After seeing their latest album “Wormwood” debut at #67 on Billboard’s Top 200, Western Massachusetts’ freight train of fury, THE ACACIA STRAIN, are proud to announce their first headlining tour since the release of “Wormwood,” last month.
The “To Catch a Predatour” sees THE ACACIA STRAIN heading out along the East Coast and in Canada with support from THE RED CHORD, TERROR, GAZA, and THE CONTORTIONIST. “To Catch a Predatour” is presented by All In Merchandise, Revolver Magazine, and Metal Injection. THE ACACIA STRAIN are extremely excited to head out with some of today’s top metal and hardcore acts out in support of their newest, and already critically acclaimed fourth record on Prosthetic Records. There will be a special tee shirt available for purchase only during this time in addition to all their new tour merchandise. If you are in the Holyoke, MA area on the 20th of November, be sure to come out to the Waterfront Tavern as this show will be a benefit for a dear friend of the band who recently passed away due to a decade long battle with cancer.

Lebanon’s infamous AYAT – whose 2008 MORIBUND-released album, Six Years of Dormant Hatred, strictly polarized critics as either “genius” or “garbage” but forcing an opinion out of everyone – reveal that they’re currently recording their follow-up MORIBUND album, tentatively titled Carry On Carrion. As vocalist Filthy Fuck explains, “So I walked. And the 67 viral winds of the East whistled in my hollow bones, particles of disease sticking on the edges. And William died on me, too. A fever runs through my blood like rivers to the sea. Six years of dormant hatred lay in pieces behind me and thousands of dead motherfuckers are walking around the thousand-times-dead fucking mother-city. And the dead exceed the living and will look after them in their own special way. And there was but one phrase on my tongue like a snake rolled on a shaft – ‘Carry on, carrion… Carry on…’.”
The track listing to Carry On Carrion has already been decided by the band, but AYAT wish it to remain secret until release. Additionally, they promise that the new album shall be longer than 60 minutes and should be finished next month, with a late winter or early spring release through MORIBUND likely. When pressed for further details, Filthy Fuck simply shrugged and said, “Nothing but the fact that it will be longer, more insane, more vicious, and will shy Six Years… to a battered pulp. Not only by force, mind you, but also by sheer acidic caustic erosion. And we’re Lebanese. In case some guy missed it.”
Select press blurbs regarding AYAT’s Six Years of Dormant Hatred are as follows:
“With an OTT approach reminiscent of JUDAS PRIEST alongside a good old sense of MAYHEM, the album is invested with a pestilent, rune-cursed allure not unlike IMPALED NAZARENE at their most dangerous” – Zero Tolerance
“You can take the battle/war metal foisted upon the masses by bands who live in countries that haven’t seen the devastation war can bring in centuries, fold them into a nice little square and shove ‘em up your keister, for all Ayat is concerned…shredding perceptions of what a metal band in the Middle East should ‘be’” – Metal Maniacs
“An infectious yet caustic black metal album…drifts back and forth between bludgeoning black ‘n’ roll, blast-‘til-we’re-dead black metal ditties, and the hit-or-miss mesmerizing drone riffs. The fact that they combine these three very different styles together seamlessly and with some of the best samples ever immeasurably ups the ante for Six Years’ sheer sonic menace” – MetalReview.com [9.2/10 rating]
“In just under an hour, Ayat wreaks more havoc than a bus full of suicide bombers with psychotically nuclear-blasting, sado-sonic tunes…ultimately AYAT defines their own sound” – Blabbermouth.net [8.5/10 rating]
“It sounds berzerk and fierce unlike any band that I can think of. Ayat take elements from so many influences in and out of metal and punk that they’ve conceived something that is one of the most original metal releases I’ve heard in the better part of a decade” – Gravemusic.com [9.1/10 rating]
“The Middle East’s answer to MINISTRY?” – Metal-Archives.com
“The whole effort comes across as more than a little deranged and wide eyed with psychotic instability that’s ready to strap on a bomb and march right into your skull and blow it to bits” – TeethofheDivine.com
“The power, passion and feeling I felt as this played gave me goosebumps” – Metalcore Fanzine
“Ayat are literally taking their lives into their hands by releasing such blasphemy and billing themselves as the first anti-Islamic black metal band. Such zeal gives great weight and legitimacy to Ayat’s form of black metal, perhaps even more so than the original Norwegian scene…just absolutely drips with power” – Live4Metal.com
“Imagine ATARI TEENAGE RIOT and THE BOREDOMS working with MAYHEM and BEHERIT” – Absolute Zero Media webzine

Twisted Sister close Bloodstock Open Air 2010 (credit: Enda Madden)
BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR solidified its position as the UK’s only true outdoor Metal Festival, enjoying its most successful year so far. As well as celebrating its 10th anniversary, BLOODSTOCK reached yet another milestone achieving its first five figure turn out. Over 10,300 metalheads descended upon Catton Hall in Derbyshire to see nearly 80 acts, including headliners OPETH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, FEAR FACTORY and TWISTED SISTER, as well as a plethora of other top names in the world of metal.
