In the seventh of nine installments, bassist/vocalist Grutle Kjellson and rhythm guitarist/songwriter Ivar Bjørnson of the progressive/psychedelic Norwegian black metal band ENSLAVED offer commentary on the songs that will appear on the band’s new album Axioma Ethica Odini, which is scheduled for release in Europe on September 27th and in North America on September 28th.
Grutle on “Singular”:
“This was definitely the song we spent the longest time working with. It was hard to come up with ideas for arrangements, and we tried out a lot of different stuff. In this process, however, we enjoyed the song more and more. When we finally finished writing the arrangements, it was a real pleasure to record it! A fantastic song, full of surprises and changes. Without doubt, the most progressive song this time. Gotta love it!”
Ivar on “Singular”:
“This is where the ‘last part’ of the album starts: For me, the first four songs represent the Extreme Metal tradition of ENSLAVED, while ‘Axioma’ and ‘Giants’ represents a transition into the last part where we are showing more of our influences from so-called progressive music and Classic Rock. In ‘Singular,’ I would say that it is more the form than the actual tonality and chord progressions that are pointing towards these influences: The riffs are on the Extreme/ Black side with the occasional nod to classic Thrash Metal. It is classic ENSLAVED in the sense that it is rule-breaking, somewhat chaotic at first listen, yet logical at the same time, building intensity towards a droning stretch towards the end. Conceptually, the song deals with the concept of being Singular, the Power of One – not to be confused with ‘Goth-alone.’ For me, it could be dealing with the fruits of taking the pain and disasters as natural, valuable parts of the journey, and the pleasure of reaping what you’ve sown.”

ENSLAVED will embark on a 7-show “Circling Above and Within Tour” of Europe beginning October 15th and will return to North America in November as the direct support act for DIMMU BORGIR. All upcoming tour dates are available here.

Due to circumstances outside of the band’s control, LAMB OF GOD will not be able to perform in Monterrey on October 6th, 2010. While the band was anxiously looking forward to play for their fans in Monterrey, the promoter Rock Amerika did not fulfill their obligations in regards to the band’s fee, travel, or production logistics. Therefore, the band did not feel the show would be presented in a professional way for the band’s performance or for their fans. The band apologizes to all of the people that purchased tickets to the show and promises to return in the future to play. The show in Mexico City on October 5th will go on as scheduled.
HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 23, 2010) – In an announcement made today, Haunted Movies partner Jason Blum unveiled plans for the company’s next picture, The Lords of Salem, to be directed by Rob Zombie from a script by Zombie. Set in modern-day Salem, the film involves the demonic return of a 300-year-old coven of witches.
This is the third entry in a new horror slate deal between Haunted Movies and Alliance Films. The first picture to come out of this partnership is Insidious, written and directed by the original Saw team of James Wan and Leigh Whannel, and starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. Insidious recently premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival on September 14 and immediately was the subject of a bidding war, which was won by Sony Pictures Worldwide, who will handle the release of the film later this year. The second picture is The Bay, helmed by Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson and currently shooting in South Carolina.
Octane, IM Global’s genre arm, is handling international sales on the Haunted Movies slate, including on The Lords of Salem.
Zombie has experienced great commercial success as the writer and director of five feature films, and as one of the defining rock music icons of his generation. He’s been nominated for 7 Grammys and has sold over 15 million albums worldwide. His film credits include the cult smash House of 1000 Corpses (Lionsgate 2003) and its landmark sequel The Devil’s Rejects (Lionsgate 2005), the animated film The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (Film Roman 2009), and the record-breaking blockbuster re-imagining of John Carpenter’s Halloween (Dimension 2007), along with its sequel Halloween 2 (Dimension 2009), which gave new life to the franchise.
Haunted Movies is a partnership between Jason Blum, Steven Schneider, and Oren Peli, the same team behind the box-office phenomenon Paranormal Activity (Paramount 2009) and Paranormal Activity 2 (set for release by Paramount this October).
The Lords of Salem will be produced by Blum, Schneider, and Peli, Zombie, and Zombie’s producing partner Andy Gould. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik will executive produce.
Zombie currently is about to embark on a three week tour of debauchery with Alice Cooper on The Halloween Hootenanny Tour with special guests Murderdolls. The tour kicks off in Los Angeles at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Thursday, September 30th and will criss-cross the USA with a tour de force of ghoulish s delights for your aural pleasure, giving the fans a show of a lifetime.

