Newly signed to eOne Music, sludge metal legends CROWBAR recently re-released three influential records, CROWBAR, LIVE +1 and TIME HEALS NOTHING on October 5th, 2010. These three records are the band’s core titles and have influenced many of today’s major metal acts including LAMB OF GOD and HATEBREED. With each title originally being released in the early nineties, this will be the first time all three records will be widely available in stores and online. A new CROWBAR record is planned for early 2011.
Kirk Windstein formed CROWBAR in 1991. Since that time, the band’s sound has profoundly influenced a new generation of metal acts the world over. Weinstein is also a key member of KINGDOM OF SORROW (with HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta) and DOWN.
Canadian heavy metallers CAULDRON have released a brand new track on the band’s revamped MySpace page.
The new track, called “All Or Nothing”, is from the band’s upcoming new album, BURNING FORTUNE, which is due to be released on Earache Records on February 14th, 2011 in Europe and February 15th in North America.
Extreme Management Group and American technical death metal innovators ORIGIN are pleased to announce the band’s worldwide recording contract with Nuclear Blast Records. ORIGIN, who are responsible for such genre-defining classics as Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas (2002) and Antithesis (2008), will enter Chapman Recording Studios in Lenexa, Kansas tomorrow with long-time engineer Robert Rebeck to record their Nuclear Blast debut. Rebeck’s work can be heard on ORIGIN’s Antithesis and Echoes Of Decimation (2005) albumsin addition to the A Coming Into Existence demo (1998).
“It is a great honor to be working with Nuclear Blast,” comments founding member & guitarist Paul Ryan. “We are excited to be working with a label with such an amazing presence in the metal scene. They have some of the best extreme bands in the history of extreme music and we are very honored to be apart of this. We are eager to join the ranks of the Nuclear Blast roster!”
Drummer John Longstreth adds: “We are very excited to begin working on our next album under the guide of Nuclear Blast Records! Being signed to one of the largest and most successful heavy metal labels makes it only natural that you will definitely be seeing a lot more of this band. Plans are already being laid by Extreme Management Group for the U.S., Europe, Asia, South America, Mexico and pretty much everywhere with a stage and (future) ORIGIN fans. To us, it’s only fitting that after 10 years, it came time to make a few positive changes so that we could continue to create this insane form of music for you. We are very excited to bring album #5 to our fans and we feel confident that our fans will not be let down.”
Ryan Caddell, who directed and filmed the video clip for “Portal” and the bonus video on Echoes Of Decimation, will be joining the guys in the studio once again to document the creative process leading up to the creation of ORIGIN’s fifth album plus capture all the behind-the-scenes mayhem.

EX DEO, the ancient Roman-themed arsenal led by KATAKLYSM front man Maurizio Iacono, checks in from the current stop on the “Those Whom The Gods Detest Tour II” in Tucson, Arizona with label mates NILE, Tazmanian tech-death masters PSYCROPTIC, and Norwegian extreme metallers KEEP OF KALESSIN.
Vocalist Iacono offers the following update:
“It’s amazing to see a vision I had one day waking up finally become a reality two years ago. We had done a few shows in America with Ensiferum for our debut album Romulus that were fantastic, but to go across the country and really seeing people waiting anxiously for this and screaming their hearts out for it live has been one incredible feeling. I feel EX DEO is changing the game of the underground, bringing a theater to the live stage and bringing a new concept that has never done before. This is a beast of a band and we would like to thank everyone for the great support. With this said, I would like to announce that we will indeed begin pre-production on the next album Caligula – the follow up to the highly-acclaimed debut Romulus – as soon as the world tour for KATAKLYSM will end next year. Expect a revolutionary album that will breathe the word ‘NEW’ into a much stagnant metal industry. It is yet undermined which label will release Caligula as we are looking at many different options.”
View the video for “The Final War (Battle Of Actium)” here. The clip was released on March 15 (The Ides of March) in honor of the Roman god of war, Mars, who – according to myth – fathered Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome.

Texas-based, mythological occult metal band, ABSU will join the mighty Immortal on their return to the US for six shows early next year. The dates, announced yesterday, will mark the first live performances for ABSU since the Scion Rock Fest in March of this year; the band completing two headline tours in 2009 to support the release of their sixth studio album, titled Absu.