Highlights included a one minute tribute to the legendary RONNIE JAMES DIO – 60 seconds of cheering and horn raising – to christen the main stage, and a very rare performance from Swedish tech-metal heroes MESHUGGAH on Friday, a highly memorable set from DEVIN TOWNSEND on Saturday, who after contending with having his band’s equipment held up in customs, turned the disaster around to put on an extremely entertaining show, pulling in one of the biggest crowds of the weekend. Sunday saw the first ever UK performance of death metal supergroup BLOODBATH, who took the stage covered in bruises, cuts and an assortment of other injuries, as well as GOJIRA’s only UK show of 2010.
After BLOODBATH’s set, GWAR frontman ODERUS URUNGUS took the stage to draw the winner for BLOODSTOCK’s exclusive car raffle. The holder of ticket number 12281 is yet to claim their prize of a brand new Toyota Aygo, and must claim their prize within the next seven days. If you purchased your ticket from HMV in Canterbury, check your ticket stub, as you may well be the proud owner of a brand new car! The second prize winner is also yet to claim their prize of a WHITE BC RICH GUITAR courtesy of ROSETTI, plus a pair of VIP Tix for 2011, as well as a goody bag. This second prize winner is exceptionally lucky, as the holder of ticket number 05547 attended the festival after winning a competition via media partner ROCK RADIO. The third prize of 2 x VIP tickets for next year’s BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR went to Joe Macriner, who was the holder of ticket number 07508.
But the real surprise treat came following death metal legend’s CANNIBAL CORPSE’s punishingly heavy set, when BLOODSTOCK revealed the first headliner for 2011. The news of IMMORTAL’s only UK show of 2011 via a two-minute trailer on the main stage video screen was welcomed with huge cheers from the BLOODSTOCK crowd, leaving no doubt that the Norwegian Black Metallers’s first ever UK festival performance will be a highly anticipated one.
Closed by a monumental set from TWISTED SISTER, who ploughed their way through classics such as “You Can’t Stop Rock’n’Roll”, “I Am (I’m Me)”, “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock”, the atmosphere at Catton Hall right was electric, with all present enjoying not only BLOODSTOCK’s most successful year yet, but also the excitement of the first announcement for 2011, tickets for which are on sale now for the roll back price of £90 – fixed until December 2010 to beat the VAT increase.
BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2011 12th – 14th AUGUST 2011

With three acclaimed albums and a live album etc. behind them, Danish Black Metallers HORNED ALMIGHTY have now finished their new studio album entitled “NECRO SPIRITUALS”. Recorded in May-June 2010. Mixed and Mastered by Jacob Bredahl (Hatesphere, Koldborn etc) at Dead Rat Studios.
An album comprised of the strongest and most fierce material written in the bands 8 year existence. Yet again, crushing all doctrines and rules with their “Don’t give a shit” take on black metal, as a testament to all that is extreme.