Cradle Of Filth – new track streaming on Peaceville plus IPhone app launches with fan competition
A preview of a new track from Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, the forthcoming album by Cradle Of Filth is now streaming on the album’s mini-site . The track, titled The Cult Of Venus Aversa, is also playing on the band’s new iPhone app which launched this week.
The free app contains audio samples, videos, pics and allows you to keep up with all the latest news from the band. The app also has a top users function which awards users points every time they use the app (i.e. write on the fan wall, post photo, share items to Facebook and Twitter, listen to tracks) and then ranks these users. The band are offering a special prize of a unique signed art print of the album’s artwork plus a signed copy of the album to whoever is the top user at midday (UK time) on the day of release (1st November 2010) Full terms and conditions are on the mini-site.
In addition to the new track the mini-site also features a video blog, info about the album, a gallery featuring new band pics and elements from the album artwork, a link to download a MP3 of the track Lilith Immaculate, downloads and more. The site is being updated on a weekly basis with new video blogs, fan competitions, promo videos, new downloads and more. We shall also be adding previews of a different track from the album every Wednesday.
Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, released on the band’s own AbraCadaver imprint through Peaceville Records on November 1st and in the USA through Nuclear Blast on November 9th, is the band’s ninth studio album and in the words of Cradles infamous frontman Dani Filth is ‘without doubt the fastest and most brutal album we’ve created to date. As an acquaintance of the band so aptly noted, this is like Iron Maiden on crack in a graveyard of angels!’
‘This album is Cradle at our most sinister and darkened fairytale’, continues Dani. ‘A gothic horror themed slay-ride of fervour and perversion; yet amidst the orchestral melodrama and lush, cinematic production, there sits stalwart a ravening beast of furious riffing, flesh ripping vocals and monstrous, unstoppable percussion.’
Grammy nominated Cradle of Filth have been pioneers of extreme music since their debut in 1994 and have continued to evolve with each of their subsequent releases. Unafraid of ruffling a few feathers, the band have continually refused to bow to convention or to conform to prevalent trends and fads. Yet despite this uncompromising stance the band are still the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden, with legions of fans around the globe.
Never shy of embracing the epic, Cradle have constantly sought to push the boundaries of their art. Whether through elaborately theatrical stage shows (incorporating giant lumbering puppets, fire-breathing dancers, freaks and stilt-walkers from the notorious Circus Of Horrors), provocative merchandise (including the now legendary Jesus Is A C*** t-shirt), breathtaking artwork or the weighty subject matter of their albums (their previous one was a concept album telling the story of a French Lord who fought alongside Joan Of Arc, before embarking on a horrific killing spree), this is a band who have refused to be confined by the labels that have been placed on them.
The band (comprising of Dani Filth-vocals, Paul Allender and James McIlroy-guitars, David Pybus-bass, Martin Skaroupka-drums and Ashley Ellyllon-Keys) recorded Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, the follow up to 2008s Godspeed on the Devil’s Thunder, at Monkey Puzzle studios near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Cradle of Filth remain stalwarts to the satanic horror ethos by again composing a fully blown concept album, this time based on Adam’s first wife, the lascivious Demoness Lilith; throwing Medieval nuns, Knights Templars, Greek mythology and lashings of sex, occult lore and violent bloodshed into the smelting pot, to create a darkly erotic nightmare set to their unique scope of supreme vampyric metal. And with an as-near-as-dammit release date of All Hallows Eve 2010, Cradle of Filth are snarling at the leash to get out to all of their fans across the world. ‘We can’t wait to play this shit live’, admits Dani.
Los Angeles, CA (September 22, 2010) – Multi-platinum-selling rock band ALICE IN CHAINS will debut the video for new hit single “Lesson Learned” on Yahoo! Music today. Conceived and directed by Paul Matthaeus, known for his groundbreaking main titles on the award-winning HBO series “Six Feet Under” and “True Blood,” and produced with Bobby Hougham and Sevrin Daniels of Blank Design, the video is comprised of over 6,000 still pictures stitched together to create a visually stunning stop-frame animated clip.
Using physical lacerations as a metaphor for lessons learned, the video sees a young man and woman plummet through a derelict industrial building. Tattered clothes dissolve off, revealing wounds that symbolize emotional learning. The video was shot entirely as a stop–frame animation, but with live actors on set. The clip can be seen at music.yahoo.com.
Following the Grammy nominated smash “Check My Brain” and second single “Your Decision,” “Lesson Learned” is the third consecutive top five single to be released from Alice In Chains’ gold-certified new album Black Gives Way To Blue (Virgin/EMI). It’s also the 13th top ten hit of the band’s illustrious career.
The “Lesson Learned” video follows the recently released “Acid Bubble” clip, an interactive video produced by Spy Films and director Nick Goso in which users manipulate their perspective and experience 360-degree environments. It can be seen here: http://bdsobsolescence.com/
Alice In Chains (guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, guitarist/vocalist William DuVall, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez) have spent the past year performing a string of sold out headlining tours around the world in support of Black Gives Way To Blue.Fueled by lead single “Check My Brain,” which rocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard Rock Songs Chart, Black Gives Way To Blue entered Billboard’s Top 200 at No. 5. They maintained momentum with follow-up hit “Your Decision,” which also shot straight to No. 1. The album has also been drawing rave reviews: Playboy gave it four stars, calling it “Alice In Chains’ Back In Black.” The Boston Globe wrote, “Alice In Chains is back in business and business is good,” and Metal Hammer said, “Alice In Chains are back and every bit as exciting and heavy.” The fans have been equally vocal: Guitar World magazine readers poll voted Black Gives Way To Blue “Rock Album of the Year” and readers of Revolver magazine awarded the group “Album of the Year” honors at the recent Revolver Golden Gods Award show.

