Finnish death metal outfit CORPSESSED has signed with Dark Descent Records for the CD release of their self-titled debut EP. Scheduled for an early 2011 release, the EP features six tracks of bludgeoning old-school death in the vein of Entombed, Incantation, Deicide, Immolation and Grave. Select tracks from the EP have been posted on the band’s official Myspace site, while more information on CORPSESSED can be found on their Facebook page. A video for the song “Altar Of Worms” can be viewed at this location.
CORPSESSED was spawned from putrescent slime in 2007, after the dissolution of an earlier project Skullfucker. Vocalist Niko Matilainen (Skullfucker), guitarist Matti Mäkelä (Tyranny, Wormphlegm) and drummer Jussi-Pekka Manner (Skullfucker, Pohjoinen Kuri) were joined by guitarist Jyri Lustig (Cardinals Folly) and the (de)composing of morbid death metal tunes began at the rotting houses of the Järvenpää delta-area.
The group’s original bass player Mikko Mäkelä disappeared in unknown circumstances, but was replaced in 2009 by Mikko Pöllä (Azure).
Look for CORPSESSED’s debut EP out soon on Dark Decent Records (CD only), with vinyl treatment coming courtesy of French label Ostra Records.
Like a bunch of zombies drunk on embalming fluid, veteran hardcore thrashers THE ACCUSED prepare to take their Splatter-Rock-Speakeasy and After-Hours-Sicko-Sideshow into turbo-nuclear-tombstone-kicking overdrive with the announcement of a new stick-breaker in Warren A. Pease (pronounced “war ‘n’ peace”) Said the band in a collective statement: “He’s a relatively young chap at the tender age of 25. Then again, with THE ACCUSED founding guitarist, Tommy Niemeyer rounding the corner heading into half-century territory, who isn’t young to that old fucker? Warren, or ‘Andy’ as he’s affectionately referred to most noticeably at first brings his youthful enthusiasm and perpetual grin to THE ACCUSED. But don’t let the friendly face fool you into thinking this is some run-of-the-mill, trigger-tapping tom-tom-tickler. No! The young Mr. Pease possesses an absolutely mind-boggling, pile-driving, double-kick drumming style that will make you wonder if he’s got extra appendages hidden away back there somewhere. Having the freshly-plucked Warren A. Pease now on drums will up the ante for all who are dealt-in when THE ACCUSED bring their horror-filled freak show to the stage sometime early 2011. The Kings of Splatter Rock are back with a vicious and brutal hardcore attack.”
In related news, THE ACCUSED will unleash a new video for “Hemline,” the seventh track off The Curse Of Martha Splatterhead, released via Southern Lord Recordings last year. The video is a mini-Splatter epic starring the lovely and terrifying Martha Splatterhead, was shot in three locations from Marysville, Washington to Los Angeles, California and directed by Federico Aragon. A worldwide premiere of “Hemline” will be announced for later this month. Be sure to check the band’s website for further instructions!
Jack Osbourne, producer for OZZY OSBOURNE’s upcoming documentary Wreckage of My Past: The Story Of Ozzy Osbourne, says it’s done. Check out the Artisan News report below:
The film will be the first release from Jacko Productions, a company started by Ozzy’s son Jack. The film is said to be an intimate documentary that delves deep into the life of music icon Ozzy Osbourne. A sober Ozzy has reached a point of clarity as he looks back on a lifetime of unparalleled success, misdiagnosed disease, unrelenting fear and a recurring dependency on drugs and alcohol. This is a film about reconciling the past and looking toward the future.
The titans of Christian metal! In the 80s, California’s Stryper ranked among the greatest in melodic metal. Albums like “To Hell With the Devil” (1986) sold millions of copies and songs like “Free”, “Honestly” and “Always There For You” became smash hits on MTV. Consequently, many of Stryper’s fellow Christians claim that the band were not “true” believers. This frustrated the quartet, who gradually switched styles and eventually dissolved. However, history redeemed Stryper’s legacy, and the band reunited permanently in 2003. Their music and lyrics are once more reminiscent of the golden age, and currently Stryper’s third album since the reunion, the cover release “The Covering”, is pending release. Many have yearned for the band to come to SRF, and now they finally will – in their classic original line-up featuring brothers Michael and Robert Sweet (vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), Oz Fox (guitar) and Tim Gaines (bass).