Out on Candlelight Records 25th of October 2010
New track for your necro pleasure here
Originally formed in early 2002 by S. and Hellpig, both active in the extreme metal underground since the early nineties, the filthy ugly beast that is Horned Almighty was puked from the gutters of Hell initially as a duo. First intended as a side project, Horned Almighty quickly became first priority and shortly after the first primitive demo had been recorded, the drum-throne was seized by Harm. Rehearsing began for yet another demo, which in late 2003 ended up in the recording of four hellish songs in the bands own recording studio,”Vomit”, a true shithole.
Before releasing the demo, some labels were approached with the material and Infernus Rex from the Netherlands released the material as a 7” ep, called “In the year of our horned lord” April 2004. At the same time, the bastard cult of Horned Almighty had their first live performance, featuring a session bass player, and sharing the stage with prominent names such as Dismember and Carpathian Forest.
In the summer of 2004 four filthy new songs were puked onto tape and released as the split Lp ”To The Lord Our Lives” by Hearse Recs. Moribund Records from the US did the cd version shortly thereafter.
At the same time rehearsing began for what was to become the first full length album and the ”Black Metal Jesus” album was recorded in the autumn 2004, once again in ”Vomit”. Infernus Rex released the album in November 2004 and the underground seemed to embrace Horned Almighty’s, at the time, quite different take on the Black Metal phenomenon. A video for the song Satanic fatherland were plotted and the recording took place at a local gig, which also featured new member Aries from french act Black Dementia on strings.
After a minitour with Danish Death Metal veterans Exmortem, a new video for the song ”Terror Soul” was shot and chopped by fellow fanatics.
Late 2005, rehearsals for a new album began and it was recorded, once again, in Vomit February 2006. In April 2006 the second album”The Devils Music – Songs of Death and Damnation” was released, again by Infernus Rex, receiving overwhelming reviews from the underground and metal media, both because of the well crafted songs, energetic production and the highly provocative and blasphemous cover artwork. The album sold quite well and got Horned Almighty playing several festivals in germany, sharing the stage with the likes of DHG, Lord Belial, Azaghal and many more…
The band’s performance on the United Metal Maniacs festival in Germany in 2007 was incidentally recorded and the true ferocity of the concert resulted in the ”Live Exsanguination” 10” live lp.
The third and latest album”Contaminating the Divine” took quite a bit longer to write than the previous albums. A lot more energy and time were put into crafting this ugly abomination and the effort paid off. Nine brutal and diverse hymns were recorded for the album and for the first time, the band recorded outside their shithole ”Vomit” and spent time in several studios tracking the album. Outside help was acquired for the mixing and mastering, which was handled by Jacob Bredahl (ex-Hatesphere) in his Smart’n’hard studio and the result was astonishing. Mixing the primitivism of Celtic Frost with the aggression of Discharge and the ugliness of Autopsy, all drenched in the eerie and disturbing rot of early nineties Black Metal. As one fan noted: ”This sounds like a fucking Missouri-class canon shot at the Vatican!”.
”Contaminating the Divine” was released in February 2009 as a joint effort by the two German labels Obscure Abhorrence and Art of Propaganda and received even more praise than its predecessor and got top reviews all around.

Having asserted its position as the world’s largest touring rock festival and achieved sell-out status for the UK leg at Knebworth in just its second year, Sonisphere is now gaining high recognition in the digital realm. As an exceptional case, Sonisphere is the only brand to have gained two shortlisted entries among the final six in a single category – Best Event – in this year’s BT Digital Music Awards, the Oscars of the online world. It is also up for the People’s Choice category of Best Official Website.
Its two successful entries in the Best Event category are for:
1) The groundbreaking live ‘Cinecast’ broadcast of the Bulgarian leg of the festival tour which was watched by over 100,000 cinema-goers in the UK and beyond and famously had fans forming circle pits and stage invasions in the Leicester Square Odeon back in June.