OL DRAKE, lead guitarist for British thrashers EVILE, is preparing to bungee jump next to London’s famous Tower Bridge this Saturday, 25th September along with Metal Hammer editor ALEXANDER MILAS.
OL DRAKE and ALEXANDER MILAS will be jumping from Pottersfield Park, next to Tower Bridge, at 10:30am on Saturday whilst dressed as cowboys. Fans are encouraged to head down and watch the brave metalheads throwing themselves off the 160ft crane.
OL DRAKE will be jumping in memory of late EVILE bassist MIKE ALEXANDER and in aid of the British Lung Foundation, while ALEXANDER MILAS will be jumping in aid of the Ronnie James Dio ‘Stand Up and Shout’ Cancer Fund.
With just days left until the jump, OL DRAKE offers his final thoughts:
“I think I am more nervous of having to walk through London to get to the jump while dressed as a cowboy. If anyone gives me any abuse, I will spray them with the two water pistols I have. I will no doubt be shouting ‘SLAYER’ on the way down in honour of Mike. Looking forward to it! Hope to see some people at the bottom shouting things at us. In the name of Mike and Dio, we shall jump off a big crane (never thought I’d be saying that, in so many ways).
“Right after I’m back down to earth safely I’m gonna have a pint of cider and then get back up to Huddersfield to leave on our 3-month US tour. Back down to earth, and back on the road.”
Metal Hammer editor ALEXANDER MILAS adds:
“I watch the clock nervously as the moment of truth approaches and my mind is awash with self-doubt. Will the cord be strong enough? And more importantly: will I look sexy in a cape?
“Deep, resounding thanks to all who’ve generously contributed to this victory of foolhardiness over common sense – it’s for a very good cause. In the name of Mike Alexander, Ronnie James Dio and heavy metal, we’ll be making gravity our bitch. Onward!”

