EARTH Unveil Details For Anticipated New Album

December 2nd, 2010
by EvilG

EARTH have completed their highly anticipated upcoming full-length album, which has been a subject of much discussion over the past two years. Following the band’s magnificent 2008-released The Bees Made Honey In The Lion’s Skull opus, the next chapter in the ongoing EARTH legacy is ready for public consumption. To see release via Southern Lord Recordings in February 2011, the recently completed new album has been titled Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1, and promises to be a brand new entity within EARTH’s already impressive and constantly progressing lineage.

Joining founding guitarist and band frontman Dylan Carlson and percussionist Adrienne Davies, the album lineup this time around also includes cellist Lori Goldston (Nirvana, David Byrne, Black Cat Orchestra, Laura Veirs) and Karl Blau (K Records, Laura Veirs, Microphones) on electric bass. Returning to Seattle’s Avast Studios in April and July of 2010 to again work with producer Stuart Hallerman (Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Built To Spill, and Earth2), EARTH’s newest masterpiece shows the band continuing to expand on the Americana themes represented on The Bees Made Honey In The Lion’s Skull, and even their incredible 2005 album Hex (Or Printing The Infernal Method), taking their sound into broad new directions.

Citing inspiration from British folk-rock bands the Pentangle and Fairport Convention, as well as North African Tuareg band Tinariwen this time around, while still maintaining the thunderous, organic heaviness of previous EARTH releases, the material on Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1 is more fluid and melodically oriented in nature, relying on more textured patterns and a greater emphasis on improvisational songwriting tactics. This, as well as the inclusion of cello and other experimentation from the musicians involved, culminate into some unforgettable new hymns. The album was mastered by Mell Dettmer, who also remastered the recent re-release of EARTH’s first recordings in the form of A Bureaucratic Desire For Extra Capsular Extraction, released by Southern Lord in late October.

Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1 Track Listing:

1. Old Black

2. Father Midnight

3. Descent To The Zenith

4. Hell’s Winter

5. Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1

New Ironwood Album Storm Over Sea Out Now

December 2nd, 2010
by EvilG

Ironwood announces the release of their new album Storm Over Sea. The album is available for purchase in a luxurious digipak format with 24 page booklet, however the band has also made the entire album available for free download from their website.

Mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö at Sweden’s Unisound Studios, the new release is Ironwood’s celebration of the beauty, majesty, and fury of the ocean – literally and figuratively, for this is an album of spiritual and psychological dimensions as much as it is a deed of nature worship.

“We’re extremely proud of this release,” explained vocalist/bassist Henry Lauer, “and we’re confident that once people hear it they’ll be more than tempted to pick up a copy of the physical CD. So jump in and download away!”

Storm Over Sea, is available for purchase from the Ironwood website (www.ironwoodsound.com.au), with other distribution channels will follow shortly.

STORM OVER SEA

Will to Live

A Bond to Sever

When it’s All Over

Ironwood hails from Sydney, Australia. A channel for forces elemental and spiritual, Ironwood’s unique fusion of progressive|folk|metal invokes spiralling atmospheres and dark vistas.

Emerging in late 2006 in the Sydney metal scene, Ironwood rapidly established themselves as a frighteningly intense live ensemble, while simultaneously seducing more than a few hard bitten metal heads to the pleasures of folk and progressive music.

Their initial limited edition self titled EP release (2007) was greeted with celebration by critics and fans alike, and is sold out.

Ironwood then proceeded to release :Fire:Water:Ash:, their expansive debut album, in 2009. Again the critical and fan response was resoundingly positive.

After a select string of ecstatic launch performances in several Australian cities, Ironwood resolved to leap immediately back into song writing for ther sophomore effort.

The band’s second full length album, Storm Over Sea, is currently in post-production for a 2010 release. It sees the band delve much deeper into their metal and progressive influences, although the acoustic/folk elements still pervade. Ironwood has evolved and developed dramatically in the period since :Fire:Water:Ash: was composed, and Storm Over Sea will be a testament to this deepening and concentrating of their creative spirit.

Ironwood is Philip Brown (vocals/guitars/piano/cello/samples), Henry Lauer (vocals/fretted & fretless 6-string bass/additional acoustic guitar), Dan Nahum (drums) & Matthew Raymond (vocals/guitars/samples).

Cradle Of Filth – new video of Dani answering fans questions now online plus fans to choose next single

December 1st, 2010
by EvilG

Cradle of Filth reveals artwork for 'Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa'

Cradle of Filth - 'Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa'

Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, the new album from Cradle Of Filth was released last month on the band’s own AbraCadaver imprint through Peaceville Records.

Part of the reason that the band decided to release the album through their own imprint was that they wanted to have more direct control over the artistic process. Dani has said that part of the reason for switching labels was the desire to be a ‘bigger fish in a smaller more creative pond and we’ve been able to choose who we want for booking press and stuff. We’ve got the best of both worlds really.’