2) The integrated digital strategy that helped propel the Knebworth event in its second year to become “the UK’s premier metal festival” (The Guardian) – one of the most spectacular festival success stories in recent years.
Other contenders for the award include Glastonbury Festival, Pendulum’s album preview live stream, Nokia presents Rhianna Live and The Ukulele Prom.
Fans can vote for Sonisphere in the Best Official Website category at:
Underlining the phenomenal growth of the Sonisphere brand in the UK and further afield has been an intensive focus on digital communication as a means to attract, engage with and reward what has already become a loyal, colossal audience of rock fans.
The last eight months have seen Sonisphere amass a staggering 7.7 Million unique visitors to its official website with 27 Million page impressions, 10 Million views on its online Sonisphere TV video player and 209,000 Facebook fans across Europe. It undertook the largest ever deployment of official festival mobile apps, releasing 33 properties including separate iPhone, Android and Java versions for each event on the tour. The Knebworth iPhone app was ranked Number 4 in the official iTunes UK Music App Chart in August and boasts a four star customer rating.
Stuart Galbraith, Series Producer for Sonisphere Festival comments: “I can’t emphasise too much the importance of digital to Sonisphere. We are very proud to produce what has become one of the most visited rock websites in the world right now and to have laid new ground that is already re-defining the way all music festivals communicate and build affinity with their audiences.”
Over 700,000 fans visited the 11 Sonisphere Festivals across Europe this year, which means more than one million festival goers have attended some of the best rock festivals in Europe over the last two years. The festival survived mud baths in Switzerland and Sweden, a sandstorm in Spain and a freak tornado in Finland. The Poland, Turkey, Sweden and Switzerland shows were the largest rock festivals ever to be staged in those countries.

For Irish thrashers GAMA BOMB, file-sharing has proved to be an important and recurring topic of discussion.
Having released their 2009 album, TALES FROM THE GRAVE IN SPACE, online as a completely free download, GAMA BOMB’s strong feelings about file-sharing largely oppose the views of many other musicians and artists. TALES FROM THE GRAVE IN SPACE – which remains free to download to this day – has sold just as many physical copies of the album in the short time since its release as the band’s previous album has to date, indicating that the open availability of the album as a free download hasn’t in fact harmed the band’s sales.
PAUL McGUINNESS, manager for fellow Irish rockers U2, recently posted a lengthy article for GQ Magazine in which he discusses his views on the problems of file-sharing.
GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE has written an open letter to PAUL McGUINNESS in response to his article. An excerpt follows:
“U2’s manager Paul McGuinness’ recent article is well-reasoned, well-informed and commendable in its aims – though it’s crazily short-sighted. It falls at the last hurdle when envisioning future solutions to the problems file sharing causes for the music industry, and is filled with logical blind-spots on the current state of the business. He’s got the numbers right, but the headspace is all wrong.
“To his credit, Mr McGuinness is here wading into an argument that, as he notes, often involves untold abuse for those willing to stick their oar in. Furthermore, it’s one that doesn’t affect his untouchably profitable bread-and-butter, U2. So who am I to gainsay him?
“Last year my band Gama Bomb released their third album free of cost as a download with the permission of our record company, Earache Records. This, to my knowledge, makes us the first signed band ever to do so.
“We took this step because we personally consume music in this way and were aware our previous albums were largely being consumed as shared files. To release another CD in the traditional way seemed futile. Also, as a band playing a niche form of music on a small budget, we were aware of the potential PR power of such a move. The label agreed, we did it, and that’s why I feel qualified to dust off my soap box on this one.”
Read the full letter on GAMA BOMB’s official blog.
