Comprised of two Dallas Cowboys (Marc Colombo and Leonard Davis) and a Miami Dolphin (Cory Procter), Free Reign is certainly a larger than life heavy metal crew.  With the line-up rounded out by non-footballer and accomplished guitarist Justin Chapman, the quartet is readying the release of an all-new single, “One Step Away” which follows up on the promise of last year’s five-song release, ‘Tragedy’.  The “One Step Away” single is currently on sale via iTunes and all digital sales providers.

Explains Colombo, “‘One Step Away’ is a song about feeling close to success – whether it’d be a band that has worked so hard but could not quite reach their dream, or a team/player that’s accomplished so much but a championship just seems to allude them.  What keeps people coming back is the idea that maybe this time nothing will stand in your way of achieving your ultimate goal.”

“One Step Away” will be released by the band via their own label, DC Rightside Music, and a new, full-length studio album will follow-up the single in April 2011.

Recently, Free Reign won Revolver Magazine’s Golden Gods Award, for “Most Metal Athletes.”

In the group, right tackle Colombo handles vocals, right guard Davis handles bass, and center/guard Procter mans the drums. Immediately upon hitting the metal scene, Free Reign was heralded by some of hard rock/heavy metal’s most recognizable names, including Black Label Society’s Zakk Wylde (“FREE REIGN kicks ass! These guys will pound you into submission, check them out now!”), and Twisted Sister’s Eddie Ojeda (“These guys are Twisted Cowboys, I love it…horns up!!”).  And with the impending arrival of “One Step Away,” Free Reign are quickly becoming a true hard rocking powerhouse.

SLAYER AND ROB ZOMBIE TO BRING HELL ON EARTH TO NORTH AMERICA; The Two Metal Icons Will Together for the First Time in More than a Decade

March 28th, 2011
by EvilG
Slayer - North American Tour With Rob Zombie and Exodus

Slayer - North American Tour With Rob Zombie and Exodus

LOS ANGELES, CA – MONDAY, March 28, 2011 — Get ready for hell on earth, because for the first time since they tour together on Ozzfest 1999, Rob Zombie and Slayer are teaming up to hit the road, bringing a glorious purgatory to fans in 12 North American cities. The co-headline trek kicks off Wednesday, July 20 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA.  Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 1 at 10:00AM local time.  Tickets for all shows are available at the venues’ box office, and via the online outlets as listed below.

“We haven’t toured with Zombie since Ozzfest 1999, so you can expect no less than ‘hell on earth,'” said Slayer’s Kerry King.  “Total sonic annihilation and a visual bludgeoning.  Bring your own body bag…”

“Total destruction on stage and off is what this combination promises,” states Zombie, “Seriously, how much more Hell could you ask for? The answer is none more Hell.”

Both Zombie and Slayer will present their full headline sets at every show, and both bands will close shows over the course of the tour.  San Francisco’s thrash-metal band Exodus has been confirmed to open all shows.

Slayer has been performing its classic 1990 Seasons In the Abyss album in its entirety over the past several months, but will instead draw from its entire 30-year catalogue for this tour’s setlist.

Never one to play it safe, Zombie will be bringing his legendary stage show out in full force. Audiences can expect an exploding non-stop barrage of sin, sex and Satan guaranteed to rip your face off. This a true rock and roll spectacle at its finest.

Rob Zombie: With more than 15 million albums sold, seven Grammy nominations, the helming of five major motion pictures (including the #1 record-breaking “Halloween”) and dozens of music videos under his belt, Zombie is truly a force to be reckoned with in today’s entertainment landscape.  For over 25 years his unique meld of horror and hard rock has influenced his sound as a musician, and more recently, his vision as a director and writer.  After the tour, Zombie will be starting production on his sixth feature film, “The Lords of Salem,” with the producers of the Paranormal Activity franchise.

Slayer: The Chicago Tribune‘s Greg Kot wrote that the  four-time-nominated, two-time Grammy winning Slayer is “one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre.”  Indeed, few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer brings to its live shows, having been named “Best Live Band” by numerous media outlets including RevolverSPIN, and Metal Hammer.  With songs that mirror the turmoil and aberrations of our society – God’s terrifying global genocide, the chaos of our broken political system, chemical warfare, the hideous minds of serial killers, and the way-too-close proximity of world horrors that technology has brought us, Slayer remains crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the Mainstream.