(New York, NY) — POWERGLOVE have released the second video teaser surrounding their next record “Saturday Morning Apocalypse” which is due out September 28th, 2010. Combining power metal style with nostalgic theme songs of popular 1980’s and 90’s theme songs, the band has tapped into the minds of generation X and Y with their most interesting release to date.
“Saturday Morning Apocalypse came out brighter and darker, faster and slower than our previous releases,” says drummer Bassil Silver. This is the band’s first record with eOne Music and this time they’re taking their songs in a new direction. The band had previously stuck to 8 bit Nintendo game theme songs. However, this new release is their take on Saturday morning cartoons and movies that anyone who’s grown up in the 80’s will immediately recognize. Silver concludes with, “No matter what we write, we know all the comments will be about how bizarre we look, how ridiculous this track list is, and the fact that we somehow got Tony Kakko to sing the Pokemon theme for us. We would tell you how clown-rapingly awesome it is, but you can decide that for yourself when the album comes out in September.”

“We are POWERGLOVE and we are here to f*ck with your childhood!” proclaims the band at the beginning of their live shows. After finding success mining the brains of the A.D.D. driven video game generation with songs like “Tetris,” POWERGLOVE have set their sights on the inner child in all of us. To this end, the band has set its blasters from stun to kill; it’s target: the world! The band has recently completed two separate, successful, tours with HAMMERFALL and SONATAARTICA. Watch for them this summer as they continue to add dates for video game festivals and live performances.
POWERGLOVE is composed of four battle-hardened rockers out of Boston, MA: Alex Berkson, Bassil Silver-Hajo, Chris Marchiel, and Nick Avila. This band shreds metal renditions of everything from old school 8- bit video game classics to contemporary blockbusters, all with a heavy metal attitude.

Keyboard virtuoso Mistheria returns with an all star cast for the neo-classical progressive metal tour de force “Dragon Fire”. Home to 13 tracks of full on metal pomposity, this is music crafted around stirring vocal melodies and impassioned first class musicianship. The virtuoso meter of the personnel involved sets a new standard and fans of artists such as Symphony X, Malmsteen and Artension will find this a sheer musical delight.
The grandiose music on offer has its home within the classical music masters but the metal charge brings “Dragon Fire” firmly into the present day. Yet this is more than musical virtuosity. Mistheria has taken great care to produce songs first and foremost with catchy vocal melodies and big choruses and just one listen will prove that he has succeeded in his aim producing captivating compositions. After demos for the album had been made the personnel was then hand selected by Mistheria to bring out the best in each track with the highest calibre musicians within the genre chosen to do justice to his songs.
The vocalists comprise of John West (Artension/Royal Hunt), Rob Rock (Impellitteri/Solo), Mark Boals (ex Malmsteen/Ring Of Fire/Royal Hunt), Lance King (Balance Of Power) and Titta Tani (ex Astra / Ashent). Each vocalist’s unique style has been selected for the appropriate track to deliver Mistheria’s vision. The same process was used for the guitarists with George Bellas (solo/Ring Of Fire), Neil Zaza (solo), Roger Staffelbach (Artension/Angel Of Eden) and Emir Hot (solo) plying their virtuoso guitar work which blend beautifully with Mistheria keyboards to recreate the classic guitar/keyboard pairing in all its glory. The bass was ably handled by Alberto Rigoni (Twinspirits) and drums come courtesy of John Macaluso (Ark, TNT, ex Malmsteen) whose performance is full of high-power heavy grooves and tons of energy making this one of his best performances to date.
Yet despite the number of musicians involved there is an impressive sense of cohesion to the material all thanks to the quality of Mistheria’s initial vision shining through in all aspects. Even the sound of the album has produced and mixed to his own personal taste. Mistheria comments, “Since I only wrote vocal melodies and lyrics for “Dragon Fire” and vocal melodies for “Eye of the storm” songs (although I gave ideas for the others), all singers involved influenced the songs prominently with really great lyrics and melodies. John Macaluso’s job on drums has been nothing short of astonishing starting from my programmed drums guideline. The guitarists moved on my own demo ideas as well as Alberto Rigoni on bass and their job has been simply perfect. Ivana Greguric wrote a song exclusively for the album (The Beast) and her work is really remarkable”.