TALES FROM THE GRAVE IN SPACE is still available to download for free at http://www.earache.com/gamabomb

Headlining tour to kick off this September
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – Sweden’s leader in progressive metal, Katatonia, has teamed up with heavy metal’s leading lady, Full Metal Jackie, to give fans a chance to win a Mayones Guitar played and autographed by Katatonia from their US tour. The grand prize winner will win the guitar, the tour edition of Night Is The New Day, a Mayones Guitar t-shirt, plus a choice of a t-shirt from Katatonia’s merch store powered by Omerch: http://www.bandstores.co.uk/shop/katatonia/products.php?cat=1135. A runner up will get the new CD and their choice of t-shirt as well. Head over to: http://fullmetaljackieradio.com/enter.php?c=464 for your chance to win!
Katatonia, will kick off their North American tour – the “Night Over North America” tour – on September 8th in Baltimore. To coincide with the 26-date US and Canadian tour, Peaceville Records has released a special edition of the acclaimed 2009 studio album, Night Is The New Day, in a hardback mediabook, with 20 page booklet, and bonus track, “Ashen”. The special edition Night Is The New Day hit stores on August 24th.
Night is the New Day is Katatonia’s eighth studio album. It was recorded throughout July 2009 and was co-produced, engineered and mixed by David Castillo. A continuation of the heaviness, depth and atmosphere of their previous album, Night Is the New Day is also a more multi-dimensional effort – waltzing between prog moments, doom, folk and the classic melodic anthems that are the staple of Katatonia’s uncompromising sound.
Cover art once again comes courtesy of Travis Smith (Katatonia, Opeth, Novembre) who continues the stylistic identity established so effectively since The Great Cold Distance.
The track list for the Night Is The New Day special edition is…
2.) The Longest Year
3.) Idle Blood
4.) Onward Into Battle
6.) The Promise Of Deceit
8.) New Night
10.) Day and Then The Shade
11.) Ashen* (Exclusive Bonus Track)
Katatonia has been relentlessly touring across Europe in support of their 2009 full-length release, Night is the New Day, which sold over 2,000 copies in the US in its first week. The band also released an EP, ‘The Longest Year’, earlier this spring. The latest music video for the EP’s title track can be viewed at: http://www.nightisthenewday.com/.
Now the band is set to unleash their brand of melancholy metal on North America, headlining the MetalSucks.net sponsored, “Night Over North America” tour, alongside Swallow The Sun and Orphaned Land. A teaser trailer for the forthcoming headlining US tour can be seen at: http://www.vimeo.com/12823455.

Do you wonder what SABATON did in the studio about one month ago?
Do you wonder why Primo Victoria, Attero Dominatus, Metalizer and Art of War is so hard to get these days?
This is why…
To be able to continue to do what we all love, meaning to continue to play music and to tour the world, we have now purchased the rights to the SABATON music.
And to celebrate this we want to make them available again to all of you in a unique cooperation between SABATON, Nuclear Blast and Black Lodge.
Now what does this mean??
Well, first it means that when you buy a SABATON album, more of the money spent on the albums will actually go to SABATON and second it means that we want to celebrate this by making the first four albums available again, but in really cool new versions!
We give you… The SABATON RE-ARMED Editions and here is a sample of one bonus track!
The 4 first original albums of Sabaton, complete with new artwork, new booklets, posters and of course: New music!
We have dug deep into the treasury of SABATON to find unique, strange, funny and unexpected songs.
Every album on the RE-ARMED editions will feature new tracks and they will include some old demos, some coversongs, some live versions of songs, some really old and unheard songs and some completely new songs recorded in Studio Abyss.
They will all be re-released on the 27th September 2010 & can from today be pre-ordered right here!

British crossover thrashers SSS have recently returned home after completing their “Wreck and Annoy” headlining European tour and have posted a tour debrief on their blog page.
SSS frontman FOXY looks back on the tour:
“Wreck and Annoy tour has had its share of ups and downs, the good and the bad and great we have digested and relished. Tour is what it is, we love it.”