Dates for the Slayer and Rob Zombie tour are as follows:

20    Sovereign Center, Reading, PA – ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster locations

According to a report from Brazil’s Terra.com, the band stopped playing and Dickinson explained that the band would return to the stage once the barricade had been repaired. After 20 minutes, the crowd began losing its patience and Dickinson then returned to the stage to inform the audience that the show had to be cancelled.

He also informed the fans that Iron Maiden would play the HSBC Arena (March 28th) at the same time to make up for the cancellation. Footage of Dickinson addressing the crowd can be viewed below.

Interview with Stryper guitarist Oz Fox

conducted by Robert Williams

The yellow and black attack otherwise known as Stryper has been dishing out and delivering their distinct brand of hard rocking Christian metal for going on thirty years now. With the release of the band’s latest studio effort "The Covering" the band showcases the secular hard rock and heavy metal music they grew up with, paying tribute to their peers from metal’s heyday in the eighties with faithful interpretations of songs by the likes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne and so on. Taking a quick time out on the band’s tour bus, longtime Stryper lead guitarist Oz Fox took the time to fill us in on the band’s new album, as well as a trip or two down memory lane.

Hanker: Left to right: Pascal Cliche (lead singer/guitar), Luc Guay (drums), Laurent Imbeau (bass) and Patrick Gravel (guitar/back vocals)

After a career spanning 26 years, Hanker announce today their retirement from the scene. It was more and more difficult for them to carry on with jobs and other daily obligations. However, their legacy is here to stay: 5 great CDs and 1 EP (which ALL received many praise reviews from diverse media) and countless gigs throughout these years.

One of the highlight is their appearance in Germany as one of the headliners at the Headbangers Open Air festival in July 2004. Hanker went out on a high note with their latest album Conspiracy Of Mass Extinction released in 2010 via Hellion Records in Germany, which received many great reviews.

The band members would like to sincerely thank all their fans that have been exceptionally loyal throughout all these years and all the metal media that have supported them in this great ride.

HELL – Kev Bower

 Kev Bower – Hell

Interview by Arto Lehtinen

The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) started a new chapter in the Heavy Metal genre over 30 years ago. Several bands were founded which have achieved fame and glory or everlasting cult status. Some of them just vanished without much of a fuss. Hell, hailing from Nottingham, achieved cult status by putting out demos, EPs, and above all creating an occult based visual approach. The band disappeared from the map and years passed by until 2010 when Hell returned due to Andy Sneap’s neverending support and pushing towards the band. The debut album called HUMAN REMAINS is a masterpiece of occult heavy metal with an old school metal grip. The band’s guitarist Kev Bower enlightens more on how Hell reunited and goes back in time to the old days.

Dark Harvest Records merge with NoEX Records

March 26th, 2011
by EvilG

Dark Harvest Records announced today that they are merging with NoEX Records to create an innovative and aggressive position in the ever changing music label business.

Dark Harvest Records, founded in 2006 by Worst Case Scenario drummer Daniel Paris, has become a recognized force in the extreme metal world. The label was formed out of frustration Paris had in seeing so many bands out on tour being unable to attract the commercial label’s eye. DHR was born to give talent the needed boost to grow their career. Dark Harvest has worked with metal juggernauts such as Herod, Ares, Final Curse, Blood Tribe, Sloburn and many more.

NoEX Records, a division of NoEX Productions LLC located in Fredericksburg Virginia, was started by music industry and dot com veteran Jay Burton as an “experiment” in how labels can function in the new music economy. The indie label was focused on providing up and coming artists with the support needed to boost their career and to get their music to a wider audience through the use of innovation and technology.

NoEX Released albums for BITTER and Stitch The Lids in 2010. Burton will be joining Dark Harvest as a partner to develop innovative marketing concepts and work on artist development for the label. Also Burton will give DHR a foothold in the booming NorthEast Metal scene. NoEX Productions LLC will continue to offer production and recording services as well as operate the popular Internet Radio Channel Eyes Sewn Shut Radio. “I have worked with and known Daniel for over a decade and remember when both companies were just an idea we talked about over a few beers. The Industry is evolving rapidly and we share so many of the same concepts and ideas that the merger simply made sense” stated NoEX Founder Jay Burton.

NoEX Records will cease label operations immediately with Dark Harvest absorbing some of the current artists into their lineup. Details are still pending on the artist details.

Daniel Paris, owner of DHR, added “Dark Harvest Records was started with the intent on bringing the best underground bands who have been overlooked to the forefront of the metal world. We are constantly looking for new opportunities to make the process even better and faster. First with the merging of Blunt Force Records, and now with the addition of Noex. Noex Records has an innovative outlook on working with the digital market and provides services with some impressive young talent that brings some new energy to the family.”