This new found freedom has also allowed them to connect directly with their legions of devoted fans around the world and Dani has taken time out of the gruelling rehearsal schedule for their forthcoming South American tour to answer some of the questions that were sent in by fans to Peaceville last month. A video of him answering the first batch is now on the album’s mini-site and a second video will be added next week.

In addition the band have now decided to let the fans choose which track from the album they should next make a video for.

Dani explains ‘we are really happy with the way that the first video, for Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned), but couldn’t decide which track would best so we thought we’d let the fans decide as we trust their judgement totally...’

A poll has been set up on www.peaceville.com/cradleoffilth which lists all the tracks from the album. The final choice will be made at the end of this year with the new video being filmed in January.

Metal Hammer have described Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa as:

“Yet another sumptuous and spectacular eruption of gothic melodrama, perverted sonic schlock and balls-out extreme metal bombast… a dazzling and dastardly display of destructive devilry.”

And Rocksound have stated that the album has:

“a masterful control over the multi-faceted Cradle of Filth sound; brutal vocal gymnastics, skull-rattling double-kicks, symphonic flourishes, dramatic narrative and balls-out axe-slinging all make their presence known, but in a manner which routinely serves to bolster the coherency of the greater whole…this fucking slays.” 9/10

The fans’ edition of the album (box set with 2CD + DVD, hard-back book and much more), plus the vinyl and 2CD special editions of the album, are now available to order from the band’s web store.

An album t-shirt is also available for £14.99.

Cult Doom Metal Band ELECTRIC WIZARD To Release New Album “Black Masses” On January 18th, 2011

December 1st, 2010
by EvilG

“THE HEAVIEST BAND IN THE UNIVERSE” SET TO UNLEASH NEW MUSIC

World-class British doom metal band ELECTRIC WIZARD will release its long-awaited new album Black Masses in North America on January 18, 2011 via Rise Above Records. The legendary group’s seventh studio album and first since 2007’s Witchcult Today, Black Masses was recorded with Grammy Award-winning British recording engineer Liam Watson (The White Stripes) in London’s Toe Rag Studios and promises to deliver “a crushing behemoth of funereal march pyschedelia” and “the oblivion and ecstasy of 10,000 watts of doom!”

Long hailed as the true heirs to Black Sabbath, ELECTRIC WIZARD have achieved near iconic status in the metal underground but have not — as of yet — crushed the world! Now, in league with Satan himself, ELECTRIC WIZARD prepares to annihilate the planet with Black Masses, its new LP and dark prayer to “Luciferian heavy metal” via crackling, vintage valve amplifiers set to full overdrive. Propelled by gigantic riffs and dripping with dark, bluesy undertones, Black Masses is an ugly, sleazy and dirty album steeped in unruly themes of 70’s exploitation cinema, occultism, substance abuse and narco-satanism. Taken as a whole, the record creates a twisted amalgam of late 60’s dark acid psychedelia and early 80’s satanic metal, all draped in both vile, misanthropic imagery and lyrics.

“This ritual incantation of heavy metal sorcery will break down your psyche as wave upon crushing wave of lead weight acid-laced Doom leaves you numb and broken before our unholy altar,” declared ELECTRIC WIZARD cult leader Jus Oborn when reached for comment. “Violent, bleak and ritualistic, we bow to the black altar of the RIFF. We do not rock, we kill!”

The track listing for ELECTRIC WIZARD’s Black Masses is as follows:

1.) Black Mass

2.) Venus in Furs

3.) Night Child

4.) Patterns of Evil

5.) Satyr IX

6.) Turn Off Your Mind

7.) Scorpio Curse

8.) Crypt of Drugula

Accessible and exciting yet violent and evil, ELECTRIC WIZARD has been riding a black wave of success since its formation in 1993. The band is an all encompassing paean to “dark and weird subjects” and a true celebration of bizarre low brow art (think: Weird Tales), vintage horror and B-movies, subversive foreign comics and H.P. Lovecraft coupled with a morbid fascination in cults, witchcraft, freemasonry, biker culture and ancient occult sciences and how these dark arts can be applied to music. The quartet’s incendiary and apocalyptic live performances have thrilled audiences the world over culminating in near iconic status amongst true fanatics and devotees of HEAVY music. Now the band has prepared Black Masses – its greatest work and bleakest art in unholy thanks! Prepare…

In addition to Oborn, ELECTRIC WIZARD features Liz Buckingham (guitars), Tas Danazoglou (bass) and Shaun Rutter (drums / percussion).

Updated ELECTRIC WIZARD news and information will be made available via the band’s online domain: www.myspace.com/electricwizarddorsetdoom