Drummer/vocalist Proscriptor notes, “We feel extremely privileged to have been invited to participate on Immortal’s All Shall Fall US tour in February 2011. Even though it is only a six-date tour, it’s a colossal one for ABSU to be performing with our former label mates of many years. We had the opportunity to share the stage with Immortal over eight years ago and this will be a very good experience for us.”
ABSU came to international prominence with the release of their debut album, Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L in 1993. After several highly acclaimed albums, the band went on hiatus after the release of their 2001 album, Tara. In 2007, the band announced their return, and released Absu in late February 2009. “Absu is the sound incarnate of a band making the underground amazing again,” said Terrorizer. Kerrang! affirms, “Absu is an album that stuns on impact alone…. absolutely devastating.”
These upcoming performances will mark the first time that ABSU will appear live as a trio. Proscriptor comments, “I am here to announce that guitarist Aethyris McKay has decided to quit ABSU and has recently relocated to Oslo , Norway to join Pantheon I. Working with Aethyris for the past three years has been a prosperous experience and I have the utmost respect for him as my comrade and a superlative musician. He assisted me in resurrecting the band from its hiatus stage and I truly thank him for helping me recast the spell of “mythological occult metal.”
Immortal w/ ABSU U.S. Tour:
2/19/2011 Gramercy Theater – New York, NY
2/20/2011 Sonar – Baltimore, MD
2/21/2011 Mr. Small’s Theatre – Pittsburgh, PA
2/22/2011 Bottom Lounge – Chicago, IL
2/24/2011 The Summit Theatre – Denver, CO
2/26/2011 Backstage Live – San Antonio, TX
After completion of the dates with Immortal, ABSU will enter the studio to begin recording their new album, titled Abzu. The recording will be the second of a three-part series. Proscriptor reveals, “this recording will feature our signature sound in maniacal fashion. Now, we’re appending dirtier elements of psychedelia and fusion characteristics. Lyrically, it will descend deeper into Enki’s lower world as well the Enochian Magic(k) System. I can tell you this album will definitely not be a “natural progression” from previous releases, but a feat of metaphysical conquest and murkiness.”
Projected track listing of Abzu (in no particular order) is: “Circles Of The Oath,” “A Song For Ea,” “Skrying In The Spirit Vision,” “The Waters – The Denizens,” “Warren Of Imhullu,” “Earth Ripper,” “Ontologically, It Became Time & Space,” “Vita Janua Mortis.”
Costa Rica-based melodic extreme metal band SIGHT OF EMPTINESS will support OBITUARY on Nov 23rd at @ Peppers Club in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Commented SIGHT OF EMPTINESS singer Eduardo Chacón: “Playing with OBITUARY in our home country makes me feel so happy, because John Tardy was one of the first death metal singers who really impressed me when I was a little kid, his style is unique and that did motivate me back in the day to start trying out different techniques. Plus, Ralph Santolla is coming with them, so it can’t go wrong, he adds his own signature and awesome shredding skills.”
This will not be the first time SIGHT OF EMPTINESS was chosen to be the opening act for an international act in Costa Rica. They were previously handpicked by MEGADETH, AMON AMARTH and DARK TRANQUILLITY to open their shows in the country. In addition, they shared stages with such bands as LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY, TESTAMENT,FIREWIND and SABBAT (featuring Andy Sneap, producer of the latest MEGADETH album, “Endgame”).
“Burning Silence”, the new video from Costa Rica-based melodic extreme metal band SIGHT OF EMPTINESS, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed on May 9, 2010 when SIGHT OF EMPTINESS supported MEGADETH in front of 15,000 metalheads at Autodromo La Guacima in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Rafa Castro (Lead Guitar)
Rod Chaverri (Drums)

MetalSucks contributor Leyla Ford recently spoke with PENTAGRAM frontman Bobby Liebling. Liebling shared some news about the band’s forthcoming album, as well as what he’s been up to nowadays:
ON THE NEW ALBUM:
You’re off to record the Last Ritesalbum soon, I believe?
I leave Wednesday morning and we start recording the album this coming Sunday night [November 21].
I’m sure you’re pretty excited about it. Can you tell me a bit about the new record?
Actually, the songs on Last Ritesare predominantly, I’d say two-thirds [of them are] songs I wrote in 1970, and if you’re familiar with any Pentagram stuff at all… you know each album is usually a sixty-forty split. Sixty percent is stuff that I did in the early ‘70s, and forty percent is collaborations and new stuff. The upcoming album is slated to have thirteen songs, but we don’t know if we’re going to be able to record all of them. We’re going to try to get it all in. It’s going to be a shorter album, but it’ll be part of a double-disc set with an hour-long live DVD from last year’s Maryland Deathfest.