With this new energy, Dark Harvest Records is planning a massive assault on the industry. “We have so many amazing new things coming in 2011, the industry has no idea what it is in for” stated Burton.

Dark Harvest just released the EP Repulse from Indiana based metal band Blood Tribe and has plans to expand their once tightly guarded roster through new programs. “We are aggressively seeking new acts, especially up and coming acts that we can take into the family and work with to develop their career, music, and performance prior to a major release”, stated Paris.

DHR Distro is offering worldwide distribution on a consignment basis through the powerful 7th level of Hell program to unsigned bands around the world. A new website is in the works, new social marketing sites, and a new push toward the top is in the future for Dark Harvest Records.

"Blunt Force Trauma" - Cavalera Conspiracy

"Blunt Force Trauma" - Cavalera Conspiracy

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY — the project featuring former SEPULTURA members Max (guitar, vocals) and Igor Cavalera (drums) — will release its sophomore album, “Blunt Force Trauma”, on March 29 via Roadrunner Records. The entire CD is now available for streaming for a limited time at RoadrunnerRecords.de.

“Blunt Force Trauma” was once again tracked with ex-MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader, who co-produced the LP with Max. Logan also mixed the follow-up to the band’s debut album, “Inflikted”, which has sold less than 50,000 copies in the United States since its March 2008 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The brothers Cavalera co-founded SEPULTURA, the Brazilian metal band that redefined and established the genre outside of the U.S. and Europe. After Max exited the band, there was a rift between himself and his brother, one that was eventually repaired through the redemptive power of music. Some time had passed and Max and Igor were unable to resist the musical pull in their magnetic fields and their musical collaboration was renewed. The duo are back for round two with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY.

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY’s lineup is filled out by guitarist Marc Rizzo, who plays with Max in SOULFLY, and bassist Johnny Chow.

FREEDOM CALL To Release Live In Hellvetia CD/DVD On June 14th

March 25th, 2011
by EvilG
FREEDOM CALL - Live In Hellvetia CD/DVD

FREEDOM CALL - Live In Hellvetia CD/DVD

Having sold over 35,000 copies of their debut, Stairway To Fairyland, FREEDOM CALL’s tour with SAXON, ANGRA and EDGUY turned into a triumphal march. The tour culminated with memorable shows with SAVATAGE and SKEW SISKIN in August 1999 as part of the Popkomm music fair in Cologne. The band played almost fifty shows in 2000 and proved their worth at various festivals, like the Wacken Open Air 1999 and 2000.

Their second release, Crystal Empire, even surpassed the debut’s success. The sales figures increased, and even before the album was available, Freedom Call were invited to the Metal Fest in Bologna, Italy, the Metal Days in Switzerland and delivered an unforgettable performance at the STRATOVARIUS / RHAPSODY show in Bourges, France.

Following the release of Crystal Empire, Freedom Call embarked on a 63-day European tour with HAMMERFALL and VIRGIN STEELE that took them through Scandinavia, Holland, Germany, Austria, Hungry, France and Spain, among other countries.

June 2002 saw the arrival of the third Freedom Call recording, Eternity” followed by an extensive tour with BLIND GUARDIAN. During that time period they recorded Live Invasion. At the same time, Freedom Call established themselves as a headlining act in their own right and they were celebrated as the stars of the Wacken Road Show 2004 night after night.

The Circle Of Life saw the integration of more modern and unusual arrangements into the band’s sound, extending the musicians’ sonic range – an element which their album, Dimensions, also benefits from. With both albums they toured extensively with bands like RAGE and DRAGONFORCE.

In 2010 the new album, Legend Of The Shadowking, saw the light of day. The album is based on the story of King Ludwig II and charted in Sweden and Finland. In February/March 2010 Freedom Call embarked on a huge European tour together with GAMMA RAY and in May 2010 with AXEL RUDI PELL. Afterwards they played over 40 gigs on festivals and as a headliner. After nearly 15 years of existence and approx. 200,000 albums sold it was time for the first DVD which was shot by the end of 2010 in Pratteln, Switzerland.

Both the CD and DVD packages include the entire live show from Pratteln, Switzerland. The second disc of the DVD set includes interviews, a A Day In The Life Of Freedom Call featurette and much more. The limited edition 2 CD/2 DVD deluxe package contains both CD’s, both DVD’s and a deluxe A1 Poster.