SSS have been keeping track of all of the fun and antics of life on the road on their new tour diary blog page. Read the band’s tour debrief and look back at their recent adventures at http://sssliverpool.blogspot.com
The name of SSS’s “Wreck and Annoy” tour also wasn’t without irony, as the band’s frontman, FOXY, broke his foot while skateboarding in Pinkafeld, Austria. That didn’t slow down the frontman, however, as he soldiered on for the remaining shows of the tour, performing each night on crutches.
Check out a hilarious video of FOXY making the most of his broken foot as he spends a day out using a mobility scooter at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s45abYN31Zc
Catch SSS live at the following shows:
Oct. 30 – Liverpool, UK – Night of the Living Dead 8
Nov. 06 – Leeds, UK – Damnation Festival

Album: “The Crystal World”
Label: Utech Records
Catalog Number: URCD 56/57
Art: Justin Bartlett
Release Date: November 27, 2010
‘The Crystal World’, the third studio album from Locrian, is an epic journey. Titled after JG Ballard’s 1964 novel that tells the story of a physician who specializes in leprosy sent to a remote African outpost to discover a jungle that is slowly crystallizing and encroaching upon everything it touches. Disc one comprises six tracks while disc two consists of one extended piece, ‘Extinction’, that picks up on the intensity of disc one and sustains it for close to an hour. On ‘The Crystal World’, Terence Hannum, and André Foisy, are joined by Steven Hess (On, Pan American, Ural Umbo) on percussion and electronics.
Hess’ contribution pushes Locrian deeper into the abyss of despair rendering a sound that is darker, bleaker, and engulfing than any of the group’s previous releases. Locrian continue the conceptual trajectory of blackened drone that the group initially embarked on during their first studio album ‘Drenched Lands’ (2009). Masters of layering, ‘The Crystal World’ finds the group manipulating tones and textures that transport the listener to an apocalyptic wasteland. At times, the layers are serene and somber, at other times they are chaotic.
Of Locrian’s three studio albums, ‘The Crystal World’ is the essential release, finding the band creating a sound all of their own. A sound that evades simplistic analogies to black metal, power-electronics, noise, or other categories. This is the album that will stun fans of the bands previous works with how far the group has come from their early releases. Vinyl edition out on Utech Records in 2011.
The group will be debuting material from this album at the Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, NC on Thursday, Septebmer 9th. The group will share a stage with Burning Star Core and The Ocean.
For more information, please visit the Land of Decay website.
The links between heavy metal, harsh noise and dark electronic drone should come as no surprise. Some of the best black metal records, after all, feel like half-still sonic smears, and the control of or chaos in feedback has inspired legions in every form. Even if the means are distinct, each of those genres revels in musical viscosity—who can be the heaviest, the meanest, the most exhausting with their sound? But few artists have exploited those intersections as vividly and explicitly as the aggressive, interstitial Chicago duo Locrian.
As Locrian, André Foisy and Terrence Hannum—and a constant flux of peers and friends—have been prolific for about four years, releasing a deluge of proper albums, CD-Rs, 7” records, cassettes and even an 8-track. But Locrian’s two 2010 LPs—Territories, a split release by four different labels, and The Crystal World, due in November on Utech Records—have pushed the band from the upstart experimental fringes into the domain of must-hears. Alternately eerie and irascible, Territories gets didactic in its exploration of those divides. On an 11-minute storm with the appropriately daunting name “Procession of Ancestral Brutalism,” Locrian gathers black metal ringleader Blake Judd of Nachtmystium, heavy metal saxophonist Bruce Lamont and power electronics legend Bruce Solotroff for one destructive trip. An exploration of clashing tones and structures, it’s one of the year’s most vivid, ponderous pieces of music, proclaiming possibilities for exploration rather than suggesting them. The Crystal World softens the focus a bit, scattering ghastly howls and relentless drums beneath walls of sound that seem to suffocate and swirl without ever really doing either. During closer “Elevators and Depths,” Locrian even adds circular acoustic guitar and violin. They wrap those layers around howls and noise that suggest an exorcism. It’s the sound of suspect redemption.