Is there a definite release date for it?
No, not a definite date, but it’s scheduled to be released in early April. I was told by my superiors [laughs], as it were, that I shouldn’t talk about the record label, but I will say that we’ve got a multi-album deal and it’s with a significant, well, let’s say the largest label I’ve ever been on.
That’s great, congratulations!
Thank you, it’s been long enough coming. 2011 marks Pentagram’s fortieth anniversary.
Wow, that’s a good, long run. Hopefully with many more years to come.
We’ll see! That’s why I’m calling it Last Rites, just in case! But there are four songs that are brand-new, and the other nine consist of several I wrote on my own, and a few I wrote with my original drummer, Geof O’Keefe. Those are the ones scheduled to be on there. But one of the old ones might go, as well as a new one. We’re doing a cram course, you might call it. All the other Pentagram albums that have been done were recorded over a three-month period. This album is going to be done in three weeks. We’re rehearsing it five days, that’s it, and these songs have never been played by anyone in the band [currently].
ON HIS LIFE THESE DAYS:
My life has changed in a great deal of ways. I met my wife, and the last three years I’ve had a very, very different life. I’ve been clean for the first time after forty years of drug addiction — that’s a long, long time. Now I have a baby, and a house, and a dog, and a picket fence and backyard and all that stuff! Being straight is a really new awakening for me, and it’s really fantastic. And some people might think it’s corny, but I just tribute it to the guy upstairs nowadays. Pentagram was never a “Satan” band like people think it was, it was always just giving you the layout, like the album says, of your choices, because you have to make a choice, and there are two ways you can go. The songs were sort of like warning,s and people mistook those for us being black metal and all that kind of stuff. Then came the eras of the death metal and black metal bands, a lot of them were influenced [by us] supposedly, and they tell me on tours and stuff, but, you know…

Within Temptation are currently in the studio finalizing their long awaited fifth studio album with producer Daniel Gibson. Titled “The Unforgiving”, this is the band’s first concept album and is based on a comic book story written by script writer Steven O’Connell (BloodRayne & Dark 48).
The album is set for release in March 2011, via Sony Music to coincide with the band’s European tour.
Within Temptation guitarist Robert Westerholt comments, “On this album, we’ve taken a totally different approach. Each song on “The Unforgiving” was written along Steven’s narrative. The main characters of the comic are reflecting the characters of our songs. The concept pushed us and gave inspiration to come up with a new approach in our sound. It resulted in writing our best songs so far.
Renowned for their visual presentation, Within Temptation have asked comic artist Romano Molenaar (Witchblade,Darkness and X-men) to draw the characters and scenery of “The Unforgiving”.
Sharon den Adel, Within Temptation’s stunning vocalist, continues, “We have been big comic fans since our childhood. With this album we felt the time was there to take a new step in our creative development, take it further and broaden our horizon. Next to the concept form of the album, the songs are more divers than ever before. In addition, the music of the late 80ies, that’s when we started to read comic books, certainly has left a mark on our new sound”.
As a starting point for the new album, Within Temptation have re-launched their website www.within-temptation.com.The site will be the prime source for their worldwide fan base to discover clues about and the first images for “The Unforgiving”. The character of the new homepage is unique, having more in common with a news channel or a community than a static band website. One of the chief functions of the re-launched site is to be fully interactive with the band’s fans – they can become official reporters for their country, writing news stories in relation to Within Temptation but also about other lifestyle or entertainment topics. A very popular new section is WT TV, where the band updates their fans through filmed interviews or documentaries, such as the recent Fan Club Day footage which fans from around the world attended.
Within Temptation’s symphonic rock, crowned by the crystalline voice of Sharon Den Adel, has brought the remarkable band a decade-long international career and seen them become one of the most popular bands of their genre.
Within Temptation career facts:
More than 3 million albums and DVDs sold world-wide

Canadian melodic thrash metal pioneers ANNIHILATOR escaped a large fire on Wednesday night, shortly after playing to a packed house in Nottingham, England whilst on their European headlining tour.
ANNIHILATOR were packing up their gear from the Rescue Rooms venue in Nottingham city centre at around 1:00am when a large fire broke out next door. 1,400 people were evacuated from the venue as well as others from surrounding buildings. No one was injured in the incident.
