in 2008.
Commented DARK EMPIRE bandleader/guitarist Matt Moliti: “I cannot express how thrilled I am to be collaborating with Urban. His vocals have the perfect blend of power and dynamics that I think will truly take DARK EMPIRE’s music to the next level. I’m excited as hell for people to hear the material!”
Demo samples from DARK EMPIRE’s forthcoming third album, “From Refuge To Ruin”, will be posted to the band’s MySpace page in the coming weeks.
Regarding the sound of DARK EMPIRE’s new songs, Matt said, “The new material has the sound that was established on [2008's] ‘Humanity Dethroned’, but we’ve added some new elements, such as seven-string guitars, mellotrons, and a good deal of old-school doom metal and ’70s prog-rock influence. I really think these were the missing puzzle pieces and what we’re going to present on ‘From Refuge To Ruin’ is the ultimate culmination of what I started back in 2004. We’re looking at nine songs, with two that are near or over the 10-minute mark. We’ll also be doing two covers for bonus tracks. More details on all of that to come.”
He added, “We will start recording in the fall with producer Jeremy Krull. We’re also in talks with drummers, and we should be able to make a final announcement on who will be performing on the album soon. The plans are for a spring 2011 release.”
DARK EMPIRE released its sophomore effort, “Humanity Dethroned”, in 2008 on Killzone Records.

All recordings and mixing are now complete for the forthcoming solo album from one of metal leading keyboard maestros – Mistheria. The keyboard wizard has checked in with the following guest updates.
Mark Boals (Royal Hunt, Ring of Fire, Y. Malmsteen) has completed his recordings on the song “Eye of the Storm – Metal Opera 82″. Of course, the song sounds nothing short of awesome! With a mix between elegant melody and metal power, Mark’s vocals made the song totally captivating! After long years trying to make real our collaboration, I’m really proud to feature Mark, one of the greatest metal singers, on my new album!
Mark comments, “This song brought back fond memories of the roots of Neo-Classic Metal. I had a blast recording it, and working with Mistheria!”
Rob Rock has posted the following statement on his involvement in the album.
“Recording for Mistheria was a pleasure for me. Lies and Deception is a great song we wrote together and the song is just full of monster musicians exploding all over the place. A very interesting song to be a part of. The song is also very energizing and my vocal performance is high octane, somewhat like my Wicked Maiden (Impellitteri) and Slayer of Souls (Rob Rock) vibe in a way. A very “live” vocal take, with lots of “on the spot” ad-libbing, which added a very emotional and natural performance attitude to the song. I really like it!” – RR
Italian Bass player Alberto Rigoni (Twinspirits / solo) completes the “Dragon Fire” album line-up. Thanks to a great mixture of perfect performance and powerful rich sound, Alberto did an excellent job recording whole album with his fantastic 6-strings Elrick Bass.
The album’s personel in full is: Vocals – John West, Mark Boals, Rob Rock, Titta Tani, Lance King.
Guitars – George Bellas, Roger Staffelbach, Emir Hot, Neil Zaza

Silence doesn’t mean inactivity: Titta Tani is the new singer of Italian progressive metallers Ashent.
The band report: After a short but intense period of transition, the new Ashent line-up is finally completed. Titta Tani (Claudio Simonetti – Daemonia, Goblin, ex DGM and ex Necrophagia) officially joins the band, replacing the bands dear friend Steve Braun. After 5 years spent together, we friendly decided to follow different musical adventures, hoping to continue to improve ourselves as men, musicians and song-writers, with honesty and genuine passion. We wish Steve all the best, in order to reach new goals with his new band. Now, we are fully focused on the next gigs and we’re continuing the composition of our 3rd album that, with reasonable certainty, will be recorded during the next fall-winter period.
Steve’s statement: “Today is a very bittersweet day for me. My Ashent family and I have regretfully decided to part ways. Due to the economic problems in the world it was getting increasing harder to get over to Italy. After quite a few discussions we decided that the only way for Ashent to move forward is for them to look for a new singer. My wife Tara and I love our Ashent family and are sad that this period has to come to an end but we love Ashent too much to let it suffer because I couldn’t be a part as much as was needed. With this being said I couldn’t be happier that Titta has joined the Ashent family. He is an awesome singer as well as a great guy. We met last May when we did a few shows together and instantly I considered him a true friend. Thank you all for the memories and most of all your love and friendship. God Bless!!!!”
Titta’s personal statement: “Ashent welcome me as a family receives a relative who has been far away for a long time: with friendship and affection. And it’s FANTASTIC. To replace such an impressive singer as Steve is a challange that cannot be undervalued, but I will give the best of myself in order to find the way into the fans’ hearts of this amazing band!”
So guys, see you at the next gigs, and stay tuned checking the official pages.
Lion Music are delighted to announce the signing of progressive metallers Anthriel.

“Anthriel – The Pathway” is set for release on October 15th 2010. More information on the album to follow soon. In the meantime check out the band at http://www.myspace.com/anthrielmusic where 2 samples can be heard from the debut album.