Confirmed bands so far out of a total of around 70:
Judas Priest –
last show ever in Sweden
Whitesnake – with very special guests
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Rhapsody of Fire
Jason & the Scorchers
Dan Reed Band

Helloween is a German power metal band founded in 1984 in Hamburg by Kai Hansen on vocals and guitar, Michael Weikath on guitar, Markus Grosskopf on bass and Ingo Schwichtenberg on drums. Helloween were one of the pioneering and also most important bands of the 80’s European heavy/speed/power metal scene. Their early albums HELLOWEEN and WALLS OF JERICHO fared comfortably but it wasn’t before band hired a new vocalist, the 18 year old Michael Kiske, and released albums KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS pt.I and KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS pt.II before the band hit the big time and found their worldwide success. Hansen left in 1988 and he was soon replaced by Roland Grapow. The following album PINK BUBBLES GO APE was somewhat disappointing both sales and musical wise and next they tried to break some new grounds with 1993’s CHAMELEON. Instead of taking a heavier approach, the band ventured into completely new territory. They were eschewing its signature double-guitar harmonies for synthesizers, horns, acoustic guitars, country music, grunge and everything in between. Some changes were needed and so Michael Kiske and then seriously troubled drummer Schwichtenberg were let go. In the late 1993 Helloween found itself from a very difficult situation. There was no singer, no drummer, and no record contract (EMI released the band from its agreement because of the disappointing sales numbers of PINK BUBBLES GO APE and CHAMELEON).
Helloween returned in 1994 with a renewed line up which included vocalist Andi Deris (Pink Cream 69) and drummer Uli Kusch. They also had a new record deal with Castle Communications and as a result MASTER OF THE RINGS was released later on that year. The new incarnation of the band proved to be very successful and the following albums TIME OF THE OATH, BETTER THAN RAW and THE DARK RIDE did all great both commercially and critically. But still, more changes followed when Grapow and Kusch were released from their duties in 2002. New guitarist Sascha Gerstner stepped and made his first Helloween album appearance on RABBIT DON’T COME EASY in 2003. After having several drummer candidates in the early 2000’s, it was Motörhead’s Mikkey Dee who played on the RABBIT album, the band finally found a permanent player when former Rawhead Rexx drummer Dani Loble joined in 2005. The current lineup has so far released three studio albums: KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS pt.III – THE LEGACY, GAMBLING WITH THE DEVIL, their latest opus SEVEN SINNERS, one live album KEEPER OF THE LEVEN KEYS – THE LEGACY WORLD TOUR 2005-2006 and the Anniversary album UNARMED – THE BEST OF 25’TH ANNIVERSARY. It seems that the band, despite all those changes and troubles in the past, is now enjoying this time of their lives and there’s no end in sight. Helloween started their latest world tour to support SEVEN SINNERS and in November and in the middle December 2010 they came to Finland to play two sold out shows. In Helsinki we had chance to sit down with Mr. Grosskopf and discuss the new tour, past changes, and various other topics… Read more!!
Rejuvenated German heavy metal legends, ACCEPT, took the #1 spot Metal-Rules.com’s annual best of list. The album easily took the top position beating out their fellow countrymen, Blind Guardian, who took the #2 position in the chart.
Best Metal Album of 2010: Accept - BLOOD OF THE NATIONS
BLOOD OF THE NATIONS is Accept’s 12th studio album. It’s been a very long time since their previous release – 1996’s PREDATOR. Since then, the band has undergone a few changes, the biggest being in the lead singer department. Former T.T. Quick front-man Mark Tornillo has taken over the reigns from Udo Dirkschneider and is filling his combat boots rather well.
Hopefully this line-up has a few years in them and can build upon the greatness of the pure heavy metal found on BLOOD OF THE NATIONS!