Emergency services were called to the scene and were still putting the fire out on Thursday afternoon, causing significant disruption to the city’s transport services. Some of ANNIHILATOR’s equipment was still in the venue at the time of the fire and the band and its crew were unable to retrieve it until Thursday.
Edu Falaschi has recently participated in the recording of a song that is to be a part of a new animal protection campaign, fighting against social violence and destruction of the environment. The action is inspired by ANDA – The News Agency of Animal Rights – Brazilian organization established by the journalist and animal defence activist, Silvana Andrade. Edu Falaschi recorded a song together with such renowned national artists as Lucinha Lins, Elba Ramalho, Cláudio Lins, Carlinhos Brown, Patrícia Marx, Tetê Espíndola among others.
According to the vocalist, he is always very happy to take part in such kind of projects and that the environmental protection & animal defence awareness should always be promoted. If everyone does what he can, even any little effort will give the humanity more chances to change the actual situation, believes Edu.
The song will be released soon in Brazil by the initiators of the project. To learn more about ANDA organization in Portuguese: http://www.anda.jor.br/
At the moment Edu Falaschi is touring with ANGRA supporting the brand new studio album of the band “Aqua”, released in Europe and North America on 27 Sept./12 Oct. through SPV/Steamhammer. The band recently performed in Japan (2 shows at Loud Park Festival) and Taiwan (1 headlining show in Taipei). Until the end of 2010 Angra will continue making shows in Brazil, and on 13-14th of January the band will play in USA together with another legendary Brazilian-based metal act, Sepultura. The headlining European Tour is planned for February, 2011. Angra has been recently confirmed as a participant of Rock In Rio 2011 Festival.

DETENTE – Recognize No Authority
Detente - Recognize No Authority
“A true cult classic of the ’80s underground thrash scene, this is the one and only Detente album, featuring the late Dawn Crosby (Fear Of God) on vocals and future nu-metal production guru Ross Robinson on guitar. Vicious speed, memorable riffs and great vocals make this 1986 album truly worthy of reissue status.” – The Omega Order
Dear Stratovarius fans, I am afraid we have some quite terrible news. News of the worst imaginable kind. It’s about our friend and drummer Jörg Michael.
Jörg has cancer.
He recently discovered a lump on his neck, went to the doctor, they decided to operate, and found what they call “a malignant thyroid neoplasm”. They took out his whole thyroid just to have the best chance to get everything out. He will also have to undergo a regimen of radiotherapy. He is a fighter. We have all talked to him and it’s clear that this guy is not down for the count. He and his team of German doctors are pissed off and ready to kick ass, and I would not want to be a little cancer cell on these guys’ shit list.. believe me.
Jörg and his family (and us guys in the band) found this out only last week, after the operation. Naturally we are all going between a lot of emotions, sadness, worry, shock, confusion, even anger.
As for Stratovarius, as you perhaps know there is a long tour coming up with Helloween, and with the surgery and therapy that will now follow there is no way Jörg can do the first part of the tour. For me personally (it’s Jens writing this if you didn’t figure it out) I at first felt quite hopeless about the tour, because I was so upset about all this news. But Jörg himself has been extremely clear that he does not want the band to cancel a single show because of this. In the end this is what made at least me feel better about going back hitting the road next week.
So, we have debated what to do for many days now. Jörg first suggested my brother Anders to do this November-December 2010 leg, but it turns out Anders will unfortunately be busy recording some record or other with that little indie cellar band of his called HammerFall. :o) After a lot of searching we found a guy that both can do it and didn’t have other commitments: Alex Landenburg. He plays well, Jörg says he is a great guy (very important!) and he even started learning the set already before we even had decided what to do, which to me shows a lot of dedication. You can google Alex’ name if you are curious.
So it turns out that Stratovarius will do the first leg of the Helloween Seven Sinner tour, just as planned, only not with Jörg behind the kit, but with Jörg very much as a motivator to us being there. Not one single date will be cancelled or changed. Jörg wants to be back on the road with us again as soon as possible depending on the thearapy, but we are not making any promises, that one is up to powers even higher than Jörg Michael and his doctors. We will try to keep you somewhat updated.
Anyway, the most important thing is that they think they got all the bad stuff out and that the end result is that we just fix that sentence I wrote above. We will then say:
